Maybe you're right, maybe not. Maybe it's not a bug. If it is a feature, it's a wrong one, I think. Is the tool intended to make the things easier? Suppose you're a teacher far from IT. [Bug 139070] Re: [Gutsy] Ralink 2573 usb adapter does not work out of the box
Hi, same strange problems here too with default module from gutsy : link can break between 5 minutes to 24 hours later... I made a quick script that test ping and rmmods and re insmod when ping fails. This works half the times and reconnects correctly (with dhclient, and ifconfig to set up the adapter). But half the time it doesn't make the trick : rmmod and insmod do not seem to be able to bring a correct interface. And often, a simple rmmod will freeze the entire computer. Unplugging the adapter (which is a USB wifi dongle) and replugging it will change the effect... so if I'm stuck with rmmod and insmod beiing useless but not freezing the computer, usualy unsticking and replugging the USB wifi dongle will give me chance to ... repair the connection or to freeze the computer. Finally, when I manage to get a connection for some period, it's quality is real bad : very very slow, pings grows up very quickly up to 2 seconds with one or two I do not know if this helps a lot. But I've tried Tim Gardner package (which is in comment number 16), and this is WORSE : ifconfig seems stuck in a endless loop : it slows the computer down and do not manage to get past the mounting of the device (ifconfig up), this is really bad as this is set at boot time. And in CCSM i configure settings how i want in my new profile. Or I also tryed there to change backend from "gconf configuration backend" to "flat file configuration backend" - same result, or on general options, general tab click on every "reset setting to default value", or in display settings - outputs - put your resolution, so people try and let me know. [Bug 163720] network-admin doesn't perform hostname data validation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools I was helping a beginner with his Feisty system. I kept getting a temporary file creation error from gpg regarding some bizarre URL when I tried to add a repo using apt-key. It took a while before I noticed the rather obvious problem - his hostname was a URL and gpg uses the hostname in the file name. [Bug 161122] Re: nm_applet prompts for password on startup
I'm the bloke who posted this bug, and it's now stopped happening, so either an update worked, or some of my fiddling around did. Here's what I think I did, but it's very possible that step 4 was all I needed to do, so maybe just try that first. One slight warning - doing this I've lost all the details about my wifi connection - signal strength etc. from the top right of the menu. I'm sure there are things I can download to give me that information, but it's not important to me so I haven't bothered. 1. Switched back to putting in my password and login at boot (ie went into System/Administration/Login window Security tab and I turned off enable automatic login and rebooted), then made sure all my updates were up to date in System/Administration/Update Manager). 2. In System/Administration/Network I went into the wireless connection and turned off "Enable Roaming Mode" and put in my wireless details - WEP key, SSID etc. 3. Rebooted and made sure wifi was still working. 4. Went back into System/Administration/Login window Security tab, turned back on enable automatic login, and clicked off the checkbox that says "Deny TCP connections to X-Server" Next time I booted it went straight in without prompting for anything. Hope this helps anyone else in the same boat. [Bug 163711] lost ubuntu managing adept packages
Public bug reported: This is more of an issue rather than a bug, In the process of managing packages on adept, I selected to install a package involving debian (I can't remember which exactly) that unintentionally uninstalled all other packages, all 2000 of them. I didn't mean to do that but my aim was to recover other lost debian packages like my system settings (kcm_displayconfig.la, kcm_colors.la, etc) that I had lost previously. The loss of those packages was causing issues with my internet connection and I was unable to use many settings because I had no .la library files. I have very little knowledge about dealing with ubuntu (I wiped it off my computer for example). Kubuntu is something a friend of mine installed for me while leaving my windows driver alone. He installed it on a seperate driver. So I want to know if there is a way to recover linux ( I still have the option to boot into a different version of ubuntu, but it stalls at a process saying waiting for root.) or shall I reinstall the whole thing from some cds? Also, if I have to reinstall linux from cd myself, where can I get the files? [Bug 163707] Re: gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg should link with system ffmpeg libraries (libavcodec, etc)
Ok, long story short after applying above patch and doing some source- foo I got it to build against system ffmpeg in Hardy and Gutsy pbuilder and tested playback of several media types with Totem Gstreamer with great success. However, the debdiff is a bit dirty and I seek guidance/review. Yes, it's 16K lines long, most of which are due to cruft from running autoreconf recursing into the bundled ffmpeg and generating spurious changes. Rest assured that debian/patches/24_use-system-ffmpeg.patch is nothing more than the small patch from upstream as linked in the original bug description plus a autoreconf run. I did the API migrations in debian/patches/25_ffmpeg-api-changes.patch so that we can regenerate #24 properly with less monstrosity later on. So, the TODO list left is: (1) Removal of bundled ffmpeg from sources? Should we repack the orig.tar.gz to remove the bundled ffmpeg as it's the cause of the huge debdiff and it's unnneded code. (2) Versioned ffmpeg build-deps? I have no idea what range of ffmpegs this API will be valid for, do we need to put a versioned dep or not? Currently I left them unversioned. (3) Additional testing? I've only tested playback of H.264+AAC, MPEG4-ASP(Xvid)+MP3 in totem-gstreamer. I don't feel satisfied with these test cases. How else can we test this package? #1 and #2 need to be addressed before uploading this anywhere, but I think #3 can be tested in Hardy repos since we still are very early in development and there's no apparent signs of mass breakage. ** Attachment added: "Preliminary debdiff against Hardy (test #1)" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/10464439/gst.debdiff -- gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg should link with system ffmpeg libraries (libavcodec, etc) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/163707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
