Made a little progress: headphones work with
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
options snd-hda-intel model=mono-speakers
Volume is loud and clear, in stereo!
alsa-info.sh output is attached with coefficients. Headphones were not
plugged in at that time to keep the diffs to a minimum.

With QasMixer I am able to fix it by selecting hw:0 (HDA Intel) and increasing
the second slider from bottom to top, that slider says "auriculares" in spanish

Using a Thinkpad T440 with a Dockingstation (Ultra Dock) using two external

I managed to work around this like this:
* Forcing Windows 10 to use \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi as in "bcdedit /set
{bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi"
* Changing BIOS setup to use Secure Boot (Didn't have it, didn't want it. never
had it).

I installed Xubuntu when running a persistent live Ubuntu system
1. With the options 'toram' 'nopersistent'
It was truly live-only (and the installation worked).
2. With the default settings (no extra boot option compared what comes
with the iso file)
