Ah, disregard that last comment. I ended up here due to James Hunt's request for testing at bug 735805 and I'd not taken time to read the history of this bug. Regarding Natty only, using the 'gdm.conf' provided by James Hunt in post #20 "telinit 2" from a recovery shell does start gdm. Using the officially packaged gdm.conf (currently gdm (2.32.0-0ubuntu12) natty) "telinit 2" from a recovery shell does NOT start gdm. Indeed selecting the Resume button does not work with either. [Bug 738018] [NEW] Please sync feel++ from debian unstable
Public bug reported: Hello the 'life' package in Debian (also in natty) is deprecated and has been renamed feel++ upstream. A new release of feel++ is available (0.90.0) has been uploaded to Debian unstable and is available on amd64, i386, kfreebsd-*, powerpc and ia64 flavors. I have a launchpad account and I am ready to make sure that Feel++ is available properly in natty. The life package will be removed from unstable very soon. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/738018 Title: Please sync feel++ from debian unstable -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 48734] Re: Home permissions too open
Olaf, the point of the Opinion status is to allow discussion to continue without attracting the attention of triagers who are trying to categorize and/or reproduce issues in the New status. So, to that point, the status should remain at Opinion until consensus is reached, at which point it should move to status Confirmed, or Invalid, but it should not return to New. [Bug 725600] Re: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected
Well, even with just one attached the log makes it pretty clear that -nvidia doesn't much like your monitor. Hmm, by chance does it work properly when you boot into Classic Desktop (no effects)? Perhaps [26.834] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): The EDID read for display device CRT-0 is invalid: [26.834] (WW) NVIDIA(GPU-0): unrecognized EDID Header. I assume it makes no difference whether you're running Classic Desktop (no effects), vs. Unity? (Sometimes that makes a difference, but I'm guessing not in this case.) Not sure there's much we can do to help in this case, since the EDID handling code is internal to the proprietary driver. For a workaround you can try hand-crafting an xorg.conf either by providing horizontal and vertical sync rates and your preferred resolution, or by providing an edid override. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/725600 Title: nvidia EDID issue, wrong resolution selected -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 738008] [NEW] cannot set nautilus to browser mode
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus As described in the nautilus help and also for example here http://linux.about.com/library/gnome/blgnome6n3a.htm you can set nautilus to be in browser mode by going to Preferences->Behavior and setting 'always open browser windows'. However: 1. why don't i have the menu item Applications->System Tools? 2. why does the Behavior tab not have the 'always open browser windows' option? For the moment, i use the command line or a launcher with: nautilus --no-desktop --browser to be able to see the tree view on the left, but i don't understand why the last time i saw the tree view on the left was before i clicked on the x on Places while on nautilus in browser mode. Same applies to option 'always_use_location_entry', which i would also like to always be turned on. How do i set those two options, 'always open browser windows' and 'always_use_location_entry' to be always on? Hi Andy, Are you still experiencing this issue? There were a bunch of fixes to the input stack the past couple weeks and I'm wondering if that might have resolved it. Fwiw, you may be right it's a kernel issue, although these can be highly hardware-specific, so while you might share similar symptoms as bug #582809 it may not be a dupe; especially since that one was filed against maverick. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730823 Title: Input device button/click not working on fresh Natty Alpha 3 install -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Have you had any other crashes like this one either before or after? The crash occurs due to some invalid memory situation, but unfortunately it's unclear why it's failing since the stacktrace consists of only a single call. We did have some memory related issues a while back which have since been resolved, so if you've not seen this crash lately and if no one else files similar reports, perhaps the issue can now be closed as resolved. ** Summary changed: - Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV + Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in _XSERVTransClose ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/728771 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in _XSERVTransClose -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 578546] Re: wireless randomly disconnects
I have installed the latest kernel as asked, however, I am now having freezing issues. If I walk away from my laptop for any given amount of time, I return to an unresponsive desktop. The only thing that isn't froze is the mouse. Hotkeys do not work. [Bug 738005] [NEW] Sierra 308 Mobile Broadband cannot connect
Public bug reported: My Sierra 308 Mobile broadband used to connect to Ubuntu 10.10 without any problems, then one day it suddenly stopped working. The device connects fine in Windows so it is not a hardware problem. I have tried reinstalling Ubuntu, and both downgraded and upgrading the packages but nothing seems to work.
