[Bug 876959] Re: no mysql-server-5.1-dbgsym for security/updates repositorires

2011-10-23 Thread Martin Pitt
The ddeb archive is rather brittle, as it's not integrated in Launchpad,
but a horrible hack on the buildds. It seems the 12.10 ddebs are just
lost, so the only way to get them back is to do another upload of mysql
to lucid-proposed.

[Bug 880339] [NEW] AppArmor profile needs update

2011-10-23 Thread Jürgen
Public bug reported:

Bug #810270 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/+bug/810270
told me to report a new bug, so here it is.
I'm affraid the apparmor bug is not fixed yet for mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib
5.1.58, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64).
http://penguindroppings.wordpress.com/2009/07/07/should-i-disable-apparmor/ was
my help to temporary disable the profile for mysql to get things working again:
sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld
sudo ln -s /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld
/etc/apparmor.d/disable/usr.sbin.mysqld
sudo service mysql start
mysql start/running, process 3024

Before doing this, I got this from dmesg:
type=1400 audit(1319135491.751:5641): apparmor=STATUS
operation=profile_replace name=/usr/sbin/mysqld pid=2704

+ Debian enabled this optional feature when dnsmasq 2.58 was packaged. We are
currently in sync with Debian dnsmasq.
+
+ From dnsmasq 2.58 changelog. :
+
+ Add support for Linux conntrack connection marking. If
+ enabled with --conntrack, the connection mark for incoming
+ DNS queries will be copied to the outgoing connections
+ used to answer those queries. This allows clever firewall
+ and accounting stuff. Only available if dnsmasq is
+ compiled with HAVE_CONNTRACK and adds a dependency on
+ libnetfilter-conntrack. Thanks to Ed Wildgoose for the
+ initial idea, testing and sponsorship of this function.
+
+ 3. Security - There are no known security bugs:
+ https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvekey.cgi?keyword=conntrack (These appear to
refer to the Linux kernel itself. libnetfilter-conntrack has only existed since
2005.)
+
+ 4. QA -
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnetfilter-conntrack
+
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=nosrc=libnetfilter-conntrack
+
http://bugzilla.netfilter.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=product%3A%22netfilter%2Fiptables%22
(it's a bit confusing how this bugzilla works)
+
+ 5. UI - N/A
+
+ 6. Dependencies:
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/+branch/ubuntu/libnetfilter-conntrack/view/head:/debian/control
+ All dependencies are already in main
+
+ 7. Standards compliant 3.9.1
+
+ 8. Maintenance - We are currently in sync with Debian
+
+ Original bug report
+ ===
+ The latest manual sync introduced build deps which are not in main, and
therefore dnsmasq is blocked in dep-wait. Please evaluate if a MIR needs to be
raised, or if we need to carry a delta removing them.

2011-10-23 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi Dave D, error code 75 means that your hostname or /etc/mailname are
invalid.Check /etc/hostname, and /etc/mailname, and make sure it is made
up of just letters, numbers, dashes (-) or periods (.), and starts with
a letter only. Some routers and service providers give back invalid
hostnames when acquiring a dynamic address.

[Bug 880030] Re: oneiric container problem: missing /run/lock

2011-10-23 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

This is another side effect stemming from the fact that the kernel
doesn't provide a good way to detect poweroff.vs.reboot in containers
yet. The workaround is for the container parent to watch the
container's /var/run/utmp. As a result of that, we can't let the
container mount tmpfs on /var/run, because then the utmp used by the
container would be hidden from the parent. As a result of that,
/etc/init/mounted-varrun.conf does not run, and that is where
/var/run/lock is created.

This should be fixed in lxcguest.conf, which does the other ugly manual
recreation of things we want in {/var}/run.

[Bug 820715] Re: sudo poweroff -n within a container just hangs

2011-10-23 Thread Serge Hallyn
This doesn't happen with an oneiric container, nor with a trimmed lucid
container.

The difference between the two is /etc/init/ssh.conf. In lucid it has
'stop on runlevel S'

In oneiric it is 'stop on runlevel [!2345]', and trimming a container
(with the '-x' option to lxc-create) does the same thing.

I'm going to momentarily assign this to Clint so he can verify for me
that there is no way we would SRU a patch for ssh in lucid to change its
'stop on'.

Assuming he confirms that, we'll have to find a clever way for lxcguest
to force ssh to stop anyway.

This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault.
Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows
the state of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log
files may contain additional information about the problem.

If the problem persists, you are encouraged to first install the
samba-dbg package, which contains the debugging symbols for the Samba
binaries. Then submit the provided information as a bug report to

[Bug 880579] [NEW] fn keys reversed and touchpad not working on thinkpad x121e after awaking from sleep

2011-10-23 Thread Johannes Knaus
Public bug reported:

After first startup all works fine, but when I put the computer tp sleep and
wake it up again, the special keys (for volume, brightness etc.) do not behave
correctly:
They are normally accessible by Fn+F1, Fn+F2 etc. But after wakeup they are
accessible directly by F1, F2 etc., whereas the F1 and F2 keys are accessible
via Fn+F1 etc.
Furthermore in some cases (not always) the touchpad is not responsive any more
after wakeup.
Logging out and back in remedies the irresponsive touchpad, but the switched
Fn+F1/F1 keys persist until restart.

Running Oneiric-64bit on a Thinkpad X121e (AMD E350).

[Bug 880577] [NEW] Screen corruption, not recognizing integrated graphics card [Intel 915GV]

2011-10-23 Thread Amelia Hamrick
Public bug reported:

This corruption started up once I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10. It appears
to only affect the Unity interface, since any text or graphics appearing
in downloaded applications looks perfectly fine. I opened System Info,
and it says that my video/graphics card is unknown. My computer is an
HP Pavilion Media Center s7415c Desktop PC. Submitted an apport bug

information would be helpful. ^^;

[Bug 879969] Re: Sudden Loss of Sound

2011-10-23 Thread Penn Dant
Updated to pre-released repositories and still no luck with visual
confirmation of sound in the panel or the control centre showing audio
hardware in the sound settings. Did manage to get sound from flash
video and totem but not simultaneously and software volume control is
not available except with alsamixer only controlling whether it is mute
or not. Rhythmbox just crashes while trying to play anything. As has
been previously determined PulseAudio is the prime suspect as it is
unable to load the modules to correctly run.

[Bug 879158] Re: REISUB fails to reboot the computer.

2011-10-23 Thread Little Girl
I created a new user on the Kubuntu machine, repeated the steps that
cause the bug, manually rebooted the computer, and ran the apport-
collect 879158 command.

Yes, we always wait a few seconds after pressing each of the REISUB
keys.

We don't use SSH on our machines, and we don't own a test machine, so we
can't do your SSH commands. We can't do the upstream kernel testing for
the same reason. Hopefully you have test machines that demonstrate this
bug.

Please let me know if there's anything else we can do.

[Bug 875817] Re: who -q no longer counts gui users

2011-10-23 Thread DAP
That would only work if Light Display Manager was the only login
manager in existence, and everyone used it.

I need some way to distinguish between human interactive users that the
computer should not shut down on and automated sessions that the
computer can be shut down on.

The reality is though that I really should not have to do this at all.
Cron should be extended to handle the wake up timer, and handle the
decision on when to shut down the computer, when it should turn itself
on, and when it should remain on. It is an oddity that MythTV is allowed
to control such a global resource, and us users have to try and add
patches to extend its functionality.

[Bug 880580] [NEW] X doesn't start in oneric live usb due to poulsbo driver

2011-10-23 Thread Jan
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to get Oneric running on this system. Running a freshly downloaded
Oneric from live usb doesn't work because X won't start (open /dev/fb0 fails,
then no screens found). If I 'rmmod poulsbo' from the cli, X subsequently will
start, but it uses VESA.
X should start out of the box. Preferably using something better than vesa.

(some more background: I also have an 11.04 upgraded to 11.10 on this
system, in 11.04 everything worked thanks to
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportComponentsVideoCardsPoulsboAlternatives,
but after the upgrade that failed.)

[Bug 874194] Re: indicator-session shows name as [Invalid UTF-8] for some users (depending on UIDMIN?)

2011-10-23 Thread Richard Peake
Sebastien, Thanks for asking!

As requested, I did the following:
sudo apt-get install d-feet
from Dash, I called up d-feet, used the File menu - Connect to System Bus
- go to org.freedesktop.org.Accounts on the left
- select their path corresponding to their UID on the right, i.e User1000 (mine
was 1101)
- go to Properties, select RealName and get the values of those lines?
I had 2 lines for String RealName = Michael on each line; both the same.

michael@saturn:~$ dpkg -l accountsservice

I use local users. The username IS correctly displayed on the login

 keys.

We don't use SSH on our machines, and we don't own a test machine, so we
can't do your SSH commands. We can't do the upstream kernel testing for
the same reason. Hopefully you have test machines that demonstrate this
 bug.

Please let me know if there's anything else we can do.

 Title:
REISUB fails to reboot the computer.

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

 Bug description:
My son uses Ubuntu 10.04 and I use Kubuntu 10.04. Both computers are
desktop machines, and are not identical. On each of our systems,
Alt+SysRq+REISUB fails to reboot our computers.

  STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1) Close all open programs so that you're just on your Desktop.

  2) Hold down the Alt and SysRq keys.

  3) Slowly type REISUB.

  4) Release the Alt and SysRq keys.

  EXPECTED RESULTS:

Visual feedback when typing each letter of REISUB followed by the
computer rebooting. (Note that I'm not sure whether there should be
some sort of visual feedback when the letter R is pressed.)

  ACTUAL RESULTS:

  R does nothing.
E says Disconnected from Plymouth and leaves the blinking cursor at a
 computer log-in in TTY 1.
I kills a bunch of processes, disconnects the system BUS, and leaves me
with a blinking cursor at a log-in prompt in TTY 1.
S performs an emergency system sync and leaves me with a blinking cursor
that is not at a log-in prompt in TTY 1.
U Disconnects her from USB, does an emergency remount, and leaves me with
a blinking cursor that is not at a log-in prompt in TTY 1.
  B does nothing.

  ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Maco (one of your devs) tried it on an Ubuntu 10.04 machine and it
  successfully rebooted the computer.

  POSSIBLY RELATED INFORMATION:

If, instead, we do Alt+SysRQ+REISUO to shut the machine down rather
than reboot it, it successfully shuts the machine down:

  R does nothing.
E says Disconnected from Plymouth and leaves the blinking cursor at a
 computer log-in in TTY 1.
I kills a bunch of processes, disconnects the system BUS, and leaves me
with a blinking cursor at a log-in prompt in TTY 1.

U Disconnects her from USB, does an emergency remount, and leaves me with

O stops all devices and shuts down the computer.

[Bug 878536] Re: Launcher option Hide launcher in Compiz CSM doesn't work with setting Never

2011-10-23 Thread Tomas Lycken
After further troubleshooting, I begin to think that the new unity
desktop doesn't honor *any* of the CompizConfig settings - it's not just
the autohide of the launcher that's causing a fuss, but also lots of
things with window management (put, as well as any application switcher
except the static one, being a couple of examples I've tried).

Any news on this?

[Bug 827722] Re: minimize/maximize/close buttons do not prelight on all windows

2011-10-23 Thread Evan Anderson
** Description changed:

- This looks to be a bug in compiz. Metacity will do the correct
- higlights.
+ Looks to be a compiz bug. Metacity works.

- The issue is that if you use a theme other than ambiance/randiance, the
- button prelighting will not work as expected.
+ The issue is that windows do not focus correctly. Some do not go to
+ inactive state when unfocused and some are stuck in the inactive state.

  Steps to reproduce:

- 1. Select a theme other than ambiance or randiance
- 2. Hover mouse over close/minimize/maximize button.
+ 1. Open multiple windows
+ 2. Switch windows and observe the title bar.

  Expected:
- Button will change to prelight state
+ Window decorations will change state to reflect new windows status

  What occurs:
- Button does not change state.
+ Windows decorations are stuck in the active state.

- What's odd is that some windows prelight correctly, but others do not.

[Bug 835431] Re: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T cpu (Turbo Core Feature Again)

2011-10-23 Thread Effenberg0x0
This issue was not fixed so far. My CPU is a AMD Phenom II X6 1100T
Black Edition. Dmesg shows two inconsistent information:

# dmesg | grep -i MHz processor
[0.00] Detected 3990.261 MHz processor.

# dmesg | grep -i powernow-k8
[2.301614] powernow-k8: Found 1 AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1100T Processor (6 cpu
cores) (version 2.20.00)
[2.301628] powernow-k8: Core Performance Boosting: on.
[2.301654] powernow-k8:0 : pstate 0 (3700 MHz)
[2.301655] powernow-k8:1 : pstate 1 (2500 MHz)
[2.301657] powernow-k8:2 : pstate 2 (1700 MHz)
[2.301658] powernow-k8:3 : pstate 3 (800 MHz)

As you can see, Powernow-k8 is considering a wrong pstate 0, which is a
lower speed than previously detected in the boot process. This bug is
not new. You'll see that I have posted links to discussions over this
issue, which was supposed to have been fixed in 2.6 using a patch posted
at kernel.org (see
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=b810e94c9d8e3fff6741b66cd5a6f099a7887871).

A simple Google search for Powernow-k8 wrong pstate 0 reveal many discussion at
many distros forums relating this bug.
I strongly suggest this bug is taken under consideration.

Regards,
Effenberg

[Bug 879902] Re: Increase the number of inotify watches

+ I have found that the default maximum number of watches is way to low too

- Possible effects are :
+ Possible effects are :
  - Ubuntu One not syncing correctly
  - Nautilus not updating itself when a file is created or deleted.
  - Audio players not updating music libraries
  - tail -f or other programs using inotify show a cryptic message about no
space being left on the device (while there's plenty of space)

I have found that simply doubling the maximum of watches *is not enough*
for a normal use, and if I believe this comment :
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/beagle/+bug/115801/comments/4
there is no problem to setting the number of watches to a high value.
My current setting is 524288, which is 64 times the default value, It
may be too high for a default value but I believe that 65536 or 131072
should be enough for almost everyone.

If Precise Pangolin wants to be predictable, this issues *has* to be
  addressed.

[Bug 880509] Re: Xfce panel drag + drop

2011-10-23 Thread Gretha
It is useful and efficient in a production environment to have links in
the panel to clearly-identified folders with active documents or with
frequently-used documents. In this manner, these documents are readily
available at a single click.

It avoids having to use a time-consuming search application.

It also keeps the desktop clear, and avoids the abuse of the desktop as
a permanent file store.

Note: On the gnome desktop this functionality is directly available in
the gnome panels.

Ok, you do have some custom PPA's. Try this:

 sudo rm r /var/log/dist-upgrade/*

then try an upgrade again. When it fails, attach the new files that will be
 re-written to /var/log/dist-upgrade

[Bug 835431] Re: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T cpu (Turbo Core Feature Again)

2011-10-23 Thread Brad Figg
Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue.

However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during
any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all.
Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request
further testing. This is such a request.

We have noted that there is a newer version of the development kernel
than the one you last tested when this issue was found. Please test
again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still
exists or not.

If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to
Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from
Incomplete to Fix Released.

Thank you for your help, we really do appreciate it.

[Bug 880504] Re: Pixel bugs in xfce panel

2011-10-23 Thread Gretha
Dear Lionel

I am attaching a screenshot (not magnified or reduced) of the top right-
hand corner of the desktop with the panel in its autohide position.

If you open the png image and zoom in sufficiently, then you will see
that there are actually three pixels missing (not one as I wrote above).

The screenshot also shows that in autohide, the panel has a height of 3
pixels, and it appears there is no manner in which this can be reduced
to a perfectly adequate and less intrusive 1 pixel height. (Note: In
the gnome desktop, autohidden panels are 1 pixel high).

I have tried all sorts, but at the moment when I place the mouse over
the panel, it expands without showing any pixel defects. As I wrote,
from time to time, however, the expanded panel misses all its pixels to
the right of the gap visible in its autohidden mode.

** Attachment added: Screenshot top RHS of xfce desktop, showing damaged xfce
panel in autohide mode

Hey - no apologies necessary - we're all busy.
I still have the affected system and will have for at least the next 6
months, so I'm willing to do whatever I can to solve the problem. I had
been thinking I would re-install the affected system to see if that
solved the problem (I didn't do that when it was my daily working setup)

[Bug 578045] Re: Upgrading packaged Ubuntu application unreasonably involves upgrading entire OS

2011-10-23 Thread Michelle Walker
I will put in a comment from a non-techie source. I'm a fairly new user.
I'm not a programmer. I really like Ubuntu but it seems to want to keep
'non-programmers' out. I see phrases here like 'look for binaries' or
'back'ported', etc. The average person does not know what these things
mean. And if this is something that has to be done just to upgrade,
well...you see my point. Upgrading should be simpler. I have 10.04 and I
keep it because It's LTS but I'd like to upgrade. I'd like to explore
other things Ubuntu has to offer but the last time I upgraded and had
problems, the support from the community was not there (which is another
topic altogether), so I stayed with 10.04.

I'm glad someone recognizes that there are users who really like Ubuntu but
upgrading and getting support for systems that are not LTS is difficult for
non-techies like myself. And BTW, I do spend much time in searching out answers
to problems I may encounter, so it's not a matter of my just wanting to 'push a
button' and have everything fixed for me.
Thanks

[Bug 880495] Re: After upgrade to Oneiric, boot hangs for 60s on network

2011-10-23 Thread Steve Langasek
Not a bug in plymouth; plymouth only displays the message, it doesn't
control the boot timeout.

Upon upgrading to Oneiric, booting now has a ~60 second hang.

This should only happen if there is a network interface configured in
/etc/network/interfaces that is not available. Please attach
/etc/network/interfaces from the affected system.

** Package changed: plymouth (Ubuntu) = upstart (Ubuntu)

[Bug 519935] Re: unable to eject cd-rom after burning disk

2011-10-23 Thread Timothy Arceri
@mavosaure, alejandro

There is no need to post log information against this bug. The cause of this
bug is know, just read the upstream gnome bug if you want to know more details.
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=620151

Also mavosaure this bug should not cause any problems with burning, if you
manually eject the disc everything should be fine this bug is not about burning
problems its just about ejecting the disc once it has burnt.

This bug is also not a papercut as it requires changes to the glib api

[Bug 880521] Re: Thunar file copy through ctrl+drag fails

2011-10-23 Thread Gretha
Dear Lionel

Well-spotted: The behaviour as described does indeed concern making a
copy of a file within the same folder. I should have mentioned this
above. Within the same folder, dragging and pressing Ctrl to copy a
file is simply ignored by Thunar. Just to be on the safe side, I have
tested both dragging and then pressing and holding Ctrl, and first
pressing and holding Ctrl and then dragging. It shouldn't make a
difference, but neither works.
