[Bug 1729194] Re: Systemd-Resolvd Forgets to Resolv Request

2017-11-01 Thread Christopher
Some more troubleshooting, I've found that if I manually set my
nameserver to 127.0.0.53 systemd-resolver starts working again. However
everytime that a wifi network connects or disconnects, it switches back
to `127.0.0.1`

It does look like systemd-resolve only listens on that port too. :

`udp0 0 127.0.0.53:53 0.0.0.0:*
858/systemd-resolve`

So what I need to find out is why network-manager isn't using the right
settings for systemd-resolve.

[Bug 1729414] [NEW] zlib package in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty) has not received patches for critical/high CVE-2016-9840, CVE-2016-9841, CVE-2016-9842, CVE-2016-9843

2017-11-01 Thread Ryan Fisher
Public bug reported:

The current package available to 14.04/trusty is 1:1.2.8.dfsg-1ubuntu1
which does not have the upstream fixes for the following CVEs:

* CVE-2016-9840 (high) (https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2016-9840)
* CVE-2016-9841 (critical) (https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2016-9841)
* CVE-2016-9842 (high) (https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2016-9842)
* CVE-2016-9843 (critical) (https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2016-9843)

Being that they are being categorized as such by NIST, it would be very
nice to get these fixes backported to Trusty or the most recent version
of zlib made available to Trusty.

Thanks!

Re: [Bug 1704402] Re: dns-sortlist not recognized in network-config

2017-11-01 Thread James Gibbins
Hi David,This ticket is for the source-list, which is for dns resolver and the
config is as follows.
  version: 1
  config:
  - type: physical
    name: eth0
  - type: nameserver
    address: ['xx.xx.xx.xx']    sortlist: ['xx.xx.xx.xx', 'xx.xx.xx.xx'] I
believe the only thing that is needed for cloud-init is to add the keyword
"sort-list" to the case list, so that it is written to /etc/resolv.conf.
As for source-based routing, there is no config recognized by cloud-init.  It's
just straight network statements, name, ip, netmask, etc.  The work is done by
a shell script in the if-up.d directory as follows:
#!/bin/sh
set -e
if [ "$METHOD" = loopback ]; then
exit 0
elif [ "$METHOD" = dhcp ]; then
exit 0
elif [ "$METHOD" = static ]; then
if [ "$IF_GATEWAY" ]; then
echo "exiting..."
exit 0
fi
fi
IF_GATEWAY="$(echo "$IF_ADDRESS" | cut -d. -f1-3).254"
ip route flush table "$IFACE"
ip route add default via "$IF_GATEWAY" table "$IFACE"
ip rule del lookup "$IFACE" || true
ip rule add from "$IF_ADDRESS" lookup "$IFACE"

Basically, if the interface is a loopback, dhcp, or already has a
default gateway, it does nothing. For any other interface, it adds a
default route to the route table causing all responses to inbound
traffic to use the same interface to respond on. The email I sent late
last night to your email, discusses what I've been able to find, in
terms of using systemd-networkd, but requires ver 235, as well as some
additional work in netplan and cloud-init to recognize all the values.

P.S. systemd 235, which I saw is proposed for bionic beaver, adds quite
a few nice functions, including "vrf".

  dns-sortlist not recognized in network-config

Status in cloud-init:
  Confirmed
Status in cloud-init package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I'm using LXD with Ubuntu images, and cloud-init to do initial setup
of container.  I'm not sure, but I believe the issue is in cloud-init,
but would appreciate a pointer to the right location if not.
Currently using network-config meta data, cloud-init takes the
  following config and converts correctly:

  version: 1
  config:
  - type: physical
    name: eth0
  - type: nameserver
    address: ['xx.xx.xx.xx']
    search: ['example.local', 'example.org']

However including the following line is not recognized:

    sortlist: ['xx.xx.xx.xx', 'xx.xx.xx.xx']

Please add support for this standard nameserver option.

I had that problem as well :) I'll do my best to explain things. If I
over-explain things, I apologise, if I under-explain things, ask me to
clarify things.

The Linux kernel is the very core of Linux, it handles the hardware on
behalf of the programs we want to run.

GRUB is the "Grand Unified Bootloader" GRUB is a rather accomplished system
to handle booting things - typically a Linux kernel or memtest86+.
It can do many things and even has a built-in scripting language for
flexibility. The manual can be found here:-
https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub/grub.html#Top

With lubuntu, GRUB is used to load a Linux kernel. If you want to see the
GRUB menu when booting your computer, switch it on and press both SHIFT
keys down and you should see a menu. With at least these two options:
* Ubuntu
* Advanced Options for Ubuntu

If you highlight the "Ubuntu" option and press 'e' you will see a GRUB
script specific to that kernel. Most of that stuff can be ignored. The line
beginning with the word linux is the interesting one - see
https://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual/grub/grub.html#linux for full
details. Basically, you can edit that line to send information to the
kernel or tell it to do something differently. For instance, I've been
doing that recently to stop the arguments quiet and splash being passed to
the kernel

If you want to run a different kernel to the default on your system, select
"Advanced Options for Ubuntu", you will get a list of available kernels you
can run them as-is or you can highlight your preferred kernel and press 'e'
if you want to change the parameters passed to the kernel.

[Bug 1721856] Re: Suspend ends after seconds and laptop resumes

2017-11-01 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I built the next test kernel, up to the following commit:
2a55e98f9f76825d78a4e6ef315c35fccabf5212

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1721856

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

Thanks in advance

Edited /etc/default/grub. Made apport=0 a default parameter. Booted kernel
4.14 .0-041400rc5-generic. Still no networking. Did a cat /proc/cmdline to
make sure the parameter was being passed to the kernel. It was.

Which kernel(s) are you using?

[Bug 1726669] Re: when installing ubuntu 17.04 on my new laptop ...there occer a bug while install 'grub 2' and also my touchpad not working....

2017-11-01 Thread Phillip Susi
Your disk is currently partitioned to boot in bios mode, but you booted
the installer in EFI mode. A warning message prompted you that this
could be a problem and recommended performing a bios mode install
instead, but you chose not to. You either need to perform the bios mode
install, or partition the disk using GPT and set up an EFI system
partition to install in EFI mode. This will be done for you if you
choose the "use entire disk" guided install option.

[Bug 1726628] Re: /dev/sdb7 não pode ser instalado o grub

2017-11-01 Thread Phillip Susi
You need to install grub to the whole hard disk ( /dev/sdb ), rather
than a partition.

[Bug 1487666] Re: non-fatal error right after login (just upgraded the kernel to 4.1)

2017-11-01 Thread James Cuzella
After trying to build a different kernel module on Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty),
I can replicate these errors.

The first "error" isn't really an error unless the echo statements are
triggered if the "test" command fails:

test -e include/generated/autoconf.h -a -e include/config/auto.conf
|| ( [...SNIP...] )

Notice in the part with parentheses that each line is prefixed by: echo
>&2 " ... "

This behavior of GNU Make is normal. It will print back the commands it
runs unless told not to. If you saw this message without 'echo >&2' in
front, it would immediately exit afterwards with a message like:

make: *** [all] Error 1

This "test -e [...]" command is checking that the mentioned files exist
within the Linux Kernel source directory. This directory is mentioned
above when Make changes into it: "/usr/src/linux-
headers-4.1.0-040100rc2-generic"

The two files it is checking exist are therefore:

/usr/src/linux-headers-4.1.0-040100rc2-generic/include/generated/autoconf.h
# AND:
/usr/src/linux-headers-4.1.0-040100rc2-generic/include/config/auto.conf

You can look for these files yourself to make sure they exist. If so,
this particular output from Make can be ignored. If they don't exist,
then you can usually follow the instructions for running "make oldconfig
&& make prepare" within the Linux Kernel source directory to create
them.

The second error message you are getting looks like the real one:

make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'arch/x86/syscalls/syscall_32.tbl',
needed by 'arch/x86/syscalls/../include/generated/asm/syscalls_32.h'. Stop.
arch/x86/Makefile:181: recipe for target 'archheaders' failed
make: *** [archheaders] Error 2

This error is listed around the Internet surrounding building Linux
Kernel modules on Debian (and Fedora) against Linux Kernel source that
is missing "syscalls_32.tbl" and "syscalls_32.h" files.

These files should exist in the "Vanilla" Linux Kernel source code which
can always be found at kernel.org. However, it appears that some
distributions such as Debian and Ubuntu are missing these files in their
newer "linux-headers-*" packages.

This appears to be a packaging bug which can be filed against "linux-
headers-*" package. The "linux-headers" packages should include these
files in order to build kernel modules using them.

The workaround is to get a full copy of the appropriate version of the
Linux Kernel source tree by whatever means, and to use this directory to
build your modules against.

Note that I'm answering this question based on my personal experience with the
linux-headers-4.10.0-37-generic package on Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus". I'm
under the assumption that this file has been missing from the "linux-headers-*"
packages for a while now based on the many instances of people running into
this error since 2013 posted on the internet.

If you can somehow locate the "syscalls_32.tbl" and "syscalls_32.h"
files within your /usr/src/linux-headers-4.1.0-040100rc2-generic/
directory, then you should check the bbswitch module's source directory
Makefile. Sometimes the way an external Kernel Module's Makefile is
written prevents it from finding the right linux-headers or
/lib/modules/ directory during build.Other solutions have been
posted for changing the way GNU Make is finding the Linux Source
directory and the Kernel Module's working directory usually with $$(PWD)
or $(shell $PWD).

[Bug 1729433] [NEW] LibreOffice doesn't remember non-maximized size when closed while maximized

2017-11-01 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

1. Open any LibreOffice document, e.g., a Writer or Calc document.
2. Make the window a reasonable, non-maximized size.
3. Maximize the window.
4. Close LibreOffice.
5. Open the document again; it will open maximized.
6. Un-maximize the window.
7. Observe how the window has a ridiculously small size, not its previously
unmaximized size.

LibreOffice or gnome-shell bug? Not sure.

[Bug 1729394] Re: 17.10 - Second monitor in portrait mode causes graphical issue

2017-11-01 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1729394/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 1705369] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU)

2017-11-01 Thread Bernadette Addison
Greetings, this bug is also affecting my brand new fresh clean install
of Ubuntu 17.10 to my Dell XPS 15 laptop. I have gone thru this thread
and have tried every single trick/hack and nothing allows the machine to
boot successfully once the Nvidia drivers are installed. In fact, I am
facing consisten boot loops no matter which driver I install. I was
also unsuccessful in being able to log in wiht lightdm, even though the
machine did successfullly boot to the lightdm login screen after
Nvidia-375 was installed. I was wondering if I should try a different
kernel than the one that ships with 17.10?? I have as GeoForce GTX 1050
video card in the machine, so its not uncommon.

Thanks for testing that. We can next perform a kernel bisect to
identify the commit that introduced the regression.

First it would be good to know if this bug is already fixed upstream.
If it is, we can perform a "Reverse" bisect to identify the commit that
fixes the bug. Can you test v4.14-rc7? It can be downloaded from:

[Bug 1684295] Re: sssd fails with 'Exiting the SSSD. Could not restart critical service [tpad].

2017-11-01 Thread Andreas Hasenack
I think the best way forward here is to get a core dump, so we can have
a better idea of where the crash is happening.

I induced a crash in my test sssd container, and since I have apport installed,
a crash file was produced in /var/crash:
# ll /var/crash/
total 644
drwxrwxrwt 2 root root 4 Nov 1 20:34 ./
drwxr-xr-x 13 root root 15 Sep 19 19:18 ../
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Nov 1 20:34 .lock*
-rw-r- 1 root root 593417 Nov 1 20:34
_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_sssd_sssd_be.0.crash

Could you please check if you have a recent crash file related to sssd
in that directory.

If not, do this:
sudo apt install apport

# check the kernel core_pattern:

# sysctl kernel.core_pattern
kernel.core_pattern = |/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c %P

And then restart sssd and induce the crash again, and then hopefully you
will have a crash file and we can go from there.

[Bug 1729437] [NEW] Ubuntu 17.10 hangs on reboot after installation

2017-11-01 Thread LinuxUser
Public bug reported:

After installing ubuntu 17.10 desktop a window asking for a reboot opens.
After selecting the reboot I get the following error message from systemd: 'A
start job is running for Hold until boot process finishes up (21s / no limit)'
The system hangs and continues to display this error message.
As far as I can tell this message comes up during the shutdown part of the
reboot.

I used 'ubuntu-17.10-desktop-amd64.iso' as installation image on a usb
drive, I started the installer by selecting 'Try Ubuntu without
installing' in the boot menu and clicking the installer icon after the
live systems boot up.

Happily I also found a workaround. Before booting the live system I
changed some boot parameters with grub from 'quiet splash' to
'noplymouth' and then the installation worked and a proper reboot after
installation was possible.

To make things clearer I have attachted a screenshot of the error message.
I encountered this bug on Lenovo ThinkPad T470 with an nvme SSD.

[Bug 1705369] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 boots to black screen when using Nvidia drivers (on a desktop with an Intel GPU)

2017-11-01 Thread CaptSaltyJack
Bernadette:

Just to make sure, did you try the below in this exact order?

sudo apt purge gdm3
(optional step if lightdm is not auto installe) sudo apt install -y lightdm
sudo apt purge nvidia*
sudo apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r)
sudo apt install nvidia-384

This worked for me. At the lightdm login screen, I had to choose "Ubuntu
on Xorg" as the default environment before logging in. Wayland does not
work at all.

Your kernel should be ok. You may be experiencing an unrelated issue.
17.10 is kind of a mess.

[Bug 1729441] [NEW] changing display mode after login terminates session

2017-11-01 Thread Penna Panna
Public bug reported:

When I login, I type the password on the laptop screen. (Maybe it's
important.) After a while, while I'm waiting to get logged in, Ubuntu
changes the display mode. Both monitor goes black, laptop screen becomes
the secondary and my external monitor becomes the primary display.
Because of Ubuntu is unable to remember to the previously set display
mode, I usually change it a bit after I have logged in. However, if I
(would like to) do this too quickly, say... less than 4-5 seconds after
I can see my desktop, my session gets terminated and I'm returned to the
login screen. You can repeat it indefinitely, it always worked (?) for
me.

I thought it's because of one of my extensions but I could reproduce it after I
have disabled them.
I haven't found any useful log entries.

Good luck! I went through several tries to get it right. Make sure after
removing gdm that lightdm is installed.. that's key. And if you get a

[Bug 1709905] Re: stress-ng 0.08.10 fails to compile on SLES11 SP4

2017-11-01 Thread Hubba
I have managed to compile 0.09.00 by renaming F_OWNER_PGRP back to
F_OWNER_GID which I believe from some reading is what this was called on
older Linux distros
(https://gitlab.collabora.com/martyn/linux/commit/978b4053aefd422713f289f2a315ce2acba62018)
so I did on the source:

sed -i 's/F_OWNER_PGRP/F_OWNER_GID/g' stress-fcntl.c

Not sure yet as that has any negative impact.

Best regards
Hubba

[Bug 1729075] Re: Sync git 1:2.15.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

2017-11-01 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Ubuntu doesn't use a build profile like that. If you think that's
important, you could try filing a bug against Launchpad and it will get
triaged or reassigned as needed.

I'm renaming this bug since a sync is not appropriate. Some other
comments:

1. Please consider using 'requestsync' from the ubuntu-dev-tools package
to make fiing the appropriate bug easier next time.

2. Ubuntu 18.04 development only opened a few days ago and autosyncs
only started a few hours ago (and the autopkgtest queue is backed up for
a few days). So there really isn't much of a delay caused by there being
an Ubuntu-specific delta yet.

** Changed in: git (Ubuntu)
   Status: Invalid => Triaged

** Summary changed:

- Sync git 1:2.15.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)
+ Merge git 1:2.15.0-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main)

** Description changed:

Ubuntu's git package is unnecessarily forked from Debian. As a result,
- the package is out of date. Please sync with Debian.
+ the package is out of date. Please merge with Debian.
