[Bug 363055] Re: Samba daemon will not start

2009-08-21 Thread Thierry Carrez
Not a bug in samba, then. It won't work if you give it a wrong configuration.
Note that this certainly originates from bug 378367, where
kdenetwork-filesharing rewrites smb.conf entries with file:// prefixes.

2009-08-21 Thread Lionel Dricot
Changing the title as Salik seems to report that it's not related to

Is there any news on this issue or anything we should test ? It will be
time to migrate to Karmic soon and we are still using intrepid packages.

[Bug 368273] Re: Jaunty 9.04 Blind to XP's Shared Network Printer

2009-08-21 Thread Kyle Sager
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 329974 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/329974

Bug still there as of 8-21-9 for Jaunty 9.04. Using the IP of the
shared machine would not work for me.

ANOTHER WORKAROUND: Ubuntu Main Menu Places
-Find the PC with the shared printer, and go into the shared print$
subdirectory.
-right click on any file/folder and choose Properties
-Highlight the location, right click, and copy
(on my network the directory copied was smb://PRINTER HOST PC NAME/print$/ )

You will paste this directory into the printer set-up dialogue.

In New Printer Setup:
  -Choose Windows Printer Via SAMBA
-In SMB Printer paste the complete directory you copied.
This time when you click Browse and begin navigating the triangles, the
directory will not bomb-out. Appears as though the pasted directory helps the
browser find its way. Worked well repeatedly as I had to reinstall drivers to
solve problems.

[Bug 417213] [NEW] Quagga wont bind to IPv6 [::0]

2009-08-21 Thread Fish
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: quagga

Quagga/BGP refuses to bind to the IPv6 address [::0] (accept-any-
incoming IPv6) and insteads binds to the IPv4 address 0.0.0.0, which
prevents Quagga/BGP from processing any requests from IPv6 peers. This
is due to Quagga's listening code that assumes that Quagga is running on
a dual/seperate stack system, unlike the single-IPv4-mapped-in-IPv6
stack present in Linux. (http://www.gossamer-
threads.com/lists/quagga/users/17797). It shouldn't be too hard of a
fix, we just need to change Quagga to bind on [::0] only instead of
0.0.0.0 and [::0]

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 416802] [NEW] Update to xml-security 1.4.3 to fix CVE-2009-0217

2009-08-21 Thread Thierry Carrez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libxml-security-java

Apache XML Security (Java) is affected by the vulnerability published in
US-Cert VU #466161. See: http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/466161 for more
information. This bug can allow an attacker to bypass authentication by
inserting/modifying a small HMAC truncation length parameter in the XML
Signature HMAC based SignatureMethod algorithms.

Upgrading to 1.4.3 will fix this.

[Bug 121737] Re: Resume after hibernate or suspend triggered by Actions button dialog in Xubuntu doesn't ask password

2009-08-21 Thread Christoph
The developer in the Xfce Bugzilla
(http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4805) says that this should
not be dealt with as a problem in xfce-session. He suggests it's rather
a problem of either the power manager or the panel / the panel applets.

Power Manager:
I have discovered that my Xubuntu Jaunty shipped with the gnome-power-manager
instead of the xfce4-power-manager. Now I've installed the latter and
uninstalled the former, which produces the following weird behaviour:
a) If I suspend or hibernate from the Xfce menu or from the panel applet
action buttons, the systems resumes /without/ any password prompt.
b) If I suspend or hibernate from the context menu of the xfce4-power-manager,
I get a locked screen after resuming.

Desirable/correct behaviour:
On a system where automatic login has not been activate (which is my case), b)
is clearly the correct (i.e. safe) behaviour. However, people who have
activated automatic login will want a).
Of course the user can also be given the choice to change this, but it should
definitely be the default behaviour.

Conclusions (questions):
* Should the choice to ship Xubuntu with the gnome-power-manager be
reconsidered?
* Should this bug be reassigned one or more other packages?
(xfce4-power-manager? xubuntu? gnome-power-manager? xfce4-panel?)

[Bug 416359] Re: Totem playing Youtube videos error

2009-08-21 Thread gene
I can confirm this bug on all of my Ubuntus.: 2 9.04s and one 8.04. There is a
slight difference in the error message
Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file on
9.04 and
Could not open location on 8.04
If totem is launched from the terminal I get a similar to the reporter's
message.

A couple more things to mention:
1) It appears to be a recent problem, since I just recently noted this totem
plugin and started advertising it to my friends when installing Ubuntu on their
computers.
2) Totem finds videos in the search window with the right urls and shows their
previews
3) urls are correctly fetched, since one can copy them (from the search window)
and use the command
mplayer copied_url_in_quotes

I think that during some update (totems or related) urls are not handled
correctly anymore (like it wont work without quotes with mplayer )

[Bug 416806] [NEW] [karmic] command shutdown 0 results only with a warm restart in rescue mode

Public bug reported:

From the terminal (either the text terminal at Ctrl-Alt-F1 or from the

As the result the system starts closing, display switches to text mode,
for about 10 seconds there are some problems with killing some process.
Then the system does not power down; instead a warm restart occurs

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

After either moving messages from the 'sent' folder or deleting them they are
marked as deleted by showing as 'over-striked'. OK. But I can then not
expunge these messages from the 'sent' folder. How do I effect the expunge
operation? It did until very recently work fine. Expunge still works fine on

[Bug 315555] Re: (NVidia) Hardware Drivers is empty

2009-08-21 Thread Stilor
Same with Kubuntu 9.10 alpha 4; Alberto Milone's workaround helped (I
actually figured it out myself, but did a slightly different thing -
before running System - Hardware Drivers I killed jockey-backend and
restarted it manually, as root, with the same options.

[Bug 91786] Re: Compiz's Panel shadows show on top of other windows

2009-08-21 Thread mac_v
Assigning this to Travis after discussing with him.

An FYI to all , We have 2 options:
1: ask upstream to hack the shadows appropriately [tough]
2: Let Ubuntu carry a small hack on its own [easier] ;)

If anyone can convince upstream to fix this , it would be better . You
can get more of their attention on irc rather than bug reports ! Thanx
in advance.

[Bug 317094] Re: result of command lshal

2009-08-21 Thread Ibagus
** Summary changed:

- evtouch meta bug to collect lshal info
+ result of command lshal

** Description changed:

- This bug is used to collect the lshal info people are asked to submit when
evtouch calibration fails.
- Formerly this collection was done via the ubuntu-mobile mailing list, which
is a subscription only list and the traffic of submissions from unsunscribed
people got to much of a maintenance burden for the list admins.
-
- All evtouch lshal output should be collected as attachemnts to this bug now.
- If people have assembled .fdi files from this data they should be collected
here as well, so they can be included in the package.

[Bug 416818] [NEW] Change the way Arora recommends installing extra multimedia packages

2009-08-21 Thread Victor
Public bug reported:

I posted this on KDE brainstorm
(http://forum.kde.org/brainstorm.php#idea74928) and Arora bug tracker
(http://code.google.com/p/arora/issues/detail?id=596):

After installing Kubuntu 9.10 and KDE 4.3 and running Arora, Arora
recommends installing additional multimedia packages:
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/562/1arorarecommends.png
Nice feature, but i would like to suggest to improve the way it does it.

http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/3374/2listpackages.png
Here it would be nice to have additional information about packages to
install. Now it just says For extra multimedia functionality select
restricted packages to be installed. It should mention that Arora asks for
this.

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/3669/3packageinstall.png
As far as i understand here you cannot change much - this window is not
manageable. But if it is possible - again indicate that the packages which
are isntalling right now are restricted packages for Arora.

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/2097/4sucessfullyinstalled.png[/img
And this window is really ugly. Again indicate what was successfully
installed.

After installing the packages and notifying about it there appears a
notification in system tray recommending to restart Arora to get new
functionality. I didn't manage to make screenshot - the notification closed
too fast (it would be nice to track history of notifications and jobs).
I think this notification should not appear if Arora is not running. And it
should say what kind of new functionality (new media packages) it is
talking about. But i would suggest to not make the notification. Rather put
this information in the window which notifies you about finishing
installing the packages:
http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/2097/4sucessfullyinstalled.png

2009-08-21 Thread Till Kamppeter
Plrease attach your PPD file, /etc/cups/ppd/PSC-750.ppd

After that, can you try the following:

lpadmin -p PSC-750 -E -m drv:///hpijs.drv/hp-psc_750-hpijs.ppd

Does it work now?

Do also (hplip-cups must be installed)

lpadmin -p PSC-750 -E -m drv:///hpcups.drv/hp-psc_750.ppd

Does this work?

[Bug 411560] Re: Please sync corosync 1.0.0-4ubuntu1 (main) from PPA

2009-08-21 Thread Ante Karamatić
Last version in Debian experimental is 1.0.0-4, but there are some
required changes which need to be introduced. I've already sent diff to
debian and they will most probably accept those changes later. Since we
are near FF, I think we should include this version and later sync from
Debian.

Packages that'll need rebuild are openais, pacemaker and redhat-cluster-
suite. Before we rebuild pacemaker and redhat-cluster-suite, we need to
have new versions of corosync and openais.

All requested changes are now part of 1.0.0-4ubuntu2. Added relevant
part of changelog added to the one from description:

corosync (1.0.0-4ubuntu2) karmic; urgency=low

  * debian/control:
- 'Ubuntu Developers' instead of 'Ubuntu Core Developers'
  as maintainer
- Bump debhelper dependecy to 7

[Bug 416784] Re: (Karmic) GDM fails due to missing /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket

2009-08-21 Thread Chris Coulson
Thanks, but that is not a bug. In recovery mode, DBus isn't started
automatically, so things that rely on it (eg, gdm) will not work
correctly.

[Bug 314227] Re: Can't empty trash

2009-08-21 Thread deivid
I did some tests with a POP address and I was not able to reproduce. The
problem is that I don't remember how I got to this situation. It may
have to do with having folders with the same name in outside trash,
but I'm not sure...
