[Bug 129627] Re: [Gutsy tribe 3 x86_64] Enable or disable desktop effects make the system do not response (santa rosa)
Xiaoyang, I suggest we close this bug as it was fixed previously in Tribe 5. Then, we should open a new bug if we indeed find this bug in Hardy. [Bug 179358] software updaters don't warn if no repositories are enabled
Public bug reported: During system install, I disconnected from the internet so I could check things over first. This meant the updates repositories were disabled (see bug #154535 ). I decided to test as a naive user and just ran the graphical package update tool. This gave the message that the system was up to date. Afterwards I tried runing apt-get update/upgrade. This also appeared to worked without doing any update. The reason this all worked was that I had the install DVD in the drive and thus updates were run against that (and obviously there were no updates to do). For a new user this could be deceptive. At least the graphical (synaptic I guess) system updater should give a warning when the system is connected to the internet but no network package updates are allowed. apt-get should also print a warning though that's less important since users who know apt are more likely to know what is going. Since no servers are running by default I'm not declaring this a security vulnerability, though I could see situations (a beginner setting up their first web server) where it could lead to one. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- software updaters don't warn if no repositories are enabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/179358 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices
Robert North: Actually my USB ports are reporting as internal USB HUB ports in dmesg. And these internal USB HUB ports don't seem to work with autosuspend! I can only repeat what I said earlier: Screw it! Turn of autosuspend completely in Hardy as long as it is causing on any system!! It does not make no sense to look unpolished just for the few gains a minority of people has from that feature. Anybody who wants to conserve power will just unplug USB devices he is not using anyways If you still want to go on fixing this with blacklists , you can check which chipset I have in the many hardware information I have submitted already. I know it sucks, that you have to walk your way through this bug report to find the right bits and pieces and that is why I can't stop to rally for this bug/wishlist item: Bug #3382 It describes how HW information should be attached to ones launchpad profile, so one would not have to upload the same stuff to so many different bug reports over and over again. It also describes how the HW info could be gathered by a/the HWDB tool. And it describes how convenient it could be for devs/bugfixers to e.g. query for a list of all USB chipsets affected by this bug. Without that, I can't imagine tracking down HW bugs can be any fun! On Sun, 2007-12-30 at 01:49 +, Robert North wrote: The following link contains important documentation for users developers regarding this bug http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=blob;f=Documentation/usb/power-management.txt;h=b2fc4d4a99177be7bd48dce560d1f28417c60aa9;hb=HEAD This decsribes issues in the 2.6.24 kernel In short, so many USB devices don't autosuspend properly, that blacklisting them has been pushed to user-mode. By default in the new kernel, autosuspend is disabled for everything but USB hubs. Because they've left autosuspend enabled for USB hubs, and this may still be hitting some of us. [Bug 179267] Re: kpartx crash when executed on AMD64
Hello, I deleted the LUN mappings on the Storage controllers. Once that was done I then used kpartx to delete anything on those two drives. Once that was done I then tried with -av and the mappings got created without any problems. It seems that the information output should be improved on the kpartx tool to provide a more meaningful output in the event that the mappings have been created in the past.
