[Bug 1385641] Re: urfkilld use 100% cpu after resume

2015-11-08 Thread Peter Frandsen
I can confirm this on 15.10 (Dell XPS developer edition). Makes the
computer almost unusable and require it to be plugged in all the time.
Makes me regret the upgrade from 15.04 :-(

[Bug 1494236] Re: 10de:1292 Optirun does not run as kernel does not recognise 3D Controller NVIDIA

2015-11-08 Thread Jim Richards
Just upgraded to 15.10. Booting up with nvidia driver directly gives
glxgears running at expected result. Installing bumblebee and running
optimus glxgears gives /var/log/system entry and no expected result.

As a note - I have a Dell XPS as well, and I get the same result with
Ubuntu 15.04. My co-worker has the same laptop with Arch Linux and
Bumblebee works for him with the same hardware.

[Bug 1512915] Re: Update to 3.18

2015-11-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package gnome-settings-daemon -
3.18.1-1ubuntu1

---
gnome-settings-daemon (3.18.1-1ubuntu1) xenial; urgency=medium

  * Merge with Debian, remaining changes (LP: #1512915):
+ Split out schemas into gnome-settings-daemon-schemas so
  unity-settings-daemon can use them
+ Provide upstart user-session
+ debian/patches:
   - 05_disable_corner_tapping.patch:
Disable corner tapping when disabling tap to click
   - 43_disable_locale_settings.patch:
Don't set locales after sourcing .profile
   - 45_suppress-printer-may-not-be-connected-notification.patch
   - 53_sync_input_sources_to_accountsservice.patch
   - 64_restore_terminal_keyboard_shortcut_schema.patch
   - correct_logout_action.patch
display the logout action on ctrl-alt-del (lp: #961501)
   - ubuntu-lid-close-suspend.patch
Reimplement support for setting lid close suspend actions
   - revert_background_dropping.patch
Keep gsettings keys background u-s-d needs them
   - revert-gsettings-removals.patch
Revert gsettings keys that were dropped since 3.8, for u-s-d
   - 01_reinstate_updates_plugin.patch, keep this for now until we have
gnome-software now which is responsible for the update notifications.
+ debian/gnome-settings-daemon.install: Install apport hook
+ debian/rules:
  - install upstart scripts
  - Dont link with "-Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions",
this was causing GType mismatches between plugins using
gsd-device-manager (LP: #1427877)
  * debian/patches:
+ revert-gsettings-removals.patch: updated for keys removed in 3.18
+ nexus-orientation.patch: Dropped this will be handled by iio-sensor-proxy
+ ubuntu-lid-close-suspend.patch: refreshed
  * debian/gnome-settings-daemon-schemas.gsettings-override: Dropped, these are
already the default settings

[Bug 1514195] [NEW] changing border style closes libreoffice calc in i3-wm

2015-11-08 Thread niggard
Public bug reported:

Hello,
details are the same as in Debian bug #801504
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=801504)

Dear Maintainer,

The same libreoffice used by the same user on the same machine works fine,
when used in Gnome3. When used in i3-wm, after opening new spreadsheet:

1. select any cell,
2. click `border style` icon in menu,
3. from the list select any border style (solid line for example).

Libreoffice will be closed immediately. Recovery will be possible
after relaunch.

[Bug 1514052] Re: erratic fan speed and little control kernel 4.2

2015-11-08 Thread Benjamin
Since "dell-smm-hwmon" seems to be an alias of the i8k module, and based
on the solution from the #100121 of the kernel bug tracker, blacklist
"dell-smm-hwmon" resolved the issue at least on my Dell Studio XPS 8000.
I tried many hard reboots to confirm this.

However i don't really know this module and can't say if blacklisting it
is free of side effects.

i'd argue that this module concerns DELL laptops as it's modinfo
description suggests but my DELL studio XpS 8000 is a desktop, not a
laptop.

[Bug 1514161] [NEW] address book search view makes full show after delete

2015-11-08 Thread Darko Veberic
Public bug reported:

just an annoyance: imagine you want to delete an email from all the
address books. you click on the top item "All Address Books" and then
enter the email into the search box. let's assume the search shows you
several hits which all appear in the window below the search box. you
click on the first one and you press the delete key. a dialog appears
and you confirm the action with ok. the window, which was up until now
showing several hits to your search, refreshes and shows you *all* your
emails, in spite that the search box is still showing your selection
restriction. imho, this is a contradiction. either the search box has to
be reset to empty or the window should again show the corresponding
selection.

[Bug 1507091] Re: Corrupted low memory on Ubuntu 15.04

2015-11-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Guillermo Rodas, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from
kernel 3.19 to 4.3 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified,
then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your
release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1510821] Re: Ubuntu Freezes With No Obvious Reason

2015-11-08 Thread Plamen
I just want to notify the bug did not occur in the last 3-4 days. The things
I've done are:
1. keep updating ubuntu
2. physically cleared my video card.

I will continue to monitor and if the system don't freeze for 2-3 more
days will mark the bug as "Fix Released".

[Bug 1514102] Re: Intel Graphic chips bug(s)

2015-11-08 Thread Ian Bruntlett
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected ubuntu

** Description changed:

  1. Original bug was where the graphics would normally work but every so
often the screen would be corrupted with horizontal lines of junk.

After much research I found a primitive fix for that:-
  * edit /etc/default/grub to add nomodeset to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX
  * sudo update-grub
  * reboot

  2. Now the system will only allow VGA 640x480 graphics

This is occurring on an Intel 829845G/GZ chipset

[Bug 1317437] Re: wubi kernel option "rw" required

2015-11-08 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
I believe that this comment:

https://code.launchpad.net/~noorez-kassam/ubuntu/utopic/initramfs-tools
/fix-for-1317437/+merge/219927/comments/592175

This is the way I understand this is and my testing is shown below:

Mounting and creating the loop device in the same step with the readonly
option, makes it impossible to remount the loop device later as read-
write.

By creating the loop device separately (which defaults to read-write
capable unless the -r option is supplied), the loop device can then be
mounted readonly, and later remounted as read-write.

This change is needed since release 14.04, which - for unknown reasons -
now won't let the loop device be remounted read-write (perhaps it's
passing the -r option to losetup internally and it's losetup which has
started enforcing this?).

The end result is that Wubi installs cannot boot, because the remount
read-write fails.

My tests confirm this:
Setup:
1. Create a file, format as ext4.
bcbc@neptune:~$ dd if=/dev/zero of=new.disk bs=1MB count=100
bcbc@neptune:~$ mkfs.ext4 -F new.disk

2. Old method, mount and create loop device as read only, then try to remount
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo mount -r -t ext4 -o loop new.disk /mnt
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo touch /mnt/test
touch: impossible de faire un touch «/mnt/test»: Système de fichiers accessible
en lecture seulement
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo mount -o remount,rw /mnt
mount : impossible de remonter périphérique bloc /dev/loop0 en
lecture/écriture, est protégé en écriture
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo umount /mnt

3. New method, first create loop device (defaults to read-write capable), then
mount as read only, then try to remount read-write
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo losetup /dev/loop0 new.disk
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo mount -r -t ext4 /dev/loop0 /mnt
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo touch /mnt/test
touch: impossible de faire un touch «/mnt/test»: Système de fichiers accessible
en lecture seulement
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo mount -o remount,rw /mnt
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo touch /mnt/test
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo umount /mnt
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo losetup -d /dev/loop0

4. To confirm it's probably passing -r to losetup
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo losetup -r /dev/loop0 new.disk
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo mount -r -t ext4 /dev/loop0 /mnt
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo touch /mnt/test
touch: impossible de faire un touch «/mnt/test»: Système de fichiers accessible
en lecture seulement
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo mount -o remount,rw /mnt
mount : impossible de remonter périphérique bloc /dev/loop0 en
lecture/écriture, est protégé en écriture
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo umount /mnt
bcbc@neptune:~$ sudo losetup -d /dev/loop0

Conclusion:
This fix is appropriate and required for loop mounted installs

[Bug 1514203] [NEW] mkfs.btrfs and fsck.btrfs gets installed into the wrong directory

2015-11-08 Thread David Lee
Public bug reported:

Watching the Ubuntu console while installing, I noticed that mkinitramfs
keeps complaining that it could not find fsck.btrfs. I looked into it
and noticed that both mkfs.btrfs and fsck.btrfs are being installed into
/bin instead of /sbin proper. A quick workaround is to copy the files
from /bin to /sbin, but this is a major issue as if the user boots from
a btrfs root filesystem and the root filesystem gets corrupted, then the
user will not be able to fsck the filesystem when dumped at the initrd.

** Affects: btrfs-tools (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1514160] [NEW] contradictory geometry description

2015-11-08 Thread Pablo Piaggio
Public bug reported:

gnome-terminal's man pages describes option --geometry as:

--geometry=GEOMETRY
X geometry specification (see "X" man page), can be specified
once per window to be opened.

which is basically size in pixels and a position in the format
WIDTHx‐HEIGHT+XOFF+YOFF, e.g. 1280x720+0+0

However, gnome-terminal --help-all describes --geometry as:

--geometry=GEOMETRY Set the window size; for example:
80x24, or 80x24+200+200 (COLSxROWS+X+Y)

in other words, as columns by rows of text.

Currently gnome-terminal in an updated 14.04 works following the latter
definition, i.e., --geometry describes columns and rows of text.

Regards.

Thanks for the reply anyway.

[Bug 1514163] [NEW] transgui instantly crashes on start

2015-11-08 Thread Justin Seton Browne
Public bug reported:

TransGui crashes as soon as it starts.

I can replicate this on two separate systems, running two different
versions of Ubuntu 15.10. I have a Raspberry Pi 2 running Lxubuntu &
another running Ubuntu-mate 15.10. Ubuntu-mate was a fresh image of
15.10 & transgui was the first program that I installed, whilst Lxubuntu
was recently upgraded from 15.04 to 15.10. Under 15.04 on Lxubuntu,
transgui ran perfectly, but as soon as I tried to run it after the
upgrade, it crashes. If I try to run it from a terminal, it loops over
the following line:

(transgui:2367): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_widget_realize: assertion
'GTK_WIDGET_ANCHORED (widget) || GTK_IS_INVISIBLE (widget)' failed

If I try to run it under Ubuntu-mate 15.10, I get an identical error.

Lxubuntu results for the commands below:

# lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 15.10

[Bug 1488719] Re: dmesg shows "[drm:gen8_irq_handler [i915]] *ERROR* The master control interrupt lied (SDE)!"

2015-11-08 Thread Tim Holy
I'm still getting this on 4.2.0-17-generic with a Lenovo W550s.
Moreover, [if you read the patch](http://www.spinics.net/lists/intel-
gfx/msg78796.html) you'll see it just affects whether it prints the
warning, and doesn't correct the underlying problem. Related or not, I'm
also seeing the blank-screen symptoms [reported
here](https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/9755).

[Bug 1514181] [NEW] Compose key doesn't work

2015-11-08 Thread Xtien
Public bug reported:

I just noticed that the compose key doesn't work. I had it configured to
be the alt right key, but that doesn't work any more. I tried to
reconfigure it in system settings, to no avail. Must be caused by an
update that I had very recently, it worked two days ago.

[Bug 1514198] [NEW] Gpu hung on i915.

2015-11-08 Thread AntonioDiMartino
Public bug reported:

Hello,
my gpu, an old GMA945 on i915, randomly crashes.
This is an extract of the kernel log reporting the crash.
I have to admit, to be precise, that this defect has been occuring just after
upgrading to 15.10 and kernel 4.x; before of that, with ubuntu 15.04, it never
occurred.
Thanks.

[Bug 1317437] Re: wubi kernel option "rw" required

2015-11-08 Thread Rafael David Tinoco
This bug is being reported to happen also after a clonezilla based
installation for Trusty.

"""
The issue with /tmp will timeout and continue to boot, / will hand the boot up
unless there is some user intervention to continue the boot. The work around I
mentioned came from a suggestion in the ‘askubuntu’ link listed below. What we
did was modify /etc/grub.d/10_linux changing ‘ro’ to ‘rw’, but with the thought
that this is just a temp patch with possible (unknown) downstream impact.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1308152
(can't boot from kernel 3.13.0.24 after upgrade to ubuntu 14.04 LTS but able to
boot with kernel 3.11.0.20).
http://askubuntu.com/questions/453411/ubuntu-14-04-not-booting-after-error-message-tmp-could-not-be-mounted

Rebooting the system to get to the boot menu, I used the 'e' option to modify
the parameters changing 'ro' to 'rw' as suggested in the 2nd thread. This
temporary change allowed the system to boot.

So I looked at what kernels I had installed and there was only one. And
it wasn't the kernel I was expecting for 15.10. The kernel version on my
system was:

uname -r
3.13.0-45-generic

I searched for the version that wily was supposed to ship with and found
this article that explains there is/was a bug in the distribution
upgrade script.

http://askubuntu.com/questions/689358/ubuntu-kernel-not-updating-
with-15-10

I installed the latest kernel and it the issue is now resolved.

sudo apt-get install linux-generic

Thanks for all of your help Chris.

[Bug 1480877] Re: Access points' "PropertiesChanged" dbus signals freeze UI on mobile devices

2015-11-08 Thread taiebot65
Here my feedback from installing silo 10 as per bug #1462664. I have
been walking to town today and did not notice any lag for the time i was
in town. Normally i am experiencing some hangs of more than 1 min before
i can get a working phone. Today i checked repeatedly my phone and it
did wake up like a normal phone it would be nice if someone could
confirm this behaviour. I did get though a lot of dialog menu as per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity8/+bug/1508563. This is
less problematic than missing phone calls because the phone is slow as
hell because of this bug.

It'd be great if this got fixed. Its getting pretty tiresome to
constantly have to reboot laptop and lose data.

Suspending doesnt fix this for me. I wish it would so I wouldnt lose
anything.

[Bug 1514192] Re: Can't choose recover data due to missing parted

2015-11-08 Thread Curtis Gedak
Since you mentioned "recovery" I assume that you are using the "Device
-> Attempt Data Rescue" menu option. If this is the case then the
required package is "gpart" (guess partitions). The command to install
*gpart* on ubuntu is:

 sudo apt-get update && apt-get install gpart

If my assumption is wrong, then please provide additional details
because the problem is not clear.

[Bug 1122613] Re: XDG Base Directory Specification environment variables aren't set by default

2015-11-08 Thread MestreLion
This is not a bug, as the standard specification linked in the
description clearly defines what defaults values should be used if the
environment vars are empty or not set. So there is no need to set the
values unless you want to change the default ones, and it would be
redundant to set them to their default.

[Bug 1514173] [NEW] [listitemlayout] setting RichText format with html image tag leads to crash (segfault)

2015-11-08 Thread Andrea Bernabei
Public bug reported:

ListItemLayout defines a default main slot, which is currently the
internal class UCThreeLabelsSlot.

ListItemLayout currently doesn't set the QML context of the
UCThsreeLabelsSlot, and UCThreeLabelsSlot doesn't set the QML context of
its internal UCLabels.

This leads to a segfault when Qt tries to access the QML context of any
of the predefined labels in ListItemLayout.

The following test case triggers the crash:
ListItemLayout {
id: layoutTestQmlContext
title.text: "TEST "
title.textFormat: Text.RichText
}

[Bug 1510837] Re: Sync dropbear 2015.68-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2015-11-08 Thread Angel Abad
This bug was fixed in the package dropbear - 2015.68-1
Sponsored for LocutusOfBorg (costamagnagianfranco)

---
dropbear (2015.68-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New co-maintainer.

  [ Matt Johnston ]
  * New upstream release.  (Closes: #631858, #775222.)

  [ Guilhem Moulin ]
  * debian/source/format: 3.0 (quilt)
  * debian/compat: 9
  * debian/control:
+ Bump Standards-Version to 3.9.6 (no changes necessary).
+ Add Homepage, Vcs-Git, and Vcs-Browser fields.
  * debian/copyright: add machine-readable file.
  * Split up package in dropbear-bin (binaries), dropbear-run (init scripts)
and dropbear-initramfs (initramfs integration). 'dropbear' is now a
transitional dummy package depending on on dropbear-run and
dropbear-initramfs. (Closes: #692932.)
  * Refactor the package using dh_* tools, including dh_autoreconf. (Closes:
#689618, #777324, #793006, #793917.)
  * Add 'Multi-Arch: foreign' tags.
  * dropbear-run:
+ Add a status option to the /etc/init.d script.
+ Pass key files with -r not -d in /etc/init.d script. (Closes: #761143.)
+ Post-installation script: Generate missing ECDSA in addition to RSA and
  DSS host keys. (Closes: #776976.)
  * dropbear-initramfs:
+ No longer mark /usr/share/initramfs-tools/conf-hooks.d/dropbear as a
configuration file, since it violates the Debian Policy Manual section
10.7.2. (Regression from 2014.64-1.) Instead, move the file to
/etc/initramfs-tools/conf-hooks.d/dropbear and add a symlink in
  /usr/share/initramfs-tools/conf-hooks.d.
+ Delete debian/initramfs/premount-devpts, since /dev/pts in mounted by
  init since initramfs-tools 0.94. (Closes: #632656, #797939.)
+ Auto-generate host keys in the postinstall script, not when runing
  update-initramfs. Pass the '-R' option (via $PKGOPTION_dropbear_OPTION)
for the old behavior. Also, print fingerprint and ASCII art for
generated keys (if ssh-keygen is available).
+ Revert ad2fb1c and remove warning about changing host key. Users
shouldn't be encouraged to use the same keys in the encrypted partition
and in the initramfs. The proper fix is to use an alternative port or
  UserKnownHostFile.
+ Set ~root to `mktemp -d "$DESTDIR/root-XX"` to avoid collisions with
  $rootmnt. (Closes: #558115.)
+ Exit gracefully if $IP is 'none' or 'off'. (Closes: #692932.)
+ Start dropbear with flag -s to explicitly disable password logins.
+ Terminate all children before killing dropbear, to avoid stalled SSH
  connections. (Closes: #735203.)
+ Run configure_networking in the foreground. (Closes: #584780, #626181,
  #739519.)
+ Bring down interfaces and flush IP routes and addresses before exiting
the ramdisk, to avoid dirty network configuration in the regular kernel.
(Closes: #715048, #720987, #720988.) The interfaces considered are
those matching the $DROPBEAR_IFDOWN shell pattern (default: '*'); the
special value 'none' keeps all interfaces up and preserves routing
  tables and addresses.

[Bug 1303086] Re: Pointer Speed Missing in Unity Settings for Mouse & Trackpad

2015-11-08 Thread tjagoda
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1132063 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1132063

Just a workaround here - I am also affected by this bug, but the
terminal command xset allows you to adjust the mouse speed using the
command line. I suggest doing a man xset to learn more about the
command, but "xset m 1.3 0" is the magic number for me. The format of
the command is xset m . More explanation on what
threshold means can be found in the manpages.

Yes, it is true that you need to use the -p switch.

No, using the -p switch does not affect enabling proposed. However, if
you already have it enabled it will remain enabled.

[Bug 1503284] Re: owncloud-client does not start minimized when autostarted

2015-11-08 Thread Coen
This problem is still present in the final release of Kubuntu 15.10.
I checked whether it has something to do with the interference of the KDE way
of starting application and the client setting to start automatically at
startup, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

If I can help in some way please let me know!

Coen

[Bug 1514218] [NEW] unable to add an ubutu dvd

2015-11-08 Thread Battant
Public bug reported:

Hello,

1. If I insert my ubuntu 14.04.3 dvd, there is no dialogue box shown to
suggest me to add this cd rom to the synaptic.

2. In synaptic if I choose to add a cd rome in edit menu a dialog box asks me
to insert the dvd in my dvd rom. but after this action
I get this exception:

E: Failed to mount the cdrom.

Expected result :

When I insert my ubuntu 14.04.3 dvd, a message box should ask me if I
want to open synaptic to add this dvd like on an other distribution

Is it a bug and if yes could you please fix it ?

Best regards

Battant

[Bug 1462359] Re: wine currently can not be installed in wily - 15.10

2015-11-08 Thread Barry Drake
$sudo apt-get install wine should work. Have you tried sudo apt-get
update followed by sudo apt-get dist-upgrade to make sure your version
of wily really is completely up to date. Do that first, then try
installing wine without any version numbers. I've had wine working in
wily for months now.
