[Bug 1775131] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 networking issue (connection drops after approx. 15 minutes)
Also observing this in 20.04.2 (kernel 5.4.0-70). I will try swapping out physical transceivers on both ends of the link and a new switch port... Of particular interest to me, netplan does not appear to re-run when this happens. I have a device renaming rule that matches on name, sets IP, and sets name. This device never comes back up unless I manually run netplan apply (which is always successful, but obvs. untenable). The root device (eno2) is not even listed in `ip link` output during the incident. [Bug 1922266] [NEW] eth0 interface name change fails on Pi 3/3+
Public bug reported: The netplan configuration in ubuntu-raspi-settings (and more widely, the network-config in the gadget used on the server images) fails to rename the internal ethernet interface on Pi 3B and 3B+ models from "en" to "eth0". In the netplan case this is because the driver matching logic doesn't handle space-separate driver matches (although the underlying networkd system does); in the cloud-init case it simply refuses to rename interfaces that aren't matched by full MAC address. The intended fix is to stop attempting to do this via netplan or cloud- init, and simply handle this via a networkd .link file in ubuntu-raspi- settings. This will require an update to the relevant seeds as this package is currently only pulled into ubuntu-desktop-raspi, not ubuntu- server-raspi. ** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1922266 Title: eth0 interface name change fails on Pi 3/3+ To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1922266/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1922260] Re: `make olddefconfig` results in a kernel missing support for touchpad and wifi
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I currently use Groovy (20.10) on an HP Pavilion x360 laptop; the wireless card is a Realtek 8821ce. For over a year, I've depended on an unofficial wireless driver from GitHub for lack of kernel support. However, the release candidates for Linux 5.12 that came out recently have begun to include support for this card, which motivated me to download and compile v5.12-rc5. There are various resources on AskUbuntu and the Ubuntu website itself providing instructions on how an upstream kernel can be compiled and installed; I will skip the details unless asked. The basic commands I used were: cp /boot/config-5.8.0-48-generic .config time make -j9 olddefconfig bindeb-pkg followed by "dpkg -i" for the headers and the image. I rebooted and entered a kernel supporting neither my touchpad nor my wireless card. I poked around a little and realised that olddefconfig is somehow excluding kernel modules which support the above two hardware components. I edited the .config file manually to indiscriminately enable everything pertaining to HID and RTL8821, and compiled a kernel that does work. Therefore, the bug I am requesting to be fixed is the omission of necessary kernel configuration options on the default /boot/config-5.8.0-48-generic file. The fix I am requesting is the inclusion of these options, although I'm not sure from looking at /proc/modules which ones they are. So in the attachment section I'm going to reproduce the contents of /proc/modules and both kernel configs - this will all be in one file because I cannot seem to upload multiple attachments. Hopefully, this will be enough for the issue to be fixed so that the many users of the RTL8821ce chip can switch over to a suitable kernel sooner rather than later (which will apparently be some time after Ubuntu Hirsute ships with Linux 5.10.) [Bug 1922130] Re: Request addition of Fedora / Redhat "sftp-force-permissions" patch
Hi Mark and thanks for this bug report. I can see how the flag introduced by the "sftp-force-permissions" patch could come handy, however I doubt we are going to include in the Ubuntu package unless there's a compelling reason for doing so. And if such a compelling reason did exist, then I think it should be brought to the attention of the upstream openssh developers, without delivering the functionality with a distribution specific patch. My suggestion here is to: - Poke upstream about this. Note that they may have a good rationale for *not* including the patch, given that it's small and they didn't already do so. - File a bug in Debian. The Ubuntu openssh package is almost a sync from Debian, which is another good reason to avoid including an additional delta to it, with all its long-term implications (old memories here: [1]). If Debian includes the patch then Ubuntu will pick it up with the following package syncs or merges. I'm going to triage this as a Wishlist bug for now. This is not a final word, but I doubt the importance of this bug is likely to be bumped without a compelling use case that would be enabled by adding the patch. On 2021-04-01 16:23, DarkTrick wrote: > 1) It has a "Quit" option. If you should not quit it, there should be > no "Quit" option in the menu. That confuses me. I see that you use an XFCE desktop, and the only icon you should have AFAIK is "IBus Preferences" which starts a GUI for certain settings. Quitting that should only quit "IBus Preferences" while ibus-daemon should keep running. If you have something else, can you please take a screenshot to show us what it looks like. ibus-daemon is not an application. It's a background process, and on Debian/Ubuntu it's started silently at login while a few related environment variables are set. If you want to use some other IM framework, e.g. Fcitx or uim, you can tell the system so in "Language Support", and after next reboot it will start Fcitx or uim at login instead and assign other values to the related variables. > However, in crashes in 18.xx I remember that `ibus restart` would > simply tell me "there is no running instance" and do nothing. Right, if the ibus-daemon process is not running, "ibus restart" won't help. [Bug 1922257] [NEW] brcmfmac43430-sdio.clm_blob needs to be diverted
Public bug reported: A recent update of linux-firmware 'fixed' dangling symlinks and now the raspi kernel tries to load brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.clm_blob from the linux-firmware package but uses the FW blob brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin from the linux-firmware-raspi2 package. [Bug 1921983] Re: libpcap pcap_findalldevs_ex funtion not correct
Thank you for your report. If I understand correctly you are trying to compile something from source, and the compilation doesn't work anymore on Focal, while it did on Bionic. This might be because the libpcap package got updated and it's not compatible anymore with your codebase. However in this case the problem you're facing can't be considered a bug in Ubuntu. You can find pointers to get help for this sort of problem here: https://ubuntu.com/support/community-support If it turns out that your issue is a bug in Ubuntu, then we need a full bug report please. Until then, we can't make any progress on this report, and you won't find many people who can help you here - we have better venues where there is a community willing to help - see the link above. If you believe that this is really a bug, then you may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New. ** Changed in: libpcap (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1921983 Title: libpcap pcap_findalldevs_ex funtion not correct To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libpcap/+bug/1921983/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: [impact] systemd spams journal with log messages [test case] see journalctl output and search for msgs similar to those listed in - original description below + original description below; specifically messages containing text with + "below legacy directory /var/run/" or "lacks a native systemd unit file" [regression potential] any regession would likely result in logs incorrectly not logged when detecting a problem such as lack of native unit file, or using /var/run. [scope] this is needed in f/g this is fixed upstream with commit https://salsa.debian.org/systemd- team/systemd/-/commit/0c6d90f783093fc255e529f8a33b2ed2a8e6c2d6 from debian, which is included in 247.3-2 and later so this is fixed in hirsute already (in -proposed package). these log messages aren't present in b or earlier so aren't needed in x/b [original description] systemd in hirsute spams the syslog file several times per second about services lacking native systemd unit files. [Bug 1873922] Re: 20.04 not compatible with virtualbox-guest-x11: Fails changing display
I am running Xubuntu 20.04 as both my host and guest, and I ran into this same issue. The root cause is that GCC is missing in the guest, which is required to build the kernel modules. You can install it using this command: sudo apt-get install build-essential Once it's installed, you need to at least attempt rebuilding the kernel modules: sudo /sbin/rcvboxadd quicksetup all NOTE: previous versions of VirtualBox used the following command instead: sudo /sbin/vboxconfig If trying to rebuild the modules doesn't work, try reinstalling VirtualBox Guest Additions entirely (run these inside of the mounted Guest Additions ISO directory): cd /media/*/*/ sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run Here are my software versions for reference: On the host (Xubuntu 20.04): lsb_release -r Release:20.04 dpkg -l virtualbox virtualbox-guest-additions-iso virtualbox 6.1.16-dfsg-6~ubuntu1.20.04.1 virtualbox-guest-additions-iso 6.1.16-1~ubuntu1.20.04.1 VirtualBox version from Help->About Dialog: 6.1.16_Ubuntu r140961 On the guest (Xubuntu 20.04): lsb_release -r 20.04 VBoxClient --version 6.1.16r140961 gcc --version 9.3.0 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1873922 Title: 20.04 not compatible with virtualbox-guest-x11: Fails changing display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox/+bug/1873922/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
