[Bug 106434] Re: 2.6.20-15-generic breaks X when using NVIDIA-glx drivers (manual install)

2007-04-24 Thread daimoni
It seems that nvidia_new loads, thanks for that.

I guess i'll report that paravirtualization problem for Nvidia.
Little googling revealed that others have faced this too (ieg.
Paravirtualization has GPL-symbol and Nvidia driver fails to build).

However, I think this should be noted somewhere since if someone tries to build
Nvidia's vanilla drivers, they need to patch kernel, or at least
change the config parameter to N before it builds.

And I thought Linus was against this kind of GPL-patches :-)

2007-04-24 Thread siti
I can't test it because I am using my fixed version...

You will not reproduce the bug unless you have at least one account
(most people do :P). The reason is because a dialog box pops up when
you have no accounts...

[Bug 68764] Re: dapper - edgy upgrade breaks on python-clearsilver and python-pythoncard packages

2007-04-24 Thread Bobby
I was two releases behind, so I did an upgrade from dapper to edgy,
which appeared to go flawlessly. Then I did an upgrade from edgy to
feisty, which broke as listed above, except that I only have python-
pythoncard installed (not python-clearsilver) and the target version is
0.8.1-3ubuntu1, not 0.8.1-3ubuntu1.

I can provide my full logs upon request. Does anyone have a solution
for this yet?

Er, forget the nonsensical comment about the target version.

[Bug 109519] Automatic mounting of SMB share does not reliably occur on boot

2007-04-24 Thread Kirk Bridger
Public bug reported:

After booting with an up to date Feisty installation, one of my samba
shares are not automatically mounted, even though it appears in

shares in fstab and the first one mounts all the time, the second never.

That was applied on the latest linux-source from Feisty, so the Ubuntu

[Bug 108522] LiveCD

2007-04-24 Thread Vasile Tomoiaga
Yes, it turns out that it is a LiveCD, except that it doesn't want to
live :). I boot from it and it gives me the following message:

I saw that others experienced same problems
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=292533, upgrade from 6.06 to

more?) try to install 7.04, and because it is not possbile directly from
CD, and the upgrade from 6.10 to 7.04 from the CD messed up my system
(see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-app-
install/+bug/109382), I tried yesterday (23 Apr) to upgrade from the
internet, after reinstalling 6.10 (the 6.10 LiveCD works fine, no tty
bug at all). Today (24 Apr) I left the computer (went to job) applying
the upgrades, after successfully downloaded distribution upgrade
packages. So I am curious in the evening what surprise waits me :)

[Bug 106434] Re: 2.6.20-15-generic breaks X when using NVIDIA-glx drivers (manual install)

2007-04-24 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
daimoni:
Hmm. I am seeing not similar behaviour in another bug. Could you attach:
/etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video
please?

Re GPL patches:
It's not quite as clear cut as that. The GPL-only patches were introduced years
ago to help discourage people from (accidentally or otherwise) abusing kernel
interfaces which would then create derivative kernel modules. Linus isn't
anti-GPL but nor does he want to ban modules that aren't derived from Linux
(see http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/475654/focus=475824 ). I
suspect that in later updates the NVIDIA driver will stop using those
interfaces (so this is something that NVIDIA will fix) because the nvidia
drivers distributed by Ubuntu seemingly do not have this problem.

Since you are retrieving the drivers from NVIDIA, I think there's an
strong argument saying that NVIDIA should have had a note about this -
after all you downloaded the driver from them and there's nothing Ubuntu
can do to stop you downloading any other arbitrary driver and then
running into problems compiling it. You're free to do what you like with
your system but doing certain things will change who and where you can
get support/help from...

[Bug 94373] Re: Intel_hda alsa/realtek codec feisty no volume

2007-04-24 Thread KamiKasi
I've got a very similar problem with my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi1526.

The soundcard is Intel-hda with Realtek ALC880.

On Edgy I have the problem that speakers and headphonejack were switched (see
BUG 71737).
Now after upgrading to feisty there was no sound at all.

After adding mode=3stack to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base sound works, but
only with the headphone jack - the speakers are dead!

I want to try out different modes today (5stack, w810 etc.). But if you
got any other idea what could be wrong please let me know!

[Bug 109523] Evolution disconnects from exchange server when started

2007-04-24 Thread Pekka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

When I start evolution on login (it's in my startup menu) the window
opens and the first thing it does is disconnect from Exchange server.
The exchange server is the mmm.cern.ch microsoft exchange server. I have
to wait (few minutes) until it is done and then click on the connection
icon on the bottom left to reconnect. That then works.

If I don't wait and try to cancel the disconnection and reconnect it
doesn't. The only way out then is evolution --force-shutdown and
restart. Then evolution starts being already disconnected (judging from
the icon) and I can reconnect.

This is new with 2.10.1. Previously I had whichever version was
distributed with Edgy and I didn't get these problems.

[Bug 109197] Re: kde-guidance-powermanager: support conservative CPUFreq gouvernor

2007-04-24 Thread Luka Renko
I would agree that David's proposal is fine, so we would only redefine the
meaning of Dynamic to try the following modes (in this order):
- on AC: ondemand, conservative, userspace
- on battery: conservative, ondemand, userspace

I can work on this patch for Feisty+1 (probably in next day or two).

[Bug 108771] Re: Totem stops buffering and won't play a movie stream if the initial cache fill fails

2007-04-24 Thread Kjmph
I use Feisty Fawn. Totem version 2.18.1.

I believe the cache fill fails because the progress bar on the bottom
scrolls and stops before it hits 100% for the initial stream load. The
same thing occurs when the network stream is unable to keep up the
bitrate as fast as the movie progresses. IE: it pauses to recache the
stream during playback. However, when the movie has already started to
play subsequent pauses appropriately wait util the cache fills back up
and then continue. It almost appears as if the initial load has a
timeout on it.

I trigger the bug by loading a HD (480p) movie trailer off of Apple's
Quicktime movie trailer site. I don't always hit it, just sometimes.

Once again, mplayer doesn't exhibit this issue.

[Bug 85488] Re: Canon Lide25 (plustek backend) scanner does not scan via gui

2007-04-24 Thread Christian A. Reiter
good workaround. Ubuntu had more than two kernels in Dapper or Breezy if I
remember correctly - for i386, i586, k7, k8, so THAT should be not the problem.
But it doesn't solve the problem, neither helps it people who hava just a
laptop and want to attach a scanner to it.
Of course they could use the desktop kernel then...
It would be a workaround, good idea in my opinion.
And they could install both kernels, and start the one they need ;-)

[Bug 109526] resume from disk breaks sound and thinkad buttons on IBM thinkpad R40

2007-04-24 Thread sanktnelson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

I am running current feisty on an IBM thinkpad R40 (2722-B3g) and after
resuming from suspend to disk, sound and all special thinkpad buttons
(volume control, screen brightness, suspend, switch graphics output,
volume up/down, mute, thinklight) stop working, which is weird, because
all the buttons also worked completely without OS support. Suspend to
RAM works fine (until I do suspend-to-disk once, then the button is not
accepted anymore). Sound just doesn't play but all the devices and
mixers and so on still seem to be there, at least no application is
complaining.

There is another bug-report which mentions sound not working on a
thinkpad after resume, but I'm filing this as separate, since the
buttons are not mentioned there, so I'm not sure it's related.

Re: [Bug 109483] Re: Fiesty Fawn screen resolution bug at install

2007-04-24 Thread Chris
Hi,

I don't have it. I burned an ISO and installed ran the live CD from there.
After about an hour of mucking around I deleted the ISO and binned my Ubuntu
CD.

I am of the view that Ubuntu should work properly and it didn't. So now I
wait for Gutsy Gibbon and hope that this is sorted by then.

My system is:

AMD AthonXP 2500+
Nvidia GeForce 6600GT
Mainboard Asus A7N8X-E
Monitor Viewsonic 19 G90f+

As reported I was stuck with a maximum resolution of 800x600 and 60Hz. I
edited the Xorg to fix this, alt-ctrl-backspace but the changes didn't take
effect. The F4 at the begining didn't work either. I set the resolution to
1024x768.

This isn't the first time I have had this problem with Ubuntu. It was
present in Dapper too from memory.

Others are reporting similar problems.

I have ordered the Fiesty CD so I will try again then. I will hopefully
remember to save a copy of Xorg to submit.

All I know is that I was really annoyed at not being able to change screen
resolutions. Neither with the default Nvidia drivers nor with the installed
Nvidia drivers when trying to test the Beryl Cube. As I was running a live
CD I alt-ctrl-backspace but that didn't affect the resolution.

I tried to install Ubuntu but the install window was TOO large. So the
ok/next button was off screen. I later learned about Alt F7 and thought I
am not going to waste my time any further with this version of Ubuntu.

I frankly don't understand how such a bug can have made it undetected during
testing. The 6600GT is a popular card. Viewsonic are a popular monitor.
Nothing unique about the hardware. No reason for this not to work.

I hope you can fix this as it completely ruined my Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn
experience completely. My first impression of Fiesty Fawn is that it Failed
- the screen resolution doesn't work and the install window with the locked
in 800x600 max is too big.

Cheers.

[Bug 109315] Re: Writer crashes when opening Dictionary Wizard

2007-04-24 Thread Torstein Winterseth
as i said above, something went wrong. I never chose that it was th AMD
64 version and when I tried to change it to the 32 bit version it just
showed this message 'openoffice.org2' is a binary package. This bug has
been assigned to its source package 'openoffice.org2-amd64' instead.

Could any change it to 32 bit? :/
