[Bug 121279] Re: Totem playback choppy with H264

2008-02-16 Thread Eugenia Loli-Queru
Please read here
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=494056
and the resolution of the bug here:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482660

I hope you release a patched version for Gutsy too, not just for Hardy,
because this bug is there for a long time now, and it affects playback
of one of the most popular codecs out there.

[Bug 192316] [NEW] Application launchers show incorrect icon when dragged and dropped from Add to Panel

2008-02-16 Thread Ryan Steele
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

When I drag and drop an item from the Application Launcher section of
the Add to Panel window, instead of showing the application's icon on
the new launcher, it shows a yellow diamond with a question mark on it.
When I hover my mouse over it, it shows (using the example of
Calculator):

(null)
Open '/usr/share/applications/gcalctool.desktop'

When you add the launcher using the Add button in the Add to Panel
window, the launcher is added correctly.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Right-click an empty space in the panel and select Add to Panel...
2. Click Application Launcher
3. Drag an application to the panel

Expected result: The application button displays in the panel with the
application's icon, and the name of the application in the tooltip

Actual result: A yellow diamond with a question mark in it is displayed
in the panel, and the tooltip displays (null)

[Bug 174403] Re: 7.10 /usr/lib/cups/backend/hal failed

2008-02-16 Thread Peter T Hayward
Exactly the same problem as mark above. My printers are Epson DX3800 and
Brother HL-1250. Both worked under Feisty. Under Gutsy they are detected and
set up. Try to print a test page and I get the error /usr/lib/cups/backend/hal
failed.
These printers work normally under SUSE 10.3 and MacOSX on the same computer so
this is down to Ubuntu software or its configuration.
As Mark says it works if I open up permissions on the usb devices but this is
not the full solution.
Printing is a core function, is this going to be addressed soon?

[Bug 41335] Re: DVD playing is not working correctly with totem-gstreamer

2008-02-16 Thread Sam Liddicott
Until totem-gstreamer has menus working, can we please NOT have it set
as the default, but use totem-xine instead.

I'm using Hardy and my children keep getting frustrated because totem-gstreamer
keeps getting installed with updates.
It's a load of crock and stops them watching their DVD's, please don't make
half-baked packages the default when there is another alternative that has
worked for years.

[Bug 189260] Re: Backlight doesn't turn on after resume

2008-02-16 Thread Matt Zimmerman
On Sat, Feb 16, 2008 at 04:29:16AM -, Jeffrey Baker wrote:
Sorry, I didn't realize that Incomplete should now be read as the

exists. That's obviously nonsense in the case where the bug is already
verified and fixed upstream, so I must have been mistaken.

You wrote in the upstream bug that the problem was fixed for you with only
an update to mesa, which would seem to imply that this doesn't need fixing
in the kernel (despite your comment in
https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/189260/comments/6).

That would have been a much more useful piece of information to post in this

If I were on the Ubuntu xorg package team, I would be interested in the
following commits from the mesa/drm master branch at
 git.freedesktop.org:

I will move this bug over to mesa so that the right folks see it now,

[Bug 192325] [NEW] [Hardy] dependecies are broken due to broken package

openoffice.org-hyphenation-en-us

could not be installed and:-
language-support-writing-en

package was reported to be broken, due to this problem all of the other
dependencies of the other packages have been compromised. For example,
now when you try and remove a kernel package it tells me that the
language support packages are also to be removed. And even more
strangely, this occurs when I try to install a package as well since
when I try and install the gambas2 package it tells me that the language

[Bug 192330] [NEW] [wish] extract multipart files zip archive

Ubuntu Gutsy gibbon 7.10 amd64
(I have installed p7zip p7zip-full rar unrar)
I tried to unzip multipart file archive (Fink.zip Fink.z01 Fink.z02 Fink.z03).

Right click - extract here and it outputs this error:

attempting to process anyway, assuming all parts have been concatenated
together in order. Expect errors and warnings...true multi-part support

file #2: bad zipfile offset (local header sig): 27969969
file #3: bad zipfile offset (lseek): 49012736

Then tried the command: 7za x Fink.zip
with this error:

7-Zip (A) 4.51 beta Copyright (c) 1999-2007 Igor Pavlov 2007-07-25
p7zip Version 4.51 (locale=en_US.UTF-8,Utf16=on,HugeFiles=on,2 CPUs)
Processing archive: Fink.zip

I even tried unrar / rar and they don't support the file. It looks like they
can't handle multipart zip files.
The multipart files were extracted successfully in a Windows environment, using

Yes, but e.g. autoconf-doc uses the FDL and is still list as non-free;

[Bug 138583] Re: [Gutsy] Kernel Oops after calling synce-serial-start

2008-02-16 Thread jcd
Hello Leann,

Just a small update to make things clear. The OOPS by itself doesn't
happen anymore on 2.6.24 (Hardy) because the following patch is applied
to the standard 2.6.24 kernel.

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=12918action=view

This patch could be applied right now to 2.6.22 (Gusty) and it would
prevent the OOPS reported above.

Then there is a second problem which is to make RNDIS USB devices work
with Linux. It is my understanding that at the moment neither 2.6.22 nor
2.6.24 would work with such devices. Since the synce patch (pointed
above) was not correct I proposed another one which should soon be
merged to linux kernel main tree. The actual proposal is here:

[Bug 132320] Re: Tracker consumes more then 90% of CPU even when indexing is disabled

2008-02-16 Thread Andrew Frank
i have a new installation with 8.04 hardy: same problem:
tracker consumes all cpu (despite saying it is in state 'sleeping').
this is after the system was sitting idle for a day, thus all available files
should have been indexed.

please fix, or make it at least not default setting: it is a huge
disappointment for somebody not knowledgeable installing ubuntu and find
it SO SLOW, only because of tracker (which is not terribly useful,
missing a more selective search function).

thank you for (otherwise) a nice system!

[Bug 192331] [NEW] keyrepeat problem

2008-02-16 Thread Adam Klobukowski
Public bug reported:

Distro: Hardy

During playing a Windows game (Half Life 2) with Wine, I ecountered following
problem. sometimes key
'stucks' in 'keyrepeat mode'. Ie. I press 'W' for forward, and I get 'W' in
keyrepeat (...). It is system-wide, so if I launch
xterm, I got WW..., if I switch console got WWW...
and so on, until I kill X. It is not limited to 'W', it is just most often key
I'm stuck with.

It is not hardware problem (tested).

I already discussed this problem on Wine bugzilla
(http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11589) but they rejected this
bug. MY next best guess is that the problem lies with Xserver.

I can't edit on the reference bug, so I put my comment here, still:

When I removed the lines it resolved the original issue.

However, I suspect this is not a valid workaround. I think you should be able
to still use these lines, because with them you can configure your touch pad.
I mean, by removing the lines the issue is resolved but you can no longer
configure your touch pad.

Am I right?

[Bug 92482] Re: NumLock gets enabled unexpectedly on my laptop

2008-02-16 Thread Enrique
I confirm what Naveen says about the numlockx behavior in my T42 with
ubuntu feisty. I found a not-so-elegant solution. If you go to System -
Preferences - Keyboard - Layouts - Keyboard model, I have a Generic
105-key (Intl) PC. Change that to IBM ThinkPad 560Z/600/600E/A22E, Intl.
Now this gets very tricky. Press Shift+NumLk then type numlockx toggle
(type this before Shift+NumLk in the terminal, otherwise the keys with
number won't work) and now your numlock keys work. Shift+NumLk again and
you recover the normal keyboar state but the led is still on. I tried
this several time and it not always work in the same way. Sometimes you
don't need the Shift+NumLk before the 'numlockx toggle' command... It is
still anoying.

Stephan : I hope you don't mind that I subscribed you. Is that merge
something you can do? Thank you for great work on gnucash.

i got the same gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV in
g_datalist_id_set_data_full() while playing a movie in totem and
pressing the volume-down button to adjust the volume, the settings
daemon crashed, and restarted. (the volume didn't go down as normal, so

[Bug 192295] Re: Clock have no time synchronization feature

2008-02-16 Thread albert
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Please answer these questions:
- How did you try to change the synchronization setting?

This option has been removed from the clock applet, but you can set it via the
menus. Open the System menu -- Administration -- Time and Date, press unlock,
and now you can configure synchronization.
Does this solve the problem?

[Bug 35638] Re: Printer is not detected properly over USB

2008-02-16 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
I have just tested with a Hardy Alpha and the usb backend problem is
still there (output string changes/disappears/reappears over time, can
be made to disappear on one terminal as mentioned in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/35638/comments/18
). However lpinfo -v now shows a hal backend and the hal backend seems
rock solid even when the usb backend is all over the place. There are
seemingly times when lpinfo -v will change the order that backends are
shown but the hal backend remained unwaveringly the same despite this.

[Bug 192350] [NEW] [Feature Freeze Exception] New upstream release

2008-02-16 Thread Jonathan Patrick Davies
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: semantik

Hello MOTU Release,

I am here to request permission to upload the lastest Semantik to
universe. The rationale being that as Kubuntu Hardy will be a KDE 4
based release - it'd be a good idea to have several KDE 4 apps at the
ready.

The last upload is the Qt4 version, now thanks to JB Giraudeau we have
the KDE 4 version ready.

Debian changelog:

semantik (0.6.5-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #181326).
  * Added kubuntu_01_configuration_fix.dpatch - fixed up build system for KDE4.
  * Added kubuntu_02_syntax_error_fix.dpatch - fixed syntax error in build
system.
  * Added kubuntu_03_header_fix.diff - fixed up included header files.
  * Added rules for dpatch and installation into /usr/lib/kde4/.

  [Jonathan Patrick Davies]
  * Updated Standards-Version to 3.7.3.
  * Added build dependencies on kdelibs5-dev and dpatch.

[Bug 192343] Re: New upstream release (1.1.5)

2008-02-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package ffmpegthumbnailer - 1.1.5-0ubuntu1

---
ffmpegthumbnailer (1.1.5-0ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #192343):
- support for large files (files larger than 2Gb)
- seeking in h264 files is enabled again, use -w option from commandline
to disable this if you have 100% cpu usage (using older versions of
  ffmpeg)
- Give up reading packets from a file after a number of attempts to avoid
a hanging ffmpegthumbnailer for certain file types (noticed on h264 and

[Bug 192031] Re: [hardy] Please re-enable OFX support

2008-02-16 Thread Stephan Hermann
Ok,

I don't merge the 2.2.3-2 version from debian, instead I'm adding the
changes from Thomas (Debian Maintainer) to -1ubuntu2 (which will become
now -1ubuntu3).

Why? Because there are more changes then only my FTBFS fix. And
reintroducing ofx support we can do directly.

For the record, for the next cycle it should be a goal to push all
changes back to debian.
