[Bug 1169044] Re: can't install/upgrade postfix non interactively through apt

2013-04-18 Thread Andrew Jones
I tested this again on a clone of one of our other machines which hadn't
had it's packaged upgraded.

I ran sudo apt-get update, then sudo apt-get upgrade.

The following packages were going to be upgraded:
  accountsservice apache2-utils apt apt-transport-https apt-utils bash
bind9-host cloud-init curl dmsetup
  dnsutils gir1.2-gudev-1.0 grub-legacy-ec2 icedtea-6-jre-cacao
icedtea-6-jre-jamvm iptables
  language-selector-common libaccountsservice0 libapt-inst1.4 libapt-pkg4.12
libbind9-80 libcurl3
  libcurl3-gnutls libcurl4-openssl-dev libdbus-glib-1-2 libdevmapper1.02.1
libdns81 libdrm-intel1
  libdrm-nouveau1a libdrm-radeon1 libdrm2 libgnutls-dev libgnutls-openssl27
libgnutls26 libgnutlsxx27
  libgudev-1.0-0 libisc83 libisccc80 libisccfg82 liblwres80 libmysqlclient-dev
libmysqlclient18 libnspr4
  libnss3 libnss3-1d libpciaccess0 libssl-dev libssl-doc libssl1.0.0 libudev0
libvirt-dev libvirt0 libxml2
  linux-libc-dev openjdk-6-jre-headless openjdk-6-jre-lib openssl
percona-server-client-5.5
  percona-server-common-5.5 percona-server-server-5.5 percona-xtrabackup perl
perl-base perl-modules
  postfix rsyslog sudo udev

I was presented with a changelog in less, and the upgrades proceeded
when i'd closed that.

Other packages upgraded without incident, but when postfix was being
upgraded I was presented with a pink screen titled 'Postfix
Configuration', even though postfix has already been configured. The
options included 'No configuration', 'Internet site', 'Internet with
smarthost', 'Satellite system' and 'Local only'. As before, the upgrade
would not proceed without user input.

[Bug 1170223] [NEW] backport quantal ec2-api-tools to precise

2013-04-18 Thread Paul Morahan
Public bug reported:

12.04 uses ec2-api-tools 1.5.0.0
12.10 uses ec2-api-tools 1.6.1.1

AWS is deprecating the SOAP API, which is the only one that 1.5.0.0
supports (newer version not in backports either). 1.6.1.1 supports the
use of the AWS Access/Secret keys, which is their way forward. Precise
will be with us for a while, so it would be good to update these tools
to suit.

[Bug 1169044] Re: can't install/upgrade postfix non interactively through apt

2013-04-18 Thread Robie Basak
Thanks for your reply. It's great that you've got a clone - presumably
even though I can't reproduce the issue, you can?

Could you please clone again, but perform a few steps differently this
time? This will help diagnose the issue.

First, I don't understand what the changelog is in less at all. Please
could you describe everything you see around that in more detail? Have
you installed any kind of addon or modification that might affect the
upgrade process?

Then, from a clone to reproduce the problem, please run dpkg-query -W
postfix to give me the version number you're upgrading from.

Next, please install the debconf-tools package (before upgrading),
then run debconf-get-selections|grep postfix and paste the output of
that here.

Then, to upgrade, run sudo DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text apt-get upgrade
instead. This will show you the prompt without full screen mode, which
will allow you to copy and paste the output more easily. Please try and
capture the output of absolutely everything and attach it to this bug.
Please don't skip any output - it may be important.

To eliminate the less command to make it easier to capture that, you
might try sudo DEBIAN_FRONTEND=text PAGER=cat apt-get upgrade. I'm
not sure what the less invocation is, but this might eliminate it.

Setting Incomplete again - please change to New when done (this is to
clear it from the triage queue so that it pops up again when the bug
needs attention).

Actually, instead of installing debconf-tools and running debconf-get-
selections, could you please instead run this command:

sed -n '/postfix/,/^$/p' /var/cache/debconf/config.dat /tmp/postfix-
config.txt

And then attach /tmp/postfix-config.txt to this bug? This will provide

[Bug 1170325] [NEW] Facter 1.6.X not considering Qemu/KVM virtual type

2013-04-18 Thread rustx
Public bug reported:

1.6.5-ubuntu1.

ii facter 1.6.5-1ubuntu1 collect and display facts about the system

The is_virtual? method is not recognized on last version of KVM, because
of the output of /proc/cpuinfo, which does not contains “Qemu Server”
Infos.

The workaround was added in the next versions of facter, and so I would

Is this a duplicate of bug 708080? That bug claims this problem was

a regression?

[Bug 1170325] Re: Facter 1.6.X not considering Qemu/KVM virtual type

2013-04-18 Thread rustx
Thanks for your swift reply.

According to me, this bug is not a duplicate of bug 708080.

This new bug occurs with the latest version of qemu-server (v 2.3.18)

When using qemu-server v2.0.72, the output of /proc/cpuinfo shows QEMU
Virtual CPU, and the fix was added to integrate QEMU/KVM types in
facter.

Now qemu-server has been updated, the /proc/cpuinfo does not show QEMU
Virtual CPU anymore, but Common KVM processor. This causes this
announced facter bugs, which does not recognize KVM as virtual machines.

Please, let me know if I could submit you a valid bug report : on my
side, I don't think the 2 cases are related, and this should not be a
regression.

Thanks a lot,

Best regards,

[Bug 739495]

2013-04-18 Thread Kived
+1 here as well.

I'm trying to set up a secure Apt archive using ssh to limit access. I'm
also making a Debian package to set up access to the archive, so it
would be nice to add the Host stanza to a separate file for maintenance
reasons.

Methods such as using aliases/scripts to aggregate the various config
files before execing ssh won't work for this, as apt-get is not going to
call an shell-defined alias.

Guess I'm gonna have to fall back to my old method of using scripts to
rewrite /etc/ssh/ssh_config - which is a horrible way to do things. This
is precisely why pretty much every major Linux service uses config.d
directories instead of monolithic config files. EXCEPT OPENSSH.

This request has now been ignored for 4 years. It would be nice to see
some sort of response.

[Bug 1170458] [NEW] iptables service not functionnal - Solution included

2013-04-18 Thread Francois Trahan
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

logwatch does not include blocked connexions (iptables). As this is an
entry point in monitoring servers and because blocked connexion can be a
symptom of break-in attempts, having no report on them while you expect
to can be a big problem

Sorry for not submitting a patch, this is beyond my knowledge and time,
but since it's three lines of code, here's my fix with a bit of
explanation :

in /usr/share/logwatch/dist.conf/services/iptables.conf, set the logfile
to syslog or kern.log :

LogFile = /var/log/kern.log

After doing so, the logfile are not parsed properly. While you now get
reports, the aggregation is not acurate

Basically, the cleanup regexp does not account for the fact that for
small kernel timestamps, there is a space at the beginning of the stamp.

in /usr/share/logwatch/scripts/services/iptables on line 132

The old regexp is :
$ThisLine =~ s/^... .. ..:..:.. ([^ ]*) (kernel: )?(\[\d+\.\d+\] )?//;

The right regexp would be :
$ThisLine =~ s/^... .. ..:..:.. ([^ ]*) (kernel: )?(\[ *\d+\.\d+\] )?//;

Here is an example of a log line that would not work, because of the space in
the timestamp [ 1690.227087]

Apr 18 18:05:37 rack1 kernel: [ 1690.227087] fw: IN= OUT=eth0

[Bug 1168526] Re: race condition causing lxc to not detect container init process exit

2013-04-18 Thread Serge Hallyn
No, I cannot reproduce this with the latest upstream kernel build
(3.9.0-030900rc7-generic #201304171402)

What I did:

sudo lxc-create -t ubuntu- n r1
cat exit0.c EOF
#include stdlib.h
int main() {
exit(0);
}
EOF
make exit0
sudo cp exit0 /var/lib/lxc/r0/rootfs/bin/
sudo lxc-start -n r1 -- /bin/exit0

Which only shows

lxc-start: No such file or directory -
stat(/proc/2620/root/dev/lxc/console)

but exits 0 correctly. If I do

sudo lxc-start -n r1 -l info -o outout -- /bin/exit0

then outout shows:

  lxc-start 1366317913.390 INFO lxc_start - init has already
exited

Are you sure when you tested the newer kernel you weren't using a different
(unpatched) lxc?

[Bug 1113821] Re: libvirt-bin deletes /etc/dnsmasq.d/libvirt-bin on upgrade

2013-04-18 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Tristan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libvirt into precise-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libvirt/0.9.8-2ubuntu17.9 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 993259] Re: ypbind does not start on boot

2013-04-18 Thread Jason Hildebrand
I do not believe this is a NetworkManager issue.

My interfaces file says:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

and my /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf says:
[main]
plugins=ifupdown,keyfile
dns=dnsmasq

[ifupdown]
managed=false

However I still have this exact same issue as reported above: after booting
ypwhich says ypwhich: Can't communicate with ypbind, and it works after I
restart ypbind.

I installed 3.9 mainline, and its doing fine. What is going on. The new
pulseaudio takes up most of the CPU, 3.8.0-18 doesn't boot... it's a
little late to be doing world-shaking bugs, no?

[Bug 1169740] Re: rsyslog hangs loading modules

2013-04-18 Thread Jon Tai
Here is the script I used to reproduce the bug. I had 3 machines running
the patched version of rsyslog (5.8.6-1ubuntu8.1+lp1169740) running it
for over 10 hours, no deadlocks. I had 1 machine running the unpatched
version of rsyslog (5.8.6-1ubuntu8) and it deadlocked in ~33 minutes.

I also had 5 production machines running the patched version for 10
hours, no deadlocks. On 5 other machines running the unpatched version,
2 deadlocked immediately when I restarted rsyslog, and 2 more deadlocked
shortly afterward.

At this point I'm fairly confident that the patch works.

** Attachment added: Restart rsyslog and check for new log messages

2013-04-18 Thread Gavin Guo
After discussing with Ike, we came up with 2 methods, either to write a

the acpiphp then to write a driver under drivers/platform/x86/. Now, I'm
consulting the upstream for the suggestion.

[Bug 1159398] Re: buggy openchrome driver renders desktop unusable

2013-04-18 Thread Jane Atkinson
I'm also having problems with an chrome chipset. So far I've only tested
with a liveCD.

lspci shows:
VGA compatible controller [0300]: VIA Technologies, Inc. CN896/VN896/P4M900
[Chrome 9 HC] [1106:3371] (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

I'm not getting the artefacts that the OP is getting, but the screen is
rendering in slow motion and I notice that compiz is maxing out the CPU
much of the time. Trying to do anything with the PC is like the
proverbial wading through molasses.

I don't remember if I've run 12.10 on this machine, but 12.04 and
previous versions have been fine. I suspect that the system has been
defaulting to vesa.

[Bug 1166106] Re: fwts-efi-runtime-dkms 0.26.07-0ubuntu1: fwts-efi-runtime-dkms kernel module failed to build

2013-04-18 Thread Keng-Yu Lin
fwts-efi-runtime-dkms depends on linux-headers-generic or linux-headers
metapackages.

In your environment the kernel/header package is of version
3.8.0-16-generic while `uname -r` gives the version
3.8.0-030800-generic. This causes this error.

The new version of fwts 0.26.08-0ubuntu1 and new kernel and its header
packages of version 3.8.0-18 are available in raring already. I can
install fwts-efi-runtime-dkms without any problem.

I will close the bug since it seems to fixed now. Please re-open it if
it does not work for you.

Re: [Bug 1168250] Re: [Nexus7] guvcview crashed when changing resolution

2013-04-18 Thread sudodus
Hi Bryce,

I'll try to reproduce that event with today's daily build of Lubuntu
i386 desktop.

I didn't keep the picture, it was the default jpeg picture from the
webcam with my ugly face ;-)

I think the bug is still there, that the jpeg picture is not read by the
default picture viewer of Lubuntu, gpicview. But Xorg will not crash
every time I try this procedure (and I don't know what makes it crash).

Best regards
Nio

On 2013-04-17 20:15, Bryce Harrington wrote:
Please attach the picture that caused the crash (if it can be shared).

Also please run apport-collect 1168250, since some of your log files
didn't get added to the bug report for some reason.

 ** Description changed:

I was testing Lubuntu Nexus 7 session in a persistent live system.

First I noticed that it works with the built in camera :-)

Then I noticed that the default setting (to save a jpeg picture) creates
a bad picture file, that cannot be read by gpicview. Work-around: save a
png picture. I suggest that the default setting is changed until the
   jpeg bug is fixed.

Finally a changed the resolution to 1280x720 which worked. But when I
changed back to the default 640x480, the program crashed the system and
sent me back to the log in screen.

[Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor

2013-04-18 Thread Till Kamppeter
Krastanov, is your 13.04 completely up-to-date? I have created and
tested the packages on an up-to-date 13.04 and there they work. Are you
using the PPA (i386, amd64) or the binary package tarball (Nexus
7/armhf)?

Can you upload you gdm logs from /var/log/gdm/

Best if you first enable debug mode by editing /etc/gdm/custom.conf
(although you may need to re-install gdm, since it looks like that file
is missing in your logs above).

Your HDMI device usually show up as HDMI / Displayport 3, right? If
so, for speaker-test you should specify

Will that work, appear to work but give silent output, or give an error

[Bug 1170223] [NEW] backport quantal ec2-api-tools to precise

2013-04-18 Thread Paul Morahan
Public bug reported:

12.04 uses ec2-api-tools 1.5.0.0
12.10 uses ec2-api-tools 1.6.1.1

AWS is deprecating the SOAP API, which is the only one that 1.5.0.0
supports (newer version not in backports either). 1.6.1.1 supports the
use of the AWS Access/Secret keys, which is their way forward. Precise
will be with us for a while, so it would be good to update these tools
to suit.

[Bug 1073433] Re: Ext4 corruption associated with shutdown of Ubuntu 12.10

2013-04-18 Thread Alexander
Morning, 'halt'... and / is busy again.
VERBOSE=yes
in /etc/default/rcS didn't help either.
Just a few messages are added:

 * Will now unmount temporary filesystems
tmpfs has been unmounted

 * Will now deactivate swap
swapoff on /dev/sdb1

 * Mounting root filesystem read-only...
umount: /run/lock: not mounted
umount: /run/shm: not mounted
mount: / is busy

I don't know how to debug it even more.
Any ideas?

P.S.: with 3.8 kernel from PPA Xorg doesn't start (lack of KMS or
something). So currently I can't fully test it with a new kernel.

laptop sits docked in the docking station. An external 1920x1200 monitor
is connected via the docking station's DisplayPort. I have configured
the laptop's display (eDP1) to be disabled while docked, as shown in
xrandr:

When the SNA is enabled and the notebook is ejected from the docking
station, the screen becomes garbled on the internal screen (please see
attachment for a screenshot). When I switch to old UXA using the
following xorg.conf:

$ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf

the laptop detachment works flawlessly and the screen is not garbled.

[Bug 1160042] Re: Scroll speed too fast with Microsoft mice

2013-04-18 Thread Niklas Fischer
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

Ever since I use my Microsoft Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000, I get
the problem, that scrolling is extremely fast after restarting the
computer after using Windows. The issue seems to be well documented, as
several other users have come across this problem [1]. The common
workaround seems to be un- and replugging the mouse's usb adaptor [2]. I
can confirm this workaround works. Another solution is offered by Paul
Richards with his resetmsmice script [3][4]. These utilities do work,
and it is less difficult to run a single sudo command than to go duck
diving underneath my desk each time I start ubuntu. According to this
[5] thread, he has also submitted a kernel patch, but it does not seem
to have made it through to me, as the problem perseveres even with
ubuntu 12.10. Is there any possibilities of adding these kernel fixes to
the kernel used by ubuntu? I have never comiled a kernel myself, but I
  would gladly assist testing anything.
