Thanks again for your attention to this.

[Bug 368403] [NEW] can't get access to Canon Powershot G3 via USB

2009-04-27 Thread GuteGelegenheit
Public bug reported:

I have a Canon Powershot G3.
When I connect it via USB Ubuntu 9.04 recognizes it perfectly as "Canon, Inc.
PowerShot G3 (normal mode)".
But when I click on the camera icon an error appears saying that it can't show
the content of the folder. Can't retreive folder list and -111 invalid filename.

I tried different CF-cards and formated them but nothing worked. I can
access the pictures through f-spot but can't copy them to my harddrive.
Other users in the german ubuntu forum who have the same camera are
reporting the same bug. It worked perfectly fine in Ubuntu 8.10.

USB card readers also work fine only the direct access to the camera is
not possible.

[Bug 368404] [NEW] [needs-packaging] Package handbrake: multithreaded video transcoder

2009-04-27 Thread feranick
Public bug reported:

HandBrake is an open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded
video transcoder, available for MacOS X, Linux and Windows.

http://handbrake.fr/?article=download

Supported sources:

* Any DVD-like source: VIDEO_TS folder, DVD image or real DVD
(unencrypted--protection methods including CSS are not supported internally and
must be handled externally with third-party software and libraries), and some
.VOB and .TS files
* Most any multimedia file it can get libavformat to read and libavcodec to
decode.

Outputs:

* File format: MP4, MKV, AVI or OGM
* Video: MPEG-4, H.264, or Theora (1 or 2 passes or constant quantizer/rate
encoding)
* Audio: AAC, MP3, Vorbis or AC-3 pass-through (supports encoding of
several audio tracks)

Misc features:

* Chapter selection
* Basic subtitle support (burned into the picture)
* Integrated bitrate calculator
* Picture deinterlacing, cropping and scaling
* Grayscale encoding

HandBrake uses a lot of (L)GPL librairies from the Linux world:

* liba52 (AC3 decoding)
* libavcodec (decoding, picture cropping, scaling and deinterlacing, MPEG-4
encoding)
* libdvdread (DVD navigation)
* libfaac (AAC encoding)
* libmp3lame (MP3 encoding)
* libmp4v2 (MP4 muxing)
* libmpeg2 (MPEG-2 decoding)
* libogg (OGM muxing)
* libsamplerate (audio resampling)
* libvorbis (Vorbis encoding)

[Bug 366023] Re: Can't upgrade to Jaunty - video card not supported any more

2009-04-27 Thread Tony Green
Hi Bryce,
My understanding from reading elsewhere is that this problem may be due to the
fact that there are problems with the ATI fglrx driver with the new version of
X being used in this release and that it isn't included in it for that reason,
hence why it needs to be removed.

I've added lspci output and the xorg.conf file - I can't do another run
attempt at the moment as I have to rush away; if necessary I'll try to
do that later, but if my understanding is right, there may be no point
as the problem is explained.

Cheers
Tony

That's what Sebastien reported as well. I think everyone else should
try this as well and check if it makes the freezes go away.

Bryce, do you think we could get out a test package which sets the

userspace hack to mess with xorg.conf for that).

Me too, and in early karmic we should rip it out again. I have tested
a ton of patches from Jesse since then (see upstream bug),
unfortunately we still don't have a perfect one yet, or even one which
is significantly better than the one we have currently applied.

[Bug 363661] Re: USB startup disk is corrupt afer using restart to end live-session in daily build of Jaunty

2009-04-27 Thread Steffen
Hello,

sorry for the late reply. I was quite busiy with rolling out the new
jaunty to all the computers I care for.

The USB stick has FAT16.
It is a Trekstore stick with 2GByte.
The behavior appeared on this stick no matter I created it with the latest
Intrepid USB installer, the Jaunty RC USB installer or Unetbootin using not the
default option but the OEM option on booting.

Now I tested it with the final Jaunty USB image copied with dd ... and
it has the same behavior. Booting a live session and restarting creates
a message Operating System not found. The boot menu to select the
language does not appear as well as any other message.

I have a Samsung NC10.
...
Oh, ok. Now I plugged the USB stick after rebooting out and it works. But I am
shure that before it was corrupted, because I tested it on my other notebook as
well. With plugging on and off.

Anyway, now it works, because the message says remove the boot media.

Maybe the USB stick is in a not allowed state while powered on.

Thank you for your help, sorry for any work I created!

Steffen

Re: [Bug 359173] Re: Random reboot without error on jaunty amd64 2.6.28 and 2.6.29

2009-04-27 Thread JustMe
Well I installed 32 bit, since the bug causes a reboot my logs will be gone
when it happens, so I can't help with 64 bit anymore. But I will check
my logs on 32 bit. See if the same happens there...
32 bit is rock solid... no problems... only wifi drops sometimes but is
seems that issue is already taken care of in the next kernel release.

[Bug 368384] Re: ac97 does not appear in user interface

2009-04-27 Thread Robert McMeekin
So, this patch to libvirt 0.6.1 makes it so that you can add ac97 to the
xml file for your virtual machine and run the virtual machine with ac97
support through virt-manager. The dialog box in virt-manager still
needs to be updated. (these are the relevant changes made to libvirt
0.6.2 that allow ac97 support).

[Bug 368397] [NEW] After closing a dialog, a switch to another full-screen application occurs

2009-04-27 Thread Torsten Bronger
Public bug reported:

Situation: Application A is in full-screen mode and not minimized.
However, I work with application B, which is not full-screen but in the
foreground.

B opens a dialog window. I close this dialog (e.g. by clicking on the
"Ok" or "Yes" button). Now, Ubuntu does not switch back to the main
window of B but to A. Thus, I have to use Alt-Tab to be able to resume
my work with B.

I use Ubuntu 9.04 with Gnome; any visual desktop effects are switched
off.

Hi all,

It seems that I am pretty new for this issue. But from a point view of
Ubuntu kernel team, we prefer to encourage Realtek or people like you
guys to merge the driver to upstream mainline. It is much easier for us
maintain the driver. And It looks like Jaunty kernel works fine for you
guys. If you can confirm that, I plan to set the status of this issue to
"Fixed in release".

[Bug 363868] Re: BIOS does not provide ACPI _PSS objects in a way that Linux understands, Foxconn A7GM-S 2.0

2009-04-27 Thread brian
I've encountered the same bug but I'm using the Gigabyte MA78GM-s2h
motherboard, AM2+.
For me I've only seen this if I've created a USB bootable 9.04 image using
either the Ubuntu USB Startup Disk Creator -or- the PenDriveLinux tools.

In either case, using same flash media and procedures, 8.10 and 8.04 USB
images boot fine. However, using Jaunty 9.04 the USB image starts to
boot, gets to the spash screen then crashes with this error and ends in
the BusyBox.

[Bug 368395] [NEW] Edit OpenVPN Connectionin Kubuntu Jaunty - multiple UI issues, is useless

2009-04-27 Thread WalterNicholls
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-openvpn

Can't even get off the starting blocks with this one!

Computer- Kubuntu 64-bit, originally Hardy then upgraded a week ago
through Intrepid to Jaunty. OpenVPN connection through the little
applet worked in Hardy.

dpkg -s shows:
  network-manager: 0.7.1~rc4.1.cf199a964-0ubuntu2
  network-manager-kde 1:0.7svn864988-0ubuntu8
  network-manager-openvpn: 0.7.1~rc4.1.20090323+bzr27-0ubuntu2
  networkstatus: 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu1~hardy3.1(relevance of this?)
  plasma-widget-network-manager: 0.0+svn930811-0ubuntu2

lsb_release -rd shows: Ubuntu 9.04 / release 9.04
uname -srmv shows: Linux 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:58:03
UTC 2009 x86_64

(This is I hope reasonably vanilla Jaunty with all available updates as
at 2009-04-28)

To reproduce:
 1. Right click NM applet on Plasma panel, Select "Manage connections"
 2. Go to VPN tab, select "Add" -> OpenVPN

Observed:
Connection name: "New VPN Connection" (remember this fact)
  Gateway: (blacnk, ok)
  Connection Type: X.509 Certificates
CA File: __ + open file
  Username: __
  Password: ___

BAD #1: Connection type is X.509 certs but it is asking for username and
password? If you select a different connection type (eg preshared key) then
back to X.509 certs, then appears as expected:

  CA File: ___ [file button]
  Certificate: __ [file button]
  Key: ___ [file button]

So anyway
3. Toggle the connection type to get the right boxes, Set Connection name to
say "Test One"
, gateway, and pick the CA Cert, user cert & key Save and OK out of the
4. Single-click on on network status icon
Observed:
Under "VPN Connections" heading is "Test One" - so far ok.

5. Right click on network status icon and select "Manage Connections",
VPN tab, select Test One, and click EDIT

Observed:
Connection Name: Test One (OK) , Gateway: as before (OK), Connection type:
X.509 Certs.

But ... have CA File, Username and Password boxes again (BAD #1 again)

6. Change connection type to Pre-shared-key and back to X.509
certificates

Observed: CA file and (user) Certificate have come back to stored
values, but Key field is empty. (BAD #2)

7. Pick the key file again. Also change the connection name to "Test
Two", Click OK / OK out.

8. Single click on Network status icon

Observed :
Under the VPN connections, it is still listed as "Test One" (BAD #3)

9. Right click / Manage connections /VPN/ Test Two (as it is) / Edit
10. Go through all the rigmarole of ensureing the Certificate / key files are
set
11. Click on "Optional Information" tab
Observed: Port ___ [X] "Use default" is checked, nothing else is checked, all
other fields disabled (OK so far but...

12a. Uncheck Use default port - > Port # textbox does not enable
12b. Check "User cipher" -> combo box does not enable
12c. Check "Use TLS Auth" -> nothing changes
12d Check "Only use VPN for these addresses" -> edit box does not enable
 BAD #4

Summary
BAD #1 = Initial state of fields for Certificate files/credentials are wrong
(should match whatever initial connection type). On New and edit.

BAD #2 = Value of "Key file" apparently not remembered (may be symptom of #1,
but it remembers the others)

BAD #3 = popup from Network Status icon shows old name even if
connection renamed (not sure when it resets, restart of widget?)

BAD #4 = Nothing seems to work on the "Optional Information" tab

The combination of these pretty much eliminates any attempt by me to use
this to attach to my OpenVPN server. I can't even be bothered with it,
sorry. (I did write up this bug report though so hopefully the last hour
is not completely wasted).

I still think that the simplest solution is what is state in the bug

This is not a bug, it's a misunderstanding. Notification-properties is
for Notification Daemon. Jaunty ships Notify-OSD by default, which does
not use that applet. You can get back to the old Notification-Daemon by
removing Notify-OSD or by installing and using gnome-stracciatella-

[Bug 359517] Re: kstars does not support indi

2009-04-27 Thread Jordan Mantha
One possible option would be to put noisymime's package in a ~edubuntu-
dev PPA and advertise it on edubuntu.org and the mailing lists. Frankly,
I'm not sure how long it would take to make kstars work with indi (0.5)
and neither Kubuntu nor Edubuntu really has resources for it. Putting
noisymime's know-to-work package in a PPA would be pretty trivial.

[Bug 368394] [NEW] netbook launcher mouse focus is off

2009-04-27 Thread Martey Dodoo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

I am using a ThinkPad X40 running Ubuntu 9.04 UNR. netbook-launcher
works fine with the keyboard (tab + cursor keys), but not with the
mouse. The cursor's focus seems to be off, so that icons that are not
underneath the cursor get selected. This only seems to be affecting the
horizontal axis. All other applications have no issues.

This issue also occurred when booting from a USB stick with the Ubuntu

[Bug 350370] Re: [jaunty] Intel WiFi Link 5100/iwlagn not working

2009-04-27 Thread Matthew Moore
Same or similar issue on an Asus N50Vn (WiFi link 5100) with a fresh
install of jaunty release and a WPA2 personal network. I would get one
"green light" in NetworkManager for a long time, and then NM would ask
for my password again. Looking at kern.log it appeared as if the
authentication nearly succeeded but then the module would hit a
microcode error. The same sequence would repeat several times in the
log before I was prompted for my password. It would however join
unprotected networks.

However, this evening I found a workaround; passing the module option
"11n_disable=1" to the iwlagn module allowed it to authenticate to my
802.11g network. I created /etc/modprobe.d/iwlagn.conf with the
contents

options iwlagn 11n_disable=1

Well, no.

iFuse is just like SSHFS. Both use FUSE, and fuse does not declare
volumes in HAL.

This fdi file is for when HAL detects the USB device. It is no
declaration of the FUSE volume.

[Bug 366678] Re: 9.04 fails to boot on HP DV2-1030US laptop

2009-04-27 Thread Dusty Reichwein
I also have an HP dv2 1030us and had the same problem booting the
install CD. It seems to be a problem recognising the external DVD
drive. Here's what I did to get the install CD to boot:

1 ) I changed the kernel boot options by removing "quiet splash" and
adding "debug break=mount".

2) Once the busy box prompt appeared, I waited for the CD to stop
spinning and unplugged the external CD drive.

3) I then plugged the drive back in, and it was recognized. The devices
/dev/sdb, /dev/sr0, and /dev/scd0 were created which weren't there
before.

4) Exiting from busy box will allow the cd to finish booting. I haven't
had a chance to try installing yet.

[Bug 312898] Re: libxxx-unstripped should also Provide libxxx

2009-04-27 Thread Chris Carlin
Ekiga doesn't use libavcodec directly, so just having libavcodec-
unstripped around isn't enough.

Instead, Ekiga's codecs are distributed as plugins built by libopal,
which has to be built against the unstripped-dev package.

bojo42 has packaged all of the codecs that he could (h264 and ilbc, see
his ekiga ppa) but he couldn't do h263 without unstripped-dev

[Bug 368387] [NEW] Obsolete Malayalam translations

2009-04-27 Thread Santhosh Thottingal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: language-pack-gnome-ml

Problem:
---
The gnome translations in this package is very old and wrong. It differs a lot
from the upstream GNOME translations. Rosetta translations are not reviewed and
not correct. Please take the translations from upstream or debian package.

Examples:
-
In 'Places' menu, 'Computer' is translated as CNET Computers.Com. But in
upstream translations it is correct
In Places menu, Network is translated as ചെമന്ന് തൊപ്പിശൃംഖല(meaning Red Hat
Network)
The 'Applications' in GNOME main menu is translated as പ്രയോഗങ്ങള് which has
spelling mistake
The Systems menu is വ്യൂഹവിളികള് -wrong translation with spelling mistakes.

Many wrong translations present in gnome applications too. Either because
ubuntu packaged very old translations or took translations from Rosetta instrad
of Upstream
All these are correctly translated in GNOME upstream

Since main GNOME menu itself has lot of spelling mistakes and wrong
translations, the ml_IN interface of GNOME in Ubuntu is useless

Ubuntu Version: 9.04

[Bug 368388] [NEW] Ubuntu 9.04 and Kubuntu 9.04 locale mess

2009-04-27 Thread _HG_
Public bug reported:

I have tested Ubuntu 9.04 on a laptop computer and Kubuntu 9.04 on a desktop
computer.
Both have a serious bug (most likely also the Xubuntu 9.04 have the same
problem). In both cases I choosed the Swedish language but after the
installation was completed and the computer was rebooted, the GUI was still
very English. Only a couple of words was in Swedish. It was not possible to fix
it in the settings. After a few minutes KDE crashed.

EXTREMELY ANNOYING ! ! ! ! ! !

As it is, the distro is useless ! ! !

[Bug 329896] Re: Pulseaudio network sinks overload CPU

2009-04-27 Thread Marcos
I tried all the posibilities and finally I found the solution.

With the default ALSA installed with Jaunty the Luke (themuso) PPA
doesn't work correctly.

Install the Luke (themuso) PPA together with ALSA updated to 1.0.19.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6589810

(AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.16.tar)

NOTE: Before use this script "AlsaUpgrade-1.0.x-rev-1.16.tar" you must
install the ALSA-LIBS
(http://ppa.launchpad.net/themuso/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/a/alsa-lib/alsa-
lib_1.0.19.orig.tar.gz)

Let me know if this help you.

Same problem for me (and thank you, Steven, for your answer to my own
question...I searched quite a bit but didn't find this bug or its duplicate).

lsusb was showing my usb hard drive, but the system wasn't recognizing
it as disk space (through blkid or fdisk -l) unless I unplugged it and
plugged it back in after startup. Adding usb_storage to /etc/modules
fixed it. This is ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic amd64. The same

[Bug 352766] Re: calling dd with block size > 2GB causes casper-rw not to be created

2009-04-27 Thread jruss
Sorry I missed that comment, I responded in that thread:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usb-
creator/+bug/321544/comments/11

To repspond to Pi Boy any changes you make to usb-creator will just be
overwritten during the update. It will replace the script with the new
one in the updated package, or maybe it would give a prompt asking if
you want to keep the file, but I doubt that. You are usually only
prompted during an update if it is overwriting a know user config file,
which the usb-creator script is not.

[Bug 321544] Re: Persistence Slider Wrong; Takes more than 3 hours to produce largest persistence file

2009-04-27 Thread jruss
I didn't actually apply these patches directly. I updated mine (0.1.15)
manually. Read the man page of dd. The size of the file that dd creates
is equal to the product of the blocksize and the count. In the 0.1.11
the block size is 1 byte and the count is 'persist' (ie the number of
bytes you wanted your persistence file to be). Having a block size of 1
byte was problematic and that prompted this bug report. Apparently later
someone decided to fix it but swung things to the opposite extreme. So
you see in 0.1.16 that now the blocksize is set to 'persist' (the size
you want) and the count is set to 1. So instead of a huge number of
blocks that are too small, now it is trying to make a single block that
is too large (dd won't allow > 2GB). To fix this you set the block size
to something appropriate like in the 1KB-1MB range for most common
cases, and then you calculate the count so that it gives you the
filesize you requested.

If you look at John Gruber's patch at the top of this bug report you see
this change:

popen(['dd', 'if=/dev/zero', 'bs=1024', 'of=%s/casper-rw' % target,
'count=%s' % (persist/1024)])

He set the block size to 1024 (ie 1 KB) and the count is set to
persist/1024 (ie the size of your persitence file divided by the
blocksize). That is why I referred to this thread in my bug report. This
patch for the old problem in 0.1.11 is correct and what is currently in
0.1.16 is incorrect.

program.

[Bug 359517] Re: kstars does not support indi

2009-04-27 Thread Jordan Mantha
The targeting for 9.10 means that it *should* be done before Karmic is
released. It doesn't really mean anything for Jaunty. The problem is, we
can't promote libindi0 or indi-dev to Main in Jaunty and we can't make
kstars dep on them either. So it looks like we need to figure out a way
to make kstars work with indi (0.5) in order to fix this bug in Jaunty.
