With Chris's help we got the tests to get past the D-Bus errors on Zesty
by creating a file /etc/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/manage-
units.pkla on the test system with the following contents:

After upgrading from ubuntu-gnome 16.10 -> 17.04 I was running into this
issue, as frequently as every 2 minutes gnome-shell would crash, around
every ~30 minutes gnome-shell would fail to recover.
After enabling proposed and upgrading I have had 0 issues.

Try moving your pulseaudio config out of the way. Log out of your
desktop session, switch to a text virtual terminal by pressing control +
alt + f1, logging in there, and moving the pulseaudio config like so:
mv .config/pulse .config/pulse.old
Log out of the text terminal, switch back to the GUI

Somewhat similarly, I found that, on a laptop with no external input
device (only the touchpad), the file menu would not drop down from the
toolbar, though all the other menus did. Odd. It lasted about a minute.

wont react on any mouse or keyboard action. Sometimes for hours.
Seen this with jpg-files changing tags. Changing only a few files does
nothing changing many files (more than three) stalls thunar.

Same thing on an upgrade from 16.04 to 17.04. Some internet immediately
after the upgrade, same issue as noted above with software updates
needing multiple tries to access the repos, currently internet
