[Bug 994779] Re: changing the IP address of the maas server requires a reinstall

2012-05-19 Thread John Kroll
I realize in my case it is a case of the primary dns not wanting to
give up mac address lease of machine. If the maas could initiate a
clean lease with dns at middle to end of available ip addresses it would
be much more desirable.

[Bug 999725] Re: broken start-up dependencies for ntp (starts before NIS is available)

2012-05-19 Thread Paul Crawford
It is probably true that this has not been seen much as a bug due to DNS
normally being available, hence NIS dependency (if present) being a
secondary issue. However, we found that ntp did not recover by itself,
so possibly it only tries to find the nameservers once, but will re-try
for the time servers in ntp.conf

I don't think it is necessary to test for any direct dependency on NIS
in ntp.conf (that could be tricky) but a more robust approach would be
to start (or restart?) ntp if a directory service is started/restarted
just to make sure any such dependency or time-server changes are
resolved. I presume this is the sort of thing Upstart can do.

Incidentally it seems the last post for bug #604717 is spam, is there
any way to get it deleted?

2012-05-19 Thread pakopako
Public bug reported:

Entry-level Ubuntu user, please bear with me. Using Ubuntu's Update Manager,
one of the updates stopped because it could not find the directory
/var/log/clamav when it was trying to touch/create a logfile because my install
of clamav from the Ubuntu Software Center either did not create one or the
system flushes out the /var/log directory upon logout.
In either case, the updater could not find the directory to create the file in
and did not autocreate directory. I will manually create said directory and try
the update again.

[Bug 687635] Re: No easy way to make Samba shares permanent

2012-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Not sure why this was assigned to mountall; mountall only parses
/etc/fstab at boot time, it certainly isn't going to be responsible for
writing to it. Reassigning to nautilus, which I guess is what would
have to provide an option to convert gvfs mounts into boot-time mounts
by adding them to the /etc/fstab. (This is probably a bad idea, but I
guess that's a decision for the desktop team.)

[Bug 1001535] [NEW] No automatic login, except on default interface

2012-05-19 Thread Oscar Nunez
Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Package Version: 2.0.871-0ubuntu9

Scenario, created multiple interfaces for SAN

sudo iscsiadm -m iface -I eth0 -o new
sudo iscsiadm -m iface -I eth1 -o new
sudo iscsiadm -m iface -I eth2 -o new
sudo iscsiadm -m iface -I eth3 -o new
sudo iscsiadm -m discovery -t st -p 192.168.1.1
sudo iscsiadm -m node -T iqn.2001-05.com.equallogic:1234567890 -l
sudo iscsiadm -m node -T iqn.2001-05.com.equallogic:1234567890 -o update -n
node.startup -v automatic

What I expected to happen:
Automatic login on eth0...eth3, on open-iscsi start

What happened:
No automatic login on any iscsci interface, no errors

Problem:
/etc/init.d/open-iscsi tries to start sessions on
/etc/iscsi/nodes/*/*/default only

My Solution:
Change two lines in /etc/init.d/open-iscsi from /etc/iscsi/nodes/*/*/default
to /etc/iscsi/nodes/*/*/*
See patch file

Conclusion:
I dont know if this was the proper solution, tried finding a solution searching
the Internet for hours, could not find a fix for my issue, and this was driving
me nuts, hope this helps someone else, and if this is the proper solution hope
this gets included somewhere down the line.

Thank you world for open source :-)

[Bug 938009] Re: Add Unity Launcher Quicklist

2012-05-19 Thread Vincent Cheng
I forwarded this upstream [1]; upstream rejected it with the following
argument:

Also, I am doubtful that we really want to expose the -N feature, this
feature is used almost exclusively only for debugging, and with trunk
especially this is inappropriate for end-users since this skips the
game slot selection and will take any player's game

2012-05-19 Thread J Cord
Public bug reported:

I also recieved a notification that ubi language had crashed previous to this

I had updated 12.04 to 12.10 and it was running, however, with some updating

[Bug 610869] Re: mountall ignores nofail mount option

2012-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
The 'nofail' option is documented as:
do not report errors for this device if it does not exist.

The problem you're describing is not one of reporting errors, but a lack
of timeout while waiting for a device to become available on boot.
'nofail' is not a correct option to use for this.

mountall does support a 'timeout' option which can be set instead, which
I believe is what you want. by default this gives a timeout of 30s
(globally configurable as an argument to mountall).

This option is not documented in the fstab manpage, which is a bug.
Reassigning to the mount package for this.

** Package changed: mountall (Ubuntu) = util-linux (Ubuntu)

[Bug 614662] Re: A better mountall

2012-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
This bug report seems to have been based on a lack of understanding of
the available mountall options. The only filesystems that will block
the start of services like ssh are those mounted at standard FHS mount
points. If you have a filesystem mounted at one of the standard mount
points and you don't want the boot to wait for that one either, you can
use either 'nobootwait' or 'timeout' options for it in /etc/fstab to
express this.

Closing this report as invalid since I don't see anything here that
requires mountall changes.

[Bug 980729] Re: unity can no longer display netbeans window if netbeans is closed while minimized

2012-05-19 Thread Alex Athanasopoulos
I'm experiencing setlord's issue: When I start netbeans, it doesn't
stay in the unity launcher. If I minimize it, I have no way of
restoring it. If I do Lock in Launcher while netbeans is starting,
the icon stays in the launcher, but pressing it attempts to start a new
instance of netbeans instead of bringing up the existing instance. I
noticed these issues today, after I upgraded Netbeans (from within
Netbeans). I have installed Netbeans from a netbeans installer.

Should we open a new issue for this?

First I used Jockey to install fglrx updates, and it failed. Then fglrx

I doubt I am being of any help. But eh.

bwalex, is this issue still reproducible in 12.04 if using hostnames in
/etc/fstab? I've been using hostnames forever for my nfs mounts, and
have never seen these problems at boot.

[Bug 985145] Re: no audio on ubuntu 12.04 on an intel hda vt1705

2012-05-19 Thread Bruce Miller
Have just linked two duplilicate threads to this one. Seems to be
affecting several people.

Apparently there is an upstream fix available but it needs packaging:

http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.0/ChangeLog-3.2.7

commit 852c3a36c216e351d07ca96e9af30b81fff30ccc
Author: Takashi Iwai ti...@suse.de
Date: Mon Feb 13 15:04:06 2012 +0100

ALSA: hda - Fix initialization of secondary capture source on VT1705

(Not as detailed in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS )
The suggested dkms / ppa-daily is source, not .deb, and not always
building properly, so the status says. Also unclear if this is suitable
for 64bit (?)

[Bug 566788] Re: /dev/shm isn't writable, causing problems with glibc 2.2+ apps such as chromium

2012-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
/dev/shm is a tmpfs, and tmpfs in the kernel has a default mode of
01777. I don't see how this could be happening without a) an /etc/fstab
entry overriding the /lib/init/fstab entry, or b) a rogue local script
running at start-up that's changing the mode.

I certainly don't see any bugs in mountall here, and can't reproduce
this - so if someone is still seeing this in 12.04, I'm afraid we're
going to need more information to figure it out.

[Bug 999755] Re: Kernel crash on EC2 m1.large instances

2012-05-19 Thread Gavin Heavyside
I've reproduced this by running the OHAI command from the OpsCode Chef
ohai gem (0.6.12) in a loop, although it took nearly 2 days before it
triggered. Basically I ran `gem install ohai; while true; do ohai; done`
in a screen session.

[Bug 980729] Re: unity can no longer display netbeans window if netbeans is closed while minimized

2012-05-19 Thread Rocko
@Alex: I think it is a different issue so it might make sense to open
another bug - I'm not sure though that the unity devs really care about
this kind of thing.

I do get a netbeans icon in the launcher, it's just that I get a
separate icon from the launcher. Clicking on either icon in the launcher
brings the netbeans window to the foreground (except when I'm affected
by this bug, which I think is due to unity drawing the netbeans window
off all the desktop screens).

I think your problem is that unity doesn't make a link between the
running netbeans application and the desktop file. It is strange that
this is so, because all the other launchers I've ever tried in Ubuntu
can do this, but I think it's because the netbeans startup program
launches a separate application and unity isn't smart enough to realise
this.

I installed the netbeans launcher in the unity launcher by going to
/usr/share/applications in nautilus and dragging the netbeans.desktop
file into the launcher. Did you install that way, and if not, if you try
it do you get a functioning launcher?

[Bug 792450] Re: Shutdown hangs for several minutes with smb mount

2012-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
This is not an issue with mountall, which is only responsible for boot-
time mounting of filesystems. This was most likely a bug in the
networking stack; there have been several bugfixes to the tear-down of
the networking stack in 12.04. If you can reproduce this with 12.04,
please reopen this bug.

[Bug 571444] Re: Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected)

2012-05-19 Thread Steve Langasek
In 12.04, mountall supports both 'nobootwait' and 'timeout' options to
control whether mountall should wait for a given filesystem before
signalling for the boot to proceed. That seems to be the issue raised
in this bug, so I think this is resolved.

[Bug 1001550] [NEW] LibreOffice Calc causes high CPU usage in Xorg when displaying marching ants

2012-05-19 Thread Nathan Wittstock
Public bug reported:

To reproduce (on my system):

1. Run LibreOffice calc (I had imported a CSV with 3 columns and about 300 rows)
2. Select any cell
3. Press Ctrl+C to copy
4. marching ants selection appears

At this point, Xorg is now using 100% CPU on one of my processors.
Clearing the selection (by typing in another cell) clears the marching
ants selection, at which time CPU usage returns to normal.

This survives a restart of the application, or a reboot. Same issue will
occur.

Running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64-bit on a Lenovo ThinkPad T61, 4GB RAM,
NVIDIA Quadro 140M running the proprietary nvidia driver. All drivers,
software, BIOS, etc. are at latest versions.
