[Bug 1636912] Re: systemd-networkd runs too late for cloud-init.service (net)

2016-11-23 Thread Martin Pitt
I just landed the last PR (https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/4710)
in upstreamd master that fully fixes networkd for early boot. The
complete set is too intrusive to backport, but we don't need to in
xenial: Transient (DHCP-acquired) hostname and timezone have never
worked in xenial, and it should already have the "try to reconnect to
D-Bus every 5s" behaviour (I'll verify this). Then we only need to
backport https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/5f004d1e32 .

[Bug 1644445] [NEW] avila xenial+systemd port takes too long to boot to GUI

2016-11-23 Thread Vicamo Yang
Public bug reported:

We found devices will take about 80 seconds to show the ubuntu flash UI, and
after about 60 seconds to show the login UI.
So it will take more than 2 minutes to boot up the system.

[[1. on xenial+systemd/arm64]]:
Second boot time:
Without flight mode: 25s to ubuntu splash, 93s to login dialog
With flight mode: 46s to ubuntu splash, 120s to login dialog
Without flight mode, but disable ofono completely: 84s to ubuntu splash, 143s
to login dialog. Worse cases are also observed.

$ adb shell system-image-cli -i
current build number: 84
device name: frieza_arm64
channel: ubuntu-touch/staging/ubuntu
last update: 2016-11-17 03:23:16
version version: 84
version ubuntu: 20161117
version device: 20161014.0
version custom: 20161117

[[2. on vivid+upstart/armhf]]:
Second boot time:
Without flight mode: The worse case I got is 78s to ubuntu splash, 92s to login
dialog. However I have this only once and am never able to reproduce the same.
The usual cases have almost no difference from the following two cases. All
boot to splash in 10s and login dialog in around 22s.

With flight mode: 9s to ubuntu splash, 19s to login dialog
Without flight mode, but disable ofono completely: 9s to ubuntu splash, 21s to
login dialog

$ adb shell system-image-cli -i
current build number: 235
device name: frieza
channel: ubuntu-touch/rc-proposed/bq-aquaris-pd.en
last update: 2016-11-19 11:56:02
version version: 235
version ubuntu: 20161119
version device: 20160809.0
version custom: 20160831--42-26-vivid

[[Debug Tips]]

1. Flash xenial user build:

  $ ubuntu-device-flash touch --bootstrap --wipe \
--channel=ubuntu-touch/staging/ubuntu \
--device=frieza_arm64 [--recovery-image=recovery.img]

2. Flash vivid user build:

There may be an issue left to investigate that affects core systems and

[Bug 1644428] [NEW] Unable to log in with AD account after update

2016-11-23 Thread Lyle Dietz
Public bug reported:

After performing a system update one of my users was no longer able to
authenticate against Active Directory. This is on a Ubuntu 14.04 on
amd64.

The error in /var/log/auth.log was:

Nov 24 15:08:06 haggerstone lightdm: PAM unable to
dlopen(pam_winbind.so): /lib/security/pam_winbind.so: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory

I tried rebooting thinking something broke during the update, but I got
the same error.

I checked against my PC and saw that there were updates pending for the
samba packages. I used the version numbers on my PC to perform a
downgrade to 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 and the problem went away.

The affected version is 2:4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.2

** Description changed:

- For some new Dell laptops, they are using Matrox graphics cards.
+ A new Dell Precision workstation uses Matrox graphics cards.
And in order to let Xorg mga driver work. We need to enable
CONFIG_DRM_MGAG200.

MGAG200 is disabled by this bug.

Since Dell's laptops needs this to be enabled.
I think we need to test lp:1042903 again because it's 4 years ago on HP.

[Bug 1600136] Re: App indicator does not show icon for Qt apps or with custom icons

2016-11-23 Thread Treviño
So...

The problem for generic apps should be fixed. You can see some examples here:

Basically we export to unity the proper absolute icon path, unless that's
readable (so basically it can be everywhere inside the SNAP but in /tmp).
They're using remote parts indicator-, although I hope to include this
in the desktop launchers by default.

As for some QT apps that don't use appmenu-qt, until we don't fix the Qt
upstream implementation, the only workaround is to use a different TEMPDIR for
them, see
https://github.com/sergiusens/telegram-snap/issues/2#issuecomment-261139307.
When bug #1620442 is fixed, it might be ok to set TEMPDIR to XDG_RUNTIME_DIR
for a such snap.

[Bug 1644412] [NEW] lost mouse control of system while resizing nautilus and Chrome

2016-11-23 Thread Eli
Public bug reported:

I resized Google Chrome (then I tried reproducing the issue with
nautilus, after a system reboot), by holding the corner of the window
(the appropriate cursor showed up, for resizing the window), and
resizing it, but pushed the up/down arrow of my mouse (I think it's
called MOUSE 4/5, in Java, at least) before letting go of the primary
button (left click).

After that, I could not hit SUPER and get the dashboard to show up; I
could not lock my account (using (left control) + (left alt) + "l"); my
mouse cursor could move, but I could not move it out of the current
monitor; I could not click, or scroll on any window, the doc, the
desktop, or anything; using (left control) + (left alt) + (delete) was
buggy, because I could not use my keyboard or mouse to control the
options or hit enter (but using (left control) + (left alt) + "l" let me
exit the screen);

I could get to the terminal using (left control) + (left alt) + "t"; I
can switch Windows using SUPER + (number on the doc) and using (left
alt) + (tab) and using (left alt) + (tab) + (left shift); I could use
the keyboard for the current window.

(I haven't really messed with the keyboard shortcut settings, they're
all default (except, SUPER + "E" open nautilus in my home directory)).

I was expecting me to be able to lock my account (like it's supposed to), use
Ubuntu dash, and to be able to click on the Desktop, and the cursor to return
to the arrow, instead of being stuck on the resize cursor.

2016-11-23 Thread Rob
Seem default repo are not up-to-date and affected others IDE too.
Another work-around is to use ubuntu-desktop PPA

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-desktop/ubuntu-make
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install ubuntu-make

$ umake --version
16.11.1

$ sudo umake ide phpstorm

[Bug 1644098] Re: Network Manager + OpenVPN does not respond to DNS server change on second connection attempt

2016-11-23 Thread WalterNicholls
FWIW on my laptop (16.10) DNS queries are working as I wish it (ie
"correctly"). With VPN disconnected all queries are going to the home router
(192.168.33.1), queries for eg amachine.csl are sent there and come back
NXDOMAIN.
With VPN connected, queries on .csl are going to the remote VPN server (as
requested for this domain suffix by the VPN server: no configuration on my
local machine here). Queries for anything else go to home router.

So dnsmasq logs this:
  Nov 24 15:18:24 rukbat dnsmasq[6655]: query[A] amachine.csl from 127.0.0.1
  Nov 24 15:18:24 rukbat dnsmasq[6655]: forwarded amachine.csl to 192.168.68.1
  Nov 24 15:18:24 rukbat dnsmasq[6655]: reply amachine.csl is 192.168.68.44

HOWEVER, after disconnecting and then reconnecting VPN, despite dnsmasq having
noted this during the VPN connection set up:

   Nov 24 15:24:51 rukbat dnsmasq[6655]: using nameserver
192.168.68.1#53 for domain csl

Now a request for say www.bbc.co.uk correctly goes through the home
router:

   Nov 24 15:30:05 rukbat dnsmasq[6655]: query[A] www.bbc.co.uk from 127.0.0.1
   Nov 24 15:30:05 rukbat dnsmasq[6655]: forwarded www.bbc.co.uk to 192.168.33.1
   Nov 24 15:30:05 rukbat dnsmasq[6655]: reply www.bbc.co.uk is
   Nov 24 15:30:05 rukbat dnsmasq[6655]: reply www.bbc.net.uk is 212.58.246.55

But a request for anothermachine.csl , only this is logged:

   Nov 24 15:26:13 rukbat dnsmasq[6655]: query[A] anothermachine.csl
from 127.0.0.1

That's right, no "forwarded", no "reply" and the output of / dig
anothermachine.csl / has no answer:
  ;; QUESTION SECTION:
  ;anothermachine.csl.IN A

  ;; Query time: 0 msec
  ;; SERVER: 127.0.1.1#53(127.0.1.1)

In other words, dnsmasq doesn't even try. Looks like a bug in dnsmasq
(or a bug in Network Manager not instructing dnsmasq correctly).

Ok, with a fresh Xenial install, I don't seem to get this behavior. I
have tested with 2 different monitors, both different brands from each
other. I set the HDMI audio out as the output, start playing audio, and
let the screen turn off and/or run xset dpms force off. In either case,
audio stops playing, but does not switch to another device. When I press
a key and the screen turns back on, the music resumes playback on the
monitor's speakers.

I should note that I've also tested this on 3 different machines, 2 that
were also connected to speakers via 3.5mm analog jack, and another via
S/PDIF.

Am I missing something?

[Bug 1608716] Re: virtualbox-dkms 5.0.24-dfsg-0ubuntu1.16.04.1: virtualbox kernel module failed to build

2016-11-23 Thread Dave Odell

still not getting e-mails despite seeing "You are subscribed to all

F5'ing this thread for the next two/three weeks or so.)

Added your PPA, aptitude(8) now shows VirtualBox packages 5.1.8.

No love with virtualbox-dkms; I still get the same business with
rc=-1912.

With virtualbox-source, it still wants to remove grub-efi-amd64 and
grub-efi-amd64-signed. Not cool!

Trying to install virtualbox:amd64 instead of the 32-bit version, apt-get(8)
gives me:

[Bug 1644394] [NEW] Botched backport breaks level triggered EOIs in QEMU guests with --machine kernel_irqchip=split

2016-11-23 Thread Steve Rutherford
Public bug reported:

The port of KVM's HyperV SynIC patches (and other HyperV related KVM
Patches) broke QEMU's --machine kernel_irqchip=split for Ubuntu Xenial
on x86. Guests hang in early boot.

Ubuntu Xenial dropped the upstream patch
abdb080f7ac8a85547f5e0246362790043bbd3f2 while backporting. The result
is that patch a6767645c9da8c0e91ebbb47677d933d6b378638 in Ubuntu's tree
clobbers the definition of kvm_arch_irq_routing_update, which was
renamed in abdb080f7..., and drops the IOAPIC scan request as a result.
[Aside: this also results in kvm_hv_irq_routing_update being called
outside irq_lock].

The result of this is that the EOI exit bitmaps are not updated when the
table is updated, and no IOAPIC EOIs go to userspace.

The fix is backporting abdb080f7ac8a85547f5e0246362790043bbd3f2, and
defining kvm_arch_post_irq_routing_update with the old definition of
kvm_arch_port_irq_routing_update. I've attached a patch that does this.

Repro: The KVM-Unit-test's IOAPIC test should fail with QEMU and
--machine kernel_irqchip=split on 4.4.0-36. (Caveat: I actually haven't
tried this myself, but the theory is there.)

Security Implications: I believe this is not a security issue.
kvm_hv_irq_routing_update only moved outside the lock, not outside the
srcu critical section. If the update were outside the critical section,
this would be a racy use-after-free.

Versioning information: I cloned the tree at
git://kernel.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ubuntu-xenial.git and checked out the tag
'Ubuntu-4.4.0-36.55'. All of the tests were done on a build of the
4.4.0-36 kernel. Later versions also have the issue (checked
'Ubuntu-4.4.0-49.70'). The issue was introduced in 'Ubuntu-4.4.0-32.51'.

[Bug 1644384] [NEW] mk-sbuild cannot build xenial or zesty chroot on trusty

Public bug reported:

There is a previous bug for this: Bug #1569400

I just fell over this issue while configuring new slaves in our Jenkaas
setup. The problem is that the slaves still run trusty, and mk-sbuild
fails this

sudo cp /etc/localtime /etc/timezone "$MNT"/etc/

because both paths point at the same file.

Could we please SRU the fix for trusty as well?

sudo cp -P --remove-destination /etc/localtime /etc/timezone "$MNT"/etc/

Bug 771547 from GNOME's Bugzilla affects the current version of
Evolution on 16.10 Yakkety Yak:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=771547

I'm not sure if how and if older releases are affected by it.

According to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=771547#c55 a fix
has already been released as part of GNOME 3.22.2 point release.

Yakkery Yak was released with 3.22.0 and has 3.22.1 as an update. It
would be great if you could provide an update to 3.22.2 soon as it is
already available on Zesty Zapus.
