[Bug 1928526] [NEW] DHCP Cluster crashes randomly

2021-05-14 Thread Phil Fenstermacher
Public bug reported:

We're running in to a case that's very similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/dhcp/+bug/1872118 where the DHCP server
periodically crashes. Crashes sometimes take days to happen on
relatively busy DHCP servers. There's not an obvious reason, however the
logs end up showing (hostnames and email address changed slightly to
keep meaning, but not disclose everything).

[Bug 1928519] Re: It seems you have modified the contents of "/etc/update-manager/release-upgrades". Would you like to add the contents of it to your bug report?

2021-05-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end-of-life on April 29, 2021.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in.

You've filed the bug against `ubuntu-release-upgrader` ; the tool which would
upgrade your 16.04/xenial system to 18.04/bionic. If your system was just
installed 10 days ago, I'd recommend installing with supported media
(particularly Ubuntu 20.04 LTS).

A Support site would I suspect be appropriate at getting around this
issue quickly, eg. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-
support/709

Please also note; as 16.04 is now no longer in standard support, many
sites don't provide support unless your question is specific to aiding
you to move to a supported release of Ubuntu.

FYI: 16.04 means the 2016-April release of Ubuntu which had 5 years of
standard support ending 2021-April.

[Bug 1926932] Re: Error message too short to understand what is wrong

2021-05-14 Thread Nav
@Daniel: I'm not reporting a bug about the error displayed in the image I
attached. I'm saying that the message bubble was too small to display the
error, and even if I clicked the message bubble, it didn't expand to display
the full error message. Moreover, the bubble appeared over some folders, and
temporarily blocked my view of the files/folders in Nautilus.
@Chris. I ran appport-collect for this bug just now. When I received your
message about running apport-collect, I didn't have a clue about how it'd work
and what the point of it was. So I didn't run it until now. I've been through
the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs page innumerable times, and I assure
you, it's extremely frustrating to read through all that text and not be able
to figure out why y'all wrote all that, when all I wanted to do was to just
search if the bug is already reported, and then just file a bug report. I could
volunteer to improve the UX of that wiki page. But Perhaps what's more
important, is to not require users to read through all of that, and maybe have
a web page that would take them through a step-by-step process of what they
want to achieve.

[Bug 1928312] Re: ghost compose window with wayland

2021-05-14 Thread Martin Kaistra
I disabled the extensions you listed and could still reproduce it. Then
I also started to disable the extensions shipped with Ubuntu, it also
happens with 'Ubuntu Dock' disabled.

However, at least right now, I cannot reproduce it when 'Desktop Icons
NG (DING)' is disabled, so maybe this is the problematic extension?

[Bug 1920730] Re: gstoraster: Ghostscript runs to long while converting djvu files to Xerox`s 3210 format

2021-05-14 Thread Valentyna
I open evince (simple document viewer on Ubuntu), than I press Ctrl+P and
Print. My djvu file has 158 pages. Gstoraster converts it to 3210 format more
than 15 minutes. It does not matter which djvu file to print.
My patch still solves the problem, execution is very fast.
I try to put "-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=612 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=792" and it also
works, but I don`t want to "hardcode" this values. I want to take this values
dynamically."if (ppd)" is still present in your code, I just put it as you did.

2021-05-14 Thread Nav
Also, I've marked bug 1928208
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1928208) as a duplicate of this
bug. 1928208 has a better image description of how the problem could be
solved, by displaying the message higher up. Perhaps what could also be
included, is the functionality of taking to the user to a screen where
they can see more details about the message if they click the message. I
noticed that clicking a circle near the date displayed, opens up a box
that shows recent messages. Perhaps this existing functionality could be
developed further (image attached) to be made more useful in terms of
displaying more details.

[Bug 1928327] Re: logrotate on 20.04 is ancient and misses important bugfixes

2021-05-14 Thread lonix
Frankly that went over my head, so unsure how to respond. :)

I used a VM to test (manually updating by installing a deb) and all
issues disappeared - that was my "test". I suppose that's not good
enough according to your comment.

Perhaps let's just close this issue? I'll need to wait for ubuntu 22.

(BTW: when you work on a new ubuntu version, do you just upgrade to the
latest package version, or do you follow the same approach you explained
above? i.e. you never just upgrade to "latest".)

[Bug 1926932] Re: Error message too short to understand what is wrong

2021-05-14 Thread Nav
@Daniel. I ran the command in command #4. That's a lot of sensitive
info, in my opinion, to post on a public forum. Besides, this bug is
about the display of an error message, and does not require all that
info. For any future bug reports that do require such information, it'd
help to either have a private mode of submitting info, which allows only
a limited number of legit people to view the details, or to request the
user for specific portions of the journalctl output, explaining why that
info is required.

[Bug 1867092] Re: Failed to set MokListRT: Invalid Parameter

2021-05-14 Thread Nav
@Steve: I had mentioned installer issues in Comment 12 for bug 1905491
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-creator/+bug/1905491/comments/12).
Entered my computer's BIOS and checked...there was no option for secure boot
or MokManager. Very confident that the old BIOS does not support these. The
following partitions were what got automatically created:
DeviceType.
/dev/sda1 BIOS boot.
/dev/sda2 EFI System.
/dev/sda3 Linux filesystem.
@Dimitri: It'll be many days before I can download and try a live USB boot of
Impish. Although I'm not sure if live boot will show the error I've mentioned
in comment #28. The error of comment #30 I could perhaps reproduce, by creating
a dual boot with Groovy Gorilla. It'll take a while before I can start with
this.

[Bug 1571925] Re: grub-install: error: cannot find EFI directory.

2021-05-14 Thread Bjoern Toschi
Just to leave relevant information for ppl. reaching this page from
google (like me ;) )

I had similar issue after running normal dist-upgrade on 20.04 which was
working fine since months, which is an "old" upgraded system (originally
started as Ubuntu 06 ;) ), dual-boot with Windows 10 which I had recently (b/o
this year) moved to a NVMe SSD (which required me to switch to EFI boot).
Now, I somehow followed guidelines how to do that, but most were not fully
working for me and I had to re-install Windows 10, and I somehow managed to
miss a vital part:
The '/boot/efi' entry in fstab !

After adding this entry, doing 'sudo mount -a' and re-running dist-
upgrade everything worked fine.

The fstab entry should look like:
UUID=5A8E-000B  /boot/efi  vfat   umask=0077  01

Replace the UUID by what's returned by blkid command on EFI partition.

Hope this info saves someone ;)

2021-05-14 Thread Thomas Bechtold
bionic verification successful.

I changed the testing plan given that using the package from proposed
with ubuntu-old-fashioned is not that easy.

I did now use launchpad itself to build (see
https://code.launchpad.net/~toabctl/+livefs/ubuntu/bionic/proposed):

- bionic ubuntu-oci build:

https://code.launchpad.net/~toabctl/+livefs/ubuntu/bionic/proposed/+build/275412/+files/buildlog_ubuntu_bionic_amd64_amd64-minimized-all_proposed_BUILDING.txt.gz

Testing the docker container tarball:

$ cat << EOF > Dockerfile
FROM scratch
ADD bionic-minimal-cloudimg-amd64-root.tar.gz /
CMD ["/bin/bash"]
EOF

$ docker build .

[Bug 1920730] Re: gstoraster: Ghostscript runs to long while converting djvu files to Xerox`s 3210 format

2021-05-14 Thread Till Kamppeter
Thank you very much for the sample file.

I have printed it into a PDF file from evince to be able to do further
tests manually on the command line.

This way I have done some tests and found out that adding
"-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=XXX -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=YYY" with any non-zero
values for width and height works (giving the correct page count), small
values make it even faster. So for now the best command line is

gs -q -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=bbox -dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=1
-dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=1 sample2.pdf 2>&1 | grep -c HiResBoundingBox

and this command line is independent of the PPD file.

2021-05-14 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

"GrubInstaller failed"

Your grub installation failed, and a Support site would I suspect be
appropriate at getting around this issue quickly, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu.

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support
options please look at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-

use Shift+Ctrl+Alt+R to start and stop the recording. Then look in your

[Bug 1851573] Re: configuration file //.config/debconf-kde-helperrc not writable

2021-05-14 Thread lirel
The error message clearly states, that kde tries to write to a file in
the root directory of the system and not in any home directories.

Let's track down where the $HOME variable substitution gets lost in between.
Attached we see an other flavor of this message with only one slash where a
tilde or path to the home directory should be visible:
[1] kde-debconf-helperrc.jpeg

[Bug 1928452] [NEW] Impish update: v5.12.4 upstream stable release

2021-05-14 Thread Paolo Pisati
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification

Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

   v5.12.4 upstream stable release
   from git://git.kernel.org/

[Bug 1928455] [NEW] system doesn't boot after patch w/ bug 1925010

2021-05-14 Thread Nik F
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu doesn't boot on my system after the patch yesterday which
includes the fix for this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim/+bug/1925010

Not sure if it's directly related to that bug, or something else. Is
there some sort of boot logging I can enable? Or have my system stop
rebooting itself in a loop, and just display errors?

Ubuntu also reset my grub config, which has been filed as a bug multiple

that.

Ubuntu 21.04, up to date as of yesterday. I'll have to dig for more

[Bug 1917414] Re: Ceph-osd fails to start with "error while loading shared libraries: cannot make segment writable for relocation: Permission denied"

2021-05-14 Thread Aurelien Lourot
I confirm that focal-proposed is fixed. I've validated this by deploying
a Juju OpenStack bundle on focal arm64 using `distro-proposed` as source
/openstack-origin. The issue I was seeing in the past (`/usr/lib/aarch64
-linux-gnu/ceph/erasure-code/libec_isa.so` that could not be loaded,
leading to the ceph-mon charm being stuck 'executing') has now vanished.
That setup is running ceph-common 15.2.11-0ubuntu0.20.04.2

[Bug 1928458] [NEW] inconsistent and unneeded password prompts

2021-05-14 Thread Nicolas Damgaard Larsen
Public bug reported:

On several occasions I have experienced that gnome-keyring prompts to be
unlocked when I believe it should not.
* I have Spotify installed as a .deb. When starting Spotify, on some occasions
gnome-keyring prompts to be unlocked, on others not. This behaviour has been
observed both when gnome-keyring has been unlocked in advance as well as when
not. I have not added my Spotify password to gnome-keyring.
* same behaviour as described above when starting Lutris. Did also not add any
Lutris related passwords to gnome-keyring.
* similar behaviour is observed with other applications where no passwords have
been added to gnome-keyring.

Whether or not I actually unlock the keyring, it has no functional
impact in these cases.
