[Bug 247152] Re: incorrect window manager shown as selected

2008-07-09 Thread Connor Imes
I can confirm this bug. The same problem occurs when you use "metacity
--replace" or "compiz --replace". fusion-icon does not recognize which
window manager is actually running, it just keeps its old value.

Because getting a system freeze while using firefox seems strange. Could
be a video driver problem ?

Just guessing, of course.

[Bug 217846] Re: Slow suspend/resume in Hardy

2008-07-09 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
Here the /etc/network/interfaces is not involved in slow resume after
suspend to RAM, so the proposed workaround doesn't help.

When resuming my Acer Aspire 3104 WLMi, my hard disk always works like
crazy for at least 1 minute before I at least get the screen backlight
to light again, and still more before I eventually get the screensaver
unlock prompt. After resumed I notice the swap is highly used (at least
400 MB) even if it was almost empty when I suspended.

The machine has 1 GB RAM and 2 GB swap, and I have no clue about why it
happens only with this laptop : I have several Kubuntu Hardy laptops,
and only this one shows such a resume behaviour, the fastest one being a
Dell XPS M1330 on which resuming is really completely intantaneous.

[Bug 245480] Re: ldtp 1.1.0-1 is not building in Intrepid

2008-07-09 Thread Daniel Holbach
Just a few things:
 - the change to Standards-Version: 3.8.0.1 is not really necessary, first of
all it's a change we will have to merge the next time we merge from Debian and
it has no impact for our users. Also the first three digits are enough, the
fourth is just about orthographical changes.
 - debian/changelog mentions a "New upstream release", which is not true in
this case
 - could you add a (LP: #245480) to debian/changelog - that will automatically
close the bug report on upload.

Other than that - the patch looks good.

[Bug 246585] Re: GTK applications crashing reproducibly when using vesa

2008-07-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
Looking at gdk_display_get_screen(), it returns NULL if there are no
screens defined:

GdkScreen *
gdk_display_get_screen (GdkDisplay *display,
gintscreen_num)
{
  g_return_val_if_fail (GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display), NULL);
  g_return_val_if_fail (ScreenCount (GDK_DISPLAY_X11 (display)->xdisplay) >
screen_num, NULL);

  return GDK_DISPLAY_X11 (display)->screens[screen_num];
}

However, I'm not sure why it's doing so in this case...

(gdb) print ((GdkDisplayX11*)display)->xdisplay->nscreens

(gdb) print screen_num
$46 = 0
(gdb) print ((GdkDisplayX11*)display)->xdisplay->screens[0]

[Bug 227180] Re: scim problem under kubuntu hardy (kde 3.5.9)

2008-07-09 Thread David Nemeskey
It seems that katapult does not work with the static event flow. Please do the
following:
1. vi (or your favourite text editor) ~/.scim/config
2. find the line /FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic = false
3. change "false" to "true" (without the quotation marks)
4. save the file
5. make it read-only: chmod -w ~/.scim/config
6. restart X (ctrl-alt-backspace)

Step 5 is necessary because if the file is not read-only, sometimes the system
(maybe the scim configuration panel) changes the setting back to false.
You can repeat these steps 1-4 for the /etc/scim/config file, which, if I
understood correctly, is the "template" for the config files in the users'
directories. You have to be root to do that, though.

Honestly, I have no idea why the event flow is not dynamic ("true") by
default, as static has all kinds of problems. Input sometimes freezes in
applications, etc. I don't understand why do the user have to go to the
console and do the im-switch-ing manually either...

[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk

2008-07-09 Thread Hopey
This was indeed very unpleasant bug to discover after spending money to
raid disks, new server hardware. Now that the server is up and running,
doing it all again with Debian doesn't feel that great option either. I
hope I get it booting correctly with some instructions given here.
Otherwise I guess I'm forced to change distribution or then feel that it
was money wasted building raid. :(

[Bug 235395] Re: nedit diag windows do not appear with compiz

A bit more searching turns up a page devoted to these issues.
Apparently I'm not the only one to suspect it's a Compiz vs Motif
interaction (and other Motif apps exhibit the same behavior).

Re: [Bug 246475] Re: HP LaserJet P1006 Printer Unable to Print

2008-07-09 Thread UbuntuLinux
I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (latest version with updates).

I haven't installed the PPD from openprinting.org, however, I have been able
to print "right-out-of-the-box" before I installed the "HP Device Manager"
for Linux. This raises some problems in printing, such as being able to use
the manual double-sided-printing HP LaserJet P1006 provides.

Also, please answer these questions:
Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?
Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

The gnome-screensaver starts normally but when the screen goes back, it
comes suddenly back to the normal state. Even tough I don't need the

the gnome-screensaver to mark session as idle.

If it's even possible. I would send a log from the operation but I don't

[Bug 247169] [NEW] When two users with X sessions run kde-guidance-powermanager with automatic suspend, sometimes system suspends again immediately after restart or switching to another user

2008-07-09 Thread Terje Bergström
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kde-guidance-powermanager

Release Kubuntu 8.04.1, package kde-guidance-powermanager
0.8.0svn20080103-0ubuntu16.1, source package kde-guidance

I have always two X sessions logged in --- mine and my wife's. Both have
kde-guidance-powermanager running, with automatic suspend after 8 or 12
minutes (different times on different accounts, tried with both 10
minutes, too).

Two symptoms:
1) When I have used the laptop from my own account, and my wife starts using
hers with K-menu -> Switch user, the laptop suspends immediately when her
session is activated. Probably kde-guidance-powermanager from her account
figures that she hasn't been using the laptop for a while and suspends
immediately when it receives control.

2) Laptop suspended -> turned on -> switched to another session ->
laptop suspends again.

[Bug 247170] [NEW] KMail can't read mail in certain folder

2008-07-09 Thread jhyder79
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kmail

I have a folder in KMail that I use for archiving old e-mails. Today I
attempted to make some changes to this folder and noticed the following
problems:

1. The folder currently has 6 unread e-mail messages but no matter how many
times I click "Mark All Messages as Read" the folder is still highlighted in
bold text.
2. When I attempt to open any e-mail message in this folder nothing
happens...no matter what I do.
3. The only way I have been able to retrieve the messages out of this folder is
to forward the message to myself (when I do this the message opens with no
problem).
4. When I attempt to move the e-mails from this folder to a new folder,
kmail/kontact crashes and I get the output in the attached file
(kontact.kcrash).

This bug can be reproduced every time item #4 is attempted.

OTHER INFO:

[Bug 152022] Re: [gutsy] KDE Basket crashes on startup

2008-07-09 Thread Yuanchen Zhu
I found a work around for this problem. It seems to be caused by using a
custom icon theme that's missing some icons that BasKet uses. I was
experiencing exactly the same problem today when I first leaned about
basket and decided to give it a trip. However, launching BasKet with a
new user account so the default KDE icon theme is used, or switching the
icon theme back to the default one in KControl solves the problem for
me.

(which you have set). Hopefully this will be enough to get someone
started.

Unfortunately after the last set of updates, once I log into gnome the
screen goes to a blank light beige or white uniform field. I can still
ctrl-alt-F1 to get to terminal and tried apt-get update / upgrade, but
the updates that came down didn't fix the problem.

If I can help anyone with more info from terminal I would be happy to
help tomorrow after work. Otherwise I suspect it will be this weekend
before I get things fixed up (I'm hoping for a magic update in the mean
time :-).

[Bug 247167] [NEW] Description of "bittorrent" package should mention that it has a tracker too

2008-07-09 Thread Prateek Karandikar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bittorrent

I was looking for a bittorrent tracker in the repos, and so I searched
for "tracker" in Adept, and also did apt-cache search tracker. The
package bittorrent did not show up, though it does contain a tracker
(bttrack). I'm using Kubuntu 8.04.

[Bug 79428] Re: No Sound in Armada 1700 series laptops

2008-07-09 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
The 18 month support period for Edgy Eft 6.10 has reached it's end of
life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft
kernel task. However, can you confirm if this issue still exists in the
Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS release or, alternatively the Intrepid Ibex 8.10
Alpha2 which is also scheduled for release today? It will appear at the
following when available: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha2
. It contains the the actively developed 2.6.26 Ubuntu kernel. It
would be great if you could test this upcoming release via a LiveCD and
verify if the issue still exists. If so, please include the appropriate
debugging information as outlined at

bug to 'new' and the bug will be reviewed again. Thanks in advance.

2008-07-09 Thread Dereck Wonnacott
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I am changing the package to acpi-support'. Please
include the following additional information on the latest release Hardy
8.04, as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:

1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the
resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report. (note "vv" not 'w")
4. Once the above information is attached, set the bug status to 'new' to
signify that it is ready for triage or review.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at [WWW]
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

[Bug 101936] Re: [apport] prboom crashed with SIGSEGV in free()

2008-07-09 Thread Yfrwlf
If the user already has midi configured, installing Timidity wouldn't
mess that up, right? But at the very least, wouldn't prboom start using
Timidity instead of the user-configured midi? However...

Maybe it's just me, but since I've never seen hardware midi working out
of the box, I'm thinking that maybe it's just far easier to make
Timidity or some kind of midi emulator and sound bank be a dependency of
any program which requires midi. Not only does it seem like out-of-the-
box hardware midi device support is a pretty long way away from being a
reality, but midi emulation doesn't take much CPU power. I have an old
processor, and prboom runs wonderfully with Timidity installed (aside
from a few bugs here and there that the game has).

life. As a result, we are closing the linux-source-2.6.17 Edgy Eft
kernel task. However, can you confirm if this issue still exists in the
Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS release? If so, the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha2 is
also scheduled for release today. It will appear at the following when
available: http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha2 . It contains
the the actively developed 2.6.26 Ubuntu kernel. It would be great if
you could test this upcoming release via a LiveCD and verify if the
issue still exists. If so, please include the appropriate debugging
information as outlined at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems . Thanks in advance.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Intrepid Ibex. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Intrepid comes with compiz-fusion-
bcop 0.7.6-1, so you should be able to test by installing this new
version. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

[Bug 235395] Re: nedit diag windows do not appear with compiz

2008-07-09 Thread Chris
I'm seeing the same thing here, on multiple machines, all Hardy x86 with
all the updates applied.

I have seen this issue with one other app: SAOimage ds9. Launching ds9
from the menu produces the tiny vertical window you can see (with low
opacity) floating over this post I'm typing. I suspect it is due to a
bad interaction between Compiz and Motif (perhaps Compiz is ignoring WM
hints from Motif?)

There is a crude workaround for NEdit posted at:
http://www.nedit.org/pipermail/discuss/2008-February/009663.html

Please do reopen this bug.
