[Bug 994779] Re: changing the IP address of the maas server requires a reinstall
I realize in my case it is a case of the primary dns not wanting to give up mac address lease of machine. [Bug 999725] Re: broken start-up dependencies for ntp (starts before NIS is available)
It is probably true that this has not been seen much as a bug due to DNS normally being available, hence NIS dependency (if present) being a secondary issue. However, we found that ntp did not recover by itself, so possibly it only tries to find the nameservers once, but will re-try for the time servers in ntp.conf I don't think it is necessary to test for any direct dependency on NIS in ntp.conf (that could be tricky) but a more robust approach would be to start (or restart?) ntp if a directory service is started/restarted just to make sure any such dependency or time-server changes are resolved. I presume this is the sort of thing Upstart can do. Incidentally it seems the last post for bug #604717 is spam, is there any way to get it deleted? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/999725 Title: broken start-up dependencies for ntp (starts before NIS is available) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ntp/+bug/999725/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Not sure why this was assigned to mountall; mountall only parses /etc/fstab at boot time, it certainly isn't going to be responsible for writing to it. Reassigning to nautilus, which I guess is what would have to provide an option to convert gvfs mounts into boot-time mounts by adding them to the /etc/fstab. [Bug 610869] Re: mountall ignores nofail mount option
The 'nofail' option is documented as: do not report errors for this device if it does not exist. The problem you're describing is not one of reporting errors, but a lack of timeout while waiting for a device to become available on boot. 'nofail' is not a correct option to use for this. mountall does support a 'timeout' option which can be set instead, which I believe is what you want. by default this gives a timeout of 30s (globally configurable as an argument to mountall). This option is not documented in the fstab manpage, which is a bug. Reassigning to the mount package for this. ** Package changed: mountall (Ubuntu) = util-linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: util-linux (Ubuntu) Importance: High = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/610869 Title: mountall ignores nofail mount option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/util-linux/+bug/610869/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 614662] Re: A better mountall
This bug report seems to have been based on a lack of understanding of the available mountall options. The only filesystems that will block the start of services like ssh are those mounted at standard FHS mount points. If you have a filesystem mounted at one of the standard mount points and you don't want the boot to wait for that one either, you can use either 'nobootwait' or 'timeout' options for it in /etc/fstab to express this. Closing this report as invalid since I don't see anything here that requires mountall changes. ** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/614662 Title: A better mountall To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mountall/+bug/614662/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 980729] Re: unity can no longer display netbeans window if netbeans is closed while minimized
I'm experiencing setlord's issue: When I start netbeans, it doesn't stay in the unity launcher. If I minimize it, I have no way of restoring it. [Bug 566788] Re: /dev/shm isn't writable, causing problems with glibc 2.2+ apps such as chromium
/dev/shm is a tmpfs, and tmpfs in the kernel has a default mode of 01777. I don't see how this could be happening without a) an /etc/fstab entry overriding the /lib/init/fstab entry, or b) a rogue local script running at start-up that's changing the mode. I certainly don't see any bugs in mountall here, and can't reproduce this - so if someone is still seeing this in 12.04, I'm afraid we're going to need more information to figure it out. ** Changed in: mountall (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/566788 Title: /dev/shm isn't writable, causing problems with glibc 2.2+ apps such as chromium To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mountall/+bug/566788/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 980729] Re: unity can no longer display netbeans window if netbeans is closed while minimized
@Alex: I think it is a different issue so it might make sense to open another bug - I'm not sure though that the unity devs really care about this kind of thing. I do get a netbeans icon in the launcher, it's just that I get a separate icon from the launcher. Clicking on either icon in the launcher brings the netbeans window to the foreground (except when I'm affected by this bug, which I think is due to unity drawing the netbeans window off all the desktop screens). I think your problem is that unity doesn't make a link between the running netbeans application and the desktop file. It is strange that this is so, because all the other launchers I've ever tried in Ubuntu can do this, but I think it's because the netbeans startup program launches a separate application and unity isn't smart enough to realise this. I installed the netbeans launcher in the unity launcher by going to /usr/share/applications in nautilus and dragging the netbeans.desktop file into the launcher. Did you install that way, and if not, if you try it do you get a functioning launcher? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/980729 Title: unity can no longer display netbeans window if netbeans is closed while minimized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/980729/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 792450] Re: Shutdown hangs for several minutes with smb mount
This is not an issue with mountall, which is only responsible for boot- time mounting of filesystems. This was most likely a bug in the networking stack; there have been several bugfixes to the tear-down of the networking stack in 12.04. [Bug 571444] Re: Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected)
In 12.04, mountall supports both 'nobootwait' and 'timeout' options to control whether mountall should wait for a given filesystem before signalling for the boot to proceed. That seems to be the issue raised in this bug, so I think this is resolved. There were other comments about the plymouth prompts not working if more than one disk is failed.
