I did not install the image, just ran it from the USB stick.
By default, it does not not have a login screen, since there is a single
user, I believe.
I added a second user, and logged in to that user, which was successful.
But this may be different from what I see on my long-installed system.
Added nomodeset to the lines specified in #26. Ran "update-grub".
Rebooted. Unfortunately, still no GDM login screen.

Is a list of the relevant kernel patches still required for this bug?
What help is required for this backport?

However maybe the make.log won't help. Because you appear to have a
working kernel driver.
I can also see this failure, which is important:
Jun 17 21:09:53 little-black-box gnome-shell[1367]: Unable to initialize
Clutter: Unable to initialize the Clutter backend: no available drivers found.

I'm blocking this SRU for the moment because it introduces a regression
and the banner of the featured app only shows the background image
without any text.
@robert, could you please have a look?

I wonder if the kernel upgrade on 2018-06-13 broke your kernel command
line, which would prevent the nvidia driver from working...
Please add "nomodeset" to the lines:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
of /etc/default/grub and then run:
sudo update-grub
and
I have an old HP 8100 SFF that have the same problem with the 4.15
kernel. I solved it by booting with the following kernel parameters:
acpi=off noapic nolapic

Public bug reported:
Hello,
Since upgrading to Ubuntu 18.04, I'm having trouble printing PDFs in
CMYK colorspace from atril.
The same PDFs printed OK with atril on the same machine when on 17.10,
they print OK on other machines with 16.04 (with evince though), and
they also print OK on 18.04
It's indeed a big mystery when one of the maybe most serious bugs in
18.04 is marked as fixed while it clearly is not

I have the same issue with (a clean/full wipe/ fresh install) Ubuntu
18.04 on a Dell XPS 15 9550.
Previously, on Ubuntu 16.04 downgrading wpa_supplicant to version 2.1
helped resolve this. See here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/690032
Ok,
Thank you so much Daniel.
Cheers!
