Cacti 0.8.8f which is the default version for Ubuntu 16.04 uses invalid
datetime values ("-00-00 00:00:00"). MySQL 5.7 does not support
zero-dates, this causes the Cacti poller script to run amok and execute
the same SQL queries over and over. In my case
Password logging aside, there's an open question about whether logging
usernames is acceptable. I'd say it is, since usernames are generally
actually webapps and thus are useful debugging information. Users are
already prompted to see the report before sending it, and actively
choose to send it.

Latest upstream kernel is running stable for 2 days straight. No hangs
and the kernel log is way cleaner, even though there are some i915

Update: my current workaround is now to remove xserver-xorg-video-intel,
and instead use the built in modesetting driver. So far, I've had no
issues, and acceleration works fine.

This is awesome, thank you for performing the test case. Now I know that
the flaw is still somewhere in the Ubuntu System Settings and it is most
probably a race.
As for the other issues that you have observed I would prefer to first
solve the pairing bug and the other you mention will be waiting
apport-collect 1578123 fails with a "no additional information
collected" popup.
