[Bug 286828] Re: CIFS share broken after upgrade from 8.04 - 8.10

2008-11-05 Thread Alexey Mentat
To clearify the problem:

After upgrading 8.04 -- 8.10, file writes via CIFS have been broken.
CIFS normally reads or creates files, but it fails to write into existing file.

To reproduce the problem: Try open in midnight commander or in
leafpad any file via mounted cifs, make tiny changes and try to save.
You'll got the write error !

(sorry for double post)

[Bug 294148] [NEW] move_uploaded_file does not set right permissions (ignores umask)

2008-11-05 Thread Hark
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: php5

After calling move_uploaded_file a file should get permissions according
to the set umask. When /tmp is on the same partition as the file's
destination this doesn't happen, the file gets mode 600 making it
unreadable by Apache.

I think this bug was introduced in an upgrade a few weeks maybe months
ago.

[Bug 283852] Re: tomcat6 does not include tomcat-dbcp.jar

Hi,

I confirm this bug.

I had to add the missing jar tomcat-dbcp.jar manually copied from another
tomcat 6.
After adding it was successfully loading datasource settings.
And my webapp is fully working.

To solve the problem waiting for a fix, just get the tomcat-dbcp.jar
from another tomcat 6 and copy it under /usr/share/tomcat6/lib.

[Bug 294277] [NEW] Tomcat 6 missing directory Catalina in /etc/tomcat6 - so impossible to deploy webapp

2008-11-05 Thread Vincent
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat6

Hi,

On ubuntu 8.10, the conf directory for tomcat6 is located in /etc/tomcat6, and
this directory is not writable for tomcat6 user, which one tomcat6 process is
executed under.
Tomcat 6 version is 6.0.18-0ubuntu3

However, if you try to deploy a webapp with a META-INF/context.xml you can't
get it working because when you put a webapp to tomcat to have it autodeployed,
tomcat will copy the META-INF/context.xml picked up from the war file to
[tomcat-home]/conf/Catalina/localhost/webappname.xml
Here Catalina and localhost depend on your service name and virtual host
name.
[tomcat-home]/conf/ is /etc/tomcat6 on the file system.

But due to the fact that the /etc/tomcat6 is not tomcat6 user writable,
tomcat can't create subdirectories Catalina/localhost/webappname.xml
so your webapp can't have its context setted and it won't start access
the database you setted in a datasource in the context.xml file.

I solved the problem creating a directory named Catalina (take care about the
case) under /etc/tomcat6, chowned it to tomcat6:tomcat6 and restarting tomcat.
After restarting, it created the subdirectories listed above.

I think this directory must be available at the installation of tomcat6.

This took me an afternoon to discover it and drove me a bit cray.

Sorry for this awful engish - I'm french. That means all.

[Bug 281569] Re: package samba-common 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2008-11-05 Thread Stéphane Charette
Similar thing -- prompted for changes in smb.conf. The side-by-side
display of changes was useless since it doesn't use a monospace font.
When I chose the 3-way merge, the thing borked. The same text in my
upgrade terminal window.

This is during the Installing the upgrades portion. The progress bar
shows pretty close to 100%. Just below it is the text Installed

The entire window is disabled/insensitive, so I cannot copy-paste the
tex in the terminal. But here is what I see:

[CIFS] fix saving of resume key before CIFSFindNext

We recently fixed the cifs readdir code so that it saves the resume key
before calling CIFSFindNext. Unfortunately, this assumes that we have
just done a CIFSFindFirst (or FindNext) and have resume info to save.
This isn't necessarily the case. Fix the code to save resume info if we
had to reinitiate the search, and after a FindNext.

This fixes connectathon basic test6 against NetApp filers.

commit 0752f1522a9120f731232919f7ad904e9e22b8ce
Author: Steve French [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Date: Tue Oct 7 20:03:33 2008 +

[CIFS] make sure we have the right resume info before calling
CIFSFindNext

When we do a seekdir() or equivalent, we usually end up doing a
FindFirst call and then call FindNext until we get to the offset that we
want. The problem is that when we call FindNext, the code usually
doesn't have the proper info (mostly, the filename of the entry from the
last search) to resume the search.

Add a last_entry field to the cifs_search_info that points to the last
entry in the search. We calculate this pointer by using the
LastNameOffset field from the search parms that are returned. We then
use that info to do a cifs_save_resume_key before we call CIFSFindNext.

This patch allows CIFS to reliably pass the telldir connectathon
test.

The issue is defiantly a client issue. I've tested rolling my kernel

Could you point me to the pair of fixes to cifs in 2.6.27?

[Bug 294528] [NEW] installing getlive crashed on wizard gui when pressing cancel

2008-11-05 Thread AFD
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

I installed getlive through the ubuntu 8.10 package manager and it began
installing fine.

Once the install had got to roughly 50% it popped up with a gui wizard
for config but I couldn't be sure which option to go for so used the
cancel button in order to follow the walkthrough I'd found for this app
online.

The package manager installer then crashed (after cancelling the 2nd
time the pop up appeared) and I continued with the walkthrough :
http://www.simonives.info/blog/2008/october/how_check_your_hotmail_or_windows_live_account_ubuntu_with_evolution

Unfortunately this walkthrough also stumped me when it comes to the end
and he mentions Evolution using the getlive scripts The folder/file
that he determines as being 'FetchedMail' is not there as either a
folder or a file and after trying to create either option neither
satisfied Evolution.

Shame - if ubuntu's default mail client could access hotmail out of the
box I know a lot of people who would switch!

[Bug 294026] [NEW] Kernel Panic on Ultrabase boot

2008-11-05 Thread Jeff Galli
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo x61 tablet with ultrabase. There is a hdd in the
computer(vista only) and a second hdd in the ultrabase(ubuntu only). I
installed 64-bit Ubuntu Desktop from a pen drive onto the hard drive in
the ultrabase. From that it installs and reboots and I can get into the
desktop. The problem occurs after system update ran, causing kernel
panic upon reboot (flashing caps lock key). No extra packages or
repositories were installed, only updates.

I also tried installing and upgrading while the ubuntu hdd was
physically in the computer, but once it is back in the ultrabase, it
kernel panics. Sorry I am new to reporting bugs, so I don't know how to
get messages from the kernel panic, but if it makes a log, I can get
into a live-cd and retrieve logs / install patches?. Thank you.

[Bug 294030] [NEW] Hangs at Loading, please wait - Resumes when holding a Key!

2008-11-05 Thread ls
Public bug reported:

I'm using Xubuntu 8.10 on a HP dv6545eg Notebook: Turion 64X2, 2GB, 120gb HDD,
NForce Chipset, Gf7150 graphics, built-in Ricoh Card-Reader, Broadcom Wireless.
All worked fine with Xubuntu and Ubuntu 8.04.

But this is the problem with 8.10 (i turned splash boot screen off, but
it's not relevant for the problem):

The System hangs at boot up on Loading, please wait. It hangs there
till you press and hold any key. It resumes booting, while you're
holding the key. If you release the key it hangs again. Once the boot
process got to a point short before it changes the font, it resumes
normaly, without you having to hold a key.

I had this problem with booting the live-cd as well, but with holding a
key i got to the installation assistent and installed the system without
any problems.

Hope my english is good enough do discripe it properly.

[Bug 293751] Re: [intrepid] network manager does not stop nm-system-settings when stopped

2008-11-05 Thread Stephan Trebels
Wouldn't it be better to use inotify on /etc/network and
/etc/network/interfaces to have nm-system-settings be notified of any
changes in the file? The same would certainly apply to ifcfg for Fedora
and SuSE, i.e. /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts for Fedora-based dists.
Then the file(s) can just be reloaded, when changed and the need for a
daemon restart is gone.

Why is nm-system-settings coupled with NetworkManager (started
implicitely), anyway? Why can't nm-system-settings be explicitely
started and stopped from the init.d script with e.g. a dbus-message nm-
system-settings-available and nm-system-settings-unavailable to
message state between daemons (to avoid races). Even separate init.d
scripts would make sense IMO.

Hi!

I'd be happy if Ubuntu could sync to what's in Debian. I'm the main
author, and as well the maintainer of the package in Debian. The Debian
package is always up-to-date, but I don't know what is the procedure to
have the Ubuntu package follow. Lenny will be out with our current
stable version (0.29.14-1) which is currently in a frozen state with a
special Git branch for it. This is of a much much better quality than
what is currently in Ubuntu. I'd be happy if somebody could take the
responsibility of the Ubuntu maintenance.

Anyway, if you want to participate to the development of the project
itself, you are welcome in. Please send a mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to register the dev mailing list. Archive of
the dev list can be found here:

Thomas

Hi,

After first reboot, i had to modify /boot/grub/menu.lst with the same boot

the installer did not add this in this file.

bhaskar, did you do anything (removing memory, adding parameter) to

[Bug 232170] Re: EeePC Volume and Wireless Hotkeys Do Not Function Out-Of-The-Box with Ubuntu (8.04 Hardy LTS, Intrepid Alpha 1)

2008-11-05 Thread Eythian
So, my experimentation bears fruit. I created a file (for test purposes, it's
clearly not a global solution):
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/etc/acpi$ cat if-asus-eee.sh
#!/bin/bash
`dirname $0`/$1

which doesn't really test to see if it is an eeepc, it just runs the
command anyway. Now my volume (mute, vol up, vol dn) work just fine.
Wireless doesn't (sleep and brightness always have.)

[Bug 294036] [NEW] Evolution can't handle OpenOffice attachments with doubleclick

2008-11-05 Thread Said Babayev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

1)Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

2) evolution:
  Installed: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2

3) I'm trying to open a MS Office file (.xls/.doc), from message window
in attachment section, but nothing happens. If I right click, and select
open with openoffice, it works. All other files are ok, (.odt, .ods,
.jpeg, etc)

4) When I double click a file in attachment section, it should open with
openoffice.

Seems like problem related to file association

[Bug 294034] [NEW] GoogleEarth unusably-slow on eee 901

2008-11-05 Thread JoseLVG
Public bug reported:

I am a EEE 901 user with Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex (v8.10).

GoogleEarth was properly working on Xandros, but it goes horribly slow
in Ubuntu, and I don't know why.

I followed with NO LUCK these instructions (that I think are for a eee 701, a
less powerfull machine):
http://wiki.eeeuser.com/howto:fixgoogleearthspeed
In my case...

1) I don't see the drmWaitVBlank errors neither before or after
applying the patch BUT the application is unusably slow both before and
after patching.

2) In my case there is NO atmosphere option in GoogleEarth configuration
to change from true to false, so I created it (to false) and I get the
feeling that it doesn't change anything (I think the atmosphere is there
still).

What can I do now? Any ideas?

[Bug 294033] [NEW] no more than two workspaces on Dual Monitor

2008-11-05 Thread Grab485
Public bug reported:

I use the latest Ubuntu 8.10 but the bug was also present in Ubuntu 8.04.
Hardware: Asus Z83SV series laptop. Video card Nvidia 8600GS 256Mb. CPU Intel
Centrino Dual Core.
The proprietary drivers is in use. Everithing is OK. Full compiz effects etc.
Using nvidia-settings I change my settings to Dual Monitor (another LCD flat
panel to external VGA connector).
Everithing is OK. Now I see two X-window (nvidia-settings calls them screen0
and screen1).
Now it's time to bug : on screen1 I can not make more then two workspaces.
When I try to change it (right click on workspaces icon, properties, change
digit to, for example, 4), the quantity of workspaces remains two BUT on
opposite screen (screen0) it changes to 4!

If I do the same for screen0, everithing is OK. I can make as many
workspaces as I want.
