[Bug 1873083] Re: Lenovo Yoga C940 frequently does thermal shutdown

2020-04-22 Thread Wilson Wang
For me it's even more worse, my cpu would be idleing at 30-40C and
suddenly it will shutdown with thermal thermal_zone3: critical
temperature reached (80 C), shutting down

Could it be a sensor problem?

[Bug 1874194] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 HDMI connected, no boot

2020-04-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have installed Ubuntu 20.04 (using the image created on 20 april) on
my Dell XPS15 9560. This laptop has a Intel / nVidia combo.

The problem i am facing is that when i have an external monitor
connected to the laptop through the HDMI connector of the laptop, Ubuntu
does not boot and hangs on the splash screen. I have not found any way
to get logging on any kind.

Before i was running Ubuntu 18.04 and did not have any problems with the
monitor and HDMI cable. After boot is finished (without monitor
connected) inserting the HDMI cable works fine and i can use the monitor
and laptop screen without any problem.

I have installed the preferred nVida proprietary driver. Also it does
not matter if booting with nVidia selected or Intel selected.

I've worked with upstream AMD and we've fixed the problem in in xf86

I'll prepare a cherry-pick update to 20.04.

I suspect we also need to consider an SRU patch to 18.04 ?

[Bug 1773933] Re: maven spews control characters to its output

2020-04-22 Thread AlainKnaff
Yes, indeed, I did find --batch-mode in the meantime, thanks.

Still, taking into account the TERM variable would be useful, especially
since not all terminals might have the same color codes.

[Bug 1872001] Re: 5.3.0-46-generic - i915 - frequent GPU hangs / resets rcs0

2020-04-22 Thread sanette
So, this problem is serious.
I am surprised that no one else has mentioned the coil noise issue.
I can repeatedly and consistently hear it on 5.3.0-46, while it's absent in
5.3.0-45.
I think this is the sign of something quite bad happening. (maybe too much data
transiting on the bus between cpu and gpu?)

[Bug 1874203] Re: SSD root Filesystem becomes read-only while in use

2020-04-22 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1874203/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

Sorry, I totally forgot that the final patch version came after the power

have been a trivial constant rename.

[Bug 1874054] Re: fail to resize with qxl

2020-04-22 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Since it might be interesting for the release team to accept (or not) this.
The only autopkgtests triggered by this should be those of spice itself.

All good in a pre-check ...
https://bileto.ubuntu.com/excuses/4034/focal.html

... except ppc, but we had done:
force-reset-test spice/0.14.2-4ubuntu1/ppc64el
So the PPC Fail should be ignored.

I agreed with sil2100 that it should be a zero-day SRU instead of
holding up the release.

from Settings. Initializing the variable fixes that.

[Bug 1872145] Re: explicit key offered after all agent keys, auth can fail before explicit key used

2020-04-22 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
There are plenty of workarounds and the internet is full of this issue.
-
https://serverfault.com/questions/36291/how-to-recover-from-too-many-authentication-failures-for-user-root
- https://www.tecmint.com/fix-ssh-too-many-authentication-failures-error/
-
https://superuser.com/questions/187779/too-many-authentication-failures-for-username
- https://blog.jasonmeridth.com/posts/ssh-too-many-authentication-failures/
-
https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/65120/ssh-always-too-many-authentication-failures
- https://www.unixtutorial.org/ssh-too-many-authentication-failures

Workarounds range from "set to PW auth only" via "disable the agent" to "don't
use an agent".
But they are all just workarounds, even those modifying
"PreferredAuthentications" can't set "commandline before agent" as "publickey"
is just one entry in that list - there just is no differentiation between
coming from agent or commandline in this argument.

In fact the issue is so common, there must be an official discussion
with the ssh community somewhere. I just haven't found it yet for all
the help-forums that are higher in the search results.

If forcing the search engines a bit the results are manyfold but old and new
all just refer to the workarounds as far as I could see:
- https://lists.mindrot.org/pipermail/openssh-unix-dev/2016-April/035029.html
- ...

There are many "related but not entirely the same" upstream bugs:
- https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1937
...
But none I could find asked for the simple suggestion here of letting the "-i"
to be "in front" of the agent-identities.

This issue is old as I mentioned…
There might be other launchpad bugs as well, but just to show how old this is
of 2003 and still open
=> https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=203700

In the code they register -i/configured keys in readconf.c:add_identity_file.
There the code even differs between those picked up by default config vs those
specified by the user.
For any key in options->identity_files[n]
options->identity_file_userprovided[n] will be != 0 if provided by the user.

In sshconnect2.c:pubkey_prepare then it builds the list of keys to present.
Per function header that is:
1551 * try keys in the following order:
1552 * »1. certificates listed in the config file
1553 * »2. other input certificates
1554 *»·3. agent keys that are found in the config file
1555 *»·4. other agent keys
1556 *»·5. keys that are only listed in the config file

That flag is carried over when building the list:
1595 »···»···id->userprovided = options.identity_file_userprovided[i];
1596 »···»···TAILQ_INSERT_TAIL(&files, id, next);
The same is true for "certificates" in the list called "preferred"

Agent keys are in the list "agent".
If a key from the "agent" is equal to one in "files" it is dequeued from
"files" and inserted at the tail of "preferred".
Then the remaining agent keys are transferred to "preferred".
This makes the prio list mentioned above.

Eventually it Tail-appends the rest of the "files" list to "preferred"
That list is then filtered for the PubkeyAcceptedKeyTypes option and used.

The end result is in the list "preferred" and what is listed in order in "ssh
-v" as:
  Will attempt key: ...

This surely needs an upstream discussion, but we could make a PoC for it
- try it with a few people here and then go for upstream.

[Bug 1874203] Re: SSD root Filesystem becomes read-only while in use

2020-04-22 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

Have you checked the health of you drive?

Have you booted 'live' media (eg. Ubuntu install media) and checked the
file system for logical errors? (ie. `fsck`) assuming you're drive(s),
PSU & hardware is healthy

etc. (ie. normal support options)

I'm going to mark this bug incomplete, as it appears as if you haven't
followed the normal support procedures first. If however you believe I'm
in error, please leave a comment with details and change the status back
to "New".

[Bug 1874021] Re: avahi-browse -av is empty, mdns not working in arduino ide

2020-04-22 Thread Trent Lloyd
OK thanks for the updates. So I can see a lot of mDNS packets in the
lp1874021.pcap capture from various sources. I can see some printers,
google cast, sonoff, etc. Curiously though when you do the avahi cache
dump it isn't seeing any of these.

Wireshark is showing malformed packets for many of the responses
strangely, the IP and UDP headers indicate a different length to that of
the actual dta. Not sure if this is an issue with wireshark, the
wireless driver or whatever mDNS implementations are replying. May need
further looking at.

But it's curious though that avahi is showing absoultely no cached
services, and that it works on ethernet, given that the lp1874021.pcap
seems to show plenty of actual mDNS packets coming and going.

Could you try start Avahi (on wireless) using --debug

(1) override the systemd config with this command:
systemctl edit avahi-daemon.service

Once the editor opens, add the following 3 lines then save and squit:

[Service]
ExecStart=
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/avahi-daemon -s --debug

Then restart avahi-daemon: sudo systemctl restart avahi-daemon.service

Lastly run "avahi-browse -av", wait a minute or two, then upload a copy
of the "journalctl -u avahi-daemon" again?

[Bug 1869571] Re: Vertical dual monitor setup with main monitor on bottom causes overview to only use one eighth of screen

2020-04-22 Thread Alan AZZERA
Hi, I decided to add information here rather than creating a new bug
report. I'm in dual screen too, main screen at left (32"), secondary
screen (19") at right and in portrait mode (rotated right). The window
are improperly growed : they extend from full main screen to half the
"witdh" of the secondary screen. Additionnally, the « pop-up » menus
(eg. from settings) do not appear at the right place (see screen capture
attached). This is very annoying !

[Bug 1874058] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2020-04-22 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From niklas.schne...@ibm.com 2020-04-22 04:59 EDT---
---Problem Description---
Using the mlx5 device driver on Ubuntu 20.04 (beta), the alloc_pages_nodemask
code generates a stack trace when initializing a device. The driver tries to
allocate more contiguous memory than is allowed by the platform specific
FORCE_MAX_ZONEORDER setting.

FORCE_MAX_ZONEORDER on s390x: 9
FORCE_MAX_ZONEORDER on other platforms: 11 or more

This issue only occurs on ConnectX5 devices because the mlx5_fw_tracer
code is only used for physical functions.

[Bug 1872560] Re: heap-based buffer overflow in bson.c

2020-04-22 Thread Seong-Joong Kim
I would like to update the contents of 'Attack Scenario'.

from:
$ python -c "print('A' * 0x + ' : ' + 'B')" > /var/crash/fake.crash

to:
$ python -c "print('A' * 0xFFFE + ' : ' + 'B')" > /var/crash/fake.crash

Segfault can arise when the following requirements are met, as I mentioned
above.
- length of ‘value’ in .crash file => 0 < {length of ‘value’} < 1024
- length of ‘key’ in .crash file => UINT32_MAX - {length of ‘value’} - 7 <
{length of ‘key’} < UINT32_MAX

Please check this issue.

[Bug 1874217] [NEW] Dual monitor setup with secondary monitor in portrait-right mode cause windows to extend on half the secondary screen

2020-04-22 Thread Alan AZZERA
Public bug reported:

I will provide below a screen capture. I think this bug is related to
this one : https://bugs.launchpad.net/dash-to-dock/+bug/1869571

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 AMD64 fully up to date and freshly rebooted.

I use dual screen : the main screen is on the left side (32"), the
secondary screen (19") is at right and in portrait mode (rotated right).
The window are improperly growed : they extend from full main screen to
half the "witdh" of the secondary screen. Additionnally, the « pop-up »
menus (eg. from settings) do not appear at the right place (see screen
capture in comment). The problem disappears if I revert the orientation
of secondary screen from « portrait turned right » to « landscape ». I
do have gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock in version 67ubuntu20.04.5,
but still got the problem.

[Bug 1872145] Re: explicit key offered after all agent keys, auth can fail before explicit key used

2020-04-22 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Without checking deeper I'm unsure if keys listed in e.g.
/etc/ssh/ssh_config are considered as "userprovided" but lets give this
a shot.

Gladly the debug already contains "explicit" if id->userprovided is
true.

I usually get:
debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_rsa RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: ubuntu@cpaelzer-bastion RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: paelzer@lap RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: pael...@swarm.naarz.dyndns.org RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_dsa
debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_ecdsa
debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_ecdsa_sk
debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_ed25519
debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_ed25519_sk
debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_xmss

with an -i set to a key that is in the agent, the defaults vanish.
And since the key is listed & in the agent it is preferred already

debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_rsa.n RSA ... explicit agent
debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_rsa RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: ubuntu@cpaelzer-bastion RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: paelzer@lap RSA ... agent

But if I create a new key and add it it is NOT preferrd (this is the bug in
discussion here)
debug1: Will attempt key: /home/paelzer/.ssh/id_rsa RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: ubuntu@cpaelzer-bastion RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: paelzer@lap RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: pael...@swarm.naarz.dyndns.org RSA ... agent
debug1: Will attempt key: /tmp/testkey RSA ... explicit

The explicit one is down below in the order since it isn't in the agent.

A final solution might want to insert them somewhere else than the very
top and/or might want to do similar with certificates. But for the test
the attached patch could be enough.

[Bug 1874217] Re: Dual monitor setup with secondary monitor in portrait-right mode cause windows to extend on half the secondary screen

2020-04-22 Thread Alan AZZERA
Note that the video does not show exactly what I'm experiencing. The
right edge of the Firefox window is at a little bit more at right of the
"middle" of the secondary screen (say +500 pixels on the 900 pixels).
And then I move right the mouse to the right edge of the secondary
screen, the left side of my main screen disappear (dock included).

[Bug 1874217] Re: Dual monitor setup with secondary monitor in portrait-right mode cause windows to extend on half the secondary screen

2020-04-22 Thread Alan AZZERA
Additionally, I just realized that if I move the mouse to the right side
of my secondary screen (which is at the riht side of my primary screen),
the "whole screen moves", like if I had a virtual screen which
resolution exceed the native 2560x1440 of my main screen. Difficult to
explain, so please watch the attached video.

[Bug 1873403] Re: [nvidia] Screen turns off when trying to set some fractional scaling values

2020-04-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Findings so far:

1. You really need the uninitialized variable fixed first, or behaviour
can be random (bug 1874207).

2. The current spec can be found at:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/proto/xorgproto/-/raw/master/randrproto.txt

3. NVIDIA supports randr protocol version 1.6, so yes it does support
arbitrary scaling via the command:

xrandr --output NAME --scale WxH (note W and H are inverted so W =
1/scale)

4. The remaining issue here appears to be our mutter patch is setting an
invalid mode, or can't find the mode it expects. So the NVIDIA driver
turns the screen off when it hasn't been given a mode.

[Bug 1872178] Re: GPSD unable to use Kernel PPS

2020-04-22 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
FYI I usually used a usb GPS to check gpsd's function e.g. on a merge of a new
version.
But that one had no PPS capability.

I now ordered one that should have it (via some tweaks on the USB port).
With the current times a delivery from Asia might take a few extra day.
I'll debug this further once I hopefully can reproduce this.

Thanks for commenting, Daniel!

You may be right - the strange thing for me was the effect of the
keyboard-dock separation - as if this were related to some power-saving
settings (as there is a second battery in the keyboard dock)...

But atm this can be closed. Thank you!

[Bug 1873183] Re: Firejail package wants to remove "xorg" packages

2020-04-22 Thread ^rooker
That worked!
(Sorry for the late reply)

I've never used firejail before, but it installed without errors.
I've also tried starting some applications and it seems to work.

Do you agree that this is still an issue, since the regular install way
seems to have "contradicting" dependency issues that could be fixed?

btw: I've tried installing firejail package on Xubuntu 16.04: And there were no
such dependency conflicts: It installed normally without warnings or removal of
base packages.

Thanks for the workaround though!

[Bug 1874219] [NEW] PC suspends after 20 minutes at the login screen

2020-04-22 Thread Graham Inggs
Public bug reported:

Same as LP: #1759325 in Bionic, but this time affecting Focal.

After some update in the last month, my desktop PC now suspends after 20
minutes at the login screen.

I was able to override the setting for my user account by adjusting the
power settings in gnome-control-center. I see no obvious way of
overriding the default for the system.

Asking on IRC, I was pointed at LP: #1868260, but got no response there.

stress.

[Fix]
Make sure kernfs root is not null.

[Bug 1866419] Re: gnome-shell displays date incorrectly for nl_NL locale

2020-04-22 Thread Michael Steenbeek
Thanks, Sebastien. In the end, I waited until the next update. I am
happy to say that, as of language-pack-gnome-nl version
1:20.04+20200416, the fix seems to have made its way into Ubuntu 20.04!

I haven't checked 19.10 and 18.04. As far as I remember, this issue also
affected 18.04, but this has not been put in the metadata. I will
install 18.04 in a VM this week to test if it affects it or not.

[Bug 1873401] Re: Gnome Shell lock-up on GPU hotplug

2020-04-22 Thread Aleksander Miera
Consulted the bug on #gnome-shell IRC.
Next step is to track down the event that actually triggers execution of
cogl_glib_source_dispatch. It's possible it simply does not arrive. BTW, this
does not rule out Xorg as potential culprit, it might be simply not delivering
the expected event. This is yet to be checked.

The intention seems to me to be to mention a few services with many
users irrespective of the conditions for using those services and/or
copyright for the software involved. We don't recommend the services,
but rather inform of a way to interact with those users who do use them.

@Mantas: Do you possibly want to make a merge proposal with the changes
to the page you would like to see?
