[Bug 327703] Re: DHCP Request Cycle can get caught in infinite loop

2009-03-11 Thread Simon Kelley
Simon Kelley here: I'm the principal author of dnsmasq.

I have a couple of questions for FactTech:

1) Was the text message in the DHCPNAK log entry the same as the initial
reporter's (address reserved)?
2) Is there any other dhcp-host line in the dnsmasq configuration which might
apply to the host in question?

If you can reproduce the bug easily, I'd really like to see the result
of turning on log-dhcp in dnsmasq.conf

Cheers,

Simon.

[Bug 327703] Re: DHCP Request Cycle can get caught in infinite loop

2009-03-11 Thread Simon Kelley
I think I've deduced what is happening here. The combination of the
dhcp-host line and the /etc/hosts entry generates the equivalent of

dhcp-host=name,192.168.X.X

When you run Ubuntu, the DHCP requests send the name, so dnsmasq find
and uses this line, and all is good.

When the machine was rebooted with the install disk, the name is not
sent. At DISCOVER time, the 192.168.X.X address gets offered, because
that machine (based on MAC address) already has a lease on the that
address. At REQUEST time, the address is disallowed, becasue it's been
set as a static address for another machine (remember, no name to match
the dhcp-host line.)

This hasn't been seen often, because most people nail down static
addresses using the MAC address.

Given that, this should be fairly easy to fix: I believe that

http://www.thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/test-
releases/dnsmasq-2.48test6.tar.gz

will do the trick.

Cheers,

Simon.

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2009-03-11 Thread Thierry Carrez
@toobuntu:
The _netdev option tells the system (if it doesn't already knows it from the
fstype) that the filesystem should be considered mounted on network (and
therefore be unmounted in umountnfs.sh rather than umountfs).

@Steve Greci (Seems when tracking down the cause of one bug, I encounter 3
more to that need to be fixed in order to solve it.):
I understand the feeling. That's part of why I said this bug is not so easy to
fix. Looks like your bug is solved in Jaunty though... so let's try if we can
completely fix it for that release :)

@Steve French:
Yes, there seems to be a major inconsistency between the way Gnome handles
files on network mounts vs. how NetworkManager handles the network. Thanks for
your analysis :) To mitigate the effects I agree we should hack umountnfs.sh so
that it always uses umount -i. Since that script is always run as root I
suppose there wouldn't be any wrong side-effects ?

@Bart:
I agree that the different network modes are poorly documented (and checkbox
behavior in n-m-applet to switch between them used to be very buggy). I am
still not sure I got them right. I guess Alexander could confirm if what I said
in comment 88 is indeed how it works.

@Alexander:
I think most of the users with wireless reporting failure are in use case (3)
described in comment 88, since it's the default N-M mode of operation. However
I agree wpasupplicant needs to be fixed as well, for the case where you would
run on wireless with a system connection (is that even possible ?). Looking at
wpa-ifdown though, it appears it already has some support for sendsigs omission
(at least in Jaunty), so that might not be needed. I need more time on this.

[Bug 82853] Re: Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay

2009-03-11 Thread Ian McMichael
I've only just noticed this bug report. For the last couple of Ubuntu
releases I've been patching and re-compiling the openldap (previously
openldap2.3) packages in my PPA as I use the smbk5pwd overlay.

If you'd like to make use of my work, add the following to apt's
sources.list for Intrepid:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ian-sigma-uk/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ian-sigma-uk/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

or for Hardy:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ian-sigma-uk/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ian-sigma-uk/ppa/ubuntu hardy main

Then import my PPA key with:

sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com
a94c744b25d20c39c0918ff595d65a6ae51162d2

To avoid any odd dependencies the overlay is in a new package called
slapd-smbk5pwd, which depends on the heimdal libraries. Hence you will
need to have the universe repositories enabled for it to install. When
you're ready:

sudo apt-get install slapd-smbk5pwd

You should now be ready to use the overlay.

Hope this helps someone save the time it took me to work it all out.
Maybe one day we could find a way of getting the slapd-smbk5pwd package
in universe so that it's available to all?

[Bug 292548] Re: nmbd -D uses 95% processor when there is not lan conection.

2009-03-11 Thread Ben Hodgens
I seem to repeatedly trigger this bug, just in my house (laptop w/
wifi/ethernet, on Ubuntu 8.10, samba package 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4). It
happens if the interface itself is lost, and it -may- also happen if the
IP is unassociated - I believe it depends on how your samba is
configured (subnet vs. interface name for interfaces = directive),
though I've not tested this 'solution'.

In my configuration (which Ubuntu was so kind to set up for me), that
configuration line looks like: interfaces = 127.0.0.1/8
192.168.0.0/24

I believe it might be possible to avoid this problem by changing that to
interfaces = lo eth0 (or what have you), provided your eth0 is always
assigned. Alternatively, I believe that if you were to simply comment
out, remove, or set the interfaces option null (just 'interfaces =').

Here is log outout from when this happens (nmbd.log) if anyone cares:

You probably have a bigger problem in your system if /usr/ was turned into

rather than a problem with the package. Is /usr really read-only? If it
is read-only by policy, you will need to mount it read-write before
upgrading packages. If it is read-only due to file system errors, you
should investigate possible hardware failure on your system.

If it's not read-only, then something even more weird is going on, but
probably at the dpkg layer rather than at the level of the krb5 package.

[Bug 341526] [NEW] Add support for Dell Driver Injection Disk

2009-03-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a private bug by Mario Limonciello (superm1):

Upcoming Dell servers will be supporting a new technology called Driver
Injection Disks. These are essentially read only flash drives that are
connected internally on the USB bus containing drivers preloaded from
the factory.

They are intended to be used during OS installation for an OS release
that doesn't yet include support for the drivers in a server natively.
RHEL and SLES have both adopted it already into their installers.

Here are the key points about it:
1) It will show up as a VFAT disk with the label OEMDRV
2) Drivers from many OSes may be contained on the VFAT disk at any given time.
This means that if a server is certified against Ubuntu 8.04, RHEL 5.3, Windows
Server 2008, and Ubuntu 10.04, that drivers will be on for each of these OSes.
Because of this, it's important to account for possible collisions. For Ubuntu
releases, this is solved by shipping Ubuntu drivers in:
$mnt/ubuntu/$(lsb_release -r -s). Drivers for Ubuntu 8.04 will not be offered
with Ubuntu 10.04 installs then.
3) This VFAT disk will always be exposed as read only to the user during
installation. Using Dell supported tools however, it can be injected with
updated drivers if the customer would like.
4) This option should be preseedable, so in the event that Dell was to ship an
Ubuntu server with Ubuntu preloaded, the drivers should be able to be installed
from the Driver Injection Disk in the factory.
5) When not preseeded, the customer should be offered the option to use the
drivers on the Driver Injection Disk, with the default choice being No.

[Bug 340655] [NEW] nvidia driver unsupported on kernel 2.6.27-13 intel dual core

2009-03-11 Thread Rustx
Public bug reported:

Since the kernel was upgraded, it is impossible to boot with the nvidia
proprietary driver, on ubuntu Intrepid. The only way to make the computer work
is to reboot on recovery mode and fix Xserver. That way, there is no graphic

[Bug 340652] [NEW] Jaunty desktop liveCD freezes on Intel iMacs on boot

2009-03-11 Thread Danny Piccirillo
Public bug reported:

I have been trying to test Jaunty on an iMac since Alpha 4. Now with
alpha 5, the same problems persist. I had 32-bit Intrepid installed
fine.

Trying to install Jaunty, i have used a separate partition, usb stick,
and live CD's. I tried both 32-bit and 64-bit Ubuntu.

64-bit doesn't seem to detect the keyboard (can't select language, etc),
but both boot as far as loading the mouse cursor, playing the start up
sound, and then the mouse cursor turns into the spinning thing and
freezes. The rest of the screen is black.

[Bug 340649] [NEW] When invoked from a remote X display, Rhythmbox streams only OGG files

2009-03-11 Thread Jim_mccauley
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox works perfectly when invoked from the local X display of the
system it's running on, and it plays and streams all the file types for
which I have codecs. However, when I open it up in an X window on a
remote display, it plays any local file, regardless of type, but it will
stream only OGG files. Attempting to play an MP3 internet stream
produces this error:

   Couldn't start playback
Could not determine type of stream

I ran a GTK stack trace but got only ordinary thread reports. Rhythmbox
does not crash on the error.

I can't tell if this is a Rhythmbox problem, something in gstreamer or
some configuration weirdness in X11.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04. Rhythmbox is version 0.11.5-0ubuntu8.
Gstreamer is version 0.10.18-4ubuntu2.

[Bug 340344] Re: [jaunty] Provide header files and .pc file

2009-03-11 Thread Hiroyuki Ikezoe
I have been developing a GUI tool for touchpad, GPointingDeviceSettings
http://live.gnome.org/GPointingDeviceSettings. It needs the header
files and .pc file. I think these files should be included -dev
package.

And there is no need to link against so file. Definitions in header
files just need for the tool.

Thank you,

[Bug 338205] Re: [jaunty] plasma crashes on start with SIGSEGV

2009-03-11 Thread Jeremy Kerr
Running krandrtray doesn't work for me - just tried this, and plasma
still crashes. I still need to edit the geometry settings manually.

I've shortened the process by keeping a 'clean' plasma-appletsrc file
for each possible monitor configuration (3: work, home, and laptop-only
modes). When the configuration changes, I just copy in the right file.
Kinda hacky, but sucks less than not having plasma working.

[Bug 339996] Re: gcompris freezes

2009-03-11 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
I sent a mail on the gcompris-devel mailing list on the topic.

=gcompris-devel

http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_name=1236720799.9709.55.camel%40brunoforum_name
=gcompris-devel

Basically Bruno Coudoin asked me to try without using compiz, and I
could confirm that the freeze also occurs when not using compiz, so
compiz is not the source of the problem.

When this was established, he said

OK, then go complain at your distro. This is probably an audio driver
issue. I am afraid there is nothing we can do.

Based on this information I'm not sure whether it makes sense to keep
the bug assigned to gcompris. Maybe I should assign it also to
pulseaudio or ALSA.

[Bug 340639] [NEW] interception of system() and option to set dynmic linker

2009-03-11 Thread chris23
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fakechroot

Fakechroot doesn't intercept the system() function. The patch replaces system()
from libc with a new version which calls into the execve function of fakechroot.
Furthermore the patch allows you to set explicitly the location of the dynamic
linker. This enables you to use fakechroot, even when the abi of the host
system is different from the chrooted system.
The patch is against fakechroot 2.8 in intrepid.

OK, Interesting. I had 0,0 as the config parameter for Separator

[Bug 340929] [NEW] only-ubiquity mode should start networking

2009-03-11 Thread Mario Limonciello
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubiquity

ubiquity version 1.11.16
alpha6 candidate disks from 03/11/09.

During the lifetime of 9.04 at some point the priority if NetworkManager
was reduced (likely to speed up boots). Unfortunately this has the
effect of resurrecting the symptoms of bug 277302.

Since NetworkManager's priority is after gdm, there is no place that the
ubiquity init script could be placed to ensure it started up after
NetworkManager.

I propose starting the NetworkManager init script from either the
ubiquity init script or ubiquity-dm.

[Bug 340936] [NEW] Allow different status' for different accounts

2009-03-11 Thread Danny Piccirillo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

This is something that hasn't even been implemented in Pidgin. It's very
simple compared to how complex it might sound. Simply keep the current
system for a universal status across all accounts, but add an option
per-account to ser a different status from the main one.

[Bug 340940] [NEW] Blank screen and incorrectly detected screen resolution with Mac Mini G4 and Radeon 9200

2009-03-11 Thread Luke Yelavich
Public bug reported:

 affects ubuntu/xserver-xorg-video-ati

When attempting to load X on a Mac Mini G4, with a Radeon 9200 chip,
32MB RAM, I get a blank screen, and my monitor's on-screen display
indicates a resolution of 1280x768 at 60Hz. I am using a 22 inch wide-
screen monitor, with a maximum of 1680x1050 at 60Hz. When running in
failsafe mode, the radeon driver appears to get loaded, so at lower
resolutions at least, things are working ok.

I am using the 2.6.28 ports kernel which I maintain, and so far as I can
determine, there is nothing wrong with the configuration of the kernel
regarding graphics/DRM, however I have attached the config here to be
sure. I am also attaching dmesg, lspci, and my Xorg log.
