[Bug 293755] Re: [intrepid] network manager has startup race
This appears to be in upstart, not network manager. Somehow the rc2 symlinks are started twice, at least I see atd complaining about being started twice as well. Only NetworkManager really fails if being started while running. I suspect that some of the underlying infrastructure like dbus does not handle this gracefully and then nm- applet connects to a different dbus than the running NetworkManager. This also explains, why a restart of NetworkManager resolves the issue. -- [intrepid] network manager has startup race https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293755 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 204988] Re: gscan2pdf generates blank pages in the .pdf output
> The scan looks all right, but saves as a blank page whatever option I chose for compression. In the --debug output, you scan a page, but do not save a PDF. Excuse me if I am stating the obvious, but you realise that there are two set of options on the save dialog, firstly the file type - i.e. PNG, JPG, PDF, DjVu, etc., and if you select PDF, then you can select the compression type, i.e. LZW, PNG, JPG, etc. > The only way I seem to be able to save output is to save the session, > then go into the gzip file and extract a .pnm file. I've had the same problem with 8.10 (both LiveCD and dual boot with WinXP) on a Gigabyte GA-MA74G-S2H motherboard with 8111C chip. After running lshw -C Network, it says Eth0 is disabled. Even after enabling Eth0 (not quite sure how, tried ~3 pages of commands!), removing Network Manager and editing the Interfaces file to Auto Eth0 and Auto inet Eth0 (I think, off the top of my head), still can't connect to the internet. [Bug 241973] Re: Use oga (Ogg Vorbis, audio) as the default extension extension for adding music to collection
That would be classed as a bug with your hardware, perhaps a firmware update is required. The ogg standard now primarily uses .oga for audio, and .ogg is kept only for backwards compatibility, see http://wiki.xiph.org/index.php/MIME_Types_and_File_Extensions . I too have a hardware player that recognises .ogg and not .oga, so I keep my files as .ogg as well (for now). I believe it's more important to adhere to the standards rather than keep using .ogg indefinitely, just to keep some hardware players happy. I suspect only a fraction of users with .oga files will have .ogg hardware players, and those that do would probably be aware why an .oga file doesn't work. -- Use oga (Ogg Vorbis, audio) as the default extension extension for adding music to collection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/241973 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry, This is working perfectly fine. I cleaned everything and installed only the linux-image-2.6.27-8 and Cheese works like a dream. Thanks a lot Stefan. This must go into the next version for at least fixing the problems with Cheese. However, I am still worried. I had to install some specific package from the backports (linux-backports- modules-intrepid) . I forgot the bug number, but it is on Launchpad for sure. [Bug 290506] Re: cheese malfunctioning with UVCVIDEO webcams (was cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards)
Stefan, I had a similar problem with cheese and I was unable to record video although my webcam takes photos and also works with Skype flawlessly. So when I wrote to Filippo and Daniel Seigel (Cheese developers) they directed me to this bug report. I installed the following packages: linux-image-2.6.27-8, kernel-image-2.6.27-8 and kernel-image-2.6.27-8-generic. When I boot up with the new kernel, I immediately have a kernel panic. If you can tell me how I can save the output on the screen anywhere I'll do that, but from what I see, the CAPS lock simply blinks repeatedly and nothing works. Not even Ctrl-Alt-Del. I am forced to only power off the system. It says something like "couldn't mount the file system". So I tried to install fs-core-modules-2.6.27-8-generic. This does not install complaining that it cannot overwrite the kernel object file and hence crashes. If I try to report the crash, crash reporter says that "It is not a genuine Ubuntu version"!!?? So the solution (kernel) proposed is not helping me. I guess this kernel package should not go into the next version of the kernel - unless I made some mistake and I have to install some other packages. What next? How do we fix the problem with cheese not recording properly? I can attach, lspci -vvn, and any other log files you ask for. [Bug 299340] [NEW] Evnice is missing keyboard shortcuts to navigate between form fields
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince There is no easy way to navigate between form fields in a PDF document. This can be particularly frustrating with forms that have a separate text entry for each individual character. I think [Tab] makes the most sense. The current behavior of [Tab] is not very useful at all. If Evince could detect single character form fields and automatically advance to the next field (a-la Adobe Reader) that would be ideal. Using Ubuntu 8.10, Evince 2.24.1 ProblemType: Bug Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/evince NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Package: evince 2.24.1-0ubuntu1 ProcEnviron: PATH=/home/username/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: evince Uname: Linux 2.6.27-7-generic x86_64 ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug -- Evnice is missing keyboard shortcuts to navigate between form fields https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/299340 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 241973] Re: Use oga (Ogg Vorbis, audio) as the default extension extension for adding music to collection
This is _totally_ broken. I have hardware that knows about .ogg but not .oga, so now when I rip songs with Linux they don't work on my music player. I am cluey enough to know that I have to rename them, but most people won't be - and will just assume that Linux doesn't work. -- Use oga (Ogg Vorbis, audio) as the default extension extension for adding music to collection https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/241973 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
