[Bug 1903569] Re: gthumb crashes with Segmentation fault, after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.10

2021-02-04 Thread Arie Skliarouk
It seems the problem is not specific to gthumb.
The segfault happens in iHD_drv_video.so for many programs:
Viber:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1287450/viber-executable-crashes-on-ubuntu-20-10
vokoscreenNG: https://github.com/vkohaupt/vokoscreenNG/issues/117
gcompris-qt: - it is how it fail for me

It seems that segfaults happen with free intel-media-va-driver but not
with intel-media-va-driver-non-free. At least in my case gcompris
started working after the replacement.

Please try to replace the free driver like this:
apt install intel-media-va-driver-non-free

[Bug 1910562] Re: Fans switching on and off every 10 seconds after update to kernel 5.8.0-34

2021-02-04 Thread munbi
First of all, thanks for your time.

> One bug report can track a problem across several packages, so there's
no need for multiple reports.

Sorry for the noise :-)

> If you can reproduce it with Hirsute

I can reproduce the problem using linux-image-generic 5.10.0.14.16 from hirsute
in a tty.
To be sure I did it right, those are the steps I followed:

1. added this repo to the list of repos:
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ hirsute-proposed restricted main
multiverse universe

2. updated apt list and installed those packages:
linux-headers-generic/hirsute-proposed
linux-modules-5.10.0-14-generic/hirsute-proposed
linux-modules-extra-5.10.0-14-generic/hirsute-proposed
linux-image-5.10.0-14-generic/hirsute-proposed

3. Rebooted, choose kernel 5.10 from advanced list in grub

4. On gnome login prompt, switched to tty with ctrl+alt+F3

5. Check kernel and packages:
$ uname -a
Linux bestia3 5.10.0-14-generic #15-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 29 15:10:03 UTC 2021
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ dpkg -l | grep 5.10.0
ii linux-headers-5.10.0-145.10.0-14.15
all Header files related to Linux kernel version 5.10.0
ii linux-headers-5.10.0-14-generic5.10.0-14.15
amd64Linux kernel headers for version 5.10.0 on 64 bit
x86 SMP
ii linux-headers-generic 5.10.0.14.16
amd64Generic Linux kernel headers
ii linux-image-5.10.0-14-generic 5.10.0-14.15

ii linux-modules-5.10.0-14-generic5.10.0-14.15
amd64Linux kernel extra modules for version 5.10.0 on
64 bit x86 SMP
ii linux-modules-extra-5.10.0-14-generic 5.10.0-14.15
amd64Linux kernel extra modules for version 5.10.0 on
64 bit x86 SMP

Now, calling 'sensors' from console still causes the problem, i.e. the output
of sensors hangs a couple of seconds just after printing 'amdgpu-pci-0100' and
the fans start spinning.
The only difference with kernel 5.10 wrt kernel 5.8 is that I don't see the
kernel error messages directly into the tty, but they are present in dmesg:

[Bug 1914447] Re: geneve overlay network on vlan interface broken with offload enabled

2021-02-04 Thread Frode Nordahl
Hello Stefan,

Thank you so much for providing backport+built kernel at such short
notice.

We can confirm that by using this kernel in a machine with a Mellanox
Connect-X 5 card in legacy-mode, we can leverage Stateless offload of
Geneve tunnel packets sent over a VLAN interface.

Cheers!

[Bug 1912652] Re: package libc6 2.31-0ubuntu9.1 failed to install/upgrade: new libc6:arm64 package post-removal script subprocess returned error exit status 127

2021-02-04 Thread Balint Reczey
Removing libc6-lse before the release upgrade resolves the issue.

Since the libc6-lse went away in hirsute anyway and ubuntu-release-
upgrader updates are much easier and quicker than glibc ones I propose
adding a quirk to remove libc6-lse before upgrades and possibly install
it again if it is avaliable.

[Bug 1909162] Re: cluster log slow request spam

2021-02-04 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hey James! As we already talked on IRC: I think it's fine to move on the
SRU front without this being released for devel (hirsute) yet, as long
as the fix is present and staged for a near-future release (and gets
there before hirsute is out). So please proceed, but also keep on
working on the hirsute part in the meantime.

  * Merge with Debian unstable. (LP: #1914145)
Remaining changes:
- Fix build and autopkgtest self tests (LP: 1878006).
  - d/rules: build time tests require root
  - d/rules: fix the DEB_GAIN_ROOT_CMD call to dh_auto_test

  * Added changes:
- d/t/test-build: io_uring-cp test fails in all archs

liburing (0.7-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Switch to Standards-Version 4.5.1 (no changes needed).
  * Add new debian/upstream/metadata file.

liburing (0.7-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Bump the minimum version for all symbols in the symbols file, to
workaround that 0.7 upstream version unintentionally broke the ABI
without bumping the SONAME. (Closes: #972758)

liburing (0.7-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream version.
  * Refactor debian/tests/test-build into two loops to avoid repetition.
  * Use link-cp instead of io_uring-cp as example command to test.

[Bug 1914613] [NEW] Autologin not working in Ubuntu Studio 21.04

2021-02-04 Thread Christopher Murdaugh
Public bug reported:

I ticked autologin when installing Ubuntu Studio 21.04. Autologin did
not work. Trying to enable through Settings - System Settings - Startup
and Shutown - Login Screen(SDDM), Behaviour button, caused a DBUS error
message about SDDM Config.

The fix is simple. Remove all lines from /etc/sddm.conf file and reboot.
All functionality correct after that. It seems autologin configuration
is only through /etc/sddm.conf.d/kde_settings.conf

Additionally, removing all lines from /etc/sddm.conf file also
restored correct functionality to the above-mentioned System Settings
Startup and Shutdown section (Sddm Config Manager is then able to
successfully modify kde_settings.conf

[Bug 1909162] Re: cluster log slow request spam

2021-02-04 Thread James Page
Hirsute is currently blocked as I'm working on an interim release ready
for Ceph Pacific - I'm working through a number of 32 bit related issues
on armhf which is taking some time due to build durations on this
architecture.

I have included the patch for this issue in this work:

https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-server-
dev/ubuntu/+source/ceph/+git/ceph/+ref/ubuntu/pacific-snapshot

commit:

https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-server-
dev/ubuntu/+source/ceph/commit/?id=295acf66219bcfd7a2059b5d47a6b5120d23db2e

It would be good if we could move forward with the SRU's for focal and
groovy prior to this landing into the development release.

[Bug 1805129] Re: appmenu-gtk-module makes glade crash

2021-02-04 Thread thom
I toyed around a bit based on the post #11 from Alkis Georgopoulos
(thank you for that, vala-panel-appmenu.sh is indeed the culprit, that was
really really helpful)

One solution is change the exec line in the desktop file like: env
GTK_MODULES=glade glade %f
this is one solution that works.

But I think a better solution would be to delete /etc/profile.d/vala-
panel-appmenu.sh altogether because the environment variables
GTK_MODULES and UBUNTU_MENUPROXY are both not in use in Ubuntu-MATE and
AFAICT for GNOME-Desktop only.

I deleted /etc/profile.d/vala-panel-appmenu.sh
It works without problem and I think it is a bit more elegant.

Could/should the file /etc/profile.d/vala-panel-appmenu.sh be marked as a
conflict against mate-desktop-environment package ?
In that case it would only be installed if the desktop is NOT Ubuntu-MATE

[Bug 1914610] [NEW] Causes video signal out of range

2021-02-04 Thread James F.
Public bug reported:

Last month, I installed Ubuntu 20.04, with KDE (KUbuntu). Today, I used
Synaptic to install gl-117. The first time I ran the program, my
monitor screen went black, and displayed the message "Input Signal Out
Of Range." The message also said "Change settings to 1600 x 900." I
could hear the sound from gl-117.

This effectively disabled my monitor.

The only thing I could do was force my computer to reboot. The
rebooting process was fine. But, when I entered my password, I briefly
saw what I think is the KDE logo. But, again, the monitor screen went
black, and the same message appeared.

What I expected to happen:
I expected to see some gl-117 graphics on my monitor.

Monitor is an HP S2031.

What happened instead:
gl-117 made some sort of change that prevents me from using my monitor.

Sorry about not providing the additional information you need, but as a result
of this bug,
 I CAN'T USE MY COMPUTER!! 

[Bug 1914610] Re: Causes video signal out of range

2021-02-04 Thread James F.
I'm reported this using an older computer. But, at this time, I'm unable
to try using the monitor from this computer on my computer. The old
monitor uses VGA, and my computer does not have a VGA port.

I should not have to buy or change hardware as the result of a software
bug. 

[Bug 1914601] Re: GUI apps do not start from the link created

2021-02-04 Thread Mark Mitrushkin
Also, if I open the desktop shortcut properties I see that target is
truncated:

C:\Windows\System32\wscript.exe C:\\Users\\username\wslu\runHidden.vbs
"C:\\Users\\username\\AppData\\Local\\Microsoft\\WindowsApps\\CanonicalGroupLimited.Ubuntu20.04onWindows_79rhkp1fndgsc\\ubuntu2004.exe"
run "cd ~; . /usr/share/wslu/wsl-integration.s

Could be that the target is too long when `--gui` flag is used?

Without `--gui` flag, the target is much shorter:

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\CanonicalGroupLimited.Ubuntu20.04onWindows_79rhkp1fndgsc\ubuntu2004.exe
run "cd ~; terminator"

2021-02-04 Thread Paride Legovini
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Since there isn't enough information in your report to differentiate
between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking
this bug as Incomplete.

If indeed this is a local configuration problem, you can find pointers
to get help for this sort of problem here: https://ubuntu.com/support
/community-support

Or if you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it
helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem,
explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem
specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

[Bug 1914608] [NEW] no console during boot on UC20

2021-02-04 Thread Oliver Grawert
Public bug reported:

when booting UC20 on a Pi4 the screen backlight is completely off and no
signal is produced.

inspecting the boot a little closer it seems the necessary modules for
bringing up the vc4 framebuffer are not included in the initramfs on
ubuntu core. once they get loaded (after boot) the backlight and signal
turn on. The initrd should include the modules and load them during
boot.

this is also required to bring any kind of bootsplash back to UC20 which
is a reason all our digital signage customers currently hold back on
going forward to UC20.

the modules required are:

ogra@ubuntu:~$ lsmod|grep vc4
vc4 290816 3
drm_kms_helper225280 3 vc4
snd_soc_core 262144 1 vc4
snd_pcm 143360 5 vc4,snd_bcm2835,snd_soc_core,snd_pcm_dmaengine
drm 565248 7 gpu_sched,drm_kms_helper,v3d,vc4

the loading during boot in the journal is shown below:

ogra@ubuntu:~$ sudo journalctl -b | grep vc4
Apr 01 17:23:45 ubuntu kernel: vc4-drm gpu: bound fe60.firmwarekms (ops
vc4_fkms_ops [vc4])

[Bug 1789177] Re: RabbitMQ fails to synchronize exchanges under high load

2021-02-04 Thread Corey Bryant
Seyeong, if the first patch helps fix this bug, we can still add it for
queens->stein. We were considering keeping that patch but had to revert
all of the patches in order to expedite the release with minimum
regression potential and testing needed.

[Bug 1914379] Re: SNMP V3 Pdu request size not handled

2021-02-04 Thread Paride Legovini
Hi Alessandro and thanks for this bug report. This is the kind of fix
that can be backported to existing stable releases using the SRU process
[1]. Given that every change comes with a regression risk, the most
important ingredient of a SRU is the broken use case that the proposed
upgrade fixes, see [3]. This is missing in both this bug report and in
the upstream commit [3] message you pointed us to (thanks!).

Could you please provide more information about the problem that [3]
fixes, describing the broken use case? Steps to reproduce the broken
scenario are normally the best explanation.

Waiting for your reply I'm marking this bug report as Incomplete.

2021-02-04 Thread Paride Legovini
Hello munbi and thanks for this bug report. I marked the other two bugs
you filed as duplicates of this one, and added "tasks" for the packages
you filed the other bugs against. One bug report can track a problem
across several packages, so there's no need for multiple reports.

I don't think xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu is really involved here. If you
can reproduce this issue without logging it to the graphical console,
i.e. by calling `sensors` from tty, and you agree that this proves that
Xorg is not involved, then please change the status of the xserver-xorg-
video-amdgpu task to Invalid.

My feeling is that we're seeing a kernel issue here. If you can
reproduce it with Hirsute (the current Ubuntu devel version) then I
think we can add a "regular" kernel task, as the problem is not HWE-
specific.

Currently linux-image-generic 5.10.0.14.16 is in the Hirsute -proposed
pocket. Could you try to test that newer kernel and report how it
behaves?

I'm setting the status of this bug to Incomplete for the moment, waiting
for the results of your testing.

[Bug 1914606] [NEW] Wiping .cache makes gufw fail, cuts network access ?

2021-02-04 Thread William Dietrich
Public bug reported:

I added a line to /etc/fstab to put my ~/.cache on a tmpfs:

tmpfs /home/user1/.cache tmpfs
nodev,nosuid,mode=1777,size=1G,defaults 0 0

or:

tmpfs /home/user1/.cache tmpfs
noatime,nodiratime,nodev,nosuid,mode=1777,size=1G,defaults 0 0

[I tried a couple of versions, and rebooted a number of times, not sure
of the exact configuration, sorry.]

After reboot, the system had no network access. "ping 1.1.1.1" or
similar failed. I am using wired Ethernet. Tried various fixes. I
eventually fixed the problem by uninstalling gufw. I'm not 100%
positive gufw was the problem. But now (with first form of fstab line)
everything works.

Is gufw storing something in ~/.cache that it shouldn't be ? I should
be able to wipe ~/.cache and reboot and have everything work, correct ?
I had no rules set in gufw, just enabled and Incoming=Deny. System
worked okay with gufw before I added that fstab line and rebooted.

I'm on Kubuntu 20.10, kernel 5.8.0-41-generic, gufw 20.10.0-0ubuntu1

[Bug 1914599] Re: efi: Froze efi_rts_wq and disabled EFI Runtime Services

2021-02-04 Thread geole0
Hello

I remind you that at startup, the EFI computer is not in SECURE mode.
There is therefore no reason to require that the secure mode be installed.

 There is an installation option
--n0-nvram
 Use it!

It is easy to do a read command of the NVRAM to see that it is refused
in reading. This implies that writing will probably not be possible!

You could even set the noefi option in the options of the
/etc/default/grub file !!!

Thank you for improving the situation.

This attached file contains the boot-repair trace with the content of
dmesg trace

[Bug 1914604] [NEW] Add support for new Realtek ethernet NIC

2021-02-04 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
New Realtek ethernet NIC doesn't work.

[Fix]
Add support for new Realtek NIC.

[Test]
With the patch applied, network interface is created, and can reach 1G
speed.

[Where problems could occur]
This patch doesn't bring any functional change, and it doesn't touch any
older hardwares. So there's no chance to bring regression.

I tested below

It was the same scenario I tested

1. upgrading olso.messaging in n-ovs
- 5.35.0-0ubuntu2~cloud0 ( from queens-staging launchpad)
2. I got errors
3. upgrading it to new one
- 5.35.0-0ubuntu3~cloud0

it worked fine for me.

I'm trying to reproduce original issue as I want to test 3rd commit
only. ( reproduction takes time.. )

I remember that only 1st commit didn't solved original issue in my test.

2021-02-04 Thread Martin Pitt
One more thing: That package hasn't worked in literally years, and is
also obsolete. QEMU has had `-device virtio-rng-pci` for a long time
now, libvirt uses it by default, and apparently most cloud providers use
that, too. So I suggest to remove the package from Ubuntu, but *at
least* from the default install.

2021-02-04 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Thanks for the info and the uploads.

That's good to know!

I didn't know it, and just added the bug reference in case it'd
be useful to find out why the no change rebuild was needed.

But I guess that can go in the changelog entry itself, right?

[Bug 1914599] [NEW] efi: Froze efi_rts_wq and disabled EFI Runtime Services

2021-02-04 Thread geole0
Public bug reported:

Hello
I think this problem has been around for many years.
For ubuntu, I only found this bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim-signed/+bug/1777228) which was
closed.
I chose to open a new one.

The context is an ubuntu 20.04 installation
": Ign: 1 cdrom: // Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS _Focal Fossa_ - Release amd64 (20200731)
focal InRelease"

The incident noted in the DMESG is as follows
efi: Froze efi_rts_wq and disabled EFI Runtime Services

The contents of the Boot-install.txt file show the details.

In such an environment, I suggest you do the following development:
- Tell the user that the EFI variables cannot be read and that the secure mode
will not be activated.
- Write the grubx64.efi file in the boot directory instead of the shimx64.efi
file, renaming it also bootx64.efi. probably write the grub.cfg file there as
well.
It seems to me the minimum.

- Eventually
if the microsoft boot structure is not present, create it
and transfer the corrected standard boot structure to it and rename the
bootx64.efi file to bootmgfw.efi
It also seems possible to me.
For more details, please watch this French discussion carefully:
https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=2061619

-If the windows boot structure is present and the BKbootmgfw.efi file is
missing and if you are brave, you can ask for permission to change the way you
boot.
If it is granted to you, you must then duplicate the bootmgfw.efi file in
BKbootmgfw.efi before starting the transfer of the files from ubuntu.

You will also find the attempt to repair "boot-repair" with a very large
trace which encounters the same problem.

Thank you for improving the situation.

[Bug 1914279] Re: linux from security may force reboots without complete dkms modules

2021-02-04 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
@seth-arnold @mdeslaur

Mostly the dkms packages ship source code only, without strict binary
deps on packages/libraries from updates. It should be safe to publish
them into -security pocket.

It is correct that there were a few bugs with dkms modules, which are
now resolved in -updates. But one can still upgrade from offline
installation using 20.04.1 media to something broken.
