You have been subscribed to a public bug:
I have been using Ubuntu 18.04 with Gnome Flashback with Compiz for
about a month without issue. I performed normal updates on either 3/4 or
3/5 and now get a login loop using either Metacity or Compiz. When I try
to login I just get kicked right back to
sorry about the improper naming... " apparmor, not apport "
The machine I was using when this bug was originally found had a failed hard
drive.
new hard and new install of xubuntu. its using all the default repositories the
comes with xubuntu.
it also has a google ppa for chrome install.
one more note. the kern.log message below is triggered when I select
source.
Insert -> Media -> Scan -> Select Source

audit(1520376321.492:41): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"

Last month I upgraded to 5.4.5 and did not notice any problems, so I
would say no, it is no longer valid.

This is also reported on the SANE project bug report website, which
includes the solution to fix this issue:
https://alioth.debian.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail=315752_id=30186=410366
The root cause is a patch, that causes the issue in the first place
** Bug watch added: alioth.debian.org/
I see the same behaviour, but I'm not sure if the cause is the same, on
4.4.0-112-generic and 4.4.0-116-generic. In my case, the VM remains
responsive for a variable amount of time. Sometimes it works long enough
to login via SSH, at other times it does not get to the login screen. In
almost all
that build error was just fixed in git (f734e973be202141), please try
again
