[Bug 508222] Re: Cannot install the package kvm under Ubuntu 8.04
The testdrive package is not available for Ubuntu 8.04: $ sudo apt-get install testdrive Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Couldn't find package testdrive It looks like you are installing the testdrive package from a third party archive. If that testdrive package was built for Ubuntu 8.04, then that testdrive package has a bug and your should contact it's author. If it was not built for Ubuntu 8.04 you should not use it. Either way, KVM in Ubuntu 8.04 does not have a bug. Your other problem with kvm-source is already covered by kvm-source having a Suggest dependency of the linux-headers package. ** Changed in: kvm (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- Cannot install the package kvm under Ubuntu 8.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508222 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 506116] Re: autofs suspend/hibernate script should be ported from apmd system to pm-utils
Here's a script I created that seems to work on my system for this purpose. I placed it in /etc/pm/sleep.d/80_autofs Of course, as expected, if any of the automounted shares are busy (any files open), it won't do anything for them. It's just a best effort attempt. ** Attachment added: autofs http://launchpadlibrarian.net/37969194/autofs -- autofs suspend/hibernate script should be ported from apmd system to pm-utils https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/506116 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to autofs in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 508510] [NEW] dpkg-reconfigure krb5-kdc doesn't request realm info
Public bug reported: When installing Kerberos with this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SingleSignOn#Overview%20of%20Kerberos or when running dkpg-reconfigure (I assume) it should request the realm (domain) of the kerberos server but doesn't when creating a new KDC it defaults to ATHENA.MIT.EDU without much info on the web about how to configure this in a simple way (documentation seems to assume an understanding of the kerberos terminology) it is hard to use this powerful server. There are many unexpained sections in the configuration that is installed with this package which makes trial and error unlikely to succeed with this security application. ** Affects: krb5 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- dpkg-reconfigure krb5-kdc doesn't request realm info https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508510 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to krb5 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 221269] [NEW] Selecting start a new shell to examine... then closing the shell caused update to freeze
You have been subscribed to a public bug: This bug was started by an automated bug reporting thing. I'm not 100% sure what happened, as this was during an upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy and a lot was going on. At some point during the upgrade, a dialog box popped up asking what I wanted to do about dovecot.conf. I chose to view the differences and determined that I wanted to do a manual merge. After hitting Next, it took me back to the list of options. Since there is no manually merge the files option, I chose start a new shell to examine the situation. It dropped me into a root shell inside the embedded terminal in the distribution upgrade application with no instructions (nothing like Edit /tmp/dovecot.conf.new to your liking, then exit the shell.). Not knowing what I should do, I hit Ctrl-D to log out of the shell. At this point, both the distribution upgrade application and debconf were frozen. The distribution upgrade application was still redrawing when something would obscure the window and then move away, but debconf did not redraw. I got to a terminal, did 'ps -ef' and looked around for what might be happening. This is what I remember seeing, which could be wrong: The distribution upgrade application had a child process: debconf. The debconf process had its own child process: ucf. The ucf process said defunct next to it in the 'ps -ef' output. I tried 'sudo kill -9 pid_of_defunct_ucf' but nothing happened. I then killed the debconf process and the upgrade app sprang back to life saying that something had exited with an error. I hit OK and the upgrade continued as if no problem had occurred. At the very end of the upgrade, an automated bug reporting thing popped up. Actually, three bug reporting dialog boxes popped up: one for dovecot (package dovecot-common 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: ), one for update-manager (package update-manager 1:0.87.24 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: SystemError in cache.commit(): E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)), and one for nautilus (nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV). After clicking report for all three, I got the following message in a dialog box: Could not install the upgrades. The upgrade aborts now. Your system could be in an unusable state. A recovery will run now (dpkg --configure -a). I hit OK and the distribution upgrade app closed. [Bug 508298] [NEW] grub screen freezes for about 10 sec
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub2 I have an ASUS M51A laptop, I installed (not upgraded) Ubuntu 9.10 with the grub2 package. When I start my computer the grub screen appeares, I can move with the arrowkeys, etc. But when I select Ubuntu, the screen freezes for about 10 sec, I can't move with the arrows, or anything, after 10 sec it begins to load Ubuntu. I installed the grub legacy package instead of grub2, with legacy everything works fine. I have a desktop computer too, which is working perfectly with grub2. So by installing grub legacy I have found myself a solution for this problem, but the update manager always lists grub2 with the updates, and I always have to uncheck it. [Bug 501678] Re: karmic indefinitely waits for nfs4-mount
Update for whoever gets here: I triet with bobootwait but it failed like I anticipated it. After some digging and source-reading I found out the following: mountall tries to mount the network volume and if it does not work, it will wait for the device by waiting for a SIGUSR. upstart sends SIGUSER as soon as the network device is availible. But this is too early. network-manager and dhcp have not completed to set up a working connection so the network mount will fail again. mountall will wait for SIGUSR again but nobody will send it until you remove and reinstall the plug to trigger upstart. So I added a sleep 5s in mountall-net and the problem was hacked away for me. -- karmic indefinitely waits for nfs4-mount https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/501678 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
