[Bug 1657682] Re: Support latest Redpine WLAN/BT RS9113 driver

2018-05-07 Thread Shrirang Bagul
** Description changed:

Support latest Redpine WLAN/BT RS9113 driver in Ubuntu Xenial kernel.

This is the latest version of the driver provided by Redpine. For now,
this driver is enabled only on x86, x86_64 architectures. The impact is
  also restricted to { SDIO_DEVICE(0x041B, 0x9330) } chipsets.

+ For linux-oem (4.15) bionic series:
+ ~~
+ To support RS9113 Wifi+BT chip on Dell Edge 300x IoT Gateways. Most of the
+ patches are already upstream (either Accepted or under review) and being
+ tracked here:
+
+ SAUCE patches have been tested by Canonical CE-QA (based on
+ Ubuntu-4.15.0-16.17) and HWE is working with the Redpine to get them
+ upstreamed to linux-wireless. For now, to meet the project schedule, we'll
+ have to carry them in linux-oem.
+
+ The impact is limited to the Redpine RS9113 Wifi+BT with following VID/PID
+ { SDIO_DEVICE(0x041B, 0x9330) }.
+
This bug is used for tracking purposes, please do not triage.

[Bug 1745888] Re: Two instances of a program launch whenever you touch a favorites icon

2018-05-07 Thread PJSingh5000
Copying the description from duplicate bug #1769540, since there is more
information in that description. Also, note that this bug is present in
18.04 (as well as 17.10)...

If you touch an icon on the dock using a touch screen, the dock performs
duplicate actions for a single touch event.

1. Touching the app-grid icon on the dock with your finger causes the
"applications dash" to appear, and quickly disappear, as if you had
left-clicked on the app-grid icon *twice* using a mouse button.

2. Touching any favorites icon on the dock with your finger causes the
selected application to open *two* instances, as if you had left-clicked
on the app-grid icon twice using a mouse button.

THIS ONLY AFFECTS UBUNTU-DOCK
-

This only happens when using the touch screen to interact with the dock.
Using a mouse or track-pad works as expected.

The top-bar behaves as expected, as well, when using the touch screen.
For example, touching the Activities label ovens the "dash overview" as
expected; touching the notifications area on the top bar opens the
notifications/calendar as expected; touching the indicator icons behave
as expected as well.

Interacting with open applications using the touch screen also works as
expected. Applications respond to touch events as if a single event was
generated.

UBUNTU DOCK
---

Only the ubuntu-dock acts as if it received two (or more) touch events
for each single touch action.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR
-

Ubuntu dock should respond as if it received a single click event, for
each single touch event.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
--

If I touch the "Action" item at the top left of the desk-top, the
overview appears. THEN, if I touch an icon in the dock, it behaves
correctly.

[Bug 1769653] [NEW] Trying to install Ubuntu on a newly set up LVM2 disk with a Bios_grub partition. Grub won't install.

2018-05-07 Thread Richard Downing
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1767703 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767703

Public bug reported:

I deleted all partitions of the disk.
Set up a new GPT partition table.
Set up a new Bios_Grub partition of 1MiB.
Created a LVM2 partition for the rest of the disk (250MB)
Ran pvcreate, vgcreate, and lvcreate to make an LVM2 partition for Ubuntu of
50MiB.
Booted the liveCD for Ubuntu 18.04.
Ran install giving only the LVM2 partition as / (ticked the format box).
Install fails to install grub. The OS is installed on the LVM2 partition.

This is a second attempt, first attempt was onto an SSD with an MBR
partition table. Failed in the same place.

[Bug 1769654] [NEW] Ubuntu 18.04 embedded fonts Liberation have corrupted metrics

2018-05-07 Thread Victor
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu/Xubuntu 18.04 package includes fonts "Liberation Sans" (etc
"Liberation") with sligtly shrinked font metrics. This issue leads to
all office documents typed in Liberation Sans fonts have corrupted
formatting in Ubuntu 18.04 (but these documents correctly opened in
other OS's, for example Ubuntu 17.10). Documents with corrupted
formatting can not print properly: all paragraphs are shifted up,
embedded tables in text - splitted on page breaks. Document circulation
in system based on Ubuntu 18.04 operating systems temporarily paralized,
because Liberation fonts are basic fonts for open-source document
circulation.

In attachment I have type a example office document with 2 pages and
enumerated strings. On normal ordinary conditions this document have 54
strings on first page and 54 string on second page. But if this document
open in Ubuntu 18.04, it's found than 5 strings from second page moves
to first page. Compare font versions embedded with Ubuntu packages we
can see that versions are different (sudo apr search fonts-liberation*
command):

Ubuntu 17.10 - 1:1.07.4-2, 2.00.1-3
Ubuntu 18.04 - 1:1.07.4-5, 2.00.1-5

I have create a bug 117411 "Font metrics slightly changed after update
OS to Ubuntu 18.04", see
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117411, but I think
that this bug concerns a Ubuntu/Xubuntu 18.04 package.

[Bug 1769640] [NEW] Update evolution to 3.28.2

2018-05-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Impact
==
evolution has released a new stable bugfix release. (These will happen about
once a month until 3.30 is released.)

https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/tree/NEWS/?h=gnome-3-28
https://git.gnome.org/browse/evolution/log/?h=gnome-3-28

Test Case
=
After installing this update, please restart your computer.

Verify that evolution still works as well as it did before.

Optionally, you can go through some of the fixed bugs to verify the bug
and the fix.

Regression Potential

GNOME 3.28 distros will be shipping this update.

There is a micro-release exception for GNOME:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#GNOME

Ubuntu GNOME stopped including Evolution by default in 17.04. Upgraders
may still have Evolution installed and it's a popular app. (It was
demoted to universe before 16.04 LTS.)

Other Info

[Bug 1747411] Re: Change of default database file format to SQL

2018-05-07 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
For corosync the affected components are corosync-qnetd.

I checked and without adaption on install they would be fine as they
initialize a new DB and nowhere does anyone specify the type. But as
with some other tools on an upgrade we have to assume that the old DBM
format will be tried to be read as SQL and then fail.

Worth to notice is that Fedora who started all of this in [1] in their
NSS build still uses DBM as default :-)

corosync 2.4.4-1 of 20th of April made corosync compatible with the nss change.
They prefix all calls with dbm to stay compat until the upgrade is handled by
upstream.
So a merge of this or latter version will address this for corosync.
Afterwards nss can be merged dropping the change of the default.

[Bug 1769203] Re: every revision of snaps are mounted

2018-05-07 Thread Oliver Grawert
@zebul666 since a built-in core feature of snap packages is automated
self-tests and automated roll-back to the former working version you
need at least two versions around.

I believe snapd currently keeps a third one for a potential "factory-
reset" feature (so you can go back to the initially seeded version on a
system). there is no way around having at least two of the snaps around
with the existing design.

that said, only the actually running one needs to be mounted, as stated
above (though after all this is purely cosmetic in the end, the loop
mounts of the squashfses come at zero cost here, they just spam your
/proc/mounts and the output of the mount command)

[Bug 1769203] Re: every revision of snaps are mounted

Keeping the snap is one useless thing. I already knew about that.

Another one is to keep them mounted. Just a stupid waste of ressource
that accomplish extactly nothing.

Who made those design decision ? Why the admin/user is not in charge
here ?

Maybe considering whether to break Slack and Virtualbox is a nice idea

You have plenty of broken packages: downgrade to genuine version via ppa-purge,
clean the system via 'gtkorphan' & bleachbit (as root, carefully select
options) and reboot.
Then dist-upgrade should be easier

[Bug 1769610] Re: Support Intel Atom (Baytrail-I) HS-UART serdev slaves over tty

2018-05-07 Thread Shrirang Bagul
** Description changed:

Support Intel Atom (Baytrail-I) HS-UART serdev slaves over tty

On systems using Intel Atom (Baytrail-I) SoC's, slave devices connected on
HSUART1/2 ports are described by the ACPI BIOS as virtual hardware using
  HID's INT3511/INT3512 [1].

As a consequence, HW manufacturers have complete freedom to install any
devices on-board as long as they can be accessed over serial tty
interface. Once such device is Dell Edge 3002 IoT Gateway which sports
  ZigBee & GPS devices on the HS-UART ports 1 & 2 respectively.

Post 4.15, with CONFIG_SERIAL_DEV_BUS=y, serdev port controller driver
handles the enumeration for the slaves connected on these ports. Also,
/dev/ttySx device nodes for these ports are no longer exposed to the
  userspace.

+ This driver has been submitted upstream and is under review. This issue has
+ been identified as a regression in 4.15 and multiple solutions are being
+ explored. Meanwhile, to support customer and maintain release schedule,
+ this driver needs to be in Ubuntu 4.15 based kernels.
+
+ The impact is limited to systems based on Intel Atom E38XX (Baytrail-I)
+ SoC's.
+
+ More info:
+
Please don't triage, this bug is for tracking purposes only.

[Bug 1769053] Re: Cannot start a guest with more than 1TB of RAM

2018-05-07 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
> Interesting; I thought this was supposed to work.

Exactly that was my thought when triaging it initially
Furthermore I assume people working la57 (https://lwn.net/Articles/730925/) and
such ran tests on much bigger sizes.

> Ah right Dan, if you're seeing the 40 bits physical in the guest you
definitely need to try the flags I suggest in comment 6; host-phys-
bits=true should work for you.

I tested Bionic to be at least on libvirt 4.0 / qemu 2.11.1 when we want
to check things under the "supposed to work now" flag.

Defaults:
Host: address sizes : 46 bits physical, 48 bits virtual
Guest: address sizes : 40 bits physical, 48 bits virtual

I ensured that with option -cpu host,host-phys-bits=true set I successfully get
what my host can provide in the guest:
Guest: address sizes : 46 bits physical, 48 bits virtual

Starting a guest with that >1TB (that would be mostly on swap if needed) works
just fine as expected. Here ~1063 GB from /proc/meminfo
MemTotal: 1114676492 kB

I also checked a more compatible approach like -cpu qemu64,phys-bits=42
and that works as well.

IMHO - if anything - one could argue that libvirt/qemu could be smarter
about e.g. auto adding those arguments (or print a warning) when
crossing a certain memory size.

So for now I'd stick to the "actually works" summary and keep the status
to incomplete.

[Bug 1769404] Re: grub is installed to /dev/sda by default and fails

2018-05-07 Thread Yevhen
Hi, Bin Li. Thanks for your answer.

Do you mean it's not possible for ubiquity to identify by itself the
first disk in boot order without touching manually advanced partitioning
tool or there are some other purposes to choose /dev/sda for grub by
default?

[Bug 1769372] Re: Prompt the user when the power button is pressed on VirtualBox guest

2018-05-07 Thread Norbert
Dear Daniel!

Thank you for replying and for analysis.

1. On clean installation on physical hardware the behavior of Power Button is
as follows:
* on console ttys system shutdowns
* on the GDM system goes to sleep (suspends)
* in GNOME session it asks what to do if run `gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power power-button-action interactive`
manually (no GUI option - it is a bug 1769614 )

So seems to be expected behavior.

2. But if I run Ubuntu as VirtualBox 5.1 guest (this bug report):
* all settings are ignored (both `logind.conf` and `gsettings`).
* I do not have "When the Power Button is pressed" in `gnome-control-center
power`

How to debug this? Should I report special bug to upstream?

[Bug 1769614] [NEW] Unable to set "When the Power Button is pressed" to Ask or Interactive

2018-05-07 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Ubuntu 18.04 on real hardware (since there is a some bug 1769372
VirtualBox)
2. Login to session
3. Open GNOME Control Center, Power (or simply `gnome-control-center power`)
4. Try to set "When the Power Button is pressed" to Ask or Interactive

Expected results:
there is an option to Ask user (or Interactive) dialog

Actual results:
there is no option to Ask user (or Interactive) dialog

Workaround:
set such option from terminal with `gsettings set
org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power power-button-action interactive` (it
will work, but will not be shown in `gnome-control-center power`)

[Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-05-07 Thread Jan Wester
I just tested the thing in #123 and I can only conclude: i am writing
this note in 18.04 with nvidia-396 drivers on a Lenovo Y720. So I can
only agree to what Thijs says. This sounds like a timing problem.
