Yes, it ends after discovering wifi network(s) and successful end of
dhclient. If there is no know network, it will end very fast. It's not
'classic' daemon where program stays in background and waits for change.

[Bug 38425] Re: Today's update blocked my screen

2006-10-15 Thread gerard
Hi Andrew, Thx for your concern

First of all, you have to know that I did not find this bug report any
more in the past, so I opened 2 more (sorry) which are more updated than
this one.

To answer your questions:

1- I cannot even switch to a console
2- My PC is a laptop Toshiba M70-168
Processor: Intel M40 1.7 GHz
HD: SATA 80 GB
RAM: 512
it is not in the list https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam
3-What's the bug number for the mouse and keyboard session bug: how can I get
that, every thing is frozen at that point, just pressing power button is
possible
4- I use my laptop on the only possible latest version which is Dapper
2.6.15.20.386, but normally I use 2 other tower PC, one on the latest Edgy and
the other one on official updated Dapper and all is fine, The Tosh only is a Pb.

To summarize and update the situation:
2.6.15.25.386: mouse and keyboard frozen at ID session, after splash
2.6.15.27.386: even worse kernel panic from the very beginning

I already made some screeshots of the problem on bugs 47636 and 47489

Please also see the last answer I did to Ben Collins (bug # 47489)
2006-09-29, but no reply yet:

Hi Ben, my bug is close to #45636 except I cannot even switch to a
console

Today's update (29-09-2006): I just upgraded to 2.6.15.27.386 and ...
stil the same mess

I start splash and then kernel panic (which I did not have anymore on
2.6.15.25, it was only everything frozen at ID session).

In order to help you, I attached a photo of the last page displayed. Thx
for your help

[IMG]http://i9.tinypic.com/2u5rib4.jpg[/IMG]

That's all I can say Andrew regarding this never ending bug! Hope you'll
be active on this in order I can get through. Maybe the evolution
between 2.6.15.25.386 and 2.6.15.27.386 could help

Have a nice day Andrew

[Bug 66210] Integrated SoundMAX AD1980 occasionally gets index 0

2006-10-15 Thread Juho Lehto
Public bug reported:

I have Asus K8V Deluxe motherboard with integrated SoundMAX AD1980
soundcard, I have disabled it from BIOS and instead use Audigy 2 ZS. I
downloaded Kubuntu 6.10 Beta a while back and I have a problem with it.

Kubuntu 6.10 seems to recognize the integrated AD1980 chip as VIA 8237,
but the real problem is that often the VIA 8237 is primary sound card
and I cannot get any sound out of my Audigy. I haven't found any other
solution to this problem but reboot until Audigy is again the default
sound card. It seems like it is totally random which audio device is the
primary sound card on boot. Whether the integrated audio is disabled or
enabled in BIOS does not affect this problem.

I can say that this bug did not exist in Ubuntu 6.06, but unfortunately
I haven't tried Ubuntu 6.10 or Kubuntu 6.06. I guess I can try both of
them if it is really necessary, but I'd like to avoid that work if I
just can. ;) Thanks.

[Bug 66210] Re: Integrated SoundMAX AD1980 occasionally gets index 0

2006-10-15 Thread Juho Lehto
** Description changed:

- I can say that this bug did not exist in Ubuntu 6.06, but unfortunately
- I haven't tried Ubuntu 6.10 or Kubuntu 6.06. I guess I can try both of
- them if it is really necessary, but I'd like to avoid that work if I
- just can. ;) Thanks.
+ My Kubuntu 6.10 installation is a clean install, not an upgrade from
+ 6.06. Just now I had to reboot three times to get my Audigy working,
+ it's a bit annoying all right. :) I can say that this bug did not exist
+ in Ubuntu 6.06, but unfortunately I haven't tried Ubuntu 6.10 or Kubuntu
+ 6.06. I guess I can try both of them if it is really necessary, but I'd
+ like to avoid that work if I just can. ;) Thanks.

[Bug 66205] Re: UVFe for scim-bridge from 0.2.7 to 0.4.6

2006-10-15 Thread Reinhard Tartler
The changes look a bit too big for this point of edgy's development. apt
does not reveal any reverse depends. ZengPeng, could you perhaps give us
some sort of risk analyses? This package seems to be to provide a
dynamic library, which is loaded by other apps.

Honestly, I have no idea about scim. Currently, I have the impression
that this update has the potential to break in a lot of situations. Do
you have arguments to weaken this impressions, like, how much testing
your updated package has received?

[Bug 66217] The function X11_KeyToUnicode is missing in libsdl in Edgy ( dapper ok)

2006-10-15 Thread philippe-c
Public bug reported:

This function is used by game build on SDL library in order to transform input
of the keyboard into Unicode characters.
There is a risk that a lot of game build on SDL does not work with Edgy.
For instance all the games based on Torque will not work with edgy :
http://www.garagegames.com/

This function has been removed in the current package libsdl 1.2(
1.2.10.3) .provided with edgy ( it works with dapper).

For your information a patch has been provided with libsdl1.2 (1.2.11-3), have
a look on :
http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/libs/libsdl1.2/libsdl1.2_1.2.11-3/changelog

Warning : all the libraries linked to libsdl should be updated in the
same way.

How to reproduce :
1/ download the demo of torque available at :
http://demos.garagegames.com/tge/TorqueGameEngineDemo-1.4.2-RC1.bin

2/ install it , launch in a console window :
TorqueGameEngineDemo-1.4.2-RC1.bin

3/ follow the installation procedure : click on next

4/ go to the installation directory and launch : demo.bin

You get the folowing errors message :
demo.bin: symbol lookup error: demo.bin: undefined symbol: X11_KeyToUnicode

This package is for guys wanna use scim, maybe say alternate. In
ubuntu, we now use scim-gtk-immodule and scim-qtimm as immodule for
scim, but because of the C++ ABI issue, they have some problems, such

[Bug 66221] no wxwidget interface

2006-10-15 Thread Mildred
Public bug reported:

After updating my edgy system, I have a problem with the wxwidgets
interface to VLC.

Instead, I have a skinned interface (skin2). It was unusable until I
removed my ~/.vlc folder.

Since the preferences window uses the wx interface, there is no way to
configure VLC.

I have the following error message on the terminal:

[0288] main dialogs provider error: no dialogs provider module matched any
[0285] skins2 interface error: no suitable dialogs provider found (hint:
compile the wxWidgets plugin, and make sure it is loaded properly)

[Bug 31792] Re: Feature: Add the ability to include all conversation in specific channels in the notification bubble.

2006-10-15 Thread Sebastien Bacher
upstream rejected the request with that comment:

I don't think this is really worthwhile. I'd like to keep the notifications
stuff simple -- if you want to keep track of a channel, look at the window :)

doing the same with the distribution task, we are not likely to
implement features against upstream

[Bug 66118] Re: Printer settings in systemsettings/kcontrol don't work any more (Connect to CUPS faild)

2006-10-15 Thread da1l6
Sorry but this did not help.

Did
rm -r ~/.kde/share/apps/kdeprint/*
rm ~/.kde/share/config/kdeprintrc
but it had had no effect, neither on edgy nor on dapper :( .

Note that the tested edgy installation was done using Knot 3 alternate
and updated since.

[Bug 58489] Re: Does not boot on HP dc7600 USDT (regression from dapper)

2006-10-15 Thread Ante Karamatić
I can confirm this. I managed to get a workaround by disabling VT
(virtual technology) in BIOS. Message still exsist, so I don't think
'not booting' is releated to that message.

This happens to me only with Xen kernel.

Some upstream toughts:
