[Bug 215904] Re: [SRU] (ITS#5518) Assertion error in io.c:234: ber_flush2

2008-06-02 Thread mikmak
it seems I am still getting a few crashes by night,
occured twice with the new packages : both master and slave (different servers)
crashed around 0:00
I thought it could be related to log rotation, but that seems to be a 6:00am
thing, so I don't know why it crashes at 0:00
anybody else got these kind of crashes ?

Mik

[Bug 217137] Re: Hardy Heron: Nautilus fails to open directory with more than 140 subfolders

2008-06-02 Thread Paul Pieroni
Sorry I'm n00b to the bug-handling stuff, but it looks as if this bug
will close shortly. Is there a fix? Has the bug been accepted? It
really IS a show-stopper and manifests for me on 8.04.

I am unsure if I should install Chuck's version of Samba as, with my
relative inexperience I feel fixes should come through the normal update
process.

How do I stop this bug report from being abandoned?

[Bug 236373] Re: '/etc/init.d/nagios2 reload' causes nagios to exit (sends SIGTERM not SIGHUP)

2008-06-02 Thread Albert Damen
Please note this is actually a bug in lsb, which doesn't properly handle
signals passed to killproc.
This has been fixed in Debian (lsb 3.2-12), so a merge of lsb will fix this in
Intrepid.
See bug 228460.

[Bug 203169] Re: status function for init scripts

2008-06-02 Thread nxvl
I think we need to wait until lsb is patched and uploaded to start
changing the rest of the packages, also we will need to depend on the
specific version of lsb (as pointed by steve on his comment).

Also the patch of apache doesn't seem to use the standard procedure
described by Dustin.

Onno: Please update your patches whenever the lsb-base package is
uploaded into the ubuntu repositories including the patch suggested by

[Bug 236931] [NEW] openssh-server does not find dsa keys authorized_keys file

2008-06-02 Thread Max V.K.
Public bug reported:

using:
server os: ubuntu 8.04
openssh-server: 1:4.7p1-8ubuntu1.2

client os: debian etch 4.0
openssh-client: 4.3p2-9etch2

what I wanted:
needed to login without password into ubuntu server from debian client as root.

what I did:
1. on client:
1.1 created dsa key with the command:
ssh-keygen -t dsa
1.2 copied public key to the server's authorized_keys file.
1.3 tried to login, failed (have been asked for a password)

2. on server:
2.1 increased loglevel to:
LogLevel DEBUG3
on the server
2.2 restarted the server:
invoke-rc.d ssh restart
2.3. polled on /var/log/auth.log

3. back on client side:
3.1 tried to login, as root:
ssh [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and have been asked for password

4. on server in the poll I got:
=== start dump ==

[Bug 236931] Re: openssh-server does not find dsa keys authorized_keys file

I tried to reproduce this on a very similar setup, and failed. Could you
please show me (by private mail if you like) the contents of the public

Nicolas-

We're really hoping Debian will pick up the patches to lsb-base. Or,
at the very least, get some feedback from Debian and find out what
more we need to do to get them acceptable.

As soon as that happens, we will sync Debian's lsb-base to Ubuntu, and
start patching other packages. Obviously, upstream in Debian wherever
possible.

Thanks,

Sorry for not making this clear: Gimp was already installed as well. As
was Opera and okular, which also showed up as available applications
once I had installed Gnome. These three applications were installed
prior to installing f-spot, but still weren't picked up. I also double-
checked that Gimp's entry in /usr/share/applications/gimp.desktop was
correct, which it was. (AFAIK, that's where f-spot picks up its list of
applications that can handle a given mime-type)

[Bug 160131] Re: erc reconnects to channels on wrong servers (too)

Yes, I still get this with the standalone erc 5.3-1ubuntu1 on emacs22 on
Hardy amd64.

To make the repro steps more effective, one could create an SSH tunnel
from localhost to some remote IRC server -- the SSH crypto is
irrelevant here, the point is just to give you an easy way to establish
a second server, and disconnect and reconnect it at will.

To downgrade, first you need to download the deb file, in this case from:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/s/sane-backends/
Download at any directory the file libsane_1.0.18-3ubuntu1_i386.deb
Then, in a terminal, move to the directory where the file has been downloaded
and execute:
sudo dpkg -i --force-downgrade libsane_1.0.18-3ubuntu1_i386.deb
Good luck.

[Bug 234804] Re: cannot install Asus Xonar DX on 64-bit

Latest discovery points to a problem with Hardy, not Alsa. My 64bit

The 32bit Gutsy install, on which the Xonar is working, does possess the
module. Running apt-get install linux-ubuntu-modules has not solved

[Bug 226279] Re: Kernel 2.6.24-17 - broken resume from suspend to RAM

2008-06-02 Thread William Grant
I'm similar to the rest: -16 resumes quickly, -17 doesn't, and neither
does -19. However, -19 seems to recover in around one-third of the time
that -17 takes, but I've only performed three trials on the new one.

Blacklisting ehci_hcd doesn't fix it, although both pm_trace and dmesg
point to it being the culprit, as 1d.7 is the only EHCI controller in
the system. Even removing all USB-related modules doesn't help.

[Bug 173293] Re: Tuxpaint 0.9.19 with new useful features was released in February - please update packages

2008-06-02 Thread sancelot
furthermore, it does not print at all.
After having quick look at postscript generated output, the postscript code is
not correct. And some errors may be related to the use in the french language.
So, before I submit a bug for this problem please upgrade the package, since
it may be corrected in next releases.

[Bug 140051] Re: xf86-video-amd: fails to autoconfigure

2008-06-02 Thread Billy
Just a question for the professionals here. I can't switch to the
virtual console (ALT+CTRL+F1), it starts fading to white and then
nothing happens. It does the same fading before X is starting and it
takes a lot of time. Is there a possibilty to eliminate this
fading/blending?

[Bug 236700] [NEW] UBUNTU 7.1 ANS 8.04 Fail on install while copying files

2008-06-02 Thread Chris Jeffries
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

I have tried installing both 7.10 and 8.04 and got the same probelm both times.
I tried installing PC Linux OS into the same space without a similar problem.
The installer gets about 50% through the copying files process and then fails.
It suggests either the CD or my Hard disk is at fault (read/write error) but
the 7.10 was from a factory produced CD and the 8.04 was from a version burned
onto a DVD. So different media, different format (save drive reading). The hard
disk has been successfully filled with files as a windows partition previously
and formattted OK by the partitioner.

Last attempt yielded this message:
Installer Crashed

We're sorry: th einstaller crashed. Please file a new bug at here and
a developer will attend to the problem as soon as possible. To help the

I had to install PC Linux OS so that I could get a GRUB so I could get access
to my Windows installation.
ptn0: is a recovery partition for Windows (2.9gb.
ptn1 is the windows (NTFS) partition (35.6GB),
ptn2 is 32.2 Linux root and
ptn3 is Linux swap,
leaving about 800Mb unallocated.

therefore I don't have access to the requested log files. Where would I
find them, and how?

I REALLY want Ubuntu. IT finds all the hardware etc so much better. So
any guidance would be most welcome.

Chris.

[Bug 224697] Re: Disable hibernation if swap is on file

2008-06-02 Thread Martin Pitt
In general that looks fine. However, you should robustify it for the
case that /proc/swaps does not exist for some reason (people might have
disabled it in the kernel config, or whatever). Also, can you please
open an upstream bug for it and link it here?

I'll sponsor this to intrepid and hardy-proposed after that. Thanks!

With bzr checkout bzr+ssh://bazaar.launchpad.net/~planet-

[Bug 192888] Re: firefox crashes on flash contents when using libflashsupport

2008-06-02 Thread Arthur
I still think that some blame is to be put to ubuntu's firefox package.
Even though it may trigger a bug in the flash plugin itself it seems to
be significantly different to the official firefox releases from
mozilla.org which don't trigger this bug and don't crash.

[Bug 236704] [NEW] /var/lib/postgresql/8.3 should be owner by the postgres user

2008-06-02 Thread Stuart Bishop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postgresql

/var/lib/postgresql/8.3 (and 8.2) is owned by root. It should be owned
by the postgres user to create and remove directories here, making
database creation easier as the postgres user.

The workaround is to rename the /var/lib/8.3 directory (which can be
done as the postgres user) and recreating the /var/lib/postgresql/8.3
tree.

[Bug 164120] Re: nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2008-06-02 Thread Franz
Same problem here: Under Hardy, when turning off my home network server
(running the Hardy server edition), autofs-mounted shares will stall
nautilus. The last few lines of an strace nautilus --no-desktop read:

socket(PF_FILE, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 20
fcntl(20, F_SETFL, O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK) = 0
fcntl(20, F_SETFD, FD_CLOEXEC) = 0
connect(20, {sa_family=AF_FILE,
path=/tmp/orbit-franz/linc-20cf-0-32e16af5e90ec}, 49) = 0
writev(20, [{GIOP\1\2\1\0v\0\0\0, 12},
{\350O#\210\3\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\34\0\0\0\0\0\0\0y\210h\250\347..., 118}], 2) = 130
poll(

The final poll( will seemingly hang forever. The mount points are
bookmarked in nautilus, and doing the same under a diffferent user who
has *not* bookmarked the NFS shares (e.g. as root) will bring up
nautilus instantly. This leads to the conclusion that it might be a
nautilus bug.

Re: [Bug 122688] Re: produces empty core dumps

2008-06-02 Thread Martin Pitt
Hi,

Craig Maloney [2008-05-31 3:34 -]:
I can confirm this is an issue with an upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy. I am
experiencing exactly the same behavior mentioned above. I'm not
receiving any crash reports, even though apport is supposedly running.

NB that apport is turned off by default in Hardy final, this time by
completely disabling it in /etc/default/apport. This avoids wasting a
lot of disk access and delays after a program crashed.

So if you do not get any crash report at all, it is behaving as
intended. If you do get crash reports, but the core dump is empty, you
triggered this bug.

2008-06-02 Thread Martin Pitt
Roger, you don't need to wait for Intrepid. Just upgrade to the current

In Ubuntu it is System - Administration - Software Sources - Updates.
I don't know where it is in Xubuntu, but it should be in a similar
place.

[Bug 146737] Re: Ubuntu offers no zero configuration network or so (unlike Apple)

2008-06-02 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Zero configuration would mean that it requires zero configuration,
so you are wrong.

This is btw. not against avahi or any other specific program but about a
missing feature which could IMHO easily be implemented using
technologies already shipping with Ubuntu. It is about configuration.

Once again I ask you to not make this thread your personal anti avahi
thread. This is not what it is about. Apart from that, you already have
numerous anti avahi threads running in launchpad, so please leave this
one alone. Thank you.

[Bug 209021] Re: no out-of-the-box support for nokia e70 syncing and backup

2008-06-02 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Okay. How do I find out which package would be relevant? I am basically
thinking of ways of syncing it with evolution.

Wammu looks like the solution for backup. By some technical reason I do
not know, however, launchpad does not allow filing it against wammu.

To get the degree of comfort expected by the average user, this would
also require auto-detection and auto-opening of either an evolution
syncing tool or wammu. Which package would be responsible for that?

[Bug 190383] Re: last.fm plugin no longer scrobbles

2008-06-02 Thread Eythian
I don't think this is a rhythmbox issue. Looking at my last.fm
dashboard, nobody has scrobbled anything in the past few hours. So I
think it's a last.fm fault.

[Bug 236690] Re: Then system log out, The systm will Lose of response.

2008-06-02 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report as
such. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make
more sense to raise your question in the support tracker.

[Bug 164120] Re: nautilus hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible

2008-06-02 Thread dmizer
This is not a nautilus bug. I have the same problem in Hardy XUBUNTU
which uses Thunar rather than Nautilus. But, it does use the gvfs as
far as I know. Whereas, KUBUNTU does not make use of gvfs and is not
afflicted with this problem.

[Bug 81057] Re: DNS Resolves everything to 1.0.0.0 intermittently on some ADSL Routers

2008-06-02 Thread Chris Frost
I started encountering this bug on 2008/05/30 with exim in Ubuntu 8.04.

To connect to the smarthost, exim first causes an lookup.
(Oddly, an error response to this lookup that the name does not exist seems to
cause my machine to repeat te lookup. Only when the server sends an empty
response does my machine move on and ask for the A record.)
After the lookup(s) my machine sends an A lookup; the qwest actiontec nat
box sends an A response of 1.0.0.0.

Only my lo interface has an ipv6 address, and telnet, wget, and firefox
do not generate lookups.tu

[Bug 191137] Re: [Hardy] ACPI Embedded Controller (EC) stops boot when kernel boot 'quiet' option is enabled or AC power is connected

2008-06-02 Thread wvengen
For one thing, upstream has marked the bug as invalid since they got no
response. So if anyone who experiences the problem and can compile his own
kernel from upstream could test, please answer upstream (or here if you don't
want to create a bugzilla account there).
  http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10444#c9
This still leaves open Thomas' question.
