[Bug 97315] Re: [feisty] network-manager chooses wrong cable network

2007-03-30 Thread Michael Kofler
as was to expect, the same problems also appear in the installed system;
to make the matter worse, NetworkManager seems to be unable to remember
which interface is manually set; each time I restart the computer, again
the wrong USB interface is choosen and I have no network access until I
manually choose the right interface

NetworkManager should send DHCP requests on all cable network and choose
an interface which responds!

Ok, regarding my last post i have now fixed it by blacklisting intel_agp
and adding irqpoll to the boot line, and fiddling with the JMicron and
ICH8 settings in the bios.

[Bug 95241] Re: firefox - the connection was reset - Fiesty

2007-03-30 Thread Zafster
I just tried Allan's suggestion and changed the user-agent string in
Windows firefox to the Linux firefox user-agent string which replicated
the problem. Changing the user-agent string in Linux firefox to Windows
firefox user-agent string fixed the problem which means that the problem
is the proxy-server itself.

I then played around with the user-agent string and this may seem
strange but whenever I had the ist string combination in the (for
example Ubuntu-feisty) the proxy server would fail. I inserted ist
into ubuntu-edgy and internet explorer user-agent strings and I get the
same error.

[Bug 98896] Core dump when setting up new user.

2007-03-30 Thread Holger Berndt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: aqbanking16-qt-wizard

When I try to set up a new user with the AqBanking QT Wizard, it dumps core.
The bahavior is repeatable. Steps for me to reproduce:
Start the wizard
User - New user
HBCI backend
Setup PIN/TAN
Enter bank and user information (tried with two different banks, both show the
same behavior)
When I click next on the dialog that tells me it will now fetch the SSL
certificate, the UI freezes for a few seconds and then crashes.

Behavior is the same no matter whether I start the wizard from the command line
or from GnuCash.
This is on a up-to-date Ubuntu Feisty.

2007-03-30 Thread apjaworski
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 84964 ***

Gabriel,

Thanks for your message.

Indeed it seems like a separate problem with SATA drives. It looks like the
previous fix fixed the Asus boards but not the Abit obes (Abit AB9 pro to be
exact).

I just downloaded the current build of 7.04 beat dated March 29. I got the
same errors as the ones I described in my previous mail.

I looked inside my machine and I noticed that none of my drives are hooked
to the JMicron JMB363 controller. I have three SATA drives: one CD/DVD ROM
and two 160GB disks. They all sit on the Intel ICH8R controller.
Apparently the CD drive works fine and the hard drives do not.

The Abit pro board has the total of 9 SATA connectors. Six of them are
ICH8R, two JMicron and one Silicon Image. I suppose I can connect the hard
drives to the JMicron controller and see what happens but the stuff should
work for the Intel controller anyway.

Andy

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 84964 ***

The description of this problem seems somewhat different from that of
bug #84964 ie the machine is bootable, but doesn't properly recognise
the SATA drive.

Does the newest daily fix the problem? If not, I'm going to unmark this
as a duplicate of bug #84964, and instead mark it as a duplicate of bug
#95383, which seems to be almost identical, and also doesn't seem to
have been fixed by 2.6.20.13

Re: [Bug 95977] Re: Orca install error when upgrading to Fiesty

2007-03-30 Thread Beth Koenig
Yes, I had the latest updates. It may have been a freak thing. I did
the standard upgrade from 6.10 to Feisty using the command line and
then that brought up the update thing with the upgrade button that I
clicked on. It was using the us repositories.
I fixed it by uninstalling orca and gnopericus. Then I ran the apt-get
build-dep gnome-orca. Then I installed orca again.
It should be noted that the version of Orca I was using before the
upgrade was a newer build. The main reason I am worried about this is
that other people may not be as able as me at trouble shooting and
running the latest version of Orca is important as it fixes bugs in
earlier versions. The computer is now happily running 2.18 and I will
be installing 2.19 on it soon.

[Bug 95533] Re: Ubuntu 7.04 amd64 beta halts when booting the live cd

2007-03-30 Thread Thomas Hotz
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. There was an issue with the Feisty Beta CD and certain SATA
controllers. Please try a daily CD image from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/
and let us know if that resolves your issue. Thanks in advance.

Re: [Bug 71560] Re: Crash information collection depletes resources, clogs up and crashes system

2007-03-30 Thread Asheesh Laroia
On Fri, 30 Mar 2007, Martin Pitt wrote:

Asheesh, that would be possible, but the mere process of grabbing,
compressing, and writing a huge core dump on a machine with little
memory and/or slow CPU is a pain.

Maybe don't compress it, but write it raw to disk, and compress it at send
time, at the rate of the network connection (therefore it won't be a CPU
hog).

Alternately you could use LZOP compression at any time (even before send)
if you wanted; it's extremely fast and probably would give you adequate
compression ratios for these sorts of data. Does apport use gzip or bzip2
now? If so, LZOP would be a huge CPU time savings.

It is not fully decided yet whether we retain automatic crash
detection/reporting in the final release, but if we do, then we should
rather err on the side of not making the user even more angry after a
 crash.

I understand that.

I'm a big proponent of crash reporting, I just want it to work as well as
it can! (-:

It looks like the retracing has been a help to Ubuntu developers, and I'm
all for that.

[Bug 98889] Re: cupsys gets killed when adding a printer

2007-03-30 Thread drunken-wallaby
Hi Martin. Thanks for dealing with this bug: These are the steps I have
done to provide error_log:

$ sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys status
Status of Common Unix Printing System: cupsd is not running.

Then I cleared /var/log/cups/error_log

$ sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys start
 * Starting Common Unix Printing System: cupsd [ OK ]
$ sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys status
Status of Common Unix Printing System: cupsd is running.

Then I went to http://localhost:631 which was ok.
$ sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys status
Status of Common Unix Printing System: cupsd is running.

Then I clicked on add printer (Drucker hinzufügen) and all I got was a white
page. When I look at the cupsys status I get:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/cupsys status
Status of Common Unix Printing System: cupsd is not running but
/var/run/cups/cupsd.pid exists.

I really hope that helps, If you need more information, I'll provide it.

[Bug 96402] Re: powernowd doesn't start any process

2007-03-30 Thread Wizo
I correctly switch to acpi_cpufreq module, but problems remain the same. I give
here a list of behaviour of each governor:
performance - put frequency to 1.73 GHz
powersave - put frequency to 800 MHz
ondemand - put frequency to 1.73 GHz
conservative - put frequency to 1.73 GHz
userspace - leave same frequency of the previous governor

I've also noted that I have the problem of 798 MHz of bug #97042 with
speedstep_centrino module. Loading of acpi_cpufreq solve the problem.

I've attached the output for: cpufreq directory, lsmod, lspci -vv, lspci

I'm sorry, that should have been

Prior to 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.7, I had 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7.6 installed (upgraded
on March, 13th).

That happens when one copy'n'pastes to often...

So far, I haven't encountered the distortion when 1.1.1+ubuntu2-7 from
Dapper/main is installed. I'll keep an ear open when listening mp3s with
Amarok in the next time (I unfortunately hadn't sufficient spare time to
do so in the last days to be sure enough), using the downgraded libxine-

running: sudo ifup ra0 gave me:

[Bug 98903] Excessive **Message: Drive debug output in ~/.xsession-errors

2007-03-30 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description of the problem:
When a folder is opened in nautilus some debugging output is written. This can
start to overwhelm ~/.xsession-errors .

Steps to reproduce:
1. Log in to GNOME.
2. Start a gnome-terminal .
3. Type
nautilus -q nautilus
4. When the nautilus window with your home directory appears double click on
the Desktop folder.

Expected results:
Possibly nothing, possibly minimal debugging output indicating the name of the
process, pid and the output. e.g.
** (nautilus:7632): Initializing gnome-mount extension

Actual results:
Initializing gnome-mount extension
** Message: drive = 0
** Message: volume = 0
** Message: drive = 0
** Message: volume = 0
** Message: drive = 0
** Message: volume = 0
(the messages are repeated over 20 times)

Additional information:
I thought that these messages would disappear when Feisty went into Beta as a
debugging switch was flicked off so that's why I have held off reporting this
until now.

[Bug 98902] suspend no longer works, but did previously

2007-03-30 Thread Andrew Henry
Public bug reported:

HP Pavilion dv9297ea with Feisty beta.

I had previously installed Herd 5 and suspend and resume both worked.
On wake, I got a crash report, but it was minor...the actual function
worked. Wifi even worked after waking.

I clean installed Feisty beta and neither suspend nor hibernate work any
more. On wake, the screen is blank on all tty's and keyboard input
seems to have no effect.

I can see that this bug has previously been reported in edgy, and I have
added a comment to that bug, but just in case edgy bugs are no longer
given priority, I will open a new one here for Feisty.

The patch looks like it solves the problem, although you probably only
want one test for (DisplayWidthMM(dpy,i) 1).

Thanks!

[Bug 96286] Re: samba didn't install on edubuntu upgrade from 610 to 704beta

2007-03-30 Thread Tollef Fog Heen
To save anybody else the work of going through logs in foreign languages
(Portuguese?), it seems this is caused by netbase being upgraded before
samba and the samba postrm calls update-inetd which is now in its own
package.

An alternative would be to work around this in update-manager.

[Bug 98904] install in 1280x1024

2007-03-30 Thread Stephane Chaudy
Public bug reported:

When i install feisty, the installer found my video card very well but it
creates a xorg.conf with display modes in 1280x1024.
The resolution of my screen is 1024 so i had a error and i can't use my
computer.

I am not a real newbie so i open a terminal (ALT+F2) and i remove the 1280x1024
mode in the file xorg.conf.
It's OK now but i think that if my wife was alone during the installation, she
can't resolve the problem

[Bug 98907] [apport] compiz.real crashed with SIGSEGV in eventLoop()

2007-03-30 Thread Ge-org Brohammer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

I tried to administer Compiz with the Gnome GL utility that i installed
extra. My desktop kept flashing for about a minute and then Compiz
refused to start. Even after I reinstalled compiz, it refuses to start
even without the Gnome GL when i only use the ubuntu Destop effects
utility. It broke something permenantly. I'm running a self compiled
version of the latest Nvidia driver.
