[Bug 1882478] Re: smpboot: don't call topology_sane() when Sub-NUMA-Clustering is enabled
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed- xenial' to 'verification-done-xenial'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-xenial' to 'verification-failed- xenial'. If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed. [Bug 1885663] Re: RTL8822BE [10ec:b822] Subsystem [103c:831b] wifi regression
This is my first time tracking down a kernel bug, so it's taking me a little while as I learn the bisection & kernel compilation procedure. As an initial step, I have isolated the problem to something Ubuntu-specific. I have now tried running several mainline 5.4 kernels including, e.g., 5.4.17-050417-generic and found, to my surprise, the wireless signal is strong on those mainline kernels. To summarize my testing: BAD: 20.04 runs a signed Ubuntu 5.4 or 5.6 kernel GOOD: 18.04.4 (live usb) runs the default signed 5.3 kernel 20.04 runs unsigned mainline 5.3, 5.4, 5.8 kernels As a step towards a bisection, I've tried to boot a signed Ubuntu 5.3 kernel (taken from 18.04) on 20.04, but this hangs at the "Loading initial ramdisk" stage -- presumably due to some incompatibility between 18.04 and 20.04. I'll next attempt to compile the Ubuntu 5.3 kernel myself, which will hopefully boot on 20.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885663 Title: RTL8822BE [10ec:b822] Subsystem [103c:831b] wifi regression To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1885663/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

ok thanks that worked a treat. Running snap directly there was a progress indicator so i could see that snap downloads are very very very slow. 200kb/s. I'm on a a basic residential 100Mbits fibre line, so apt downloading deps from the ubuntu mirror is usually quick, 10MB/s. So the snap download is 50x slower than what i am used to. So download 50x slower than usual, and no progress indicator, made me think it was hung when i probably should have just waited half an hour. Normal download speed from apt upgrade straight after the snap install: The following packages will be upgraded: libnss3 snapd 2 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded. Changing `GRUB_TERMINAL=console` based on https://medium.com/@leijerry888/get-grub-menu-back-after-installing- ubuntu-20-04-alongside-windows-dab5de5afc37 fixed the issue for me. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1886581/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1886592] [NEW] Add support for VMware Horizon SSO to gnome-shell
Public bug reported: [Impact] VMware Horizon is a VDI product that runs atop of VMware's normal virtualisation stack, and it supports SSO authentication for login. In the past, the VMware Horizon agent has been pretty buggy, and requires SSO patches to be present to function, otherwise it breaks and causes entire outages for anyone trying to use the VDI. To solve this, VMware had been custom compiling their own libgnome- shell.so libraries with their SSO patches, which are based on oVirt's SSO implementation. When you install VMware Horizon agent to the instance, it overwrites Ubuntu's libgnome-shell.so with their custom compiled one. VMware don't keep their custom compiled libgnome-shell.so library up to date, so bugs that have already been fixed still live on in their library. Also, when Ubuntu updates our gnome-shell packages, it overwrites the custom libgnome-shell.so library, which then causes the Horizon agent to break, and causes outages for anyone using the VDI, which have to be solved by manually copying the custom library back. This situation is untenable for VMware Horizon users, so I have asked VMware to upstream their SSO patches. After a long painful process, they have landed in gnome-shell master. This SRU will significantly improve the quality of life for VMware Horizon users, and will remove the need for VMware to distribute custom libraries. [Testcase] You need an instance that runs on VMware Horizon, and the Horizon agent needs to be installed and running. Ideally, SSO authentication should be enabled to test all features, but it is not necessary to partially test. Test packages are available in this ppa: https://launchpad.net/~mruffell/+archive/ubuntu/sf247978-test If you install the test package in a VMware Horizon VDI, the instance should come up cleanly after reboot and function properly, especially with SSO login. The instance should be able to function without custom libgnome-shell.so libraries provided by VMware. [Regression Potential] The code refactors the oVirt SSO implementation into a more generalised interface, which other virtualisation platforms can use. oVirt has been transitioned to this interface as part of the refactoring, which means that any if the new oVirt SSO implementation is broken, it could break users running in oVirt. VMware's patches also use the new generalised interface, which is much simpler than before, and it has been tested internally by VMware. There was a very long review process with upstream GNOME, which ironed out all of their concerns. I have been reviewing the code along the way, and I am confident that it will not cause any regressions. If a regression did occur, then it would break SSO functionality only. [Bug 1886491] Re: Applying package profile on Xenial doesn't work
It looks like python-apt (1.1.0~beta1ubuntu0.16.04.7) created a regression and elects to ignore Acquire::AllowInsecureRepositories in favor of APT::Get::AllowUnauthenticated. The simpler approach would likely be to backport the [trusted=true] fix we've got working with later releases, instead of trying anything related to the global apt config. ** Also affects: landscape-client (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: landscape-client (Ubuntu Xenial) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: landscape-client (Ubuntu Xenial) Status: New => Confirmed ** No longer affects: landscape-client -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886491 Title: Applying package profile on Xenial doesn't work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/landscape-client/+bug/1886491/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1838329] Re: Cryptswap periodically fails to mount at boot due to missing a udev notification
** Description changed: + [impact] + + systems using cryptsetup-based encrypted swap may hang during boot due + to udevd missing the notification that swap has been setup on the newly + created swap device. + + [test case] + + see original description, and reproduction is intermittent based on + timing + + [regression potential] + + any regression would likely occur during, or after, boot when creating + an encrypted swap device and/or while waiting to activate the new swap + device. Regressions may cause failure to correctly enable swap and/or + hung boot waiting for the swap device. + + [scope] + + this was (potentially) fixed upstream with PR 15836, which is not yet + included in any upstream release, so this is needed in all releases, + including groovy. + + also note while the upstream bug is closed, and code review seems to + indicate this *should* fix this specific issue, there are some comments + in the upstream bug indicating it may not completely solve the problem, + although there is no further debug of the new reports. + + [original description] + On some systems, cryptsetup-based encrypted swap partitions cause systemd to get stuck at boot. This is a timing-sensitive Heisenbug, so the rate of occurrence varies from one system to another. Some hardware will not experience the issue at all, others will only occasionally experience the issue, and then there are the unlucky who are unable to boot at all, no matter how many times they restart. The workaround is for the cryptsetup-generator to generate cryptswap service entries that call `udevadm trigger` after `mkswap`. This will ensure that the udev event is triggered, so that systemd is notified that the encrypt swap partition is ready to activate. This patch has already been submitted upstream to systemd, but it was not accepted because it is a workaround for the side effect of systemd not seeing the udev event upon creating the swap partition. ** Tags removed: bionic ddstreet disco eoan ** Also affects: systemd (Ubuntu Bionic) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: systemd (Ubuntu Groovy) Importance: High Status: Fix Released ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu Groovy) Status: Fix Released => In Progress ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu Groovy) Status: In Progress => New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1838329 Title: Cryptswap periodically fails to mount at boot due to missing a udev notification To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/systemd/+bug/1838329/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1876157] Re: Memtest86+ in Ubuntu 20.04 doesn't work, switch to Coreboot branch or package new release v5.31b is available since 12/04/2020
Get memtest into debian, and it will get pulled in to Ubuntu ... eventually. The reason it hasn't been updated is that Ubuntu does not wish to fork memtest from Debian. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1876157 Title: Memtest86+ in Ubuntu 20.04 doesn't work, switch to Coreboot branch or package new release v5.31b is available since 12/04/2020 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/memtest86+/+bug/1876157/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
