[Bug 1903569] Re: gthumb crashes with Segmentation fault, after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.10
It seems the problem is not specific to gthumb. The segfault happens in iHD_drv_video.so for many programs: Viber: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1287450/viber-executable-crashes-on-ubuntu-20-10 vokoscreenNG: https://github.com/vkohaupt/vokoscreenNG/issues/117 gcompris-qt: - it is how it fail for me It seems that segfaults happen with free intel-media-va-driver but not with intel-media-va-driver-non-free. At least in my case gcompris started working after the replacement. Please try to replace the free driver like this: apt install intel-media-va-driver-non-free ** Bug watch added: github.com/vkohaupt/vokoscreenNG/issues #117 https://github.com/vkohaupt/vokoscreenNG/issues/117 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1903569 Title: gthumb crashes with Segmentation fault, after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gthumb/+bug/1903569/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

First of all, thanks for your time. > One bug report can track a problem across several packages, so there's no need for multiple reports. [Bug 1805129] Re: appmenu-gtk-module makes glade crash
I toyed around a bit based on the post #11 from Alkis Georgopoulos (thank you for that, vala-panel-appmenu.sh is indeed the culprit, that was really really helpful) One solution is change the exec line in the desktop file like: env GTK_MODULES=glade glade %f this is one solution that works. But I think a better solution would be to delete /etc/profile.d/vala- panel-appmenu.sh altogether because the environment variables GTK_MODULES and UBUNTU_MENUPROXY are both not in use in Ubuntu-MATE and AFAICT for GNOME-Desktop only. I deleted /etc/profile.d/vala-panel-appmenu.sh It works without problem and I think it is a bit more elegant. Could/should the file /etc/profile.d/vala-panel-appmenu.sh be marked as a conflict against mate-desktop-environment package ? [Bug 1914610] [NEW] Causes video signal out of range
Public bug reported: Last month, I installed Ubuntu 20.04, with KDE (KUbuntu). Today, I used Synaptic to install gl-117. The first time I ran the program, my monitor screen went black, and displayed the message "Input Signal Out Of Range." The message also said "Change settings to 1600 x 900." I could hear the sound from gl-117. This effectively disabled my monitor. The only thing I could do was force my computer to reboot. The rebooting process was fine. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Since there isn't enough information in your report to differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: https://ubuntu.com/support /community-support Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: mysql-8.0 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914305 Title: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.22-0ubuntu0.20.04.3 failed to install/upgrade: new mysql-server-8.0 package pre-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-8.0/+bug/1914305/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: when booting UC20 on a Pi4 the screen backlight is completely off and no signal is produced. inspecting the boot a little closer it seems the necessary modules for bringing up the vc4 framebuffer are not included in the initramfs on ubuntu core. once they get loaded (after boot) the backlight and signal turn on. [Bug 1914379] Re: SNMP V3 Pdu request size not handled
Hi Alessandro and thanks for this bug report. This is the kind of fix that can be backported to existing stable releases using the SRU process [1]. Given that every change comes with a regression risk, the most important ingredient of a SRU is the broken use case that the proposed upgrade fixes, see [3]. This is missing in both this bug report and in the upstream commit [3] message you pointed us to (thanks!). Could you please provide more information about the problem that [3] fixes, describing the broken use case? Steps to reproduce the broken scenario are normally the best explanation. [Bug 1910562] Re: Fans switching on and off every 10 seconds after update to kernel 5.8.0-34
Hello munbi and thanks for this bug report. I marked the other two bugs you filed as duplicates of this one, and added "tasks" for the packages you filed the other bugs against. One bug report can track a problem across several packages, so there's no need for multiple reports. I don't think xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu is really involved here. If you can reproduce this issue without logging it to the graphical console, i.e. by calling `sensors` from tty, and you agree that this proves that Xorg is not involved, then please change the status of the xserver-xorg- video-amdgpu task to Invalid. My feeling is that we're seeing a kernel issue here. If you can reproduce it with Hirsute (the current Ubuntu devel version) then I think we can add a "regular" kernel task, as the problem is not HWE- specific. Currently linux-image-generic 5.10.0.14.16 is in the Hirsute -proposed pocket. Could you try to test that newer kernel and report how it behaves? I'm setting the status of this bug to Incomplete for the moment, waiting for the results of your testing. ** Changed in: linux-signed-hwe-5.8 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: lm-sensors (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1910562 Title: Fans switching on and off every 10 seconds after update to kernel 5.8.0-34 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-signed-hwe-5.8/+bug/1910562/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1914606] [NEW] Wiping .cache makes gufw fail, cuts network access ?
Public bug reported: I added a line to /etc/fstab to put my ~/.cache on a tmpfs: tmpfs /home/user1/.cache tmpfs nodev,nosuid,mode=1777,size=1G,defaults 0 0 or: tmpfs /home/user1/.cache tmpfs noatime,nodiratime,nodev,nosuid,mode=1777,size=1G,defaults 0 0 [I tried a couple of versions, and rebooted a number of times, not sure of the exact configuration, sorry.] After reboot, the system had no network access. "ping 1.1.1.1" or similar failed. I am using wired Ethernet. Tried various fixes. I eventually fixed the problem by uninstalling gufw. I'm not 100% positive gufw was the problem. But now (with first form of fstab line) everything works. Is gufw storing something in ~/.cache that it shouldn't be ? I should be able to wipe ~/.cache and reboot and have everything work, correct ? I had no rules set in gufw, just enabled and Incoming=Deny. System worked okay with gufw before I added that fstab line and rebooted. [Bug 1914599] Re: efi: Froze efi_rts_wq and disabled EFI Runtime Services
Hello I remind you that at startup, the EFI computer is not in SECURE mode. There is therefore no reason to require that the secure mode be installed. There is an installation option --n0-nvram Use it! It is easy to do a read command of the NVRAM to see that it is refused in reading. This implies that writing will probably not be possible! [Bug 1914599] [NEW] efi: Froze efi_rts_wq and disabled EFI Runtime Services
Public bug reported: Hello I think this problem has been around for many years. For ubuntu, I only found this bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim-signed/+bug/1777228) which was closed. I chose to open a new one. The context is an ubuntu 20.04 installation ": Ign: 1 cdrom: // Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS _Focal Fossa_ - Release amd64 (20200731) focal InRelease" The incident noted in the DMESG is as follows efi: Froze efi_rts_wq and disabled EFI Runtime Services The contents of the Boot-install.txt file show the details. In such an environment, I suggest you do the following development: - Tell the user that the EFI variables cannot be read and that the secure mode will not be activated. - Write the grubx64.efi file in the boot directory instead of the shimx64.efi file, renaming it also bootx64.efi. probably write the grub.cfg file there as well. It seems to me the minimum. - Eventually if the microsoft boot structure is not present, create it and transfer the corrected standard boot structure to it and rename the bootx64.efi file to bootmgfw.efi It also seems possible to me. For more details, please watch this French discussion carefully: https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=2061619 -If the windows boot structure is present and the BKbootmgfw.efi file is missing and if you are brave, you can ask for permission to change the way you boot. If it is granted to you, you must then duplicate the bootmgfw.efi file in BKbootmgfw.efi before starting the transfer of the files from ubuntu. You will also find the attempt to repair "boot-repair" with a very large trace which encounters the same problem. Thank you for improving the situation. ** Affects: grub-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Trace of the bug" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914599/+attachment/5459948/+files/Boot-install.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914599 Title: efi: Froze efi_rts_wq and disabled EFI Runtime Services To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/1914599/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
