Yeah, i already did i think this link will do:
 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=963386

I created this more than a year ago, but it should still be very up to
date.

Everyone still reading the thread and following it actively should enjoy
whatever information on the topic posted there.

[Bug 520314] [NEW] Suspend to Ram doesn't come back on Dell m6400 in KUbuntu 9.10

2010-02-10 Thread Sean Halle
Public bug reported:

kernel 2.6.31-14-generic in AMD64 release of KUbuntu 9.10 on Dell m6400 quad
core with NVidia mobile graphics

When I select "suspend to RAM" from the application launcher, it
suspends successfully, as indicated by the fan stopping and the power
light slowly turning on and off.. however, when I hit the power button
to bring it back, it appears to resume, but the screen stays blank. No
combination of hitting keys, or touchpad, or anything else can get the
screen back on! End up holding power button down until it turns off,
then have to endure the filesystem being repaired and losing stuff (like
recent settings changes and desktop configuration) when reboot.

Been surfing the web, and it appears that this happens to many people
when go from 9.04, where suspend works fine, to 9.10, where it still
works, except if they do a clean install, then it stops working. This
is my first install of Linux on this laptop, so it's a clean install.

Possibly unrelated, the menu entry for "logout" and "restart" and "power
off" don't work at all -- I have to open a terminal and "sudo shutdown
-h now" to exit!

Note that the mainline kernels are not built with any of the ubuntu
customizations, so you may lose some features like this relative to
the ubuntu kernels (I guess you never found out if wlan worked with
Lucid's kernel -- I don't know if it does). If Lucid ships without
support for this chipset by default, I hope we can get a recommend
solution into the release notes.

[Bug 520312] [NEW] Sync gadfly 1.0.0-14 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2010-02-10 Thread Ilya Barygin
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

 affects ubuntu/gadfly
 status confirmed
 importance wishlist
 subscribe ubuntu-archive
 done

Please sync gadfly 1.0.0-14 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

  * Python 2.6 transition:
- Add --install-layout=deb.
- We install modules in /usr/lib/pythonX.Y/dist-packages against
  /usr/lib/pythonX.Y/site-packages (for Python 2.6).

Done in Debian as well, without assuming that python2.5 exists (which
causes FTBFS on lucid).

  * fix python2.6 install error (LP: #341057)

Same thing done in Debian.

Changelog entries since current lucid version 1.0.0-13ubuntu3:

gadfly (1.0.0-14) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fix syntax errors with python2.6. Closes: #37.
  * gfserver.py: Add import. Closes: #559374.

 -- Matthias Klose Wed, 27 Jan 2010 09:52:26 +0100

gadfly (1.0.0-13.1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix "manipulates site-packages/ directly, failing with Python 2.6"
Applied Kumar's patch and uploaded it. (Closes: #547820)

[Bug 519954] Re: Empathy cannot access MSN Live Messenger network

2010-02-10 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- This is a bug ad not a papercut.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the
papercuts project.

And Most probably a dup of Bug #392747

[Bug 520311] [NEW] Please sync acpi-support 0.132-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

2010-02-10 Thread Bhavani Shankar
Public bug reported:

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Please sync acpi-support 0.132-1 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Please sync the latest version from debian as it fixes some lp bugs and
as we are in lucid debian import freeze now.

Changelog since current lucid version 0.132:

acpi-support (0.132-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
- eliminate setLEDAsusWireless altogether; this needs to be handled
directly by the kernel when the kill switch is toggled, not in a racy
and inconsistently-applied manner by acpi-support; and in at least some
cases we know this already *does* happen because of reports that
/sys/devices/platform/asus-laptop/wlan, used for toggling "the LED" with
the current kernel module, is actually an interface for toggling *the
antenna* that happens to also toggle the LED. Likewise, we should not
be responsible for bringing up the antenna at boot, so get rid of the
  file in the start.d directory. LP: #293943, #204378, #334368.
- Remove the asus-wireless-2 event handler, which is completely redundant
  with the pre-existing asus-wireless-{off,on} handlers. LP: #207871.
- Add support for ATKD 0037 to events/asus-touchpad.
This makes the disable touchpad buttons (!) on the EeePc 1005HA work as
  intended. LP: #502720.
  * Allow gnome-screensaver as alternative to xscreensaver. (Closes:
#564442)
  * Do not remove conffiles that were later brought back and are
installed again. (Closes: #564455)

 -- Michael Meskes Sat, 09 Jan 2010 19:19:51 +0100

acpi-support (0.131-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * Cleaned up lsb-base logging usage in init script. (Closes: #563919) -
thanks to Jonathan McDowell
  * Downgraded dmidecode to Suggests because it is only needed on
Thinkpads.
  * Suggest rfkill and exit ibm-wireless.sh if rfkill is not installed.
(Closes: #564169)
  * Remove test for powersaved. The package got removed from Debian.
(Closes: #553643)

 -- Michael Meskes Sat, 09 Jan 2010 15:50:08 +0100

acpi-support (0.131-5) unstable; urgency=low

  * Made cycling through wireless and bluetooth states configurable to
some degree. (Closes: #527276)
  * Downgraded nvclock to suggestion because it is only needed for a few
systems. (Closes: #562883)
  * Made method for switching display on and off configurable. (Closes:
#555110)

 -- Michael Meskes Mon, 28 Dec 2009 23:08:35 +0100

acpi-support (0.131-4) unstable; urgency=low

  * Really install asus-wireless-wlan event file.
  * Re-added thinkpad-mute event handling.

 -- Michael Meskes Sun, 27 Dec 2009 11:39:56 +0100

acpi-support (0.131-3) unstable; urgency=low

  * It seems that on some Asus systems at least this script breaks
wireless completely. Therefore we remove it for now. If we find a
way to do it right on all systems we can re-enable it. (Closes:
#482349)
  * Made wireless control button work on Asus A3A and other similar
systems. In the process updated state-funcs to not use deprecated
/sys/class/net/*/wireless directory anymore. (Closes: #561953) -
thanks to Jakub Adam

 -- Michael Meskes Fri, 25 Dec 2009 14:23:17 +0100

acpi-support (0.131-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Switch off screen even if no user is logged in. (Closes: #503986)
  * Remove dependency on hdparm, finger, powermgmt-base because neither
is used anymore.
  * Recommend xscreensaver that is used to blank and lock the screen.

 -- Michael Meskes Thu, 17 Dec 2009 14:53:17 +0100

acpi-support (0.131-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Pinky prints "?:0" as tty so we ought to check for that too.
(Closes: #560804)
  * Do not try to modprobe uinput if it is already available. It might
already be (Closes: #556897)
  * New upstream version:
- events/lenovo-undock, undock.sh: new scripts to handle the Fn+F9 "undock"
button on ThinkPads, which unfortunately nothing else handles. Thanks to
Jeffrey Baker for the first implementation. LP: #18864. (Closes: #388160)
  * Re-added thinkpad volume key events. (Closes: #558009)
  * Patched asus-wireless start script to not disable wireless. (Closes:
#482349)

 -- Michael Meskes Wed, 16 Dec 2009 11:20:51 +0100

acpi-support (0.130-2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Made grep accept non-ascii characters. (Closes: #559911) - thanks to
Євгеній Мещеряков
  * Made screenblank use the right user to call xset. (Closes: #558216)
  * Made pidof use full paths where needed to prevent denial of service
attacks by local users.(Closes: #553643)

 -- Michael Meskes Fri, 11 Dec 2009 17:33:29 +0100

  * Fixed some typos.
  * New upstream version.

[Bug 480719] Re: OpenVPN connects but no access to remote network and then connection fails

2010-02-10 Thread wistle
I've since upgraded to 9.10, but my OpenVPN still fails. I tried a
couple of days ago and it connected but failed after a while, similar
than before. Looking at the logs the problem appears to be similar than
before. So hopefully the upgraded did not affect the bug and we can
still fix it.

Attached is the syslog of that event.

PS: the APIC errors have disappeard since.

[Bug 437990] Re: intel 4965 fails with 5ghz (karmic regression)

2010-02-10 Thread Pausanias
Same here on iwlagn, Dell Latitude 6400, Wifi link 5100.

These regressions have got me down on Ubuntu. Five years ago, I jumped
aboard with Hoary. I've run every version since. In every upgrade, there
were features I used a lot that worked in the previous version, but
which stopped working in the new version. Critical features, such as
this one. Next version, if this is fixed, it'll be the crashy NVIDIA
driver or kernel freeze bug again. Yes, I know. It seems the binary
drivers are responsible. Evil corporations and all that.

But I've had enough. Enough of this regression madness. I'm tired of
upgrading so that one regression is fixed, only to find another
regression in the newer version.

[Bug 520305] [NEW] normal text appears too light weight

2010-02-10 Thread grikdog
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

All text being displayed is a "light" version of the normal text. Fonts
should appear at the greater weight. The error produces irregularities
in kerning also. Annoyance is not a serious bug, but it seems a notch
above "cosmetic" imho.

The appears intermittently, and sometimes goes away if I log out and
back in.

2010-02-10 Thread duanedesign
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 509740 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/509740

Thomas,
Thank you for submitting this report and helping to make Ubuntu One better.
Sorry you are having problems. There is a bug filed for this bug 509740. Plese
see that bug report for a description of the issue and a possible workaround (
i have posted that here). Also make any additional comments on that report.

WORK AROUND

1. Quit the Ubuntu One client
2. Delete the file: ~/.config/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf
(If using Nautilus, make sure you do a Ctrl-H to view hidden files when in
your home directory)
3. Start the Ubuntu One client

You can try resetting the bandwidth usage preferences but if you
continue to run into problems, follow the steps above and don't turn the
limit bandwidth usage on for the time being.

thank you,
duanedesign

[Bug 520303] [NEW] Random bad behavior with dual-head system

2010-02-10 Thread jhansonxi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

On the second display of a dual-head (non-xinerama) system, Nautilus on
the second head will develop random problems. This includes not
responding to mouse clicks on tree expansion, toolbar buttons refusing
to work, and a constant busy mouse cursor. Moving the mouse pointer to
the first head and back again resolves the issue (usually). This never
occurs with a Nautilus session on the primary display, even when
Nautilus is active on both screens.

Please sync balazar3 0.1-6 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

We can sync the packahe from debian as they have merged ubuntu patch.

Changelog since current lucid version 0.1-5ubuntu1:

balazar3 (0.1-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * Don't depend on Python 2.5 and use the default Python: Python 2.4 is
not in Debian any more so we have at least Python 2.5. Thanks to Steve
Langasek. Closes: #562793.

[Bug 520298] [NEW] sound playback stops when a wine program is opened

2010-02-10 Thread Dave Gallenberger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine

I can't tell if this is an issue with pule audio or WINE.

I only have one program installed with wine, "verse perfect" it can be
found here: http://mcgill-english-dictionary-of-rhyme-
verse.software.informer.com/download/

The installation of "verse perfect" was fine, no sound issues then. As
soon as I launched verse perfect through wine, my sound stops playback
in rhythmbox, flash, system sounds, etc. I tried: [code]killall
pulseaudio[/code] this did not help. When i reboot the machine my sound
works fine again.

Also this bug is only with the 64 bit install of Ubuntu 9.10. I can not
reproduce the problem on a 32 bit install of Ubuntu 9.10.

I am on Ubuntu 9.10, 64 bit
WINE version 1.0.1

[Bug 75384] Re: xsane PDF file sizes could be optimized

2010-02-10 Thread Boris Burtin
I'd also like to see improved support of image compression when
generating PDF. When you're scanning multi-page documents as opposed to
art-work, small file size is more important than optimal image quality.

2010-02-10 Thread duanedesign
Andy,
Thank you for reporting this bug and helping to make Ubuntu One better. The
servers are experiencing some high load at the moment. The U1 team is working
to solve some issues to be able to scale more for Lucid. Things should be back
to normal (no delays) in a day or two.

Also i noticed you are running the 1.0.2 client. There is a newer client
available 1.0.3 that has many fixes in it. You can upgrade by going to
System > Administration > Software Sources.

thank you,

[Bug 520292] [NEW] Core i3 M330 Arrandale freezing on login

2010-02-10 Thread fishnuts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Similar to Bug #518201

I recently bought a HP Pavillion DV4 with a Core i3 M330 CPU/GPU. I
originally installed Karmic 9.10 but I had to use the VESA driver to
install and run. When using the xorg-video-intel driver my screen would
go black when GDM starts after bootup. However if I hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 to a
shell and then Ctrl-Alt-F7 then GDM would appear. I could type in my
username and password but the system would hang after pressing enter.

Then I installed Lucid 10.04 where I also had to use the VESA driver for
the install but both the intel and the vesa drivers would hang the
system after logging in from GDM. Then I found that if I entered a shell
(Ctrl-Alt-F1) from the GDM prompt and restarted GDM with "sudo
/etc/init.d/gdm restart" then I could log in to gnome just fine. The
intel driver seemed to be working fine until I tried playing Nexuiz or
Urban Terror. It seems like OpenGL was very slow and unstable.

I tested mainline kernel (2.6.33-RC7) and the issues still exist.

Re: [Bug 450499] Re: Random keyboard (and mouse) lock-ups

2010-02-10 Thread Pekka Niemi

Due to some other (bigger) issues I switched back to Ubuntu (ca. a month
ago). Since then, no problems.

  Best regards,

pen

[Bug 501037] Re: Cannot create a second desktop launcher on second head

2010-02-10 Thread jhansonxi
I'm seeing this behavior with directories or files created on the second
desktop. They disappear after setting the name (and doesn't show up on
the primary either) even though they are in the ~/Desktop directory.
