[Bug 367751] [NEW] irqstats is confused by 2.6.24 /proc/interrupts

2009-04-27 Thread Christian Kujau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: munin

This is basically just copying http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=463721

The irqstats plugin cannot handle the new /proc/interrupts format and
emits warnings on every run:

Argument shootdowns isn't numeric in addition (+) at
/etc/munin/plugins/irqstats line 62, $in line 18.

Since Hardy (LTS!) ships with linux-image-2.6.24, this (cosmetic) bug could be
worth fixing.
Upstream fixed this with a one-liner: http://munin.projects.linpro.no/ticket/598

Thanks,
Christian.

[Bug 367769] [NEW] freeradius init script not consistent with radiusd.conf

2009-04-27 Thread Julian
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: freeradius

I'm running the latest stable, Ubuntu 9.04. I installed the package
freeradius and freeradius-mysql, along with its dependencies.

It took me 8 hours to figure out why freeradius was not working! I kept getting
following errors:

Failed binding to socket: Address already in use
/etc/freeradius/radiusd.conf[236]: Error binding to port for 0.0.0.0 port 1812

r...@delta:/etc/freeradius# /etc/init.d/freeradius stop
 * Stopping FreeRADIUS daemon freeradius
 * /var/run/freeradius/freeradius.pid not found...

This made me think that freeradius was not running, and I wasn't able to
start it since the port was already in use, but could not figure out
where.

Eventually, I noticed that /etc/freeradius/radiusd.conf was using
/var/run/radiusd/radiusd.pid, while the init script was using
/var/run/freeradius/freeradius.pid

I changed the radiusd.conf file to use
/var/run/freeradius/freeradius.pid, which resolved the issue.

I guess this will be an easy one to fix. Am kicking myself for not
having noticed it sooner!

The package version is 2.1.0+dfsg-0ubuntu4.

[Bug 97513] Re: squid starts before resolv.conf is populated

2009-04-27 Thread Tobias Krais
Hi guys,

here my scenario: I have a local transparent squid and dansguardian for
content filtering issues working. I was not able to reproduce this bug
in Intrepid.

I started my Laptop and it worked. I established a VPN connection with
the Gnome Network manager and Squid reloaded automatically. So I was
able to use the new nameserver.

But now I upgraded to Jaunty. Since then, I have to reload squid
manually as soon as my network connection is established. When I
establish my VPN connection, my /etc/resolv.conf is modified and squid
does handle no more connections, even if I reload squid!

This is horrible for me. Is this a misconfiugration from my side? In
Intrepid, everything worked out.

Or is this not even a whishlist, but a bug?

Greetings, Tobias

[Bug 117736] Re: pam_mount unable to unmount needs root priv

2009-04-27 Thread Craig Szymanski
I tried a fresh install of jaunty. The pam_mount works for my LTSP
server if I logon to the server (Active directory member (Likewise) and
the mount points show up for each user and unmount on logout), but for
the LTSP clients it does not work. I've opted out of the pam_mount

Jaunty SRU Report

Bug impact: Prevents the default configuration to allow you to even start
FreeRadius.
Versions affected: Intrepid, Jaunty
Fix in development branch: Karmic is not open yet
Minimal patch: see attached file
TEST CASE:
$ sudo apt-get install freeradius freeradius-mysql
$ pidof freeradius
Expected result: freeradius should be started (so pidof displays its PID)
Regression potential: Since the default configuration file is not working the
regression potential is very low.

2009-04-27 Thread Steve Almond
Re-pointed to correct package

** Description changed:

Unable to log into Ubuntu 8.10 (server). Unable to log into Courier,
samba, or CUPS' secure pages. Unable to log in via SSH unless I disable
UsePAM in sshd_config. Single-user mode seems to work as expected.
Apache is still serving webpages, and phpMySQLadmin is working. Server
had been up c.75 days before today's reboots, and safe-upgrade'd daily.

Problem appeared to start yesterday, c. 1300 BST, when attempting to
print via CUPS/cancel print job in CUPS from an XP machine. Problem may
have been dormant for some time, but is now making my web/mail/file-

Boot appears normal (to me, anyway!). Ubuntu prints server version,
name, etc, and prompts for username and password as usual. Entering
username and password appears to work as usual, but the server version,
etc reappear and server prompts for username again.

From your log file:

Conflicts found! Please edit `/etc/samba/smb.conf' and sort them out

You probably failed to use the 3-way merge (which is a little
confusing). I'd recommend fixing that file by hand and running dpkg

[Bug 348126] Re: ssh are using ssh-userauth but ignores private key

2009-04-27 Thread Trifon Trifonov
I can reproduce the behavior reported by rancor, but using an RSA
1023-bit key. I have never had problems with ssh-agent before I upgraded
to Jaunty. I can still login using ssh -i mykey, but never with ssh-
agent.

When I tried to generate a new RSA 2048-bit key, ssh-agent worked
without a problem for it. However, when I generated a 1023-bit key by
using ssh-keygen -b 1023, ssh-agent fails again. I am attaching an
example key (without a passphrase). It would be great if someone can
confirm the problem for this key.

[Blueprint groupware-server] Groupware Server

2009-04-27 Thread Art Cancro
Blueprint changed by Art Cancro:

Whiteboard changed to:

2006-12+21 khaeru: might this be handled by the ubuntu-server-tasks spec?
é
21/12/2006 - I think we should pick an existing suite, i.e. hula and then
create the ubiquitous middleware to achieve what we want

13/07/2007 (stephan-impilinux) - We have recently evaluated a load of
these solutions and have some professional experience in it.

2008-06-07 (pixelpapst) - Just a quick reminder that the hula project
ist effectively dead since late 2006, and the community created a fork
called bongo project. However, by now they ripped out all of Hula's
LDAP connectivity, which makes this a very pretty but useless solution
for SmallBusinessServer.

2008-06-08 (Guy Van Sanden) Citadel seems a very good choice. IT offers many
features (including a Jabber server) and is completely GPL'ed.
The only caveat is that it does not have LDAP support (yet)

2008-06-19 (Art Cancro) -- yes, definitely go with Citadel. Ubuntu
packages are already being maintained, and the project would be
delighted to cooperate with the Ubuntu team on integration issues.

2008-06-19 (Todd Hanna) I would also like to give a big +1 to Citadel.
They already have the .debs and there is even a connector to use it as
an Exchange replacement if you have clients using Outlook. I have run
it without issue on Ubuntu server since version 6.06. It's head and
shoulders above the rest at the moment.. and it is easy to setup,
update, and maintain.

2008-07-08 (Stuart Cianos) - I'll also give major points to Citadel, and
have been a longtime user of it. It is the only open-source groupware
package that is self maintaining and straightforward to configure.

2008-07-09 (Stephan Buys) - Please also dont forget Kolab (Citadel
implements the Kolab v1 format). Kolab has 3 plugins for Outlook,
support Horde Webmail, Thunderbird/Lightning and Kontact.

2008-07-09 (Guy Van Sanden) RE Kolab - Kolab is not a full groupware
AFAIK, it does not have a web interface. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2008-07-09 (Christian Merlin) Remember also SOGo
(http://sogo.opengroupware.org/) it use LDAP for users and PostgreSQL
for database. So It could be easy to integrate with Ebox (http://ebox-
platform.com/). So Ubuntu can became an'easy and powerfull groupware
server like the commercial one.

2008-07-10 (Stephan Buys) Kolab does have a web interface (for admin and
email) through Horde (www.horde.org). Calendars, Contacts and Tasks can
be shared between Outlook/Kontact/Horde/Thunderbird

2008-07-10 - Personally I prefer bongo, however it is still in its
infancy. It has a great UI, and is targeted at being simple to install
and use

2008-11-14 - (Guy Van Sanden) Zarafa is becoming an option too. It was
AGPL'd recently and offers many features including CalDAV in the
upcoming 6.30 release.

2008-11-14 - (Stuart Cianos) Only the server-side components of Zarafa
were opened up... There are still numerous proprietary functions that
are unavailable in the AGPL version. There are plenty of completely open
solutions out there (Horde, Citadel, Kolab, etc.) Personally, I use
Citadel (with Funambol for push e-mail) due to its funtionality,
reliability, speed and flexibility... They also have a fantastic
developer/user community that is supportive and communicative.

2008-11-15 - (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart Cianos Actually most of it seems to be
in the AGPL version except for the client license required for Outlook usage.
Which is logical, if you are paying for closed source outlook you should also
pay for the connector...
I know about citadel, have been running it for 2 years but it does have some
issues and lacks certain features like LDAP integration.

2008-11-16 (Stuart Cianos) @Guy Van Sanden: Citadel will allow you to
authenticate against any service which support the underlying
authentication of the operating system (in this case, PAM). I have used
this to authenticate users against PAM using modules such as pam_ldap;
additionally, it can automatically populate an LDAP directory with
information from its global address book for use with external clients.

2008-11-29 (Giorgio Zarrelli) I do not see eGroupware, what about it?

2008-12-01 (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart: I tried PAM based authentication on
Ubuntu, but it only works with pam_unix and not pam_krb5 or pam_ldap for me.
Though I really like Citadel in many ways, it has too many limitations to use
it as a full-blown groupware server like Zimbra or Zarafa. Zimbra is nice, but
it really needs a dedicated server to run properly.
@Giorgio: eGroupWare is not a groupware server but rather a Web frontend to
other servers.

2008-12-01 (Giorgio Zarrelli) @Guy. I agree on Zimbra. It's too
expensive, not all people can afford a dedicated server just for a
groupware. Zarafa looks nice, but never tried it

Zimbra or potentially bongo are the prettiest of the groupware products
available which would make them great marketing tools for ubuntu.
However Zimbra has too many

[Bug 348126] Re: ssh are using ssh-userauth but ignores private key

2009-04-27 Thread sideshowmel
My experiences are as follows:
Ubuntu 9.04
Logged into GNOME as a user
copy existing id_rsa file to ~/.ssh/ and do a chmod 700 on it.
(Keyfile being used here is 4096 bit RSA)
open terminal and issue the following:
$ ssh-add
Returns: Enter passphrase for /home/me/.ssh/id_rsa: (or something to that
effect)
I enter the proper passphrase, then issue:
$ ssh r...@192.168.0.1
I am then prompted for the passphrase to open /home/me/.ssh/id_rsa again.
Every time.

In the past, issuing ssh-add meant the key's passphrase would no longer
be required for that session (That's how it worked in Debian Etch). In
Ubuntu 8.10, I actually never needed to issue ssh-add... the gnome
password manager just asked for it the first time and that's it. I
don't know much more about it or what more logs I can pull, but if
somebody would post the locations of any applicable logs I would be
happy to post them. Also, in case it is relevant, I upgraded to 9.04
from an existing 8.10 system, so I don't know if this occurs on new
builds, but it definitely occurs after an upgrade. Also I've tried this
as multiple users and have the same results. Thanks.

[Bug 368273] [NEW] Jaunty 9.04 Blind to XP's Shared Network Printer

2009-04-27 Thread Ed Comer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smbclient

I am using Ubuntu Jaunty 9.10 e/w all current updates.
smbclient: Installed: 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3

First let me state that the Windows Networked/Shared printer can be
utilized just fine by two other Linux computers on mine - (1) a Dell 910
Netbook running Ubuntu 8.04 and another computer running Xubuntu 8.10. I
print just fine from these machines, but NOT Jaunty 9.04.

There are a number of posts in GENERAL regarding Jaunty having various
problems with Networked Printers, but none quite like my problem. I feel
that this is actually a networking/SAMBA issue, so that is why I posted
it here.

When I try to add a printer attached to and shared on my Windows XP box
with System-Administration-Printing, New-Network Printer-Windows
Printer via SAMBA, Browse - I get right up to where clicking the little
gray diamonds should reveal a networked printer and Poof the dialog
crashes and is gone.

Note: Squirrel is the hostname of my Windows XP box.

If I browse Places-Network-Windows Network-MSHOME-SQUIRREL, the
Windows shares are seen but without a printer. Instead there is a
networked folder named Print$ which I suspect is the printer being
incorrectly recognized. I have attached an image of what I see in the
browse network window to my XP machine.

[Bug 368153] [NEW] Kerberos, NFS4 and autofs issue

2009-04-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 9.04 latest update.

When mounting the users home folder over NFS4 using Kerberos with
RPCGSSDOPTS=-n set in /etc/defaults/nfs-common a kerberos ticket is
acquired for the NFS service thus allowing for other autofs kerberized
mounts to work as well. However, if home is not on kerberos NFS (local)
and the user trying to access kerberized NFS exports after logging in, a
NFS kerberos ticket will fail to be acquired and the user must go
through several manual steps for kerberos to pick up an NFS ticket. This
is one way to do it:

$ sudo kinit
$ sudo ls -l /mountpoint

At this point the automount will still fail as now the kerberos ticket
is owned by root, however, if you change the owner of the ticket back to
the original user, automount will be able to mount/access the kerberized
NFS export. As mentioned at the beginning, this is not the case if the
users home is NFS mounted as it seems to trigger a function that will
automatically make Ubuntu acquire NFS kerberos ticket (machine
credentials?). Note I'm not using client keytabs in this setup.

I've added some verbose logging to this to try and figure out what the
issue could be but the strange thing is the logs say the same even if it
is able to mount: rpc.gssd access denied errors and failed to create
krb5 context for uid 0.

Is the mounting process by design? What triggers the mounts to work when
$HOME is mounted over NFS and why do they fail if it is not?

PS: this should be pretty easy to replicate if you have a working
krb5/nfs4/autofs setup, simply point the /home autofs to somewhere else
like e.g. /tmphome. Add RPCGSSDOPTS=-n in /etc/defaults/nfs-common and
restart.

[Bug 368153] Re: Kerberos, NFS4 and autofs issue

2009-04-27 Thread Russ Allbery
I'm not sure what package this is a problem with, but I can say with
some certainty that it isn't kerberos-configs. This package only
provides the krb5.conf configuration to find the KDCs and do other
library initialization.

This sounds like a bug in the NFS v4 userspace processes, if I
understand your bug report properly. Am I correct in thinking you
already have a Kerberos ticket but no service ticket for NFS is acquired
to access the NFS mount? If so, that means the GSS daemon isn't doing
what it should.

If the problem is that you have no Kerberos ticket at all, then I don't
think there's any bug here, just a configuration error on your system.
In order to let the user access directories in Kerberos-authenticated
NFS, you need to ensure that a Kerberos ticket is acquired for the user
before they try. This will require pam-krb5 be installed and configured
so they get a ticket at login.

[Bug 367742] [NEW] only execute mktexlsr/updmap-sys/... once per update

2009-04-27 Thread Jochen Eisinger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tex-common

I'd like to suggest to modify all tex packages in such a way that
mktexlsr/updmap-sys/... etc is only invoked once at the end of an apt
run (this would imho seriously speed up an apt-get install texlive-full
for example).

I'm reporting this bug to this package, since most of the postinst
scripts seem to be generated by dh_installtex which is included in this
package.

[Bug 338645] Re: linux freezes completely since 2.6.28-7

2009-04-27 Thread Aurius Bendikas
I have exactly the same issue like Martin on my T42 laptop.

RAM: 2GB
VIDEO: RADEON 9600
DISK: 60GB LVM2-EXT4
KERNEL: 2.6.28-11-generic

Unfortunately I can not reproduce the freezes they are quite random. I
get no response from machine. The only thing that blinks is bluetooth
indicator when I move bluetooth mouse :). I am not using any fancy
things. Turned off compiz, switched off bluetooth mouse. An I am also
reposting this ticket the second time because it got frozen while
eporting the first one :( It is impossible to reboot with Alt+PrtSc + (R
S E I U B O). Only 4 sec on power button brings it down.

I have similar configuration on my desktop mashine (RADEON 9600, LVM2 +
EXT4, 2.6.28-11-generic) and it works quite stable. That is why I
decided to upgrade to my most important work horse. Now it is almost
impossible to work.

I am a Java developer, and like Martin doing lots of Eclipse stuff :D
But I can not even get to that, because I need to setup WebSphere Portal
and this is failing for some other reasons I will not cover in this bug
:(. Please help just make my laptop stable, I need it to work.

fixture: i would suggest you open another bug for your issue, because it
is obvious that me and Martin are having something different than you.

[Bug 360905] Re: Network-Manager not seeing broadband card

2009-04-27 Thread dodo
Regarding the Toshiba G450, I forgot to say that it also works fine in
Jaunty, if you make the ugly hack of adding the device/vendor ids as
kernel parameters in /boot/grub/menu.lst (usbserial is not a module
anymore!?) and use a dialer, such as wvdial. However, NetworkManager
continues thinking there's no active network connection, so Firefox runs
in offline mode... :S

[Bug 367518] Re: Gnome Thrash is not working, deleted files and folders are not shown in Thrash

2009-04-27 Thread Sam K. Raju
** Description changed:

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 with ext4 filesystem as root and home partition.
If I delete any file or folder on my system (by pressing delete key
only), then that file is not shown in Thrash folder and is deleted
  permanently.

+ After I restarted the system and then all the previously deleted files are
visible in Thrash folder and if I delete any files now then those are also
shown in Thrash folder.
+ Seems to be like this is happening only for the first time after the
installation of Ubuntu and after a system restart, it works fine.

[Bug 367743] [NEW] Attempt to purchase album from Rhythmbox Magnatune store fails.

2009-04-27 Thread James Lewis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When selecting the Purchase Album option in Rhythmbox, an error dialog
is displayed which reads:-

Error
An error occurred while trying to purchase the album.
The error text is:
'module' object has no attribute 'split'

This was observed in UNR 9.04.

I'm reluctant to try different permutations, as this involves a credit
card transaction, but for that very reason I think it should be
investigated, and fed back to the plugin author as a matter of urgency,
because apps shipped with Ubuntu which process credit card transactions
should work... it gives a much worse impression when this type of
process fails than others.

[Bug 366529] Re: fglrx breaks graphics in 9.04; system won't boot

2009-04-27 Thread Bob Fletcher
More info on Fix that worked for me:
I have ATI 4870 card. I installed fglrx three times using system -
administration - hardware drivers.
Each time it broke my system and I had to use apt-get remove --purge
xorg-driver-fglrx to remove it so I could boot up.
The fourth time, I went to Synaptic package manager, chose Metapackages, and
reinstalled linux-image-generic 2.6.28.11.15 Then rebooted into 2.6.28.11 and
installed driver using system - administration - hardware drivers. For some
crazy reason, this time it worked perfectly. I have been using for a few days
now with no problems. The fact that this solution did not work for others made
me wonder why. I went to Synaptic Package manager and searched ATI. There are
several different drivers there. Here is what is installed on my rig, and is
working:
fglrx-amdcccle 2:8.600-Oubuntu2
fglrx-kernel-source 2:8.600-Oubuntu2
fglrx-modaliases 2:8.600-Oubuntu2
jockey-gtk 0.5-Oubuntu10
jockey-common 0.5-Oubuntu10
xorg-driver-fglrx 2:8.600-Oubuntu2
I tried a bunch of things to fix this problem, so maybe something I have
forgotten is also needed to fix it for others.
I also had trouble with Google Earth and ATI driver, but found links in Ubuntu
community to fix. Can't remember where, but it included screenshots, and some
code to fix the ATI bug for Google Earth. Emailing ATI next to request better
driver support.

[Bug 366775] Re: [Kubuntu Jaunty] : WPA2 not supported - Network plasmoid

2009-04-27 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 348275 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/348275

Bug #348275 goes in many directions, focusing on some specific WL NIC
drivers, or stating can't connect to anything but open networks, or
discussing the issue of having simultaneously 2 frontends to Network
Manager... which is not my case.

I opened a separate bug report because what I noticed is simpler both to
understand and describe :

- On 4 different laptops that I have upgraded from Kubuntu Intrepid to
Jaunty (final, not a beta or RC) :

- All having different WL NICs and drivers. All managing properly WPA2
with Knetworkmanager in Intrepid.

- All of them using the KDE plasma Network Manager controller in Jaunty,
all of them with Knetworkmanager removed.

- None of them supports WPA2 anymore using Plasma NM widget. All of them
still support WPA.

- Plasma NM widget doesn't even show a WPA2 choice in the encryption
choice box. So I suspect the issue to be either there or in Jaunty's
NetworkManager itself. I don't believe this to be an issue with any
specific WL NIC driver issue.

That's why I opened a separate bug report. I found the previous one was
going in too many different directions and it's thread of comments was a
really complex mess, where the description of the problem I saw on 4
different machines is rather simple and perfectly reproductible...

[Bug 367749] [NEW] graphics contents (esp. lists) not displayed correctly in different applications

2009-04-27 Thread K. Simon
Public bug reported:

see attached png file which is a screen shot from KMail. A similar
problem also occured in KSysGuard (process list). Sometimes the text is
completely unreadable since only a few pixels are shown. I can reproduce
this error now, but as soon as I try to take a screen shot, the (KMail)
GUI is rebuilt and OK afterwards.

I upgraded to KUbuntu 9.04 on April 24.

[Bug 367746] [NEW] switching users distorts graphics

2009-04-27 Thread ricardisimo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome

I'm on Ubuntu 9.04, running xserver-xorg-video-openchrome version
1:0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu1.

My computer uses a Biostar P4M90-M4 motherboard, and my graphics card is
a VIA Chrome 9 HC.

I log in, browse a while, go to the kitchen to get a snack, and come
back to find that my wife has switched to her user account. I mumble
under my breath for a while until she leaves. When I log back into my
account (and it doesn't appear to matter if I log her out or just switch
users) my screen is striated vertically. These lines aren't like video
noise, moving left and right - they are just there, completely still,
distorting the screen.

I log back into her account, and her display is pristine. THEN, I try
logging into my son's account, and his display is also perfect. OK,
fine... I log out of his account and go back to my wife's... and now
hers is also striated. So, it appears that only the last user to log in
has full graphics functionality with openchrome.

I reported something similar with this card several distributions ago
when the vesa driver was the best I could get, Bug #117638
[https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
ati/+bug/117638]. In that case, however, it was crucial that different
users had different screen resolutions. My wife, son and I now all have
the exact same resolution. Also, the striation appears on the login
splash screen after a few logins and logouts, which was not the case
before.

Please let me know if there is any further information I can give here.
I thank you, as always, for all of the good work that you do.

[Bug 367751] [NEW] irqstats is confused by 2.6.24 /proc/interrupts

2009-04-27 Thread Christian Kujau
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: munin

This is basically just copying http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=463721

The irqstats plugin cannot handle the new /proc/interrupts format and
emits warnings on every run:

Argument shootdowns isn't numeric in addition (+) at
/etc/munin/plugins/irqstats line 62, $in line 18.

Since Hardy (LTS!) ships with linux-image-2.6.24, this (cosmetic) bug could be
worth fixing.
Upstream fixed this with a one-liner: http://munin.projects.linpro.no/ticket/598

Thanks,
Christian.

jackweil, why are you pasting to this bug report? You don't have the same
audio hardware as the original reporter, and your Master element is muted.
Further, you haven't actually stated anything regarding what your bug

[Bug 351186] Re: [ubuntu 9.04 beta]slow unminimizing with ati card and desktop effects enabled

2009-04-27 Thread caller9
Confirmed here as well. AMD64 with HD3600 (vendor: 1002 device: 9596).

Visual effects were enabled at normal after fresh install with fglrx
installed via restricted drivers GUI. Rebooted just in case, visual
effects still running. Slow window restore/maximize/unmaximize.

From Appearances GUI I disabled visual effects and could not re-enable.
It gives a generic error Desktop effects could not be enabled.

If I run compiz from terminal window, it works. Still have slow window
restore/maximize/unmaximize.

It does give this warning when ran from command line:
/usr/bin/compiz.real (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12
image format

[Bug 298422] Re: [i945] [SVideo] TV Format changes don't work

2009-04-27 Thread Steffen
According to the changelog in the new intel-driver
(http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/), the problem
should be solved. - I have read, that other people had solved the
problem by compiling it and install it (the post from peioazkarate
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=993136page=2), but i did not
manage to.

I just hope that that the ubuntu-team will hurry up and put it into the
repositories soon. - Maybe in the meantime, some have the skills to make
a deb-package, and link to it here??

[Bug 366805] Re: [Jaunty] Upgrade to Jaunty = HDA Intel (ICH7) sound broken

2009-04-27 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
After exploring a bit the available models choices in kernel source's
Alsa source code (a pity it seems undocumented besides the available
models listed in the source code), I tried in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base.conf:

options snd-hda-intel model=eeepc-p901

Which seemed to be the closest hardware to what I have, but it didn't
help. Still no sound and few useless cursors in the mixer...

[Bug 147119] Re: network manager gives couldn't activate dialup service warning

2009-04-27 Thread nico
Same problem here like Benjamin Fogel.
I used gnome-ppp (still wvdial, isn't it?) in jaunty to connect through usb
modem in japan.
cause i couldn't get it working with wizard from networkmanager. Maybe it's
because we cannot set up init string and stupid mode using that wizard from
network manager, imo. FYI, it even killed my modem before when I used the
network manager in hardy to connect to the internet, took a week to have it
fixed :( That's why i don't want to use network manager anymore to connect
through my modem.
the funny thing is, this problem didn't occur in Ibex, I could just connect to
internet using gnome-ppp then pidgin can connect to my accounts too.
the only temporary workaround is to disable my account in Pidgin, then
re-enable it again. But it's so annoying.

So i wonder, which one is responsible for this? pidgin (and firefox,
etc), or network manager?

[Bug 367759] [NEW] preferences dialog for window picker applet is unnecessary

2009-04-27 Thread Dylan McCall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: window-picker-applet

At the moment, the window picker applet has a Preferences dialog with
exactly one preference: Show windows on all workspaces. The only thing
this achieves is putting that option two (maybe three) clicks further
away from the user.

Instead, the option to show windows from all workspaces should be
directly accessible from the applet's context menu until more options
are necessary.
