[Bug 1697851] Re: package mysql-server 5.7.18-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: problemi con le dipendenze - lasciato non configurato

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1670629 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1670629

this is a known issue that is being worked on, from your log:
mysql_upgrade: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through
socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) while connecting to the MySQL server

TL;DR it is a race and usually resolvable by retrying the
update/install.

I'll dup you on the bug this is worked on to be resolved for real at
some point down the road.

[Bug 1708284] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.19-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

On upgrading a service this service has to be restarted to pick up the fixes.
Rather rarely a real issue occurs that the newer version does e.g. fail with
the formerly working configuration.
But most of the time what happens is, that a service was installed, but stays
unconfigured or experimented with but left in a broken state.

Now on any update of the related packages that service has to be restarted, but
since its config is incomplete/faulty it fails to restart.
Therefore the update of that package has to consider itself incomplete.

Depending on your particular case there are two solutions:
- either remove the offending package if you don't want to continue using it.
- Or if you do want to keep it please fix the configuration so that re-starting
the service will work.

Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem,
rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1777615] Re: OKULAR - can't set print default to duplex

Any progress? Let me mention the bug again:

As of the latest version:
  KUBUNTU 18.04
  OKULAR 1.3.3
that I installed a few says ago, OKULAR ignores the system-wide printer default
"long side duplex", and offers "none" as the default.

This causes frequent wasteful printing!

Hi, nice bug number btw :-)

I currently try to clear dormant bugs.
Looking at your log I see:
mysql_upgrade: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through
socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) while connecting to the MySQL server

That is a known issue that you can find on launchpad, I'll mark your
report as a dup and ask you to read details from there.

In general the issue can be resolved by retrying the upgrade/install.

[Bug 1712496] Re: package ssh 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: vereistenproblemen - blijft ongeconfigureerd

[Bug 1712496] Re: package ssh 1:7.2p2-4ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: vereistenproblemen - blijft ongeconfigureerd

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
from your log:
aug 23 09:45:31 hostname sshd[1051]: error: Bind to port 22 on 192.168.2.4
failed: Cannot assign requested address.
aug 23 09:45:31 hostname sshd[1051]: fatal: Cannot bind any address.
aug 23 09:45:31 hostname systemd[1]: Failed to start OpenBSD Secure Shell
server.

It seems you have configured a listen address that does not exist.
This makes the server (re-)start fail.

And that in turn will break updates/installs.

Please fix your configuration of sshd and things will resolve.

Looping over apache2ctl graceful triggers a crash.

I tried to get a better backtrace with more debug packages and such -
attaching that...

This is from cosmic using 4.5.17-1 there is a changelog of wsgi 4.1 reading
much like it at [1].
Good issues come back.

Never the less I'd ask you to report also upstream and mention the bug
URL you created to track their activity on it as well.Especially since
they already fixed the same in 4.1 they might be interested.

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
I'm clearing old dormant bugs atm.

Here are no good next step to take action.
Also the referred upstream discussion seems to have fallen to slumber.

Did you have luck trying newer versions of this or any other update that
helps to get this bug moving again?

Also we are waiting for answers to comment #5 as for others the issue
seems not to trigger, and clear steps to reproduce would help.

[Bug 1697536] Re: nm strongswan gui doesn't have a way to enter pre-shared key

2018-06-27 Thread Agustin Rivero
Come on,
this a client configuration not a server configuration. In a server you could
enforce the user not to use a insecure password. But is it insecure to
configure the client wrongly? It's like not allowing a login prompt to enter a
short password. Security must be implementing when setting the password in the
server not when login in!!

A client shouldn't impose restrictions in configuration, otherwise it's
not a generic client, it's just a client that works in some cases and
not being a technical limitation but a bad decision on where security
must be implemented.

This applies for not allowing PSK in a client or not allowing a short
password in a client.

[Bug 1702290] Re: slapd fails to stop if /etc/ldap/slapd.d/cn=config.ldif is deleted but /etc/ldap/slapd.d still exists

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
This is essentially a config change breaking the service (re)start. and due to
that upgrades.
While the init could be more resilient it is not really a bug but a
misconfiguration as identified by Ryan already.

Also the error message (these days) is not misleading at all (tried on cosmic):
slapd[26348]: sed: can't read /etc/ldap/slapd.d/cn=config.ldif: No such file
or directory

Which after deleting the file makes sense :-)

[Bug 1702290] Re: slapd fails to stop if /etc/ldap/slapd.d/cn=config.ldif is deleted but /etc/ldap/slapd.d still exists

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 

Setting the task for a whishlist item, since it is essentially a config
change that breaks it (as Mark said 'shot oneself in the foot'.

I'm personally not so keen about on-upgrade detection+warning since that (in
general) has a history of too many false-positives leading people to
config-break their system without a reason.
But then as I read Mark this is due to Debian intentionally changing some
encodings, so maybe it should be done ...

[Bug 1715346] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.19-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi,
from your log
2017-09-06T09:43:38.029093Z 0 [ERROR] Fatal error: Can't open and lock
privilege tables: Table 'mysql.user' doesn't exist
2017-09-06T09:43:38.029127Z 0 [ERROR] Aborting

That lets the server start/restart fail.
[1] recommends to (re)initialize the data dir for this.

But that would require a data dir be modified or killed to occur, so I
have to assume it is some local config change. If it wasn't you maybe a
script/app that tried to change it for you but failed?

[Bug 1715346] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.19-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 

[Bug 1748839] Re: Problem to connect to WPA2/PEAP WIFI - gnome-shell

2018-06-27 Thread Lauwie
A potential fix has been proposed in my askubuntu quesion:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1046810/cannot-downgrade-wpa-supplicant-to-fix-wifi-connection-to-a-corporate-network-w

However, I have not been able to test if this works yet. (as I got some
deadlines and cannot afford a potentially unstable machine at the
moment).

Feel free to try this, otherwise I will in a few weeks time.

[Bug 1717014] Re: host stops searching domains when it gets back NSEC record

2018-06-27 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Jonathan,
I currently parse dormant bugs and this clearly is one.
I see also the other bug against systemd resolver sort of expired as incomplete
:-/

I'm not sure why nothing happened here but you might help potential
debugging if you'd have more detailed repro steps. In the other bug I
saw you have some DNS servers - could one debugging this over here use
the same config to trigger?

If so could you provide the config to trigger the bug locally without the need
to set up a DNSSEC server locally?
Hopefully that helps to get this debugged at some point.

[Bug 1778848] Re: Support for grub upgrades with bios+uefi bootloader targets

2018-06-27 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Performing some test builds before submitting packages to the SRU queue:
https://launchpad.net/~ci-train-ppa-
service/+archive/ubuntu/3308/+packages

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
There are multiple use cases which require both BIOS and UEFI bootloaders
installed on a target image and to keep them both updated.
  - cloud images on clouds that support both BIOS and UEFI boot in alternate
instance types
  - PC installs that should remain bootable in the face of firmware upgrades or
reconfigurations

This currently doesn't work because 'grub-install' selects its install
target based on which of grub-pc or grub-efi-amd64 is installed.

- We should support a package upgrade workflow that supports updating both
- bootloaders on disk wherever possible, including use of --no-nvram
- automatically when necessary, and does not fail awkwardly if e.g. the
- system is booted under BIOS and there is no EFI System Partition
- present.
+ In cosmic we have introduced a --auto-nvram grub-install option that
+ automatically determines if we're running with NVRAM access or not and
+ if yes, updates the NVRAM contents. This allows such dual BIOS-UEFI
+ bootloader setups to work. Same changes are required to be backported to
+ bionic for our cloud images.

- The problem is, if the system is booted in BIOS mode and you call grub-
- install --target=x86_64-efi, the install will fail because it can't
- write to EFI nvram variables.
+ [Test Case]

- There is a --no-nvram flag, but it's incorrect for us to pass this
- unconditionally, because it's the wrong thing to do when we are booted
- in UEFI mode.
+ Basic grub2 grub-install test:
+ * Boot up a bionic system in UEFI mode.
+ * Upgrade grub2-common to the version in -proposed.
+ * Run `grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --auto-nvram` and make sure it
succeeds.
+ * Boot up a bionic system in legacy BIOS mode.
+ * Upgrade grub2-common to the version in -proposed.
+ * Run `grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --auto-nvram` and make sure it
succeeds (actually not doing anything).

- So we need some smarts in grub-install for an additional mode that only
- skips nvram if there is no nvram available.
+ Install test for UEFI (repeat for both server-live, server and desktop):
+ * Download the latest bionic -proposed-enabled image.
+ * Make sure the image includes the -proposed version of grub2, grub2-signed,
shim-signed and grub-installer (and/or ubiquity).
+ * Install the system normally on an EFI system.
+ * Reboot and make sure the system is bootable.
+
+ Install test for legacy BIOS (repeat for both server-live, server and
desktop):
+ * Download the latest bionic -proposed-enabled image.
+ * Make sure the image includes the -proposed version of grub2, grub2-signed,
shim-signed and grub-installer (and/or ubiquity).
+ * Install the system normally on a BIOS system.
+ * Reboot and make sure the system is bootable.

+ TODO: Add cloud image testing.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The backport introduces a change in the dependency chain for grub which,
+ in some cases, can lead to systems loosing their ability to boot.
+ Basically the symptoms to look for is the inability of booting the
+ installed system on EFI or BIOS. A lot of testing and dogfooding will be
+ required to make sure no installation-case has been broken by this.

** Also affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New
