[Bug 201939] Re: Connecting to a ssh host with nautilus is very slow

2008-03-14 Thread Victor Osadci
Seb, you are right; removing file-roller does fix things.

With file-roller installed actions like selecting directories, moving
the selection with either the arrow keys or the mouse, opening
directories, drag-and-drop, took about 3 seconds.

Is this a known bug ? Please let me know if I can help with more info or
testing.

[Bug 202285] [NEW] system monitor

2008-03-14 Thread Stephan7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

This is a feature request:
The system monitor currently does not show all processes and so is not helpful
when trying to found out which processes are taking the most computing power.

In the attachment is shown that both my cpu's (I have a dual CPU) are busy with
some lp process which is buggy (a different issue unrelated to this).
The lefmost blue graphical box shows the CPU's are completely busy and running
top in a terminal shows clearly that user lp is taking up my CPU's.
However the gnome-monitor itself (sorted on CPU percentage, highest first)
only shows two other processes taking only 2%. It seems the list only contains
processes for the current user stephan.

My request is to let system monitor show all processes (just like top
does).

[Bug 199197] Re: [Hardy] mythfilldatabase crashed with SIGSEGV in MythContext::ClearSettingsCache()

2008-03-14 Thread Peter L Jones
Tricky. This is a crash on boot of a process executed by the start-up
scripts. I'm not clear on how I'd get the backtrace as I don't have
control of the machine at that point. In fact, I'm having trouble
spotting where during start-up mythfilldatabase gets run -- possibly
it's spawned by the mythbackend binary, just to make life more fun.

There don't appear to be Hardy debug packages for MythTV, either.

[Bug 202288] [NEW] Loses sound when seeking or when switching language

2008-03-14 Thread Kimiko Koopman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I've only noticed this yet in .mkv movies (which Nautilus reports as 'Matroska'
something or other I think).
When starting Totem (the gstreamer variant that is) with the video, it will
play it okay, but with some default language selected. When I change the
language, sound stops, even though the video keeps playing. The same thing
happens when seeking in the movie, whether it is using the keyboard or the
scroll wheel or dragging the position slider (BTW, isn't there supposed to be a
Seek To: hh:mm:ss dialog available somewhere? I can't find it).
Since Totem often (but strangely, not always) picks the worng language for
audio and I like to skip back or forth now and then, this makes it rather
useless in playing .mkv movies.

totem: 2.22.0-0ubuntu1
gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg: 0.10.3-6
gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg: 0.8.7-10ubuntu1 (I'm not sure this package is still
needed, but the v0.10 packages never actually _replaced_ the v0.8 ones in Apt)

Do you need more version numbers? I have all the latest gstreamer 0.10 packages
installed from Hardy.
Sorry, can't give you an example of a movie that gets messed up. They're all
way too large to upload here.

[Bug 202045] Re: forward and back mouse buttons don't work

2008-03-14 Thread Matthew Tighe
Here's what I had to modify to get it to work for me:

Section InputDevice
Identifier Mouse0
Driver mouse
Option CorePointer
Option Protocol ExplorerPS/2
Option Device /dev/psaux
#Option Buttons 7
Option ButtonMapping 1 2 3 8 9 10 11
#Option ZAxisMapping 6 7
EndSection

And then I have a script called .mouse-start which runs when I login
(this is a hold over from fiesty, but the scroll wheel would not work
without it):

#!/bin/sh
exec xmodmap -e pointer = 1 2 3 8 9 4 5
exec imwheel -k -b 6 7
exec $REALSTARTUP

I hope this does work out of the box for most people and this is just a
hold over thing because I've upgraded.

[Bug 196822] Re: upon start, uses 100% CPU and delays showing window

2008-03-14 Thread Kimiko Koopman
Finally got the 0.46 version through the package repository (it always takes a
few days to get there it seems). I'm sorry, but Inkscape still does the same
thing: wait (appears to hang) with 100% CPU (good thing there's two of them in
this PC, eh?) for about 1.5 minutes (or so; I didn't time it) before showing
the window and running normally. I've also tried it on my root account (which
hadn't run inkscape before I think), but the same thing happens there.
Ah well, take your time finding/fixing this bug. Inkscape isn't a program I use
often anyway.

2008-03-14 Thread nonnii
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 197954 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197954

I actually got it working for me, kind of.
I played a lot with hald and dbus ( sudo /etc/init.d/dbus restart etc.) and
managed to fuck up gnome. After restarting X the DVD actually mounted (I think
it was automatic). I had removed the /dev/scd0 line from fstab, so gnome
mounted it with the DVD-label DVD#1. When ejecting from gnome, and inserting
DVD#2 it still gets mounted as DVD#1, and not automatically. I have to access
it from nautilus, then it mounts fine (but with wrong label). There allso seems
not to be any lock on opening the dvd-bay manually, which I remember being
there.

I have needed to log out and back in again couple of times now, but seem
to get things working for a little bit again.

[Bug 131885] Re: Backlight no longer under my control on battery

2008-03-14 Thread Keenan Pepper
So, let me get this straight.

When the state changes from AC → battery → AC, or from battery → AC →
battery, g-p-m should forget the temporary setting and use the permanent
one from GConf.

However, when the state changes from busy → idle → busy, g-p-m should
remember the temporary setting.

Is this what you're proposing?

And then we have to deal with things like ambient light sensors...

For some reason hitting insert on hardy i386 doesn't change it to

works properly on i386 so I don't know what is wrong with my system.

[Bug 202301] [NEW] Firefox default home page not localized with other languages

2008-03-14 Thread Jose De la Rosa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

In Hardy Alpha 6 with latest updates as of 3/14, the Firefox default
home page is not localized when system language is set to other than
English. Default start page remains in English.

For each language, I installed language-support-XX, language-pack-XX and
language-pack-gnome-XX for each additional language I wanted to install.
I then switched languages (tested Spanish and French) in System -
Administration - Language Support and rebooted. I launched Firefox and
noticed the default home page remained in English.

[Bug 202297] [NEW] Sticky notes applet does not respond to right click in Hardy

Re: [Bug 131885] Re: Backlight no longer under my control on battery

On Fri, 2008-03-14 at 16:00 +, Keenan Pepper wrote:
Ted Gould, I tried out your package, and when I move the brightness
 slider in gnome-power-preferences, nothing happens.

Yes. The intention here is to respond to events instead of having
absolute values like the previous design. So that unplugging is an
event that is responded to, and so is plugging in or going idle.

I think that removing the slider from the preference panel is the next
step. And then the on AC value just becomes the saved value to use at
init.

Part of the problem is that it's difficult to trust the values that are
in GConf because many hardware setups change them without bothering to
tell GPM. So it's important to grab the value from the hardware before
looking to change it. There are several bugs in Launchpad with this
problem.
