4.15.0-20.
I just received an update from MintUpdate that reinstalled this kernel
4.15.0-20 and now it works again.
It's just a problem when I put my G35 headset on a USB port and remove
it. By doing this 2x operation

I can access my desktop because i have blacklisted nouveau and using my intel
gpu system which I assume is functioning via mesa drivers nomodeset also works

To create an efi-partition during install, just create a partition and choose
efi instead of ext4.
If I remember correctly, it should be at least 100MB and the default one,

Panel 2 is the panel which is not reserving space.
1, 3, 5 are the bottom panels, so I have hidden them.

I am having same issue. Fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04. Could not boot from
bootable flash installer until I added "acpi_rev_override=1" to boot params.
Kernel 4.15 would lockup after login screen. Was able to login couple of times
but system would eventually lockup randomly while
I am no longer able to reproduce this bug since the installation failure
was caused by a buggy UEFI firmware. I updated the firmware and the
installation worked flawlessly.
I tested various installation methods at the time, so I don't recall the
exact configuration of the device when the error
Another observation around shutdown/restart. If I don't login I can
shutdown successfully.
Additionally for the installer to work I had to install this patch for

My problem was due to a previous Windows installation which was done in
Legacy mode. Thus, installing ubuntu in legacy mode solved the issue.
This is not a bug rather a fail on my side because I did not realised
the Windows installation had created a NTFS recovery partition instead
of an EFI one.

- downgrade via 'ppa-purge', then clean the system with 'gtkorphan' &
'bleachbit' (as root, carefully select options)
- deactivate the other ppas and reboot

4.13 will also be missing support for the new regulatory database
format, so I'd expect the effort to backport there to be similar to that
for 4.4.
