[Bug 129627] Re: [Gutsy tribe 3 x86_64] Enable or disable desktop effects make the system do not response (santa rosa)

2007-12-30 Thread Xiaoyang Yu

Xiaoyang, I suggest we close this bug as it was fixed previously in
Tribe 5. Then, we should open a new bug if we indeed find this bug in
Hardy. Also don't forget to cc the canonical-qa and the
intel-hardware-
certification groups for better visibility.

Yes this bug was fixed in Hardy Alhpa-2.

If I start Internet-VPNC connection Manager I get:

I recognized, that vpnc-disconnect doesn't work, too.
There is a IMHO a bug in this script because Id has to mean /var/run/vpnc.pid
(DOT) so the PID couldn't be found.

I start the nm-applet via /usr/lib/network-manager-vpnc/nm-vpnc-service
After choosing my VPNC Connection I get:

If your vpn concentrator admin still insists on using DES
use the --enable-1des option.

Would be realy nice If somebody would pay attention to this because I

gnome-btdownload (0.0.30-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * debian/control:
- Bumping Standards-Versions to 3.7.3. No changes needed.

[Bug 145218] Re: Open with - Other option should default to /usr/bin/

2007-12-30 Thread Nanley Chery
** Summary changed:

- firefox open with option ,the other option open in the wrong folder
+ Open with - Other option should default to /usr/bin/

** Description changed:

- After a right click on a file in a web page, the user is asked what firefox
should do with the file.
- in the open with box there is an option- other,
- if the user is clicking on that it will open the home folder.
-
- the home folder is the wrong folder because the user need to select
- apposition
-
- so it should open the bin folder or the apposition menu folder (?)
+ After downloading a file or subscribing to an RSS feed, the user is asked
what Firefox should do with the file (or in the case of the RSS feed, what to
subscribe with). In the Open with box there is an option, Other. If the
user clicks on this, Firefox will open the home folder by default.
+ The home folder is the wrong folder because the user needs to select
application; therefore, a default folder of /usr/bin/ would be more suitable.

[Bug 179358] software updaters don't warn if no repositories are enabled

2007-12-30 Thread mikedlr
Public bug reported:

During system install, I disconnected from the internet so I could check
things over first. This meant the updates repositories were disabled
(see bug #154535 ). I decided to test as a naive user and just ran the
graphical package update tool. This gave the message that the system
was up to date. Afterwards I tried runing apt-get update/upgrade. This
also appeared to worked without doing any update.

The reason this all worked was that I had the install DVD in the drive
and thus updates were run against that (and obviously there were no
updates to do).

For a new user this could be deceptive. At least the graphical
(synaptic I guess) system updater should give a warning when the system
is connected to the internet but no network package updates are allowed.
apt-get should also print a warning though that's less important since
users who know apt are more likely to know what is going.

Since no servers are running by default I'm not declaring this a
security vulnerability, though I could see situations (a beginner
setting up their first web server) where it could lead to one.

[Bug 162709] Re: yum can't load cElementTree module

2007-12-30 Thread Benjamin Mako Hill
Scott: Yum seems completely unsable on a default gutsy install. The
problem is that in Python 2.5, you must import from
xml.etree.cElementTree. While cElementTree is installed by default, it's
place in the Python path is different. We either need to make sure i can
be imported by default or we need to change scripts.

I'm going to try to fix Yum so that it works and will upload the patch
here.

[Bug 84007] Re: Cannot edit audio profiles without closing the list

2007-12-30 Thread Christian Niemeyer
The problem in Gutsy is, that you can't select pipelines in sound-juicer which
include xingmux.
They simply will not appear. This is the bug, I think. Though they are
available in gnome-audio-profiles-properties and active.

xingmux is pretty much needed to get correct metadata in VBR-mp3. The
only solution I found was switching to CBR-mp3 for a while.

Re: [Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2007-12-30 Thread Elias Humbolt
Robert North:

Actually my USB ports are reporting as internal USB HUB ports in dmesg.
And these internal USB HUB ports don't seem to work with autosuspend! I
can only repeat what I said earlier: Screw it! Turn of autosuspend
completely in Hardy as long as it is causing on any system!!

It does not make no sense to look unpolished just for the few gains a
minority of people has from that feature. Anybody who wants to conserve
power will just unplug USB devices he is not using anyways

If you still want to go on fixing this with blacklists , you can
check which chipset I have in the many hardware information I have
submitted already. I know it sucks, that you have to walk your way
through this bug report to find the right bits and pieces and that is
why I can't stop to rally for this bug/wishlist item: Bug #3382

It describes how HW information should be attached to ones launchpad
profile, so one would not have to upload the same stuff to so many
different bug reports over and over again.

It also describes how the HW info could be gathered by a/the HWDB tool.

And it describes how convenient it could be for devs/bugfixers to e.g.
query for a list of all USB chipsets affected by this bug.

Without that, I can't imagine tracking down HW bugs can be any fun!

On Sun, 2007-12-30 at 01:49 +, Robert North wrote:

This decsribes issues in the 2.6.24 kernel
In short, so many USB devices don't autosuspend properly, that blacklisting
them has been pushed to user-mode.
By default in the new kernel, autosuspend is disabled for everything but USB
 hubs.
Because they've left autosuspend enabled for USB hubs, and this may still be
 hitting some of us.
(Maybe that's what I've been seeing when running Hardy alpha2)

Details:
1) I'm running Feisty (Upgraded from Dapper to Edgy to Feisty)
2) Default installation of vsftpd with apt-get install vsftpd
3) The problem is related to /sbin/start-stop-daemon, not seeing the vsftpd

exact parameters from /etc/init.d/vsftpd directly)

[Bug 179267] Re: kpartx crash when executed on AMD64

2007-12-30 Thread James Lamb
Hello,

I deleted the LUN mappings on the Storage controllers. Once that was
done I then used kpartx to delete anything on those two drives. Once
that was done I then tried with -av and the mappings got created without
any problems. It seems that the information output should be improved on
the kpartx tool to provide a more meaningful output in the event that
the mappings have been created in the past.

Regards,

James

[Bug 139832] Re: [gutsy] rt61 wireless stops working after several minutes

2007-12-30 Thread NoWhereMan
@karamalz, could you please tell me which version of the windriver works
with this rt61? I've tried 4.1 from linksys and looked like it didn't

btw, it looks like now on my sistem both 2.6.22 and 2.6.24 have issues
with WPA (probably a different bug)! I can only connect using the
command line and using wpa_supplicant -B (background mode daemon);
otherwise wpa_supplicant sits there and no other commands can be issued;
maybe this is connected with why network-manager does not connect...

[Bug 144621] Re: iwl4965 drops out from time to time (Santa Rosa)

2007-12-30 Thread Andrew Gee
After installing Tim's package, I now get a flood on dmesg, as said by
Matteo.

However, when trying to compile the driver, as explained by ggepz, it
fails with many errors.

Is there a package I can install, which will work well?

Thanks

[Bug 137686] Re: [gutsy] [regression] (regression from edgy to feisty and to gutsy) tifm_sd module not working and not producing any message in logs

2007-12-30 Thread Id2ndR
I finally found a way to get it working every time :
- Insert a SD card
- run this command : $ sudo modprobe -r sdhci sleep 0.5 sudo rmmod
mmc_block || sleep 0.5  sudo modprobe sdhci

This command works whether tifm_7xx1 and tifm_core modules are loaded or not.
The idea is quite the same that Krzysztof Wyszyński's one.

I'll try it on linux 2.6.22

[Bug 178615] Re: Xubuntu LiveCD doesn't work

2007-12-30 Thread Nanday
Tried yesterday the alternate CD. It took ages to load, but it seemed to
work, until it reached the point where it tried to detect the PC
hardware. When it reached 75% (or so, I can't remember), it displayed
that it was checking for Floppy Drives, and it just frozed there. I
waited for more than half an hour, but it was dead.

The floppy drive is in working condition (I checked it under WinXP), but
it locked the installation progress.

I tried too some other distros (SuSe, Fedora, Knoppix, PcLinuxOS,
Mandriva, Damn Small Linux), all of them in LiveCD, and worked OK. I'm
really confused...

If I can provide any more info, please, update this bug report. :)

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / real trash on IMAP server

This 'fix' sounds like a workaround. Why would I want messages marked

If this behaviour is opt-in in other clients, Evolution should at least
make this behaviour opt-out.
