[Bug 1635577] Re: memory leak in unity-panel-service

2016-12-01 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Hi Marco, thanks for looking at this!

Attached is a smaller test case. Compile it with:

g++ -fPIC -I /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5 -lQt5Core -lQt5Gui
-lQt5Widgets ./test.cpp

To me, the chain of objects looks like this:

unity-panel-service top-level menubar (created in panel-service.c:2540)
-> menu item for every indicator entry, including dead ones
(created in panel-service.c:2566, added in panel-service.c:2589)
-> item submenu (created in indicator-application.c:555, added in
panel-service.c:2590)
-> dbusmenu client (created in libdbusmenu-gtk/menu.c:402)
-> finally, each dbusmenu client maintains its own menu structure
(and all clients are alive and massively send D-Bus requests)

The upstream commit is
https://github.com/owncloud/client/commit/98efb075357fa64f — it
contained other changes, so I did not cherry-pick all of it. The first
item in the commit message is relevant to us.

A question from me: is it possible to inspect unity-panel-service with
GTK+ Inspector somehow? I tried running it with GTK_DEBUG=interactive,
but the only object it shows to me is GtkSettings.

I also can confirm that the latest kernel update (4.8.0-28-generic) has
fixed the problem to connecting to the project through VGA.

I'm not sure if this is related, but the kernel update killed proper
docking for the same machine, see:

[Bug 1644249] Re: Ubuntu 16.04.1 installer crash

2016-12-01 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the 16.04 installer in EFI mode. A warning message prompted you that
this could be a problem and recommended performing a bios mode install
instead, but you chose not to. You either need to perform the bios mode
install, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system
partition to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you
choose the "use entire disk" guided install option.

In addition, your log is flooded with PCI express error messages so I
think you have a bad motherboard.

[Bug 1624317] Re: systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

2016-12-01 Thread mxCoder
Hi,

I think I'm having the same issue:

Linux ricardo-N24-25BU 4.8.0-28-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 11
14:03:52 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.10
Release:16.10
Codename: yakkety

Just upgraded to 16.10 last night, after bootup, I connect to a work VPN
(OpenVPN + Pritunl) which was working ok so far.

route -n shows the new routes, and resolve.conf is correctly updated
with the VPN DNS nameserver

Any direct query: dig, nslookup, ip route get {host} resolves correctly
using the VPN DNS

But any other command: ping, telnet, mysql, etc resolves without the VPN
DNS (unless instructed otherwise explicitely)

Quick solution was:

sudo systemctl restart systemd-resolved.service

[Bug 1646582] Re: update to 14.04.5

2016-12-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1279762 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1279762

You seem to have installed the cinnamon package on Ubuntu 13.10.
Unfortunately, that package is not available yet for 14.04. To upgrade
to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS you'll need to either wait for a fix for cinnamon to
be available or uninstall the package and then upgrade.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1646042] Re: Timeout running long script using adt-virt-qemu

2016-12-01 Thread Richard Huddie
Some more investigation shows some slightly different behaviour
depending on what format data is sent in. If there is a single line (as
above in echo example) of >4096 bytes then it is received as a 4096
chunk using a read() and executed, appending '\n'. The remaining
commands from next chunk don't get executed in this case.

If there are commands sent on multiple lines, (e.g. socket.send(b'echo
aaa\necho bbb\n')) then each line is received in a separate read() and
then executed. Result of each read() is returned in a write(). If the
individual lines exceed 4096 then they will also be truncated.

For the case of the test log file the lines are less than 4096, but the
last command hangs on write(), which I've not been able to reproduce yet
using a dummy script.

[Bug 1644785] Re: Ubuntu Openstack Mitaka can only deploy up to 52 instances

2016-12-01 Thread Billy Olsen
As Ryan indicated in his previous comment, the reason that the instances
are unable to launch is due to the libvirt error:

libvirtError: internal error: process exited while connecting to
monitor: 2016-11-23T08:18:06.762943Z qemu-system-s390x: -drive
file=/dev/disk/by-path/ip-148.100.42.50:3260-iscsi-
iqn.2010-10.org.openstack:volume-f36c890c-1313-41de-b56d-991a2ece094c-
lun-1,format=raw,if=none,id=drive-virtio-disk0,serial=f36c890c-1313
-41de-b56d-991a2ece094c,cache=none,aio=native: The device is not
writable: Bad file descriptor

This indicates that the block device mapped by the file path /dev/disk
/by-path ... has a bad file descriptor. Bad file descriptor suggests to
me either that the device came and went away, the device is (for some
reason) visible as read-only, or that the device hasn't yet been fully
attached. This error messages is provided by the qemu code and only
logged when checking to ensure the block-device's file descriptor is
writable.

I think it'd be useful to get a bit more data from the compute and
cinder nodes. Can you collect a bunch of data regarding the system using
a tool called sosreport (in the xenial archives)? It will collect
various logs, metrics, and system configuration which is useful to
perform diagnostics. Just make sure to run the sosreport tool with the
-a command to ensure that all of the information is captured (more
efficient to get it the first go 'round).

Before collecting the sosreport, it probably makes sense to increase the
debug logging for the nova and qemu services prior to collecting the
data. Setting logging levels for both to debug would provide lots of
useful information.

Also note: the 2.2 GB partition isn't an issue AIUI. The volume is created by:
 1. downloading the image from glance
 2. expanding and writing the block-level content to the cinder volume (where
content is expanded from 320 MB to 2.2 GB).
 3. When cloud-init runs on startup of the VM, the code detects the underlying
disk is bigger than what is currently seen and will attempt to expand the
partition and filesystem to consume the full content of the disk.

[Bug 1280300] Re: Desktop contents displayed on resume, before lock screen is shown

2016-12-01 Thread Seth Arnold
gethin, that seems plausibly like it could suffer from the same problems
as #49579 -- if you have a menu open or a virtualbox window to a guest
or similar, the screensaver 'lock' command may not be able to lock the
display.

That's why we recommend using the lock interface in the menus or
keyboard shortcuts, because both will either succeed easily or visibly
fail before you make the next step manually.

Thanks

[Bug 1646639] [NEW] KVM CPU slowdown on 4.4 kernel

2016-12-01 Thread Kevin Stevens
Public bug reported:

HP DL380 G9 Openstack (Kilo 2015.1.4) hypervisor
755GB RAM/2x18 core E5-2699v3 2.30GHz
Ubuntu 14.04.3 with 4.4.0-28-generic kernel
Qemu version 2.0.0+dfsg-2ubuntu1.22
Libvirt 1.2.2-0ubuntu13.1.16

Up to about 100 instances residing on the hypervisor, no issues are
noticed. Once the server obtains about 100 instances, you see ksoftirqd
process jump to the top of processes consuming CPU. Load shoots into the
high 100's and low 200's and instances become inaccessible as the
hypervisor begins dropping packets (due to CPU).

Moved to Libvirt 1.2.2-0ubuntu13.1.17, qemu 2.0.0+dfsg-2ubuntu1.30, and
kernel 3.13.0-101-generic.

This appears to have resolved the issue and the server can once again
handle 150+ instances without skipping a beat.

I did find this error message repeated thousands of times in libvirtd.log up
until kernel and package upgrade which fixed the issue:
error : qemuMonitorJSONCheckError:354 : internal error: unable to execute QEMU
command 'qom-get': guest hasn't updated any stats yet

Let me know if I can provide extra detail

Thanks

[Bug 1646643] [NEW] Update hio driver to 2.1.0.28

2016-12-01 Thread James Troup
Public bug reported:

Please update the hio driver in the Ubuntu kernel to version 2.1.0.28
as released by Huawei. I've reviewed the diff and AFAICS it contains
all of our fixes (most crucially Ming Lei's blk_queue_split addition).
We (Canonical IS) only need this for Linux 4.8 FWIW. I've yet to test
the new version on real hardware but will try to do so shortly.

The rather horrible URL to the download is below - I've also attached it
as a ZIP for convenience.

/usr/bin/startkde, and I am not missing the qdbus executables. I have
