Given that Hardy defaults to roaming network mode and that any use of libnss-ldap will result in a non-bootable machine, shouldn't the importance of this bug be made critical? @berg: I'm not using PT-BR locales. Installing the ca-certificates package solved the problem for me. In any case, I attached the cert directory listing in case anyone is curious. [Bug 187547] Re: nautilus eat memory, locks desktop
I confirm the original bugreport. Can easily reproduce it on current installation (nautilus 1:2.22.1-0ubuntu1) by cutting-and-pasting some files (esp. jpg images - no svg's in that folders!) around bunch of directories. Nautilus began consuming more and more memory, while eating about 80-90% cpu; if left up leads to fully inaccessible machine with oom-killer traces in syslog. After pkill'ing nautilus process, all files moved by last action in nautilus seem to be in their destination dir (that is nautilus starts leaking after actual file move/copy operations). ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Confirmed -- nautilus eat memory, locks desktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187547 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 208646] [NEW] wired network failed after updating hardy beta
Public bug reported: Same as http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=738697 >lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch) Release:8.04 Description: The problem happens on clean install of hardy beta. It is traditional chinese (Taiwan), but the problem is unlikely be related to locale. In hardy beta everything is fine, as I can surf web and write things here. I aware there are many updates, so I applied all updates from Synaptic. After reboot for applying updates, my computer cannot access network. The eth0 is fine, but it cannot utilize wired network. The computer have no wireless network access despite my router support it. On trying to configure the network, it keep saying it is "protected wired network" and either paraphrase or password is needed. I cannot solve the problem alone without network access. I can't report bug by the bug reporting software. Even the O/S does not realize there is a bug. I had to reinstall everything. Pascal, excellent, thanks for getting the backtrace and testing with another keyboard, this has really narrowed down the issue. So, looking at the backtrace I see what's going on: _XkbFreeGeomNonLeafElems(...) { ... if (freeFunc) { ptr= *elems; ptr+= first*elem_sz; for (i=0;ikeys!=NULL) XkbFreeGeomKeys(row,0,row->num_keys,True); return; } I bet that call should be something like: if (row && row->keys!=NULL) The code doesn't seem to be fixed in current git either, near as I can tell. Re: [Bug 205854] Re: Progress bar flickers during redraw
I tested it again after the update and it still flickers. Unfortunately I do not have a camera to record a video with. To be a little more descriptive, the orange of the progress bar will occasionally flash black. By the way, I have an intel x3100 graphics chip. Others might not be seeing the flicker because vsync works with their graphics chip and the frame is drawn during the screen refresh. The theme shouldn't have to rely on this, though, and should only redraw what is necessary. The progress bar background should only be drawn to the frame on the parts that were orange before and aren't any longer. Glancing through the code, I think that usplash_put_part can be used to only draw a portion of the image. [Bug 207881] Re: [Gutsy, Hardy] Black screen with mouse pointer on i830, intel driver
Weird. But I've seen where doing a VT switch can bring a system back to sanity. Thanks for attaching your Xorg.0.log. It looks like your hardware is: Intel Corporation 82830 CGC [Chipset Graphics Controller] rev 3 [chip 8086,3577 card 1179,ff00] No other obvious errors jump out though. But the 830 is a pretty old chipset. We have seen a lot of issues with i8xx chips when using the new -intel driver, and have worked with Intel to fix a lot of them, particularly i855; it wouldn't surprise me that there is additional work to be done for the old i830. Fwiw, we're still including the "i810" driver in Hardy since we know some old chips like yours work better with it than with intel; however we plan to deprecate i810 in Intrepid so would like to help you solve the issue so you can use "intel" going forward. The first step is to test some newer versions of "intel". I've built a handful of git snapshots from upstream for you to try out: http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/bisect/ Try the newest version at the top of the page, and maybe one or two other picked at random. The 2.3 driver has not been released yet, so obviously it's impossible for us to include it. ;-) However, I've built a series of snapshots from newer versions of the driver for you to test. If you can identify the version closest to the Current Hardy version that enables your system to work, it would help in identifying which patch is needed. We would just need your help in identifying which solves the problem you're having. http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/bisect/ If you find that your issue still occurs even with the newest git version, then the problem may lay with the kernel rather than with -intel. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- [Hardy] No DRI with Intel GMA 950 (aka 945GM) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/204762 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 208638] [NEW] [Hardy] Fixing update-grub in Hardy Beta
Public bug reported: 1) Source package: linux-image-2.6.24-12-386 2) Release of Ubuntu: Description:Ubuntu hardy (development branch) Release:8.04 3) Version of the package: linux-image-2.6.24-12-386: Instalados: 2.6.24-12.22 Candidato: 2.6.24-12.22 Tabla de versión: *** 2.6.24-12.22 0 500 http://ve.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 4) This is a problem I encountered while upgrading my Gutsy 7.10 to Hardy 8.04. I found the solution on http://gazambuja.ideas3.com/ (Gracias, Gustavo!), but I thought it would be good to have here, and in English. Upgrading works fine, downloads everything and gives the following error while trying to configure the new linux-image. 5) This is the output I got: Running postinst hook script /sbin/update-grub. [: 25: ==: unexpected operator exec: 25: -a: not found User postinst hook script [/sbin/update-grub] exited with value 2 dpkg: error al procesar linux-image-2.6.24-12-386 (--configure) Following that error, the rest of the installation stops because of unmet dependencies (logically). I have an nVidia 6200 Graphics card, and the drivers would not load without first fixing that. 6) This is how I solved it: We have to modify the scrip file /sbin/update-grub. In a terminal, type: gksu gedit /sbin/update-grub Look up the first line, that begins with: #!/bin/sh and change that to: #!/bin/bash Save the changes and re-run your installation. [Bug 181081] Re: r8169 module for PCI ID 1043:11f5 doesn't work well with hardy heron kernel 2.6.24
Regarding the inability to reproduce the problem, the problems that we have observed are squirrelly and vary from unit to unit. The only thing that we can consistently reproduce with our Kontron COMExpress-CD boards is that the network does not work with r8169 driver if the cable is not connected at boot time (even if the driver is re-loaded once the network is connected). RealTek's r8168 driver works gloriously every time; it seems that it does a better job of initializing the device and clearing pathological states that stochastically come up in the boards that we are using. Given that RealTek has found it necessary to release a separate driver for the r8168 (which they are keeping up to date and releasing under GPL), and multiple users are reporting that it fixes issues for them on their specific hardware compared to the r8169, is there a compelling reason NOT to use this driver in the kernel for R8168/8111 devices instead of the r8169? -- r8169 module for PCI ID 1043:11f5 doesn't work well with hardy heron kernel 2.6.24 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181081 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 208556] Re: qdbuscpp2xml uses moc-qt3 instead of moc-qt4
sudo update-alternatives --config moc Select the Qt4 version. This is a packaging bug and not a bug with Qt. If there was only one version of Qt, then we would install moc-qt4 as moc. Prior to the Qt4 releases, moc-qt3 was just moc. So it is no coding issue with Qt whatsoever, however it is a bit of a mistake possibly in setting the alternatives --install priority in the libqt4-dev.postinst in the package. Will have Jonathan Riddell look into this. [Bug 158250] Re: user logs out in multiseat makes other seat lockup
Yes, still an issue. I bought a not too new radeon X800 pci-e and I'm using the open source radeon driver now. I though either the integrated controller or the closed source fglrx drivers were part of the problem. I've read that evdev breaks again the multiuser configuration in Hardy, and that's why I haven't tried it yet. It was real pain to get evdev to work in Gutsy. And since this is the computer that my family uses for everything, I can't have it down too long. I guess that's why I choose Ubuntu in the first place. [Bug 88923] Re: Package 'midisport-firmware': firmware is not loaded automatically
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 27833 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/27833 I've only tested with a live CD and I am not sure if this is an idiosincrasy of the live CD and with a regular hard drive install things work different. (I am intending to test it with other computer since that which I am using now is for real work). With the March 18th beta and the live daily build of March 28 what I've seen is that the usb devices that normaly appeared both mounted at /proc/bus/usb/###/### and at /dev/bus/usb/###/###, now only appear at /dev/bus/usb/ In my case the workaround is issue an lsusb to identify the bus and device numbers of the Midiman device and then load manualy the firmware with something like: "/sbin/fxload -s /lib/firmware/maudio/MidiSportLoader.ihx -I /lib/firmware/maudio/MidiSportKS.ihx -D /dev/bus/usb/##1/##2" being ##1 and ##2 the numbers showed with the lsusb command and substituing "MidiSportKS.ihx" with that appropriate to your m-audio device. A script to automaticaly do the workaround could be: #!/bin/bash #your firmware ... taken from usbmidi. You must substitute '.ihx' for the corresponding to your device fw=/lib/firmware/maudio/.ihx #perhaps you need an additional second stage firmware blob loader. Then you could set the following #fw2=/lib/firmware/maudio/MidiSportLoader.ihx #and change 'fxload -I $fw -D $dev' line to 'fxload -s $fw2 -I $fw -D $dev #get proc address. Perhaps you must change 'Midisport' for 'Midiman' bd=$( lsusb | grep Midisport | cut -d ' ' -f 2,4 | sed -e 's/ /\//' -e 's/://' ) # normally it should be 'dev=/proc/bus/usb/$bd' dev=/dev/bus/usb/$bd #load firmware echo fxload -I $fw -D $dev fxload -I $fw -D $dev -- Package 'midisport-firmware': firmware is not loaded automatically https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/88923 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
