[Bug 406466] Re: 2.6.31 - Can't see files in CIFS-mounted directories

Hi
I found out, that the problem may be my NAS, because I do not get any Web
access to it. So I will have to see first what's going on with the NAS.

[Bug 489418] Re: Strange behavior of libkrb5 since karmic ...

2009-11-29 Thread Fred
Hello, again... Looks like this problem has already been fixed in the
MIT krb5 developpement tree. The way they did it is more clean than mine
:)

So using my patch is only a workaround until Debian rebuild their
package against a newer krb5 release.

Re: [Bug 489111] Re: package python-libvirt 0. 7.0-1ubuntu13.1 failed to install/upgrade: podproces instalovanýpost-installation skriptvrátil chybov ýstatus 2

2009-11-29 Thread Honza Novak
Hi Jean-Baptiste,
I am sorry I am unable to follow your commands because I have chosen
another solution that worked for me. I have figured out that problem was
in /var/lib/dpkg/info preinstall and postinstall files (they had 0bytes
length and almost all related packages had the same problem) and when I
deleted them I was able to remove all affected packages. After that I
was able to install virt-manager properly.

I have also tried to install virt-manager on another notebook (Dell
E6500) with kubuntu9.10 and it was without any problem. Therefore it
seems that all problems appeared because of the system freeze. It
happened for the first time and I have absolutely no idea why it crashed
down.

Have a nice day,

Jan

[Bug 175689] Re: Share Folder in right-click menu does not share ntfs drive folders

2009-11-29 Thread Ruud
I also confirm this bug.
After changing the ntfs partitions in /etc/fstab from umask=007 to umask=000
and adding the line: usershare owner only = false to the global section in
/etc/samba/smb.conf my problem was solved.
But a normal user won't understand this at all, and we want to create a
userfriendly linux distribution right?

[Bug 490072] [NEW] KVM VMs loses their CPU (kvm84 backport/hardy)

2009-11-29 Thread Yann Hamon
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kvm

Using the KVM84 backport for hardy and the libvirt backport, it seems
that VMs regularly just lose their CPU. Can't provide much more infos
sadly, as the VM just stops writing to log files as soon as this
happens.

What I can provide though is a munin graph of when it happens:

http://waste.mandragor.org/kvmcpu/munin.html

The downtime at 2 in the morning was a reboot of the host (therefore
normal). At 6 o'clock though you can see the IRQs dropping and the CPU
just disappearing from the graph. The other thing I don't understand
is how munin continued working...

Rebooting the VM solves the issue.

[Bug 489859] [NEW] gedit-latex-plugin disabled if you use \input in your document

2009-11-29 Thread fjodor_d
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit-latex-plugin

If you use gedit with gedit-latex-plugin to typeset latex documents, you
can include the package \usepackage{pgf} to view pgf-pictures in your
document. But if you use the pgf-command \input{pic.pgf}, gedit-latex-
plugin doesn't recognize your document as a Latex document anymore and
all latex-options are disabled.

I think this is anyhow related to the command \input, as this may lead
gedit-latex-plugin to belief the document is written in any other
language.

gedit itself (not gedit-latex-plugin) DOES recognize the document as
Latex (as the highlighting is correct).

Thank you in advance for fixing that bug.

[Bug 489860] [NEW] fping broken in mixed ipv4/ipv6 environment

2009-11-29 Thread Matt LaPlante
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fping

I'm running a mixed IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack environment. fping seems to
work fine for ipv4 only hosts, and fping6 seems to work fine for ipv6
only hosts, but when a host can be found via both, it seems that fping
fails for one or the other:

r...@spooky:~# host firewall
firewall has address 192.168.1.1
firewall has IPv6 address fe80::2b0:c2af:fa6e:1ee8
r...@spooky:~# fping firewall
firewall is unreachable
r...@spooky:~# fping 192.168.1.1
192.168.1.1 is alive
r...@spooky:~# fping6 fe80::2b0:c2af:fa6e:1ee8
fe80::2b0:c2af:fa6e:1ee8 is alive
r...@spooky:~# fping6 firewall
firewall is alive

As you can see, in this example all the fpings worked except for the v4
fping based on dns lookup. It certainly appears that it's getting
confused by DNS returning a record for the host in question.

[Bug 489859] Re: gedit-latex-plugin disabled if you use \input in your document

2009-11-29 Thread fjodor_d
I now attach a minimal example file.tex.

As a workaround, you can
- start gedit
- open file.tex
- comment the line, where \input occurs
- close gedit
- open file.tex again
- compile the document

now it will compile just nicely. But of course, you would have to do
that EVERY TIME.

[Bug 482586] Re: After upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10, system locks up hard with kernel 2.6.31-14.48, works fine with 2.6.28-15.52

2009-11-29 Thread Andrew Piskorski
I just tried the newer Ubuntu 2.6.31-15.50 kernel. It also is broken on
this machine, but it's behavior is somewhat different. Instead of
locking up, it reboots the machine every time, before I even have a
chance to log in. Sometimes it makes it as far as playing the login
screen music before rebooting, sometimes it reboots before then.

(Btw, running the machine in this weird Ubuntu 9.10 state but with the
old 2.6.28-15.52 kernel is very much less than optimal. E.g., sound now
does not work at all, even though it worked fine before the upgrade.

[Bug 305546] Re: Nautilus crashing/freezing when opening folder with svg file

2009-11-29 Thread Manuel R. Ciosici
I am affected by the same problem. Nautilus hangs when entering a folder
with svg files and ff hangs as well if I try to upload the file. I can
open it without any problems in Inkscape. The bug started manifesting
yesterday, I didn't have any problem before that. I'm using 9.10 (fresh
install).

Previously, I was using Windows XP boot menu to boot Ubuntu.
Followed the instruction did restart one time.
I'm sure the menu.lst is intact.

I'm not sure what setting was wrong, but at first time boot up after

Now, I managed to reinstall from scratch. all work fine, and booting time is

[Bug 311869] Re: Add driver for Sentelic Touch pad

2009-11-29 Thread hansvschoot
I'm running a fresh ubuntu Karmic 9.10 (64bit) installation on my
msi-X340 and would love to get this driver working.

My problem is that although i've been using ubuntu for quite some time
now i'm not familiar with manual kernel rebuilding and hardcore
patching. I tried phil's solution and copied the psmouse.ko to the lib
folder (also the lib64 folder) but i can't seem to run the fspc file
from the sentelic sourceforge tar. double clicking it gives nothing,
starting it from terminal just gives a command not found (i am in the
right folder, and sudo-ing it doesn't make a difference). adding a ./ in
front of it gives a file or folder doesn't exist error.

what am i doing wrong?

[Bug 465318] Re: intel graphics laptop crashes with external monitor

2009-11-29 Thread Juan de la Figuera
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 408432 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/408432

I saw this marked as a duplicate of 408432 (marked with low
importance).

But again all that seems to be directed to Xorg problems. This bug
happens without Xorg (only virtual console is enough) (see #21, #25),
just when enableing the external monitor with toshset.

Should we open a new bug for this issue on Toshiba laptops?

Comment on Rob #28, I have also bad instability using nomodeset,
ususally a crash every couple of hours (everything freezes including
mouse, fan speeds up). This bug is making my computer unusable, and I
cannot trust it to give a talk.

2009-11-29 Thread Hypergod_2
you just have to stop gdm durning flickering screen in tty1 login
type
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop
then install nvidia drivers(not open source one)
if you have not downloaded drivers, boot from previous kernel and download them
then install drivers by
sudo sh NVIDIA.run ,or whatever is your driver package file name
then start gdm
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start
and you will get u your display back

[Bug 428519] Re: Unable to enable framebuffer modes with grub 2

2009-11-29 Thread l-x-l
Same problem. I've edited the appropriate file /etc/grub.d/00_header to
set gfxpayload=1024x768x16. Then ran sudo update-grub to update the
grub.cfg file. I then open the grub.cfg file to verify it is updated.
But when I reboot my computer I get the grub2 screen for OS selection,
choose Ubuntu, then all I get is a blinking cursor on the upper-left.

I too have a nVidia card. Using the depreciated vga=791 works.

[Bug 489863] [NEW] When Opera is running then Ubuntu freezes down.

2009-11-29 Thread Flad
Public bug reported:

Sometimes when Opera is running, it freezes down with whole Ubuntu as well.
Problem doesn't depend on neither number of open tabs (it happens when one tab
is open as well as when ten are open) nor the Java / Flash content of the pages
(it happens on text-based like wikipedia or sourceforge.net as well as java or
flash based pages).
The turning the computer off is only possible way to solve it (ctrl+alt+del
doesn't work).

I have no idea how to find something like bug report or so because of
necessity of the restart.

I am not good at computers, but I read that reporting bugs is usefull so
I hope it will help you.

[Bug 478134] Re: Totem silent in VMware Player after Koala upgrade

2009-11-29 Thread shanen (Shannon Jacobs)
Sorry I'm slow getting back to you on this. I sort of hoped it was just
the usual glitches (even though they're supposed to be ready to release
the software when they release it)... However, it appears the sound-
related problems are much more serious than I understood at the time,
and much more widespread.

With regards to your specific question, I can respond that all of the
sound-related applications are apparently unable to work with the sound
card. Probably as a result of one of the recent upgrades, it has started
emitting a few clicks from time to time, but there is no sound on a
machine that worked fine until the Koala upgrade. I wasn't using any of
the other sound applications on that machine, so it took me a while to
figure out what to test and how.

Since then I've tried the live Koala CD and a Koala upgrade on a
different machine. In both cases the sound is not working. These were
NOT using VMware, but actual hardware. The first machine with the VMware
Player is a Lenovo X61, and the other machine is a Sharp laptop. The
Sharp has always had a number of minor peculiarities, but has basically
worked well enough under earlier releases of Ubuntu, and there has never
been any problem with the sound card (on either machine, as far as I can
recall).

At this point my feelings towards Ubuntu are declining pretty steeply. I
don't have a lot of spare time that I want to spend trying to debug
problems with the OS... I regard Microsoft or Apple as clutching evils,
but I don't feel like Ubuntu is offering much of an option these days. I
guess I'll continue struggling with Ubuntu for a while, but I sure can't
recommend it based on my experiences with the last few releases... I
think I had some trouble with my first one, too, but that was a long
time ago and I figured it was just the normal learning curve, but these
kinds of crippling problems are just not going to work...

*sigh* I want to close on a constructive note, so I'll include a link to
the following alternative mechanism for funding the production of better
open source software, but I'm feeling pretty discouraged about all of
this stuff right now. I really hate using Microsoft garbage.

[Bug 489718] Re: Eclipse java package missing xml editor

2009-11-29 Thread Niels Thykier
Hi seasoned_geek

First of all; thank you for reporting this bug and your following effort
on tracing down the problem. I do appreciate that; most of our users
would have stopped at the first problem without as much as even
considering to report it. So truly thank you for that.

I have not actually tried to reproduce the problem but I know from
memory that at least a subset of the listed plug-ins are not indeed not
present in any eclipse 3.5.1 package in Ubuntu (because they are on our
todo list) and would not be the least surprised if indeed all of them
were missing.

rest of the eclipse team for that matter) can do about it.

Nevertheless, back to your original problem - namely the missing plug-ins;
eclipse.org offers 10 different downloads on their main download page. I
believe we have packed the eclipse classic download (near the bottom of [1])
- we did not choose classic because we believe that is all there is to
eclipse; but because rules dictates that packages in Ubuntu should be compiled
from source and this is the one eclipse offers as it source download.
In short - all of the files you are missing there (possible short of the first
5 or so) are what eclipse.org considers non-classic features which we have to
package separately.

We intend to package a lot of plug-ins once we are done getting eclipse
itself to behave - we are still experiencing some problems here and
there on the packager side. If you are interested we have a list of
plug-ins we have already written on our todo list at [2] - I do not mind
adding the ones you are missing here to that list.

A final note:
I read your comment#2 shortly after it was posted - after which I spent the
better of 40 minutes convincing myself that you were venting your own
frustration over the problem itself; and that you were not angry with me nor
the eclipse team itself.
Finally I decided to sleep on it before I posted here this morning - I would
have loved answer you 10 hours ago; but I deemed myself too upset to do so. If
you found anything in this post offending - please know it was not my
intentions and please do point out the statements, so that I can avoid them in
the future.

Thank you in advance,
~Niels

[Bug 489870] [NEW] Starting gimp via Numpad-0 opens a incomplete progressbar.

2009-11-29 Thread ManfredL
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gthumb

Starting gimp via Numpad-0 opens it correctly with the selected image. But in
the background remains a non-working progress bar.
I have to close is manually, eg via the cross button, which kills gthumb too.
Another way is to close gimp. That closes the progress bar too and gthumb
remains. So I don*t know, whose child the progress bar is.
Both ways are working reproducable.
