[Bug 1801540]

2021-09-09 Thread rodomar705
Updates on this long endeavor as of today: I choose to give another try
for switching from PulseAudio to the PipeWire sound server.

The problems are completely gone. No audio clicking anywhere on the system.
I have tried one month ago, but on reboot I was not having any audio coming out
from the system. Now everything worked on install right from the get go. Tried
also the mic under Steam, which always had audio clicking issue while acquiring
and audio stalling (don't remember under what condition); acquisition is now
perfect. Tried to dual test recording from Steam Voice and Discord while
playing audio, no delay, no crackling, no issue. All streams are working
simultaneously. I still have not long tested this, by the way, but on a first
impression, yes, it fixed a lot of issues for me.

The only minor configuration issue was to switch the microphone
detection method in the PipeWire configuration file, otherwise no
microphone were detected. After that, everything work as it should, for
now.

The issue on my end was definitely PulseAudio. If you still have
problems, try PipeWire if you can or if fits your needs. This definitely
solved my problems, maybe it will help yours too.

Marco.

2021-09-09 Thread Eberger-c
I disagree. "Open containing folder" is common terminology and makes it
clear that you are opening the folder that contains the bookmark you are
examining. This is how Chrome does it. I also use a fabulous file
manager called Directory Opus that uses the same terminology.

I concur. Open Containing folder is extremely common usage across all
sorts of programs (esp. web browsers, but also most file managers - can
confirm with Nautilus as well) and is even used by Firefox's download
manager. Keeping this consistent is a must.

[Bug 1672139]

2021-09-09 Thread Rtestard
We met with Meridel, I agree with her that "Open containing folder" may make
sense to the technical audience but will feel clunky / not plain language for
general population.
Chrome and Edge use "Show In folder" which feels more natural and will align
with other browser patterns.
We decided to go with "Show In folder" for this reason and I also raised bug
1729447 to address the download panel context menu for consistency.
I hope everyone feels this is a good approach, never easy to find the right
labels given the variety of user types.

"Open containing folder" is a bit confusing. I'd recommend this label,
which could be used in both instances that Romain describes (context
menu from search results, and context menu for downloads): Open folder

Romain, agree?

[Bug 1801540]

2021-09-09 Thread tiwai
That's a good discovery. This change makes sense, as the different of
PRESET_ATI_SB from PRESET_AMD_SB is about the position reporting. ATI_SB uses
the legacy LPIB register read while AMD_SB uses the position buffer table.
This could be verified by changing position_fix module option: 1 is LPIB and 2
is position buffer.

If we can confirm that this change generally improves the behavior, I
can merge the fix quickly to the upstream. Can anyone else check it?

[Bug 1801540]

2021-09-09 Thread korrode
FYI, the 'solution' for this issue that is now in the kernel breaks
capturing screen+currrently playing audio with ffmpeg, for me at least,
on AMD Raven hardware.

I tried many things but could not achieve good audio capture that is
synchronised, not when capturing from Pulse anyway.

I'm guessing it's being in BATCH mode, and Pulse not operating with
tsched, that is the problem, not the rest of the patchwork.

Nonetheless I just wanted things to work as before without any doubt, so
I now have my kernel patched with the following (restoring 1022:15e3 to
use the parameter sets it used to before all this) and everything is
working fine now:

concerned that the current solution should've been further tested and developed

Thanks for the ping, first I want to make sure that I correctly understand the
change, my understanding is:
1 Open the library modal
2 Enter a search term in the "Search bookmarks" search bar, results appear
3 Right click one of the search results, context menu appears. One new entry
"Open Containing Folder" is available underneath the other "Open" entries
4 Selecting "Open Containing Folder" opens the bookmark folder and selects it
on the left hand side and selects the bookmark on the right hand side

Assuming the above is right I'd propose the following:
- use "Open Containing Folder" for consistency with the "Downloads" section of
the "Library" Window where this context menu entry already exists
- Locate this new entry underneath other "Open" entries

Yes, that's the intention and what the patch currently does.

That sounds good to me. One slight different to Downloads is on Mac
we'll want to keep "Open Containing Folder" and not use "Show in Finder"
(obviously).

[Bug 1939853] Re: mysqli: Using a cursor with get_result() and prepared statements causes a segmentation fault

2021-09-09 Thread Matthew Ruffell
I took a look at the autopkgtest regression for php-luasandbox on arm64.

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-
focal/focal/arm64/p/php-luasandbox/20210908_213035_50d50@/log.gz

We fail on:

FAIL profiler sorting [tests/profiler-sorting.phpt]

I started a t4.medium arm64 instance on AWS, installed autopkgtest and
ran:

$ sudo autopkgtest php-luasandbox_3.0.3-2build2.dsc --apt-
pocket=proposed -- null

Each run, the test always passes:

PASS profiler sorting [tests/profiler-sorting.phpt]

Interesting. Full test output below:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/3kZ2Yj4nKt/

The software I was running to conduct the tests, clearly showing php7.4
from -proposed is installed:

$ uname -a
Linux ip-172-31-28-33 5.11.0-1017-aws #18~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 27
11:19:40 UTC 2021 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux

$ sudo apt-cache policy php7.4-cli
php7.4-cli:
  Installed: 7.4.3-4ubuntu2.6
  Candidate: 7.4.3-4ubuntu2.6
  Version table:
 *** 7.4.3-4ubuntu2.6 500
500 http://ap-southeast-2c.clouds.ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports
focal-proposed/main arm64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

So why does the test consistently fail on autopkgtest infrastructure?

Looking at the test itself:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/kwZNrgb3fk/

We see why. The test itself is based on completing three busy loops
counting from 0 to 1e6, 0 to 4e6 and 0 to 2e6, all within a 0.5s window.
If the arm64 based autopkgtest server / VM is under high load, then it
might get scheduled out and not complete within the timeframe, and cause
the loop to break and the test to error.

The test is inherently flaky and based on VM performance. On AWS with
just this running, the autopkgtest passes every time. This should not be
a reason to prevent php7.4 7.4.3-4ubuntu2.6 from being released to
-updates.

[Bug 298480]

2021-09-09 Thread Kurt Hindenburg
Git commit 18dc0fde2b47b70ac65e4a0400ed0b79c12b1196 by Kurt Hindenburg, on
behalf of Christoph Cullmann.
Committed on 06/09/2021 at 16:35.
Pushed by hindenburg into branch 'release/21.08'.

improve session closing behavior

the new session close behavior is again the old

- first send SIGHUP and wait one second if that works
- then hard kill

before we tried to send an EOF character
this needed workaround to not kill "non shell" programs
unexpected and doesn't work e.g. if

- you have some not finished command input in your shell
- on e.g. FreeBSD in general

When closing the session with some background process still running:
- using Ctrl+D (which sends EOF) will leave that background process running
  (which is the expected behaviour with e.g. BASH:
  https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-bash/2009-03/msg00091.html)
- using e.g. the close button on the titlebar will close the session and kill
any background processes

You can also use 'somecommand & disown', if you want to ensure background
processes
aren't killed when you close a konsole window.

[Bug 1943109] [NEW] Merge 1.1.1l-1 version from Debian

2021-09-09 Thread Simon Chopin
Public bug reported:

This new upstream version consists only of a couple security fixes, and
should thus be merged into Impish.

Upstream changelog:

 Changes between 1.1.1k and 1.1.1l [24 Aug 2021]

  *) Fixed an SM2 Decryption Buffer Overflow.

 In order to decrypt SM2 encrypted data an application is expected to call
the
 API function EVP_PKEY_decrypt(). Typically an application will call this
 function twice. The first time, on entry, the "out" parameter can be NULL
and,
 on exit, the "outlen" parameter is populated with the buffer size required
to
 hold the decrypted plaintext. The application can then allocate a
sufficiently
 sized buffer and call EVP_PKEY_decrypt() again, but this time passing a
non-NULL
 value for the "out" parameter.

 A bug in the implementation of the SM2 decryption code means that the
 calculation of the buffer size required to hold the plaintext returned by
the
 first call to EVP_PKEY_decrypt() can be smaller than the actual size
required by
 the second call. This can lead to a buffer overflow when
EVP_PKEY_decrypt() is
 called by the application a second time with a buffer that is too small.

 A malicious attacker who is able present SM2 content for decryption to an
 application could cause attacker chosen data to overflow the buffer by up
to a
 maximum of 62 bytes altering the contents of other data held after the
 buffer, possibly changing application behaviour or causing the application
to
 crash. The location of the buffer is application dependent but is typically
 heap allocated.
 (CVE-2021-3711)
 [Matt Caswell]

  *) Fixed various read buffer overruns processing ASN.1 strings

 ASN.1 strings are represented internally within OpenSSL as an ASN1_STRING
 structure which contains a buffer holding the string data and a field
holding
 the buffer length. This contrasts with normal C strings which are
repesented as
 a buffer for the string data which is terminated with a NUL (0) byte.

 Although not a strict requirement, ASN.1 strings that are parsed using
OpenSSL's
 own "d2i" functions (and other similar parsing functions) as well as any
string
 whose value has been set with the ASN1_STRING_set() function will
additionally
 NUL terminate the byte array in the ASN1_STRING structure.

 However, it is possible for applications to directly construct valid
ASN1_STRING
 structures which do not NUL terminate the byte array by directly setting
the
 "data" and "length" fields in the ASN1_STRING array. This can also happen
by
 using the ASN1_STRING_set0() function.

 Numerous OpenSSL functions that print ASN.1 data have been found to assume
that
 the ASN1_STRING byte array will be NUL terminated, even though this is not
 guaranteed for strings that have been directly constructed. Where an
application
 requests an ASN.1 structure to be printed, and where that ASN.1 structure
 contains ASN1_STRINGs that have been directly constructed by the
application
 without NUL terminating the "data" field, then a read buffer overrun can
occur.

 The same thing can also occur during name constraints processing of
certificates
 (for example if a certificate has been directly constructed by the
application
 instead of loading it via the OpenSSL parsing functions, and the
certificate
 contains non NUL terminated ASN1_STRING structures). It can also occur in
the
 X509_get1_email(), X509_REQ_get1_email() and X509_get1_ocsp() functions.

 If a malicious actor can cause an application to directly construct an
 ASN1_STRING and then process it through one of the affected OpenSSL
functions
 then this issue could be hit. This might result in a crash (causing a
Denial of
 Service attack). It could also result in the disclosure of private memory
 contents (such as private keys, or sensitive plaintext).
 (CVE-2021-3712)

I thought runc was fixed to produce ENOSYS by now for unknown syscalls
to avoid that mess. We can't have every glibc update breaking containers
like this...

stack=0x7fc77e3d3000, stack_size=0x9000}, 88) = -1 EPERM (Operation not

The failure seems to come with libc6 2.34-0ubuntu2. In a fresh, non-
upgraded ubuntu:impish container we currently have libc6 2.33-0ubuntu9,
and I can install/remove jq without any failure. Upgrading libc6 (and
libc-bin) to version 2.34-0ubuntu2 immediately causes the Post-Invoke

Indeed, it will break whatever solutions to the original issue of

My use case - capturing from the global output monitor - has never had a
crackling issue, but is completely broken by the changes.

It's a difficult situation.

I should clarify: My broken use case is capturing from the global output
monitor while also capturing the screen, and having the audio be
synchronised like at capture time.

In some of my early tests the audio was not only un-synchronised, but
had other issues too (jolting, etc.), so it's possible even just
capturing from the audio monitor alone has issues, but i haven't
confirmed that.

I have tested this (if i have done it correctly, taken from
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Capture/Desktop for pulse acquisition,
using PipeWire), and besides a small audio missing at the start of the
recording of about one second and at the end of it (but that was maybe
caused to the ctrl-c to ffmpeg, I'm not sure about that), it looks
pretty much synchronized to me, using a microphone next to my mouse and
selecting text on the screen I can't really see any delay on it (on the
current implemented workaround, Kernel 5.11)

Mind you, I'm on a 0x1487 and not on a 0x15e3 host side controller (not
an "AMD Raven"), so maybe the behavior of the two controllers are
different from each other (or PipeWire is not causing the issue here).

Marco.

Dave, I am suspecting a bug with the X hardware driver. Can you please
describe the machine you are using. Plus produce the output of "lspci"
and "lsmod"?

[Bug 1943122] Re: Software update doesn't run autoremove so that update fails due to no disk space in /boot

2021-09-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1943122/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1943124] Re: Upgrade fails due to "text file busy"

2021-09-09 Thread David Kastrup
Some more info:

After the upgrade fails, there is no '/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-
linux-x86-64.so.2.dpkg-new' and there is no '/etc/ld.so.cache', meaning
that I need to run 'ldconfig' to get back a mostly working system.

With no '/etc/ld.so.cache' after the failure (even if you started with
one before calling 'apt'), I am not sure how likely it is that
'ldconfig' has been run too early.

Lubuntu impish daily install on
- dell [optiplex] 755 (c2d-e6850, 5gb, amd/ati radeon rv516/x1300/x1550)

on hotting enter; this box gets to Lubuntu plymouth screen & just
freezes.. The logo just stops twirling at a point. same effect as
prior comment (#11) but not a black screen.

a enter key fixes it still.

[Bug 1872492] Re: Setting in /etc/fonts/conf.avail/56-kubuntu-noto.conf causes Arimo font to be rendered weirdly in Firefox

2021-09-09 Thread Jani Jaakkola
I agree with Matteo Italia. Some of my users do use KDE desktop, but
setting global system wide fonts settings (wrong) for other Desktop
users is not the way to do KDE settings. If I just remove this file
completely, I think the system will just work better, even for KDE
users.

[Bug 1943144] [NEW] low performance when using Zoom client compared to linux-generic 5.4.0.x

2021-09-09 Thread Laurent CREPET
Public bug reported:

Hi,

Recently, I got kernel linux-generic-hwe-20.04 installed, so 5.11.0.x.
Not sure if I intended to, as I already tested when it was based on
5.8.x, but got the same issue... So, well, as many, I use Zoom client
(latest deb file downloaded from Zoom site) on the following laptop:

Manufacturer: Dell Inc.
Product Name: Latitude 7400
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8665U CPU @ 1.90GHz

With linux-generic-hwe-20.04 based on 5.8.x, I noticed a huge increase
of CPU used by Zoom (just looking at top), sometimes having 350% when
someones was sharing screen.

With linux-generic-hwe-20.04 based on 5.11. the CPU usage seems correct,
but the load average get doubled after a moment, and the system becomes
far less usable.

Going back to linux-kernel 5.4.0-84-generic, and performance is stable, even
without thinking about
changing the CPU governor to performance.

[Bug 1938582] Re: efitools does not build on RISC-V

2021-09-09 Thread Graham Inggs
There was no mention of this in the changelog:

+# Building 0.9.2 with parallel=8 failed.
 %:
-   dh $@
+   dh $@ --no-parallel

Why does this fail on riscv64 only? I'd prefer not to disable parallel
builds everywhere, so we could make this architecture specific, but if
there's some part of the build that's not parallel-safe, we can use
.NOTPARALLEL in the Makefile rather.

Has 0001-Enable-RISC-V-build.patch been sent upstream? Should it be?
Please consider using Debian DEP-3 patch headers [1], as it would make this
clear.

  Today I ran it via Software Updates, I was distracted and the Ubuntu

  in that way but a pop up appears (sorry for italian) alerting me that
  there is no space left in /boot to update the kernel and I should have
  type 'sudo apt autoremove' to fix the issue. Don't know if this is
  related about 4 kernels I have installed

[Bug 1943124] Re: Upgrade fails due to "text file busy"

2021-09-09 Thread Florian Weimer
To me, the clue is the ETXTBSY for ld-linux-x86-64.so.2.dpkg-new (with
the suffix). I can't quite see how this could become used without a
reference from /etc/ld.so.cache. And I think according to the ldconfig
heuristic, ld-linux-x86-64.so.2.dpkg-new is considered a newer version
than ld-linux-x86-64.so.2. (Maybe we should not apply this heuristic if
a file with the exact soname exists.)

[Bug 1942619] Re: WARNING: ... decide_link_settings+0x1ab/0x1d0 [amdgpu]

2021-09-09 Thread Kai Groner
I have booted and installed the mainline kernel. I don't have a recipe
to reproduce the problem, and sometimes weeks go by between occurrences.
I will follow up here when it happens again or check back in a few weeks
if it does not.

few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See

to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been

you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed-hirsute. In either case, without details of your
testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)

[Bug 1943032] Re: FFe: Sync devhelp 41~rc-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2021-09-09 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
I don't know much about how devhelp is being used - I see the package
provides both some tooling and a library. What I'd like to make sure of:
are there and backwards-compatibility breaking changes in this upload?
Is the library still libdevhelp-3-6 or was there an SONAME bump? Did you
perform a test build of the package in Ubuntu somewhere (if yes, could
you provide the build logs)?

Thanks!

[Bug 1927076] Re: IPv6 TCP in reuseport_bpf_cpu from ubuntu_kernel_selftests/net crash P8 node entei on 5.8 kernel (Oops: Exception in kernel mode, sig: 4 [#1])

2021-09-09 Thread Patricia Domingues
Po-Hsu Lin,
Thanks for the info.
I was able to reproduce the issue on other 2 Power8 servers, but just running
the `reuseport_bpf_cpu test` more than once (as you mentioned on comment#3).
I've tested this with focal-hwe (Linux thiel 5.11.0-27-generic) and hirsute
(5.11.0-31-generic).
steps:
1. Run the cpu-hotplug test; 2. Run the reuseport_bpf_cpu test; 3. re-run the
reuseport_bpf_cpu test.

```
thiel login:
[24669.414656] Oops: Exception in kernel mode, sig: 4 [#1]
[24669.414710] LE PAGE_SIZE=64K MMU=Hash SMP NR_CPUS=2048 NUMA PowerNV
```

```
gulpin login:
[277274.876010] Oops: Exception in kernel mode, sig: 4 [#1]
[277274.876235] LE PAGE_SIZE=64K MMU=Hash SMP NR_CPUS=2048 NUMA PowerNV
```

I've also tested this 2 servers above with the upstream kernel from
`https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.11.22/`
I put the `reuseport_bpf_cpu test` on 20x loop and did not hit the issue, so
I'd say we may have an issue with ubuntu-kernel.
all 20x the test reported a success and the server did not reboot.
```
send cpu 157, receive socket 157
send cpu 159, receive socket 159
SUCCESS
```

[Bug 1943152] [NEW] riscv64 packages are not published for impish

2021-09-09 Thread Alexandre Ghiti
Public bug reported:

As can be seen here:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/impish/+package/sasmodels-private-libs, the
packages for riscv64 (and other architectures too) are not published for
impish.

Attached debdiff adds only a new entry in the changelog to trigger a
rebuild.

If additional info are required please advise (and tell me how to
retrieve it). I tried the command ubuntu-bug update-manager but it
requires me to open a new bug

[Bug 1879968] Re: Copy/paste still sometimes fails in LibreOffice and Wine apps

2021-09-09 Thread Chris Nadovich
Gosh, @vanvugt, I run 20.04, everything up to date, and this bug still
seems present. I wonder why people thought it was fixed. Could the fix
still not be pushed out to the repos?

[Bug 1943077] Re: snapd fails to autopkgtest on mksquashfs, which is looking for libgcc_s

2021-09-09 Thread Dan Bungert
Retesting with snapd 2.52+git658.g005f554-dirty (13328), mksquashfs is
able to work as expected. I believe that when we are able to
autopkgtest against a snap with that fix, that this problem will be
resolved.
