[Bug 1006734] [NEW] Samsung RF511 - background not refreshing in 12.04
Public bug reported: Adter update to 12.04 I have no wallpaper - instead everything that moves above the wallpaper leaves a trace on the background - it's not refreshing. I had the problem in 11.10 but there it was fixed by using ppa with newer intel drivers, I assumed it will be fixed in 12.04 but it looks it didn't and that ppa also no longer helps (it's the same on default intel drivers from 12.04 and on intel drivers from the ppa xorg- edgers). Here is screenshot of the problem: http://wieza.iq.pl/media/screenshot.jpg - after last update though it got worse - Unity icons are gone and are black. Knowing Ubuntu it's a random problem and they will be back to normal after I reboot tomorrow probably though so it might not be the greatest problem. [Bug 1004441] Re: Log-in fails unless logging in as "guest" first
This goes deeper - - - The other bug details I have mentioned in Bug #1004456 have now been addressed by an upgrade of today. Frustratingly I made the upgrade while logged in as a Guest. This fixed a lot of the issues, but only in the Guest login. These improvements HAVE NOT been mirrorred into my Root account Log-In. So now these bugs exist in one half of the machine and not another. And this particular Bug continues, in that I need to log in as a Guest before I can successfully log in as Root. [Bug 881669] Re: Maybe logical error in lxdm.c
Hi, I'm seeing the same error on 12.04-server, and what's more can't even log in with my real username from "More ..." ! lxdm is totally broken & unusable for me. for me the listed users on the greeter are : """ syslog usbmux daemon,,,(usbmux) saned More ... """ where all 3 of the above have /home/ set in /etc/passwd. Something's definitely wrong with the parsing of usbmux too, including empty room number, phone number etc ,,, fields. maybe somewhere to start. note all 3 of the above have their shell listed in /etc/passwd as /bin/false, maybe that could be added as an additional "not human" filter? and maybe in addition to that, check if the given home dir exists. so the initial logic line 1682 goes: if the entry has a home dir listed in /etc/passwd, if not on the whitelist, skip to the next if on the blacklist, skip to the next so I agree with mello73 that part is a bit weird, although by filtering out the system fake-users with space delimited entries on the lxdm.conf black= line, I do see my login name come up. . wrt the strcmp(), that function returns 0 when they match, so !strcmp(a,b) logic is correct at least in that case AFAICT, and I disagree with mellow73 there. . for me, adding uid name as space separated on the black= line did work. once I see my user account it lists "Full name,,," and doesn't let me log in. hmmm, looking in /var/log/auth.log it seems that it did open a session for my user but then immediately closed it again. maybe it is looking for some xinit like-file which doesn't exist (lxde is not installed currently) and so instead of defaulting to another session just exits back to the login? (nope, apt-get install lxde doesn't help) so, suggestions: - add a check if /home dir for the user exists on the filesystem - also add a check to see that their shell is not /bin/false - use strchr() + set return pointer to NULL or similar to cut the user's Real Name string at the first ",". - when you can get to your name, make logins work (!) thanks, Hamish -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/881669 Title: Maybe logical error in lxdm.c To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxdm/+bug/881669/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 994203] Re: Xorg freeze with Nouveau drivers
I'm having a similar bug with the radeon driver. Randomly (though often when watching youtube) the screen would just stop updating. I could move the mouse cursor around and I think it was accepting keyboard input but nothing on the screen updated. I could ctrl-alt-f1 over and kill the x session and everything would be fine for awhile again. However, for me it just started happening which led me to test if it was related to recent kernel upgrades. I rebooted with 3.2.0-23 and now I don't seem to have this bug! I did not test 3.2.0-24, but I definitely see the bug with 3.2.0-25. linux-image-generic-pae: Installed: 3.2.0.25.27 Candidate: 3.2.0.25.27 Version table: *** 3.2.0.25.27 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-proposed/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3.2.0.24.26 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main i386 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-security/main i386 Packages 3.2.0.23.25 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/994203 Title: Xorg freeze with Nouveau drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/994203/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1006718] [NEW] sata_sil not loaded at boot time, if driver-police is MODULES=DEP
Public bug reported: I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on a white box. After installation the system failed to boot, as the root fs couldn't be found. I noticed that some of the hard drives were not found and consequently the RAID5 stripe hosting the LVM volume hosting the root fs couldn't be constructed. It turned out that the sata_sil driver modules wasn't loaded at boot time, hence the RAID controller (only used in JBOD mode here) wasn't initialized at the drives attached to it not presented to the host. I added the 'sata_sil' module to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules (along with all the other modules loaded by the installation tool running in rescue mode), changed the driver-policy in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d /driver-policy from 'MODULES=dep' to 'MODULES=list' and rebuilt the initramfs (using `dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-3.2.0-24-generic`. Now the server boots successfully. I like the idea of running the system only with the drivers needed, but perhaps the tool deciding on which modules get in should err on the side of a driver too much, rather than a driver too few. --8<-- tho@paris:~$ dpkg -l|grep initramfs-tools ii initramfs-tools 0.99ubuntu13 tools for generating an initramfs ii initramfs-tools-bin 0.99ubuntu13 binaries used by initramfs-tools -->8-- hth ** Affects: initramfs-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1006718 Title: sata_sil not loaded at boot time, if driver-police is MODULES=DEP To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/1006718/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1006717] [NEW] [MIR] linux-base
Public bug reported: The new flash-kernel package in Quantal now depends on linux-base. linux-base is a very simple package that currently only contains a "linux-version" script to do version checks, a simple /usr/share/perl5/DebianLinux.pm Perl module (used by linux-version), and (for some curious reason) the manpage for "perf". [Bug 1006714] [NEW] [MIR] tex-gyre
Public bug reported: tex-gyre is now a new recommends from texlive-base (earned through the Debian autosyncs). It is mostly encoding data and fonts, so fairly harmless. [Bug 1006709] Re: [MIR] pytest, codespeak-lib
pytest needs codespeak-lib. It is also a pure Python package, supports Python 3, is well-covered by tests, and maintained well in Debian. If one or both packages are not appropriate for main, we can also drop running the tests from py3cairo. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1006709 Title: [MIR] pytest, codespeak-lib To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/codespeak-lib/+bug/1006709/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
