[Bug 436936] Re: gdm upstart job checks /proc/cmdline for single user mode, won't start on post-boot runlevel change

2011-03-18 Thread Erick Brunzell
Ah, disregard that last comment. I ended up here due to James Hunt's
request for testing at bug 735805 and I'd not taken time to read the
history of this bug.

Regarding Natty only, using the 'gdm.conf' provided by James Hunt in
post #20 "telinit 2" from a recovery shell does start gdm. Using the
officially packaged gdm.conf (currently gdm (2.32.0-0ubuntu12) natty)
"telinit 2" from a recovery shell does NOT start gdm.

Indeed selecting the Resume button does not work with either.

Sorry for my confusion.

[Bug 733233] Re: Increase shadow area to 45 pixels (but not grip area)

2011-03-18 Thread James Denholm
@Greg (#27) - Thing is, of course, that if it's not the active window,
and hence is behind a shadow, the content isn't going to be changing
much.* Hence, to update only upon switching to a new window and upon a
finalised window resize might be the optimal method.

*Well, sure, you could leave a movie running behind something, but if
that's the case you're not likely actively watching the film (hence,
exactly accurate representation of the content isn't really an issue).

[Bug 738014] Re: Sync feel++ 0.90.0-5 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2011-03-18 Thread Christophe Prud'homme
Hello

the 'life' package in Debian (also in natty) is deprecated and has been renamed
feel++ upstream. A new release of feel++ is available (0.90.0) has been
uploaded to Debian unstable and is available on amd64, i386, kfreebsd-*,
powerpc and ia64 flavors.
I have a launchpad account and I am ready to make sure that Feel++ is available
properly in natty.

The life package will be removed from unstable very soon.

[Bug 725327] Re: bash 4.2 does not save history (~/.bash_history) when using close window

2011-03-18 Thread Justin
All points here are well taken, and I will of course get used to the new
behavior.

That doesn't change the fact that that this was a large disruption to my
every day usage. I realize I'm just complaining now, but it seems there
should be a mechanism in place to inform users of substantial under the
hood changes like this that are very likely to confuse average users
such as myself. Yes, there is the ability to view changelogs, but those
are easy to pass over for standard updates. Besides, if I looked at
every change log, many of which I can't understand anyway, that's all
I'd do.

[Bug 738018] [NEW] Please sync feel++ from debian unstable

2011-03-18 Thread Christophe Prud'homme
Public bug reported:

Hello

the 'life' package in Debian (also in natty) is deprecated and has been
renamed feel++ upstream. A new release of feel++ is available (0.90.0) has
been uploaded to Debian unstable and is available on amd64, i386, kfreebsd-*,
powerpc and ia64 flavors.
I have a launchpad account and I am ready to make sure that Feel++ is available
properly in natty.

The life package will be removed from unstable very soon.

[Bug 738017] [NEW] uneven padding on dashboard left and right side

2011-03-18 Thread Robert Roth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntuone-control-panel

The left padding of the "Edit account details" button and the right
padding of the "Buy more storage and new plans" button are two different
(16px vs 4px), thus the latter button seems too close to the window's
right border. I suggest adding a left padding of 12 to the vbox
containing the services info to make it a bit cleaner. Small change, but
looks better. Check the attachment to see the dashboard before and
after.

[Bug 725580] Re: black screen on boot on radeon 9200

2011-03-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Alright, well black screen on boot issues that occur with kernel
modesetting but not userspace modesetting are kernel bugs. Too a more
actionable set of logs weren't collectable, else I could have at least
forwarded it upstream.

But now it sounds like a lot worse problems are at play, but they're
earlier on / deeper down than X anyway.

[Bug 48734] Re: Home permissions too open

2011-03-18 Thread Clint Byrum
Olaf, the point of the Opinion status is to allow discussion to continue
without attracting the attention of triagers who are trying to
categorize and/or reproduce issues in the New status.

So, to that point, the status should remain at Opinion until consensus
is reached, at which point it should move to status Confirmed, or
Invalid, but it should not return to New.

To that point, we should probably consider any bugs that are in the
Opinion status and have received a lot of discussion for UDS sessions.

We had systemic problems the other night that took a while to diagnose.
We apologise for the inconvenience.

Regarding speed of different versions, the lucid version unfortunately did have
performance issues with its sync
process. However, latest versions have significant performance improvements due
to a rewrite of the sync process. The
latest nightly builds of the client include more performance improvements.

[Bug 725600] Re: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected

2011-03-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Well, even with just one attached the log makes it pretty clear that
-nvidia doesn't much like your monitor.

Hmm, by chance does it work properly when you boot into Classic Desktop
(no effects)? Perhaps

[26.834] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID read for display device CRT-0 is
invalid:
[26.834] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): unrecognized EDID Header.

I assume it makes no difference whether you're running Classic Desktop
(no effects), vs. Unity? (Sometimes that makes a difference, but I'm
guessing not in this case.)

Not sure there's much we can do to help in this case, since the EDID
handling code is internal to the proprietary driver. For a workaround
you can try hand-crafting an xorg.conf either by providing horizontal
and vertical sync rates and your preferred resolution, or by providing
an edid override.

2011-03-18 Thread Doug McMahon
Hopefully it's been decided that install location and copyright have no
place in this ... (among others

For plain users that want some relief while this is being worked on -
ATM lintian is just a recommend of aptdaemon, if you don't need it otherwise
then just remove, aptdaemon will not error in it's absence.

If you do make use of lintian and are bothered by this than you can just remove
the section of code causing this in worker.py

[Bug 726142] Re: Wacom tablet mouse does not work properly when monitor set to vertical resolution

2011-03-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Susan, thanks no you've done enough testing.

For now, use xinput to manually rotate. We'll need to adjust the
controls to do this rotation automatically for your hardware. I think
we have a procedure for that. But I think we now have all the info
needed from you for that.

[Bug 738008] [NEW] cannot set nautilus to browser mode

2011-03-18 Thread maxubu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

As described in the nautilus help and also for example here
http://linux.about.com/library/gnome/blgnome6n3a.htm
you can set nautilus to be in browser mode by going to Preferences->Behavior
and setting 'always open browser windows'.

However:
1. why don't i have the menu item Applications->System Tools?
2. why does the Behavior tab not have the 'always open browser windows' option?

For the moment, i use the command line or a launcher with:
nautilus --no-desktop --browser
to be able to see the tree view on the left, but i don't understand why the
last time i saw the tree view on the left was before i clicked on the x on
Places while on nautilus in browser mode.

Same applies to option 'always_use_location_entry', which i would also
like to always be turned on.

How do i set those two options, 'always open browser windows' and
'always_use_location_entry' to be always on?

[Bug 737482] Re: Touchpad on Gigabyte T1005 not working without extra kernel parameter

bug #87262 is pretty ancient, I doubt it's at all relevant.

However, I do agree it's likely this is a kernel bug. I'll refile it
there; Chase can correct it if I'm wrong.

In any case, we still need to see your `sudo lsinput` output.

[Bug 730823] Re: Input device button/click not working on fresh Natty Alpha 3 install

2011-03-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi Andy,

Are you still experiencing this issue? There were a bunch of fixes to
the input stack the past couple weeks and I'm wondering if that might
have resolved it.

Fwiw, you may be right it's a kernel issue, although these can be highly
hardware-specific, so while you might share similar symptoms as bug
#582809 it may not be a dupe; especially since that one was filed
against maverick.

[Bug 728771] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in _XSERVTransClose

2011-03-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Have you had any other crashes like this one either before or after?

The crash occurs due to some invalid memory situation, but unfortunately
it's unclear why it's failing since the stacktrace consists of only a
single call. We did have some memory related issues a while back which
have since been resolved, so if you've not seen this crash lately and if
no one else files similar reports, perhaps the issue can now be closed
as resolved.

[Bug 58331] Re: fdisk doesn't write partition table

2011-03-18 Thread madbiologist
We never did get a lsusb output from the original poster, but if the
problem still exists in Lucid the Lucid 2.6.32-30.59 kernel may fix the
problem:

* USB: usb-storage: unusual_devs update for TrekStor DataStation maxi
g.u external hard drive enclosure

>From the upstream 2.6.32.29 kernel:

commit 255639227afcaff09a84ff2fc4cef8019f15c8c1
Author: Richard Schütz
Date: Wed Dec 22 14:28:56 2010 +0100

USB: usb-storage: unusual_devs update for TrekStor DataStation maxi g.u
external hard drive enclosure

commit 7e1e7bd9dbd469267b6e6de1bf8d71a7d65ce86a upstream.

The TrekStor DataStation maxi g.u external hard drive enclosure uses a
JMicron USB to SATA chip which needs the US_FL_IGNORE_RESIDUE flag to work
properly.

[Bug 616097] Re: Dell D600 + RTL8185L = livecd boot hang through 11.04a3

2011-03-18 Thread floid
Popping the card back into a happily installed system results in a
freeze somewhere just after the Radeon drm initializes and:

"* Starting AppArmor profiles";
"Skipping profile in /etc/apparmor.d/disable: usr.bin.firefox [ OK ]".

Thoughts on how to proceed will be appreciated.

[Bug 706688] Re: gthumb fails to launch

2011-03-18 Thread mastapat11
i'm using gthumb 2.13.1 on lucid 64 and get the same thing. It was working
like 1-2 days ago so i know this is new.
i tried to go thru my synaptic history, but i installed so much in the last 2
days its ridiculous (i wouldn't know which to begin listing). But everything
else (that i regularly use) is in good shape.

how can i trace this or get log files?
