[Bug 118167] Re: dpkg-reconfigure for xserver-xorg fails to include critical option AddARGBGLXVisuals for nvidia driver

2007-06-01 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Thank you for your bug report.

John:
This setting is only needed by the NVIDIA binary drivers can could be
considered a workaround. If you enable the binary drivers using
restricted-manager as described on
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia then this option
will be added added to xorg.conf for you...

[Bug 117314] Re: latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems

2007-06-01 Thread Andrew Waldram
 Phillip Lougher

I can see your between a rock and a hard place ,

ICH6 appears to function correctly under either libata or PATA, Hence
the lack of bug reports (besides me) for this chipset.

I don't think it matters which way you go with this for this chipset as
I appear to be the only ICH6 person who noticed the drive renaming and
I'm not the screaming kind.

2 others noted the ghost cdrom for the fstab entries but dont think
that'd cause much fuss if you reverted back to libata.

What would be cool is actually knowing because if I'm staying PATA I'll
get hdparm out and ramp up my HD performance.

Also there appears a number of issues using UUID for swap , I came across it a
while ago UUID altering on swap over time.
I also see a number of reports in the forums of people stating their swap
changes UUID between boots.

Could it be the some hibernate methods clear the swap (ala mkswap) thus
generating new UUID's and leading to the resume issue on kernel
change.??

I wouldn't have seen this besides having changed my swap over to
physical drive number to keep my system functional across hibernations
(uswsusp) shortly after the introduction of UUID. Hence me noticing the
driver change (blank flashing cursor tends to focus attention)

[Bug 118191] 7.04 live CD errors on IBM Thinkpad T40

2007-06-01 Thread Gary Houston
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to install 7.04 on a laptop that's currently running a
previous version of Ubuntu. However the installer has been crashing at
different places, locking up the machine so that I can't examine the log
files.

During this boot from the live CD I have already had some problems,
before running the installer. A warning dialogue said that the Gnome
configuration daemon failed to start up, and likewise for a clock
applet.

The syslog seems to show errors reading from the CD. The CD self-test,
run on this machine, didn't find any problems. This is the second CD
I've tried.

I'll see if I can find a way to attach the complete log file, then I'll
try reinstalling the previous Ubuntu.

[Bug 111979] Re: Opera crash

2007-06-01 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
Thanks for your bug report. Opera is not a part of Ubuntus maintained
packages so I have to reject this bug which does of course not mean that
this might be annoying. Please check if there is a newer Opera version
around (ww.opera.com) and get in touch with Opera's own support as they
package Opera for Ubuntu.

If you feel at any time this is a bug caused by ubuntu you can of course
open this bug report again.

[Bug 26633] Re: Cannot move cross-filesystem symlinks to Trash

2007-06-01 Thread Haggai Eran
I suffer from a variant of this bug (more like #43237). I tried to
delete a folder from my desktop, and I got the error saying I cannot
move to a different filesystem. The difference is that my desktop and my
trash are on the same filesystem. However, I do have a chroot and my
home directory is also bind-mounted to there. the error I got mention
the chroot filesystem so I guess the bug is related to that.

Regards,
Haggai Eran

[Bug 104681] Re: Upgrade system fails in Feisty Beta

2007-06-01 Thread Luca Gambetti
Hi Jonathan,
now I cannot test again the upgrade problem, because the PC on which I found
the bug are already updated and in the meanwhile the final version has been
released, so I think that the bug can be closed.
Thanks,

[Bug 81137] Re: [Feisty] suspend and hibernate fail on MB Asrock K8NF6G-VSTA

2007-06-01 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Loïc:
I'm going to disagree with your well written comment and say that not trying to
force which kernel/OS is resumed to is dangerous. It doesn't matter if you
resume to a different OS - if ANY of the partitions mounted are shared between
OSes booting to a different OS to the one hibernated and mounting a common
partition can lead to severe data corruption! See Bug #3221 for my request for
this behaviour.

Re: [Bug 116929] Re: cannot adjust headset volume with keyboard or headset

2007-06-01 Thread Greg
I downloaded the file you pointed to me to and I patched things as
follows:

:~/control-center-2.18.1$ mv control-center_2.18.1-0ubuntu2.2.debdiff
/home/hornby/Desktop/
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/control-center-2.18.1$ patch -p1
~/Desktop/control-center_2.18.1-0ubuntu2.2.debdiff
patching file debian/changelog
patching file debian/patches/92_set_mixer_device.patch

Then I executed:
  debuild -b -us -uc
Actually, I did sudo debuild -b -us -uc and lots of stuff happened...

I logged out and logged back in and nothing seems to have changed.
I rebooted and logged back in and again, nothing seems to have changed.

[Bug 117314] Re: latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems

2007-06-01 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Lars:
Your comment links and forum checking are invaluable but can you ease up on the
bug comment cross-posting? Rather than posting in three different bugs
simultaneously confine the comment to this bug initially because if there is
something people disagree with in your comment they wind up having to reply on
all three bugs too...

(Please don't stop commenting in this bug though! I find your small
number of targeted forum links especially useful!)

Andrew:
It is probably worth spinning a new bug off about the swap/UUID problem. I've
now been told that the swap UUID can change
a) If you use uswsusp
b) If you install another Linux distribution (swap is often reformatted).

It might be possible to do something about a) by making it recreate the
swap with the same UUID as it had before. If you do spin off a new bug
can you include a link to it here?

[Bug 114940] Re: Firefox crashed after waking Dell 4100 from hibernate, wireless access in use

2007-06-01 Thread Hilario J. Montoliu \(hjmf\)
Thank you Scott Fraser for your report, and sorry for the late answer.

Does it still happening? If so, can you try to reproduce it in safe mode
(e.g. in a xterm type 'firefox -safe-mode') and describe the steps that
lead to the crash.

Also, which extensions/plugins do you have enabled?

Thank you.

+ I woke my laptop from hibernate. Firefox seemed to hang for a while - I
suspect my delicious plugin may have been syncing up. However, then I noticed
that after waking from sleep I had no IP connectivity over my wireless card.

So maybe the problem is that when you wake from hibernate and have lost
IP connectivity, and a Firefox extension (like the delicious addon)
tries to run its scripts, it can crash Firefox?

[Bug 82765] Re: Neomagic Corporation NM2200 - no sound

2007-06-01 Thread era
The kill command attempts to terminate any process which keeps a sound
device busy. If you get the kill usage error then it just means there
were no such processes.

(Perhaps better written with xargs so you can avoid the spurious error
message:

lsof -t /dev/dsp* /dev/snd/* 2/dev/null | xargs -r0 kill

... but I digress.)

The first modprobe attempts to unload any sound-related modules. If it
fails, the final modprobe will not be attempted.

(Better written witout a useless use of grep:

sudo modprobe -r $(lsmod | awk '/^snd/{print $1}') sudo modprobe snd-
cs4231

... but I digress again.)

The final modprobe apparently attempts to load the cs4231 driver instead
of whatever you had before (snd-nm256 I imagine). The snd-cs4231-lib
module is different from snd-cs4231 proper, and will presumably be
loaded by modprobe already if you have a top-level module which
depends on it (as apparently nm256 does, too).

If the command succeeded and sound still doesn't work, please say so
here. If it didn't succeed, maybe you could try to blacklist the snd-
nm256 module temporarily -- see http://bugs.debian.org/426166 for some
sort of instructions.

(I have no knowledge of the NM2200, I stumbled over this bug while
searching for something else.)

actually, the last celestia version is 1.4.1 works great for me, the current
release in MOTU repository (1.3.2) is no more maintained by celestia developers
team.
i had a little bug in 1.3.2 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/celestia/+bug/104375),
but it no more exist in 1.4.1, may be you should give the latest version
(http://www.shatters.net/celestia/download.html) a try.
i just wonder when the new version will be ported in the repositories, i found
that 1.3.2 remains even in gusty ! (http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/science/)

[Bug 118193] GDM refuses to restart after activating XDMCP

2007-06-01 Thread Mats
Public bug reported:

GDM refuses to restart after activating XDMCP with gdmsetup (and doing a
/etc/init.d/gdm restart within X...) . The X server starts as normal, but I end
up on a black screen with only the (gnome) mouse pointer available.
If I do a startx at console level, Gnome starts as normal.

Even if a do a complete reboot of the computer, the same problem occurs
(with the X server starting ending up with that black screen with only
mouse pointer available).

(I also manually changed Enable=false to Enable=true in the
/etc/gdm/gdm.conf, but nothing happens if I change it back to false)

[Bug 118199] UUID can change onswap breaking swap mount and Hibernation

2007-06-01 Thread Andrew Waldram
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

There appears to be a number of reported bugs that skirt round this issue
bug 103672 could be related

in a nutshell

normal linux maintenance activity can result in the UUID of the swap
partition altering this leads to various symptoms

such as

unable to enter hibernation (pc returns to password prompt)
unable to resume from hibernation
swap partition doesn't mount on boot
machine appears hung with flashing cursor

I have seen reports in the forum of swap UUID changing with reboots

The swap UUID can change
a) If you use uswsusp
b) If you install another Linux distribution (swap is often reformatted).
c) sharing swap windows/linux

It might be possible to do something about by making it recreate the
swap with the same UUID as it had before.

[Bug 117706] Re: Hard drives not recognized after kernel upgrade to 2.6.20-16-386.

2007-06-01 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
ricardisimo:
It's far from important but it would be helpful. My steps may be too
complicated and if so I will try and break them down into safer more manageable
units. The first and simplest test to do (which will not make any permanent
change that will last over a reboot) is the following:
Under 2.6.20-15-386:
1. Boot as usual.
2. Start a terminal.
3. sudo -s vold_id /dev/sdb1
This will tell us the UUID of that partition. Ensure you don't have any windows
or programs open that are using /media/storage then do this:
4. sudo umount /dev/sdb1 .
(this will try and unmount the storage device if nothing is using it. If you
get an error here just stop and don't go any further. No changes will have been
done)
5. sudo mount -U ID_FS_UUID found earlier
(this should add the storage device back. See if
ls /media/storage
shows what you are expecting)
6. Report what the result was back here. No permanent change will have been
made and no files should have been edited. Do not do any more than this
initially.

There's no need to uninstall the new kernel. Just leave it be for now.

[Bug 118201] [needs-packaging] Ogre 3D 1.4.1

2007-06-01 Thread Andrew Fenn
Public bug reported:

OGRE (Object-Oriented Graphics Rendering Engine) is a scene-oriented,
flexible 3D engine written in C++ designed to make it easier and more
intuitive for developers to produce applications utilising hardware-
accelerated 3D graphics. The class library abstracts all the details of
using the underlying system libraries like Direct3D and OpenGL and
provides an interface based on world objects and other intuitive
classes.

http://www.ogre3d.org

The latest version of Ogre which is 1.4.1 stable version needs to be
added to Gutsy.

Re: [Bug 102987] Re: scanner cannon lide 25 behaves strangely

2007-06-01 Thread Hans van Esdonk

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/85488

Yes, also other scanner programs show the same.
Sometimes after switching off and on or changing the USB port the
scanner works.
It goes wrong when the scanner has finished the job: the light source
doesn't return to the start position and then the scanner is not found.

[Bug 117314] Re: latest kernel(2.6.20-16.28) update gives boot problems

2007-06-01 Thread LarsBjerregaard
Phillip: Thanks very much for taking this on. I do find the wholesale
changeover in an otherwise routine kernel update mid-release slightly
discomforting though...
Sitsofe: Yes, I can ease up on the cross-posting. I know it's not normally good
form. However, in this case it's had the desired affect, and I see it's now
getting attention, so - no regrets ;-)

Hi Jérôme,

Actually, I wouldn't know, as I have switched to install nVidia drivers
via nVidia's own install packages. Sorry.

[Bug 118216] Network Manager trys to connect to WEP networks before WPA

2007-06-01 Thread Adam Challis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

When I boot my laptop, it requests the network password for the network
with the strongest signal that is WEP protected, ignoring the WPA
network for which the password is stored in the gnome-keyring.

I am running Feisty on a HP NX9030 laptop.
