[Bug 279212] Re: network-manager gui - should place available wireless networks at very bottom of menu

2010-05-02 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I think this has improved in the most recent version, hasn't it? I
believe only the first X connections are shown, and further wifi
networks are in a submenu. Does that address you concerns?

[Bug 567195] Re: Crashes on startup with "IndexError: list index out of range"

2010-05-02 Thread AmenophisIII
i can confirm this bug.

in /usr/share/system-config-lvm/Multipath.py
system-config-lvm fetches the contents of /dev with "/bin/ls -l" (line 36 ff)
it then iterates over all block devices by searching for lines starting with
'b' (like /bin/ls -l /dev | grep ^b)
after that it tries to add the tuple ['/dev/' + words[9], words[4].rstrip(','),
words[5]] to an array, where words[0...9] are the respective words in every
line of ls output.
the problem is, that words[9] does not exist, because all lines do only contain
9 words (0-8).

if i change
block_devices.append(['/dev/' + words[9], words[4].rstrip(','),
words[5]])
to
block_devices.append(['/dev/' + words[8], words[4].rstrip(','),
words[5]])
system-config-lvm starts up normally and shows the partitions and lvm volumes
correctly.

im not sure how this could not get noticed early, but maybe the
multipath code is only called in certain configurations.

[Bug 572707] Re: gthumb freezes shortcut gimp

2010-05-02 Thread oddemirci
I got your point. I should have thought about that.

But, interestingly, on my machine the 0 key says
   gimp-remote %F &

It does not work. And I don't have any idea what is "gimp-remote". Because of
that, I created a hotkey like this
   gimp %F &

That solves my problem. But gThumb is problematic. For example, when I
switch to gimp, I see high CPU, and when I check, it is because of
gThumb. Although I don't do anything with gThumb, it uses 80-90% CPU.

Thank you.

[Bug 574192] Re: Japanese E-mobile D26HW (carrier customized Huawei UMTS modem) fails to connect (regression from karmic) in gnome-ppp

2010-05-02 Thread Fumihito YOSHIDA
Hi Rolf,

I want to clear up, my guess are:
 - You have D26HW.
 - E220 is not D26HW(is D02HW).
 - D26HW is E176 based customized device(may be). but lsusb said " your usb
modem is E220" :(
 - Huawei E220 and E176 are affiliated products.

# Notes: D02HW/D26HW has something modified by E-mobille, not only branded.
# IMHO, if we make no distinctions, we will get confusing.

And, Could you please test with
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/449394/comments/68
and network-manager ?

[Bug 574220] [NEW] [Analog Devices AD1984A] Recording problem

2010-05-02 Thread John Brondum
Public bug reported:

I've checked alsamixer - should be ok.

I've tried the backport for alsa - no luck.

There is 'Internal Audio Analog Stereo' device present in sound
preferences...

I can hear an echo from the mic feeding back into my laptop speakers, so
I'm sure it's not a hardware problem. But I'm unable to get
'Applications->Sound & Video->sound recorder' or 'Preferences->Sound' to
register any sound from internal mic.

[Bug 256749] Re: Unable to mount location -- Internal error: No mount object for mounted volume

2010-05-02 Thread Penny Wing
I was having the same problem with this error message.

Here's what I was able to do to solve it:

I went to System, then Administration, then Disk Utility, then clicked
on the drive, then clicked on the blue link that says: /media/disk

Pulls it right up and I was able to access all my files on that drive.
You can drag and drop them to your Places easily or copy them onto CD's.

Hope this helps =)

And I've only been on Ubuntu for 1 day ;)
Love this program, now to get rid of Windows =)

I'm not sure but I believe the number of notifications for network-

[Bug 573645] Re: Certain web pages cannot be opened

2010-05-02 Thread Fabien Tassin
This regression appeared at the worse time ever, i.e. when almost all the
builders were re-affected to another task, leaving a really long queue of
unbuilt packages behind (queue estimated to ~5 days, still growing).
Once the builders are back, this will return to normal.
There's nothing i can do in the meantime, except advise you to wait, rollback
to the previous version or switch to the dev or beta PPAs.

[Bug 574217] [NEW] when 2+ bluetooth devices - only one automatically mounted on start/wake

2010-05-02 Thread neferty
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluez

I got two bluetooth input devices:
- apple wireless keyboard
- apple magic mouse

Both paired successfully.

After each wake or start only one of them is automatically working. The
other one (although appearing as "connected" in the bluetooth indicator
applet) is not - you have to disconnect and connect it manually to get
it working.

This happened to the mouse first. After complete unpair/pair it's the
keyboard now (because it was paired as second in the process, i guess)
that has to be re-enabled manually.

[Bug 540801] Re: X server starts before Plymouth, or a very short time after (no or brief splash)

2010-05-02 Thread Nicola S.
Upgraded to Lucid a few days ago, and I got this problem too. I have an Acer
Aspire 5620, ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 graphic card with opensource drivers.
Just after grub i get a black screen with a blinking cursor on the top left
corner, and just before getting to the desktop (I have auto login) i see a
glimpse of splash screen and then white pixel stripes for another brief
instant, and then i get to the desktop.
I didn't try the fix in comment #2, probably it would fix the issue, however I
prefer to wait for an actual solution 'cause I agree with comment #67: since a
lot of Lucid users will be affected from this bug, and a nice boot experience
is the first impact with the newly installed OS, surely saving a few seconds of
boot time isn't worth that level of adverse user impact. I like a faster boot,
but I also agree that in this case priorities should be reevaluated. Waiting
for news, thank you all for the cooperation towards an always better system.

in the step of installation in 'Include latest updates from the

I chose NO

Still while at the 'fetching the packages' stage; it searches for the

It shows about 1943 packages to be fetched, It reaches to about fetched

[Bug 559892] Re: rhythmbox tries to control apple's mighty mouse

2010-05-02 Thread Martin Pitt
So, RB does not actually try to talk to it as a music player, but it
seems the act of checking _whether_ it is an MTP player already
distracts the mouse.

Can you please do the following: Close RB, detach the mouse, run

  udevadm monitor --udev -e

then attach the mouse and let the output settle. Copy&paste all output
(you probably have to scroll up). Now detach it again, open Rhythmbox,
press Enter some 10 times (so that you get enough free space in the
Terminal to see where the new output starts), attach the mouse again.
Let it settle, and copy&paste all the new output.

Finally, please attach /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Thanks!

[Bug 574212] [NEW] Nibbles - Unexpected Death

2010-05-02 Thread Luke Zeisset
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Running Nibbles (gnibbles) 2.30.0 on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid.

Number of human players: 1 (not tried multiple)
Number of AI players: tried up to 6
Playing game as normal.

I have experienced random deaths when:
1) No players, objects, or walls near me
2) Sometimes at the moment of eating an object.
3) When AI players eat a diamond (seemingly the consistent way to observe the
bug)

AI players seem to not be affected, even when there are no human
players.

[Bug 356075] Re: zoom key is not working (microsoft ergonomic keyboard 7000)

2010-05-02 Thread Martin Pitt
Please exercise the steps at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting to determine at which
level your hotkey problems occur, and attach the collected information.
Thanks!

It's very likely that the Linux kernel/udev actually know the key, but
it's a known limitation to X that KEY_ZOOM cannot be used in X (since
it's greater than 255). But let's check if the udev keymaps are right in
any case.

[Bug 554009] Re: Resume from disk (swapfile) fails

2010-05-02 Thread Moreno Bartalucci
Hello,

yes, PAGE_SIZE was one of my concerns too.
I just borrowed those few lines from karmic's resume script, assuming they were
correct.
In the meantime I got blkid source code and I made a small program which does
the same (check the device and prints the 'type' field) getting the page size
from the system through the getpagesize() function.
For some reason, anyway, it works in my system but it doesn't work in the
initramfs environment yet.
I need to investigate further on this.
I attach this small program so you can have a view on it.
I'll try to further reduce it and to check why it is not working in the
initramfs.

It's usage is: probe devname offset

Offset can be provided or not (if not it assumes offset=0).
It does the calculation getting the page size using getpagesize().

At home I have 100% Linux-Penetration.
In the office I also work on Ubuntu. - So I Ubuntu has a 100%
penetration for me.
But wait: I have a Virtualbox with Windows running because I need to
support customers using Windows.

How many percent is a daily-work-Linux-Box with a virtual machine
running Windows? Honestly one would need to consider working hours on
the particular OS, right?

I think in the transition phase a lot will work with virtual machines
or using Windows Terminal (or Citrix) Servers.

But for this bug it seems to be not relevant because what counts is
the preinstalled Ubuntu machines offered in shops. Maybe when filing
that bug people considered that would be achieved earlier than "real"
market penetration. I am not sure if usage penetration will not be
earlier achieved than penetration in shop offers. ;-)

Right, that's a known bug/limitation right now.

You should be able to add /dev/fd0 to /etc/fstab with the "user"

I have added the regular kde addressbook resource (with addressbook in
imap folder option) and suddenly my contacts show up and I can see in
akonadi console that the contacts were added.

I don't know why the kolab plugin itself didn't work, but at least I can
work normally now... BTW: I have started kmail twice again to get
akonadi to work without error.

[Bug 454371] Re: Hauppauge HVR-1600 Remote Not Detected

2010-05-02 Thread Kevin Worth
Updated from 9.04 to 9.10 and then to 10.04 today. Found that in both
newer releases my remote stopped working. Once I made it to 10.04, I
looked around and found this thread. Things look like they go back
pretty far, so perhaps things are in a better shape today, as I was able
to get mine working with no need for special builds.

My current kernel:
# uname -r
2.6.32-21-generic
(System was brought up-to-date today)

My old config (that worked on 9.04 and before):
# /etc/lirc/hardware.conf
#
#Chosen Remote Control
REMOTE="PVR"
REMOTE_MODULES="lirc_dev lirc_i2c"
REMOTE_DRIVER=""
REMOTE_DEVICE="/dev/lirc0"
REMOTE_LIRCD_CONF="hauppauge/lircd.conf.hauppauge"
REMOTE_LIRCD_ARGS=""

My new config (that works now on 10.04)
# /etc/lirc/hardware.conf
#
#Chosen Remote Control
REMOTE="Hauppauge TV card"
REMOTE_MODULES="ir_kbd_i2c lirc_dev lirc_i2c"
REMOTE_DRIVER="dev/input"
REMOTE_DEVICE="/dev/input/event4"
REMOTE_LIRCD_CONF="hauppauge/lircd.conf.hauppauge"
REMOTE_LIRCD_ARGS=""

dmesg output that let me know ir_kbd_i2c was looking good:
[ 1257.753138] input: i2c IR (CX23418 Z8F0811 Hauppau as

8001018f 02 green HVR-1100
800100ae 00 Back/edit HVR-1100

I think the codes for some things may have changed, as I believe
previously the codes were recognized as a PVR-350 (also note the typo
"Back/edit" not "Back/exit"). So it may require a little
editing/regeneration of key config and bindings, but overall things look
good.

[Bug 564984] Re: r8169 fails to autonegotiate speed/duplex

2010-05-02 Thread Robin Zhang
This bug also affects me. My hardware is:

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI
Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 03)
Subsystem: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express
Gigabit Ethernet controller
Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr-
Stepping- SERR- FastB2B- DisINTx+
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B- ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- SERR-
Kernel driver in use: r8168
Kernel modules: r8168

Yes, I have tried the r8168 driver from Realtek
(http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false),
the version is 8.018.00, but it doesn't work.

My workaround:
  sudo mii-tool -R ethX

Then ethX can work at 10 Mbps, link ok.
ethX: 10 Mbit, half duplex, link ok

[Bug 569900] Re: mount: mounting /dev/md0 on /root/ failed: Invalid argument

2010-05-02 Thread Alex Kuretz
I zero'd the drives using dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sd{a,b,c} bs=4k and
still the system will not boot after install completes, with the same
"mounting failed: invalid argument". I also have the md1p1 device as
does Dustin.

If I boot into Live CD or even Recovery mode off of the 10.04 Server CD
I can see and mount the md* devices with no problems. I do see that md0
is syncing.
