[Bug 327703] Re: DHCP Request Cycle can get caught in infinite loop
Simon Kelley here: I'm the principal author of dnsmasq. I have a couple of questions for FactTech: 1) Was the text message in the DHCPNAK log entry the same as the initial reporter's (address reserved)? 2) Is there any other dhcp-host line in the dnsmasq configuration which might apply to the host in question? If you can reproduce the bug easily, I'd really like to see the result of turning on log-dhcp in dnsmasq.conf Cheers, Simon. -- DHCP Request Cycle can get caught in infinite loop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/327703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 327703] Re: DHCP Request Cycle can get caught in infinite loop
I think I've deduced what is happening here. The combination of the dhcp-host line and the /etc/hosts entry generates the equivalent of dhcp-host=name,192.168.X.X When you run Ubuntu, the DHCP requests send the name, so dnsmasq find and uses this line, and all is good. When the machine was rebooted with the install disk, the name is not sent. At DISCOVER time, the 192.168.X.X address gets offered, because that machine (based on MAC address) already has a lease on the that address. At REQUEST time, the address is disallowed, becasue it's been set as a static address for another machine (remember, no name to match the dhcp-host line.) This hasn't been seen often, because most people nail down static addresses using the MAC address. Given that, this should be fairly easy to fix: I believe that http://www.thekelleys.org.uk/dnsmasq/test- releases/dnsmasq-2.48test6.tar.gz will do the trick. [Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down
@toobuntu: The _netdev option tells the system (if it doesn't already knows it from the fstype) that the filesystem should be considered mounted on network (and therefore be unmounted in umountnfs.sh rather than umountfs). @Steve Greci (Seems when tracking down the cause of one bug, I encounter 3 more to that need to be fixed in order to solve it.): I understand the feeling. That's part of why I said this bug is not so easy to fix. Looks like your bug is solved in Jaunty though... so let's try if we can completely fix it for that release :) @Steve French: Yes, there seems to be a major inconsistency between the way Gnome handles files on network mounts vs. how NetworkManager handles the network. Thanks for your analysis :) To mitigate the effects I agree we should hack umountnfs.sh so that it always uses umount -i. Since that script is always run as root I suppose there wouldn't be any wrong side-effects ? @Bart: I agree that the different network modes are poorly documented (and checkbox behavior in n-m-applet to switch between them used to be very buggy). I am still not sure I got them right. I guess Alexander could confirm if what I said in comment 88 is indeed how it works. @Alexander: I think most of the users with wireless reporting failure are in use case (3) described in comment 88, since it's the default N-M mode of operation. However I agree wpasupplicant needs to be fixed as well, for the case where you would run on wireless with a system connection (is that even possible ?). Looking at wpa-ifdown though, it appears it already has some support for sendsigs omission (at least in Jaunty), so that might not be needed. [Bug 82853] Re: Add support for the smbk5pwd overlay
I've only just noticed this bug report. For the last couple of Ubuntu releases I've been patching and re-compiling the openldap (previously openldap2.3) packages in my PPA as I use the smbk5pwd overlay. If you'd like to make use of my work, add the following to apt's sources.list for Intrepid: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ian-sigma-uk/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ian-sigma-uk/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main or for Hardy: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ian-sigma-uk/ppa/ubuntu hardy main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ian-sigma-uk/ppa/ubuntu hardy main Then import my PPA key with: sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com a94c744b25d20c39c0918ff595d65a6ae51162d2 To avoid any odd dependencies the overlay is in a new package called slapd-smbk5pwd, which depends on the heimdal libraries. Hence you will need to have the universe repositories enabled for it to install. When you're ready: sudo apt-get install slapd-smbk5pwd You should now be ready to use the overlay. Hope this helps someone save the time it took me to work it all out. [Bug 292548] Re: nmbd -D uses 95% processor when there is not lan conection.
I seem to repeatedly trigger this bug, just in my house (laptop w/ wifi/ethernet, on Ubuntu 8.10, samba package 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4). It happens if the interface itself is lost, and it -may- also happen if the IP is unassociated - I believe it depends on how your samba is configured (subnet vs. interface name for interfaces = directive), though I've not tested this 'solution'. In my configuration (which Ubuntu was so kind to set up for me), that configuration line looks like: interfaces = 127.0.0.1/8 192.168.0.0/24 I believe it might be possible to avoid this problem by changing that to interfaces = lo eth0 (or what have you), provided your eth0 is always assigned. Alternatively, I believe that if you were to simply comment out, remove, or set the interfaces option null (just 'interfaces ='). You have been subscribed to a private bug by Mario Limonciello (superm1): Upcoming Dell servers will be supporting a new technology called Driver Injection Disks. These are essentially read only flash drives that are connected internally on the USB bus containing drivers preloaded from the factory. They are intended to be used during OS installation for an OS release that doesn't yet include support for the drivers in a server natively. RHEL and SLES have both adopted it already into their installers. Here are the key points about it: 1) It will show up as a VFAT disk with the label OEMDRV 2) Drivers from many OSes may be contained on the VFAT disk at any given time. This means that if a server is certified against Ubuntu 8.04, RHEL 5.3, Windows Server 2008, and Ubuntu 10.04, that drivers will be on for each of these OSes. Because of this, it's important to account for possible collisions. For Ubuntu releases, this is solved by shipping Ubuntu drivers in: $mnt/ubuntu/$(lsb_release -r -s). Drivers for Ubuntu 8.04 will not be offered with Ubuntu 10.04 installs then. 3) This VFAT disk will always be exposed as read only to the user during installation. Using Dell supported tools however, it can be injected with updated drivers if the customer would like. 4) This option should be preseedable, so in the event that Dell was to ship an Ubuntu server with Ubuntu preloaded, the drivers should be able to be installed from the Driver Injection Disk in the factory. 5) When not preseeded, the customer should be offered the option to use the drivers on the Driver Injection Disk, with the default choice being No. ** Affects: dell Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: hw-detect (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: mountmedia (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Add support for Dell Driver Injection Disk https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/341526 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I sent a mail on the gcompris-devel mailing list on the topic. When this was established, he said OK, then go complain at your distro. This is probably an audio driver issue. I am afraid there is nothing we can do. Based on this information I'm not sure whether it makes sense to keep the bug assigned to gcompris. Re: [Bug 254946] Re: Atheros wireless doesn't work on boot
Can you comment if you've tested installing linux-backports-modules- intrepid? If you haven't, please test. Thanks Yes, I have installed it. Until now it has been behaving just fine (i.e. no more rmmod/sleep/modprobe needed). As far as I'm concerned, this is a good workaround for the bug. Re: [Bug 254946] Re: Atheros wireless doesn't work on boot
I should note, though, that I had to manually blacklist the ath_pci driver. Otherwise that still got loaded first. -- Atheros wireless doesn't work on boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/254946 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
