[Bug 1740299] Re: package dnsmasq-base 2.78-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: dnsmasq (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740299 Title: package dnsmasq-base 2.78-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1740299/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1740299] Re: package dnsmasq-base 2.78-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Hi Dzintars, dnsmasq user is set up by the preinst of dnsmasq right before the chown. But nogroup is a generic group not tied to dnsmasq that should always exists. You should have such a group as well and therefore the error should (tm) not exists :-) What does the following give you: $ getent group nogroup I get a high group id like: nogroup:x:65534: It is part of base-passwd and set up to exist on the inital install. I could only think of a system that had someone hard remove that group to trigger this error. Maybe checking for the id as suggested above help you to start sorting it out. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740299 Title: package dnsmasq-base 2.78-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1740299/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1727202] Re: [17.10 regression] AppArmor ntp denial: Failed name lookup - disconnected path
Thanks Gordon for the extra info. There are two things in this actually. 1. the disconnected path goes back more release than assumed I added tasks since Xenial on the bug here, but even if (for whatever reason) we would decide not to push that to X/Z it would not affect the Artful SRu to be stalled once verified to work. 2. the open to its own binary on startup, yes I think I have seen those but this is a) a separate issue to be filed for it. b) so non severe that no one addressed it so far (might be a nice papercut bug [1]) I'd assume it already exists as severity low/whishlist, then just the tagging has to be done. [Bug 1727202] Re: [17.10 regression] AppArmor ntp denial: Failed name lookup - disconnected path
While I see the non-crit "other" issue with opening its own binary I can not confirm the disconnected path issue in a current xenial guest. Since we knew this appears when trigging the running service to emit an error message I tried to force such an error message. I knew on later releases I could do so by e.g. spawning another virtual interface to bind on by starting a KVM guest (ntp would try to bind on that but fails). On Xenial I see the error messages without any apparmor related issue. [Bug 1739880] Re: on wayland, mpv opens without window elements, OSD missing
I agree this is annoying. We would all like to see nice consistent window decorations. So before reading on, remember we're on the same side :) Firstly you should know that choosing Wayland instead of X11 is an Ubuntu feature and not a bug. We patch that in on Ubuntu in order to provide hardware-accelerated playback: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mpv/0.26.0-3ubuntu1 But that change is not upstream for reasons such as the missing window decorations: https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/pull/4556 Choosing Wayland and not X11 is necessary because libva (VA-API) only supports DRI2 and Xwayland only supports DRI3. They are not compatible with each other so --opengl-backend=x11* will never get acceleration in a Wayland session. Hardware-accelerated video playback was a major feature in Ubuntu 17.10. The problem is we have to choose between having window decorations or having hardware acceleration. And Ubuntu has chosen hardware acceleration. In fact, the missing window decorations are not an mpv bug, but a general problem with all native wayland apps right now. The app/toolkit has to provide its own window decorations with Wayland. GTK does that so you won't notice a problem with GTK apps. Unfortunately using --opengl-backend=x11egl undoes this change, turning off hardware acceleration. And that's a very big deal because modern 4K and HEVC videos simply can't be played without hardware acceleration even on high-end CPUs. So we'll stick with the Ubuntu default of --opengl-backend=wayland. We need acceleration working. If mpv 0.28 somehow fixes this then great. But I suspect actually that PPA only works because it omits the Ubuntu patches which we would like to keep. I suggest a better solution you would be happy with is to install gnome- mpv instead. That will give you window decorations. But that does mean inefficient playback (see https://community.ubuntu.com/t/hardware- accelerated-video-playback/304/4). ** Changed in: mpv (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1739880 Title: on wayland, mpv opens without window elements, OSD missing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mpv/+bug/1739880/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1709877] Re: CPU hotplug fails in the system with empty numa nodes, "Invalid value '0-1, 16-17' for 'cpuset.mems': Invalid argument"
Hi Satheera, since this was waiting for verification so long the version number used in the ppa was consumed by another (unrelated) update. I think there is no reason to drive all of the rebuild just for this as there is an easier way to do the testing against the version in the ppa as-is. You will need to force the install of the version from the ppa being 1.3.1-1ubuntu10.15~ppa1 Fortunately I see in your report above that the newer libvirt-bin 1.3.1-1ubuntu10.15 was in use. So if after adding the ppa you could not just normally apt update&upgrade but then force the version like: $ apt install libvirt-bin=1.3.1-1ubuntu10.15~ppa1 libvirt0=1.3.1-1ubuntu10.15~ppa1 This would allow you to check from the ppa without any collision with this or other updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1709877 Title: CPU hotplug fails in the system with empty numa nodes, "Invalid value '0-1,16-17' for 'cpuset.mems': Invalid argument" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-power-systems/+bug/1709877/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

As far as I know it's only there for the benefit of Launchpad, and we can manage via a PPA or a virtualenv, so you shouldn't consider us as blocking its removal. I'll also look at removing our dependency on it. ** Bug watch added: Python Roundup #19199 http://bugs.python.org/issue19199 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1735388 Title: Server seeded Python2 packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/moin/+bug/1735388/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1739427] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.20-0ubuntu0.17.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script re turned error exit status 1
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes. Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with the formerly working configuration. But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state. Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart. Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete. Depending on your particular case there are two solutions: - either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it. - Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting the service will work. ** Changed in: mysql-5.7 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1739427 Title: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.20-0ubuntu0.17.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script re turned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.7/+bug/1739427/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1740846] [NEW] Fritzing noch finding any parts
Public bug reported: Under 16.04 fritzing 0.9.2b+dfsg-3 worked just well, but under 17.10 0.9.3b+dfsg-4 is just broken. First, there are two executables, /usr/bin/fritzing as an executable and /usr/bin/Fritzing (the former name of the binary) as a shell script, starting the binary. Unclear, which to use (actually doesn't matter, both not working) Starting fritzing (the binary) runs into several error messages: "Sorry, we have a problem with the swapping mechanism. Fritzing still works, but you won't be able to change parts properties." "Cannot read file /home/danisch/bins/core.fzb: No such file or directory." "Fritzing cannot load the parts bin" and then does not find any parts to use. Starting Fritzing (the script) does not issue any error message, but changes the working path and does not offer any parts to install, i.e. it just does not work without any complaints. [Bug 1740848] [NEW] Bad polish translation: actions and activities are translated to the same word
Public bug reported: In Polish KDE translation, both activities (= subject-oriented virtual desktops) and actions (= varioius window-related actions) are translated using the same word „działania”. This is very confusing. For example, after right-clicking window title I get window menu with the following contents Przenieś na ekran > Działania > Minimalizuj Maksymalizuj Więcej działań> Zamknij 2nd and 5th positions mean the same (Więcej = More in Polish) and after 3 years of facing it I still must click both to ensure which leads to Activities menu and which to extra window actions. ~~~ Suggested fix: as translating „activities” to „działania” seems established, I would not change it (albeit personally I'd probably prefer naming this „subjects" in English and „tematy” in Polish). Instead, I suggest changing translation of „More actions” from „Więcej działań” to one of: - just „Więcej…” (= „More…”) - „Więcej czynności” (in fact IMHO „czynność” would be better than „działanie” even without the problem, the words are mostly synonyms but I'd usually consider „czynność” to be sth small and fast, and „działanie” to be sth big and long-lasting) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: kwin-data 4:5.5.5-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-101.124-lowlatency 4.4.95 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-101-lowlatency x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: vboxpci vboxnetadp vboxnetflt vboxdrv nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.14 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Tue Jan 2 11:17:57 2018 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-02-18 (1779 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 12.04.1 LTS "Precise Pangolin" - Release amd64 (20120817.3) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: kwin UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2016-08-04 (515 days ago) ** Affects: kwin (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug kde third-party-packages translation -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kwin in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1740848 Title: Bad polish translation: actions and activities are translated to the same word To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kwin/+bug/1740848/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1739674] Re: virsh Fails at Hot Plugging Network Device with model virtio
Hi Launchy Man, and thanks for your report. So to clarify you get an error like: apparmor="DENIED" operation="file_receive" profile="libvirt-..." name="/dev/vhost-net" comm="qemu-system-x86" requested_mask="rw" denied_mask="rw" The fix for this actually made it upstream in [1]. Since then the individual guest profile gets the rule "if needed". That is even done with the default devices these days, so my guests always have this: grep vhost /etc/apparmor.d/libvirt/$(virsh dominfo xenial-test2 | awk '/^Security label:/ {print $3}').files /dev/vhost-net rw, My test system had I wonder if this could be a timing issue - for example: 1. start a guest without any vhost needing device (rule is not added intentionally) 2. later hot-add such a device (error would be that it is missed to add the rule now) To test that I started my guest without any network. Now the guest profile has no vhost-net rule (as expected) Then I added the userspace network like you (working, no rule change) and removed it again. $ virsh attach-interface --domain xenial-test2 --type network --source default --mac "de:ad:be:ef:de:ad" --config --live $ virsh detach-interface --domain xenial-test2 --type network --mac "de:ad:be:ef:de:ad" --config --live Note that on each of those actions as I expected I saw a trigger to reload the profile on hot-add. So we got: [...] apparmor="STATUS" operation="profile_replace" [...] name="libvirt-2359c3ff-6003-429a-b56e-bf55ec84203b//qemu_bridge_helper" pid=7493 comm="apparmor_parser" Note: the env obviously will have to be vhost-net capable or it will silently fall back to non-vhost. Next I attached the mode virtio device like you did (destroyed and re-spawned the guest before that to be clean): $ virsh attach-interface --domain xenial-test2 --type network --source default --model virtio --mac "de:ad:be:ef:de:ad" --config --live error: Failed to attach interface error: internal error: unable to execute QEMU command 'getfd': No file descriptor supplied via SCM_RIGHTS So far confirmed, but great Idea where to intercept at the right time - I'd have expected that the profile reload would load a new profile with the needed rule added. OTOH as soon as you have any vhost-net device on the normal start (most common) it will work. So severity is low.
