[Bug 132359] Re: arrow keys don't work with CTRL-SHIFT anymore when compiz 'normal effects' are enabled in Gutsy

2007-08-15 Thread Grzegorz Galezowski
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 131913 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131913

I can confirm this - it's the same way on my laptop and affects anywhere
I can input text . I'm a programmer and this kind of functionality is
essential for me, so the lack of it with desktop effects turned on is
really annoying. If Gutsy really is going to be composite-by-default,
this kind of bugs cannot be left alone.

I attach a screencast where I try to use ctrl + shift +left/right in
various situations in gedit, which results only in cursor blinking.

Regards,
Grzegorz

[Bug 132192] Re: ubuntu installation on VAIO VGN-A617M -- Screen Blank

2007-08-15 Thread Salem
So I looked into more detail into the provided link (thanks it has been very
educational).
The one obvious potential solution is to set the HorizSync and VertRefresh
properly. Unfortunately I cannot find any information on those specs for my
computer screen.
The Sony Website is not really helping much in giving such detailed specs. I
fiddled around with several different combinations and resolutions to no avail.
I don't think this is necessarily an Ubuntu specific problem. It's probably
about configuring X11 for widescreen laptops (and sony XWGA+ display in
particular).

Best
Salem

[Bug 132613] Add Mupen64 to the repositories!

2007-08-15 Thread rhY
Public bug reported:

Mupen64 is a great FOSS Nintendo 64 emulator. It would be fantastic if
somebody would add this to the repos! I've been using getdeb.net for a
lot of stuff, but some stuff isn't on it, Mupen being one of them!
Also, there is a great open source graphics plugin that works better
than the default included plugins called Glide64 (which works in
OpenGL). Having those two easily addable to Ubuntu would make my life
as a tech support guy easier. Lots of gamers are starting to use
Ubuntu!

Thank You!

[Bug 132612] memory leak in evince?

2007-08-15 Thread Stephen Cradock
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I'm running Gutsy, all up to date, and finding evince very slow and
erratic with large (100s of pages, 30-50MB) PDF files.

Machine triple-boots Feisty/Gutsy/WinXP; HP Pavilion with 512 MB RAM,
Athlon 64 3200+ single processor.

In Feisty evince loads large PDFs fine, changes pages smoothly. System
Monitor shows evince process uses 50-100MB with a 50MB file open and
static; this bounces up by another 2 to 50 MB when I change to a new
page, but then drops back to the same level as before.

In Gutsy (2.6.22-9-generic kernel) same file loads more slowly, system
freezes for ages before recovering. System Monitor shows evince using
250 or more MB when the 50MB file is open and static, bouncing up to
350-400 MB when I change to another page. Then the memory usage stay
high (~100%) for much longer, probably until some is paged out to swap.
The effect is that the system has no (or very little) free user memory
most of the time, which makes it very hard to use ..

Acrobat reader in WinXP behaves much more like Feisty/evince, though the
% memory used rises slowly as more pages are added to the looked at
stack. It never jumps to anywhere near 100%.

Both Ubuntu installs use the same swap partition, 1.4 GB; both actually
use it, according to System Monitor.

[Bug 132611] Crash of installer when partitioning - dont_use filesystem

2007-08-15 Thread Kim Sullivan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I was installing Ubuntu 7.04 on my HP nx7300 notebook. I wanted to set
up partitions - the first, 5GB primary partition already contains
FreeDos. I plan on installing Vista later, so I tried to make a 20GB
partition (without formatting it), so I selected Don't use as a
filesystem (I wanted to place the ubuntu partitions after that). When I
clicked OK, the installer crashed - apparently it has problems with the
don_use file system.

I don't have any file in /var/log/installer, but I'll post the traceback
in a followup (can't cut'n'paste it now).

[Bug 132616] AMD/ATI SB600/700/800 use same SMBus controller devID

2007-08-15 Thread Shane Huang
Public bug reported:

We find that SB700 and SB800 use the same SMBus device ID as SB600, which is
0x4385, instead of the already submitted 0x4395.
We submitted an error SB700 SMBus patch in the bugzilla# 120361
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/120361

Please apply the attached new SMBus patch, which can remove the wrong applied
SB700 SMBus patch submitted before.

Besides removing the SB700 wrong patch, the attached patch add SB800 support to
kernel, by renaming the PCI_DEVICE_ID_ATI_IXP600_SMBUS into
PCI_DEVICE_ID_ATI_SBX00_SMBUS.

Would you please help to apply this new patch ASAP before the release of
Ubuntu 7.10? Because the error device ID 0x4395 will be used in SB800 SATA
controller.

I have sent this new patch to kernel.org([EMAIL PROTECTED]), I will send you
the upstream
commit after they apply it.

The patch is generated on the base of linux-2.6.23-rc3, so maybe you need do
some small backport to it when you apply it.

[Bug 67307] Re: EDGY RC, USB storage devices no longer mounted

2007-08-15 Thread kesomir
This bug is still around in Feisty (and the Tribe 4 Gutsy I tried).
Local machine users mount USB storage device sticks fine, LDAP users do
not. Sometimes the device will appear under computer:/// not mounted and
give a permissions error when double clicking, other times will not.

dmesg | grep usb :

[ 4330.314577] usb-storage: device found at 103
[ 4330.314581] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning
[ 4335.309419] usb-storage: device scan complete

Any work around for this? I have an entire primary school on feisty
without USB stick support atm - Fedora 7 doesn't have this problem.
Perhaps a udev rule?

[Bug 126425] Re: [Fixed] Intel driver (using EXA) crashes system when starting compiz

2007-08-15 Thread liminal
I tried the attached package and it does indeed work. Seems very
important to fix this issue properly, as I've heard claims that gutsy
wants to enable 3D effects by default. That's not going to happen if
movies can't play, which won't happen until EXA is smoothed out, which
won't happen until showstopper bugs like this one are fixed. Frankly
there doesn't seem to be enough time. Maybe next release.

[Bug 132621] Windows attached to panel instead of own title bar

2007-08-15 Thread Snowie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

I'm a noob, but from what i can gather, the 'windows' part of the gui seems to
fail to load correctly.
All new windows open cascading from the panel instead of in their own movable
window with title bar. When i looked for window display options and found them,
i got an error saying that something could not be loaded etc.
I'm sure a reinstall might fix this, but i have had 2 reinstalls allready for
other user error problems and im not looking forward to a third

[Bug 132622] Color palette corruption on Radeon 7200 All-In-Wonder

2007-08-15 Thread nkitagawa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

A recent update to xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:6.6.193-1ubuntu1) on Gutsy
appears to have caused color palette corruption on my Radeon 7200 All-
In-Wonder card. VESA driver works fine. Switching resolutions or
changing color depth does not have an effect, a la bug #35724.

color palette seems to be off. Browns appear green and the Ubuntu login

[Bug 132623] Add an udev-rule for the USB-IOWarrior devices

2007-08-15 Thread wayoda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

Applys to Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon

The kernel for the new release will be the first one that ships a driver
for the USB-IOWarrior (drivers/usb/misc/iowarrior).

Up until recently (Kernel = 2.6.21), users of these devices had to built the
driver
themselves and install a new udev.rules file with this content:

snip
# udev rules for iowarrior device nodes
KERNEL==iowarrior*,  NAME=usb/iowarrior%n, GROUP=users, MODE=666
snip

Could this rule be put somewhere in the /etc/udev/rules.d dir, so the
IOWarriors will show up in the location where long-time users (and their
applications) expect them (i.e. /dev/usb/iowarriorXX).

Thanks for caring

[Bug 91237] Re: java library not found

2007-08-15 Thread Jerry Chong
Looking inside /usr/bin/iriverter it seems that if we've just appended
:/usr/lib/jni after the -Djava.library.path= part it would work just
fine:

java

-classpath
$CLASSPATH:${prefix}/share/java/iriverter.jar:/usr/lib/java/swt.jar

[Bug 126425] Re: [Fixed] Intel driver (using EXA) crashes system when starting compiz

2007-08-15 Thread liminal
What I meant is that EXA isn't tested by many. Those who have report it
is slower, and there are some remaining bugs. Consider that newer intel
cards haven't been tested at all because of bugs like these. Anyways, I
suppose this is another thread of discussion. Sorry.

[Bug 131418] Re: Open Office Write styles do not work OK

2007-08-15 Thread :olli
Hello there,

I experience the same problem using NeoOffice 2.1 Patch 0 on MacOsX 10.4.10.
After reopening a writer file I inserted another Paragraph using the Numbering
(Bullets and Numbering). Instead of the concurrent number I get an 1.1 (2nd
level). The bad part is, that the button Restart Numbering, which is a
toggable one, should actually allow to switch back and forth between the
concurrent and a new Numbering. That doesn't work - The button shows no effect.

So in my Opinion this must be a Bug in the OpenOffice Package.

Are you going to commit a BugReport at OpenOffice.org?

Greetings
:oliver
