[Bug 329976] Re: kernel-panic ubuntu 9.04
After this morning's updates, I am having this issue as well on a compaq x1000 presario laptop. Recovery mode works perfectly, but going to GDM insta-locks the machine the moment the greeter prompts for login. My reset button at that point is the only functioning keyboard item left, and I have NO time to see what is causing the issue before it locks up. I apt-get upgraded to the latest kernel as of 3-24-09 (mst), but this did not resolve the lockup. This machine worked perfectly prior to 3-23-09 updates. On reset, I can see an error listing something to the effect of HAL not loading but again, once reset is pressed, its only a second or so and the machine goes into the closing ubuntu logout gfx and then out. -- kernel-panic ubuntu 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329976 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 148454] Re: console-kit-deamon spawns too many threads
60 useless threads may not use much more memory or consume much more cpu on a modern machine. They do, however, use a significant portion of my resources. They consume almost 30% of my listing when I run ps -eLf and nearly 50% of my listing when I run pstree -p. They consume keystrokes when I have to add "| grep -v console-kit" to any process listing command I run to get an output that is digestible. And no, "use a pager" isn't an acceptable answer when I want to see a snapshot of what my system is running on one screen, which I can actually do if there aren't 60 threads fobbing up the listing. Yes, we generally have more CPU cycles and memory than we need most of the time, but screen real estate is still in short supply, as is people's tolerance for obnoxious things. Even if the console kit is operating properly and is actually designed to spawn this many threads, it immediately looks like a problem and people wonder what's wrong and whether it should be that way. There's no point in people wasting their time trying to figure out if this application is broken or gone haywire- especially when the application doesn't really need 60 threads. Whether you think it's a "real problem" or not, it is annoying to a lot of people, myself included, and that makes it a real problem. There is no reason this application should need to spawn 60 threads- if they're mostly idle and not really using resources then that just makes it *especially* true that we shouldn't need so many of them. Maybe it was a convenient hack to get the application released quickly, but it shouldn't be difficult (for somebody who understands the code) to change it to run without ridiculous numbers of threads. -- console-kit-deamon spawns too many threads https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148454 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug is missing critical information for us to further investigate the issue. Re: [Bug 317712] Re: nepomukservicestub crashed with SIGSEGV in QThread::isRunning()
Dear Beraru I quote the copy of the relevant website and suggest you to go thru the same for an answer: Nepomuk - The Social Semantic Desktop Information Society Technologies Project Objectives Human knowledge work mainly consists of the reception, interpretation and structuring of information, the explicit articulation of thoughts in suitable representations (like texts and pictures), and the sharing, exchange and discussion of such resources with other people. The way people proceed in this is heavily influenced by the tools they use: The personal workspace - and the personal computer in particular - support and reflect the individual ways of information processing, thought articulation, and knowledge sharing across social and organizational networks. NEPOMUK NEPOMUK's Goal NEPOMUK intends to realize and deploy a comprehensive solution - methods, data structures, and a set of tools - for extending the personal computer into a collaborative environment, which improves the state of art in online collaboration and personal data management and augments the intellect of people by providing and organizing information created by single or group efforts. Social Semantic Desktop This solution is called the Social Semantic Desktop. This enhanced personal workspace (the Desktop) will be Semantic since it will give information a well defined meaning, making it processable by the computer. It will be Social since it will support the interconnection and exchange with other desktops and their users. Desktop Aspect To build the Semantic Desktop, NEPOMUK's objectives are to develop the methods, data structures and services necessary * to annotate and link arbitrary information on the local desktop, across different media types, file formats, and applications. Semantic web data structures and techniques will be applied and adapted to achieve this goal. * to articulate and visualize the user's ideas and transform them into semantic information. We will extend easy-to-use wiki technology and integrate it with annotation mechanisms. * to integrate content creation and processing with the users' way of structuring their work. Key approach will be the integration of agile process modelling concepts with the information generation and structuring. Social Aspect To cope with the interconnection and exchange with other desk- tops and their users, NEPOMUK's objectives are to develop * tools for social relation building and knowledge exchange which support knowledge sharing within social communities. These tools will provide semantically rich recommendations, which allow members of a community to not only exchange documents and other isolated information chunks, but all relevant information about their context and the participating community as well. * techniques for distributed search and storage of information, based on scalable extensions of the distributed hash table technology and p-grid infrastructures, which allow efficient search over distributed information resources and provide a shared knowledge pool within a community. Community Uptake The idea of the Social Semantic Desktop will reach its full potential only if it is adopted and applied by a large and active community of people. The build-up of this community is a central objective of the project which will be pursued right from the beginning. In detail, our objectives towards sufficient community uptake are * to realize the Social Semantic Desktop as an open framework architecture with clearly defined interfaces which are published and possibly submitted for standardization; this will allow external adopters to integrate their proprietary desktop tools into the comprehensive framework and offers ways for commercial support and extension activities; * to reach early dissemination of project results and to interact with the open-source developer community; this will allow for the gathering and inclusion of feedback and development contributions form interested third parties; and finally * to prove the benefits of the Social Semantic Desktop in representative application areas which will stipulate the interest of possible industrial users and service providers in uptaking the project results. Main Results Main visible results are: * the architecture and implemented middleware of the Social Semantic Desktop, published as open-source software and where relevant submitted to semantic web standardization processes * an active scientific and user community that adopts the results of NEPOMUK and continues to extend them to their needs, * a set of reference solutions in use at SAP, PRC, or Institut Pasteur, and a body of documented experience and methodological know-how gained in their application domains. Core development results will be publicly available during the project via a webbased collaboration platform. The final architecture and toolset, together with representative

I can connect and register with IAX clients and with VoixPhone, I can seem to connect to a channel. (the CLI for asterisk shows I am connected) However, while kiax will register, I am unable to call with it, but it could be due to my setup. [Bug 345263] Re: Sync php-mdb2 2.4.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).
Hi, AFAIK, we have 3 options: - sync the 4 missing packages (php-mdb2, php-mdb2-driver-mysql, php-mdb2-driver-pgsql and php-mdb2-driver-sqlite) from unstable - Go back to 0.1.1-10, which is the previous version in Jaunty (and in etch backports), and try to patch the vulnerabilities marked as fixed in 0.2.1 - Try to patch 0.2 to use db instead of mdb2 the last option is not rally an option, as we will diverge from upstream and debian, and will require a lot of test to be sure everything is working fine. For option 2, here are the vulnerabilities that are referenced in the changelog of 0.2.1, and appears as fixed since 0.1.1-10: * Fix a vulnerability in the use of preg_replace (Closes: #508628). This is fixed by dont-use-preg-e-option.patch in 0.1.1-10 * Fix a vulnerability in quota image generation. This fixes CVE-2008-5620. Thanks to Nico Golde for reporting it. Closes: #509596. This is fixed by cve-2008-5620.patch in 0.1.1-10 * Apply fix for XSS issue (CVE-2009-0413). Closes: #514179. This patch can't be applied as the file program/lib/washtml.php doesn't even exist in 0.1.1. According to Debian bug #514179, this won't be fixed in 0.1.1 (as well as a lot of others vulnerabilities). * Version 0.2.1 Remove patch correcting a vulnerability in html2text.php. This is a 0.2 only problem * Version 0.2.1 Remove patch fixing login issue. This is fixed upstream. The patch log-failed-logins.patch can be adapted to be applied to 0.1.1-10, but what it really does is just logging the failed logins. ** CVE added: http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi- bin/cvename.cgi?name=2009-0413 -- Sync php-mdb2 2.4.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345263 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Have looked in logs but cannot find reference to what's going on. -- gnusound crash in Intrepid Ibex Beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/282939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 281882] Re: ssh hangs in initial handshaking when using IPv6
I have the same problem and it is quite simple to repeat even on your local computer: [~]$ssh -vvv localhost OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-5ubuntu1, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007 debug1: Reading configuration data /home/cowbud/.ssh/config debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config debug1: Applying options for * debug2: ssh_connect: needpriv 0 debug1: Connecting to localhost [::1] port 22. It will hang at debug1 for a good 5 minutes then continue on to IPv4. This is really a drag when I connect to a remote ssh server and forward a lot of ssh ports to random local ports. It makes sshing to localhost painfully slow. However if I ssh to 127.0.0.1 it goes immediately since it bypasses all ipv6 fun. -- ssh hangs in initial handshaking when using IPv6 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281882 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 337926] Re: vino: mouse cursor stays in upper left corner
** Description changed: Seen on Jaunty Alpha: when accessing the desktop using Vino, the mouse cursor is stuck in upper left corner of the screen. More detailed, I can move the cursor using the physical mouse attached to the Jaunty system, but as soon as on the other machine I move the mouse into VNC window, the cursor on the Jaunty machine is moved to upper left corner. Clicking with the VNC mouse works, though (it opens the Application menu which is in that corner). I haven't seen this problem on Intrepid, only on Jaunty. Also, it only happened on a fully-installed system (installed to USB flash drive), on an EeePC 701. When using the Jaunty Live CD (booted over network) on another system and also with a bigger monitor, the problem did not occur; so apparently it doesn't happen in really all cases. On the affected system, the problem occurs every time, however. Switching Compiz on or off hasn't helped so far. The problem also occurs with all VNC viewers I tried (krdc, vinagre, xvncviewer). This is with Jaunty Alpha 5 with all updates installed, using vino 2.25.92-0ubuntu1 . + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/PM/GMS/910GML Express Processor to DRAM Controller [8086:2590] (rev 04) + Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
