[Bug 1728769] Re: [Wishlist for GDM3] Lock screen clock

2017-10-31 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The desktop already has a live clock, as does the lock screen.

Can you please clarify what's missing? Is it just that the screen turns
off before you can see it?

[Bug 1729194] [NEW] Systemd-Resolvd Forgets to Resolv Request

2017-10-31 Thread Christopher
Public bug reported:

Systemd sometimes just doesn't resolve DNS queries and for the life of
me I don't know why.

So often when I'm switching between wifi networks I find that systemd-
resolved in 17.10 complete fails to do it's job. Here's the example. I'm
connected to the internet :

```
chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 20:58:18}
> ping 8.8.8.8
PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time=196 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=2 ttl=53 time=67.5 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=3 ttl=53 time=78.9 ms
^C
--- 8.8.8.8 ping statistics ---
3 packets transmitted, 3 received, 0% packet loss, time 1999ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 67.534/114.169/196.025/58.068 ms
```

But I can't seem to resolve domains:

```
chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 20:59:17}
> nslookup google.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
```

So I did a `systemd-resolver --status` to see if it's getting the right
dns server. It is :

```
Link 3 (wlp2s0)
  Current Scopes: DNS LLMNR/IPv4 LLMNR/IPv6
   LLMNR setting: yes
MulticastDNS setting: no
  DNSSEC setting: no
DNSSEC supported: no
 DNS Servers: 192.168.43.1
  2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d::
  2001:4888:50:ff00:500:d::
```

And it's actually up and working properly :

```
chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 21:02:06}
> nslookup google.com 192.168.43.1
Server: 192.168.43.1
Address:192.168.43.1#53
Non-authoritative answer:
Name:   google.com
Address: 172.217.11.78
chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 21:03:16}
> nslookup google.com 2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d::
Server: 2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d::
Address:2001:4888:51:ff00:506:d::#53
Non-authoritative answer:
Name:   google.com
Address: 172.217.11.78
```

Systemd just can't figure out to make the request. I did try the common
step of flushing the cache (with `--flush-cache`) restarting network-
manager and systemd-resolverd service but nothing seems to be able to
make systemd-resolverd function. Even a reboot doesn't always fix the
issue; sometimes it persists.

For debugging this is what's in my /etc/resolv.conf :

```
chalbersma@nebraska [~] {Tue Oct 31 21:09:15}
> cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
nameserver 127.0.1.1
```

As soon as I manually set the nameserver from my loopback to the actual
dns server (bypassing systemd-resolvd) things start working again. Let
me know what kind of tshooting data I'd need to grab to help display
this issue.

In order to restore networking I had to manually edit that file and
change my dns to the external source.

Okay, I will try this with a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10 and provide
the necessary logs soon. I should be able to use the provided script
over ssh, thanks. The problem with GDM freezing on Wayland after system
resume/wakeup has been occurring ever since I ran the beta builds of
17.10, but it's clearly not fixed. I've been relatively busy lately, my
apologies.

[Bug 1624317] Re: systemd-resolved breaks VPN with split-horizon DNS

2017-10-31 Thread Ricardo
#103 did fix it

Adding:

[ipv4]
dns-priority=-42

to system-connections config file
or runing 'sudo nmcli connection modify ipv4.dns-priority
-42'
and restarting networkmanager service
did fix dns leaking using ProtonVPN on openvpn for me, thanks.

But i didn't quite understand the problem! Is it the provided openvpn
config file misconfigured or a networkmanager bug? As i said, in others
distros doesn't happend!

but unfortunately I haven't had a chance to operate without my main
computer for the 2 weeks that it takes to reinstall the operating
system, applications, and configure everything again.

Yes, the last time I had this issue was yesterday. I don't know of any
way to make Nautilus start functioning again other than rebooting the
computer.

Note that this particular bug is not common. ie. It doesn't occur every
day. It happens every couple of weeks on average.

[Bug 1729164] Re: there is no way to stop the clock under gnome

2017-10-31 Thread Jeremy Bicha
This looks like it is due to the stricter environment used by Wayland
which is the new default display server in Ubuntu 17.10.

As a workaround, log out. Click your name on the login screen then click
the gear button. Choose 'Ubuntu on Xorg' and then enter your password to
log into the traditional display server instead of Wayland.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

Not only is this expected, but these dependencies seem to exist on every
Lubuntu release past Xenial. It's fine in my opinion, and really doesn't
need much of a dependency review.

> After reboot the machine the sound worked on Firefox but the indicator
did not launched pavucontrol as I expected, it is due to no dependency
relation between any package tha could lead to pacucontrol package
installation. I still had to install it apart, after done that, the tray
icon could launch the control as expected.

You're right on this, my mistake. Great catch. I pushed an update to the
seed (I now have access) and will push an update to lubuntu-meta shortly
pulling this in. SRU team, please review this (this also has Breaks as
discussed with rbasak on IRC, because this needs an upload anyways). But
for now, indicator-sound-gtk2 is good, so I'm marking that as
verification-done-xenial.

Hopefully we can *finally* get this solved. :)

[Bug 1729176] [NEW] Synaptic Package Manager dies right after install in Ubuntu 17.10

2017-10-31 Thread John Bond
Public bug reported:

Using the Ubuntu Software application, I attempted to install Synaptic.
Once the install completed, i clicked the "launch" button. After about
a minute, I was told the application failed to launch. So I attempted
to run "sudo synaptic &" in a terminal. That also died, and the
processes had to be killed.

I am working with a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10.

that the system was pending a reboot after upgrading to

[Bug 1729145] [NEW] /dev/bcache/by-uuid links not created after reboot

2017-10-31 Thread Ryan Harper
Public bug reported:

1. $ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10

2. $ apt-cache policy linux-image-`uname -r`
linux-image-4.13.0-16-generic:
  Installed: 4.13.0-16.19
  Candidate: 4.13.0-16.19
  Version table:
 *** 4.13.0-16.19 500
500 http://nova.clouds.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/main amd64
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3. After creating some bcache devices and rebooting /dev/bcache/by-uuid/
-> ../../bcacheN
symlinks point to the current bcache device which is caching the dev.uuid found
after creating a backing device.

4. /dev/bcache/by-uuid does not exist and there are not symlinks
underneath

It appears that since the initramfs loads the bcache module which probes and
finds all of the cache devices and backing devices then once the rootfs is
mounted and udev gets to run, the bcache kernel module does not emit the
CACHED_UUID value into the environment if the underlying devices are already
registered.

In dmesg, one can see that prior to mounting the rootfs, we see bcache
register events:

[5.333973] bcache: register_bdev() registered backing device vdb2
[5.354138] bcache: register_bdev() registered backing device vdb4
[5.365665] bcache: register_bdev() registered backing device vdb3
[5.397720] bcache: bch_journal_replay() journal replay done, 0 keys in 1
entries, seq 1
[5.428683] bcache: register_cache() registered cache device vdb1

then rootfs ismounted and systemd starts systemd-udev

[9.350889] systemd[1]: Listening on udev Kernel Socket.

And then the coldplug replay of kernel events triggers
/lib/udev/rules.d/69-bcache.rules
which invokes /lib/udev/bcache-register which writes the device name (/dev/vdb1
or /dev/bcache0) into /sys/fs/bcache/register and results is the bcache kernel
driver attempting to register the block device. However, there is already a
bcache device associated already and registration fails

[   11.173141] bcache: register_bcache() error opening /dev/vdb2: device
already registered
[   11.184617] bcache: register_bcache() error opening /dev/vdb3: device
already registered
[   11.199130] bcache: register_bcache() error opening /dev/vdb1: device
already registered
[   11.271694] bcache: register_bcache() error opening /dev/vdb4: device
already registered

The problem then is that only a kernel call to bch_cached_dev_run()
which happens like this:

bcache_register()
  register_bdev()
bch_cached_dev_run()
  kobject_uevent_env(_to_dev(d->disk)->kobj, KOBJ_CHANGE, env);

where env includes:
"DRIVER=bcache",
kasprintf(GFP_KERNEL, "CACHED_UUID=%pU", dc->sb.uuid),
NULL,
NULL,
};

Since that event is not emitted for any previously registered device,
then the symlink will not be created.

~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css:

AisleriotBoard, aisleriot-board {
background-image: url('/home/seb/Pictures/aisleriot-background.jpg');

[Bug 1717666] Re: borgbackup: multiple security issues

2017-10-31 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello LocutusOfBorg, or anyone else affected,

Accepted borgbackup into xenial-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/borgbackup/1.0.11-0ubuntu1.16.04.2
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-xenial to verification-done-xenial. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-xenial. In either case, details of your
testing will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1729128] [NEW] Raspberry Pi 3 microSD support missing from the installer

2017-10-31 Thread William Grant
Public bug reported:

Please add bcm2835 to block-modules on arm64 (and armhf?).

artful's arm64 d-i mini.iso works fine on Raspberry Pi 3 when booting
with a UEFI-capable u-boot, except for one detail: mmc/host/bcm2835.ko
is missing from block-modules, so you can't install to microSD without
manually grabbing and loading the module.

[Bug 1636666] Re: [MIR] pcre2

2017-10-31 Thread Jonathan Nieder
> There is one other issue: Debian's pcre2 isn't really using what I
consider "best practice" packaging [specifically, it does not use source
format 3.0 (quilt) ] which makes doing security updates more of a pain

That's tracked at https://bugs.debian.org/862425 (thanks for filing
it!). I can look into preparing a patch for it if I get time, though no
promises.

[Bug 1729119] [NEW] NVMe timeout is too short

2017-10-31 Thread Daniel Axtens
Public bug reported:

[SRU Justification]

[Impact]
Some NVMe operations time out too quickly. The module parameters allow the
timeouts to be extended, but only up to 255s, as the counters are bytes.

[Fix]
The underlying parameters are unsigned ints, so make the module parameters
unsigned ints too, by picking patch
http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-nvme/2017-September/012701.html

[Regression Potential]
Very limited: only types of module parameters are changing, the patch is easily
reviewable.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Assignee: Daniel Axtens (daxtens)
 Status: Confirmed

Thanks. That makes sense.

That means (until
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcre2/+bug/163 is fixed)
that this comes down to wanting a way to request different Build-Depends
for Ubuntu versus Debian. I'd be happy to do that using build profiles
if there is a profile that Ubuntu builds with, for example.

[Bug 1729107] [NEW] Xenial update to 4.4.95 stable release

2017-10-31 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
   in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
   demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
   by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
   a minimally backported form of that patch. The 4.4.95 upstream stable
   patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu
   kernel as well.

   git://git.kernel.org/

TEST CASE: TBD

   The following patches from the 4.4.95 stable release shall be
applied:

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
