I have the same problem; resetting the drive doesn't help. The problem occurs on Feisty with the latest updates on an Intel x86_64. I used multiple drives to test it, and the problem occurs with each drive, so it seems to be drive-independent. The problem just occurred, I don't know what caused it. The only thing that changed is that I updated some packages. I don't where the activity of the adept update manager is logged, if someone know how to find that, I can post which packages I updated before noticing the problem. I didn't make myself clear, when I wrote I build a custom kernel, what I did was that I built a custom kernel from the ubuntu kernel source with this patch applied, using the debian tools. Just upgraded to Feisty (from Dapper). In dapper I could connect using knetworkmanager, but not with wpa_supplicant directly. Now it is the other way around. When I boot, I get the KNetworkManager is connected pop-up, and it shows the wired connection icon (I do /not/ have a wired connection). When I click on the icon it says Wired Devices but doesn't list any, and no mention of Wireless at all. I can connect just fine on the command line: sudo wpa_supplicant -Dwext -iwlan0 -c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf sudo dhclient wlan0 (I just thought: could it be because I renamed the device wlan0 from eth1?)
