[Bug 1669688] [NEW] [needs-packaging] gnome-games-app

2017-03-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Game browser and launcher for GNOME

GNOME Games is an application to browse your video games library and easily
pick and play a game from it.

https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Games

License: GPL-3+

This needs retro-gtk to be packaged first (LP: #1669687).

Since the gnome-games name is already taken (it is a metapackage
depending on casual GNOME games, many of which were once included in the
same source package, gnome-games), the developer suggested we use the
name gnome-games-app.

https://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-
list/2016-June/msg00040.html

It will probably end up being maintained by the Debian GNOME team,
unless there's another team that wants to maintain it.

I did notice that, but I figured getting you all of the data was better than
fiddling around trying to not include that part, and maybe missing bits.
It'd be nice to have better control over it so we don't have to throw the juju
state db around if we don't need to.

Interesting. I don't really know why it would have been installed.

No, I don't believe anyone has, I don't see any evidence of that.

Ok, I'll organise removing the package and rebooting it.

This is LXCs on a KVM. The errors are in /var/log/lxc, its odd
that the sosreport didn't include it.

> 5) Why was lxc downgraded/upgraded/downgraded multiple times?

We were trying to work out if LP#1656280 was related somehow, the
errors were occuring before we did that.

The errors are in /var/log/lxc - see the next reply.

I've uploaded it to https://private-

Its odd that stopping and starting cgmanager would let LXC work then.

It does sound like a good idea if we're going to have failures like what we
saw.

+ | datasource:

There is real regression potential here. That is why we have announced
this fairly widely and also are putting this into place with warnings

After some time is passed, further SRUs will put more strict behavior
  in place.

Many cloud providers mimic the EC2 Metadata service [1] in order to
provide a level of EC2 compatibility for images. This is quite useful and

Because this is a network based metadata service, cloud-init
opportunistically poll an IPv4 link local address (http://169.254.169.254)
to determine if there is metadata available. That can have negative side
  affects such as timeouts.

AWS has recently begun providing a way for instances to determine if they

[Bug 1669675] [NEW] support strict cloud platform identification and warnings [ds-identify]

2017-03-02 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

=== Begin SRU Template ===
[Impact]
Cloud-init searches through each of its datasources until it finds one.
This can be slow or error prone leading to timeouts or other problems
in boot. It also makes cloud-init not suitable to be installed in an
image as it is very much not 'inert' even when it is not necessary.

The changes covered in this bug add code that runs in a systemd generator
that quickly determines which datasource should be used. That code
(ds-identify) can be configured to disable cloud-init if no source is found.
By doing so, no cloud-init python code is even executed making for faster
boot.

The changes in behavior in this first phase are:
 * 16.10 : Attempt a search. If a positive result is found, enable only
that datasource in cloud-init. If no result is found, keep cloud-init
enabled. cloud-init will search its normal list and issue warnings.

 * 16.04 : report only mode.
Attempt a search, but in report only mode. Warnings are issued
by cloud-init if it uses a datasource not in the result list.

[Test Case]
a.) forced fail
1.) launch instance on KVM OpenStack. enable proposed, upgrade.
2.) rm -Rf /var/lib/cloud /var/log/cloud-init* ;
3.) modify /usr/lib/cloud-init/ds-identify to
   return $DS_NOT_FOUND
in the first line of 'dscheck_OpenStack'
4.) reboot
5.) ssh in. You should see a warning on stderr on ssh connection.

b.) forced fail with warnings disabled.
follow 'a' above, but launch instance with user-data of
  #cloud-config
  warnings:
dsid_missing_source: off
Upon ssh in in step 5, no warnings should be seen.

c.) normal instance
1.) launch instance, enable proposed, upgrade
2.) rm -Rf /var/lib/cloud /var/log/cloud-init*
3.) reboot
4.) expect that same datasource is found.

[Bug 1669655] Re: Adapt to new Nautilus icon name

2017-03-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

Nautilus 3.24's app icon name is org.gnome.Nautilus instead of system-
  file-manager for better flatpak compatibility.

I have updated ubuntu-themes and humanity-icon-theme for this change
(adding a new symlink pointing to system-file-manager).

ubuntu-themes is handled via bileto so I'll ask the appropriate people

[Bug 1669663] [NEW] Adapt to new Nautilus icon name

2017-03-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Nautilus' icon name is now org.gnome.Nautilus instead of system-file-
manager.

I suggest you make a symlink from org.gnome.Nautilus to system-file-
manager in your icon theme -- unless you don't mind Nautilus using its
own icon.

I plan to upload Nautilus with this name change this weekend. This is
because adwaita-icon-theme 3.24 has dropped the old system-file-manager
icon. Maybe GNOME will reconsider dropping that icon?

Anyway, please make this change now. Even if I don't change Nautilus in
zesty, the GNOME3 PPA is popular and the zesty series there already
contains a beta version of Nautilus 3.24.

Checked with Gavin today and he is of the opinion that since the
backport effort for 16.04.2 is potentially high hence it will be better
to target 16.04.3 for this feature that would be based on a newer kernel
(>=4.9) and most of the needed patches already present.

So requesting canonical to ignore this bug for 16.04/16.10 HWE kernel
trees.

[Bug 1590561] Re: webbrowser-app crashes on startup on fresh zesty Unity8: No suitable EGL configs found

2017-03-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
/dev/dri/* is a special case that the shell (or lightdm, whichever runs
as root) needs to handle. Same goes for other desktop devices like
audio, webcams etc.

This makes me think it has already been done by virtue of logging in by
lightdm. So yeah, this would just be an over-confinement problem to be
fixed per app. Although each app having to know the details of every
device that every graphics driver might ever need doesn't seem like a
great architectural choice...

[Bug 1666432] Re: Internet drops every few minutes on wired and wireless connection

2017-03-02 Thread TylerKinkade
** Description changed:

Internet drops every 1-30 minutes when connected via wired or wireless
(i.e., this is a problem on both wired and wireless) even though
connection icon indicates the computer is still connected.

Disconnecting and reconnecting via the connection icon resets internet
  temporarily until the next time.

Dropped internet is discovered with "The site can't be reached" screens
in Chromium, or error messages when downloading/updating in Terminal, or
missing connection in Ubuntu Software app, or stalled syncing in Insync
  application (occurred even without Insync).

Internet drops more frequently on wireless than on wired.

It seems to disconnect more frequently with heavier internet use (e.g.,
downloading multiple files, opening several webpages in quick
  succession).

This is a fresh install (yesterday) of Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Inspiron
- 15 5567 (dual boot).
+ 15 5567 (dual boot). It occurs when running Live CD as well though.

Ethernet and wifi both work without randomly disconnecting in Windows 10
on the same machine, and ethernet and wifi work on other machines
running Ubuntu and Windows with the same router, so it is not a hardware
  or router issue.

Output from sudo lshw -class network

[Bug 1624407] Re: Add a 'quit' message that is app-wide, as opposed to mir_event_type_close_surface

2017-03-02 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Clicking on a window's close button sends the app
mir_event_type_close_window. That's just an informational message that
apps are meant to act on (e.g. pop up a dialog if not terminate
themselves).

If you mean logout however, then I guess the right answer is that shells
should send mir_event_type_{close_window,quit_app} to all apps on
logout, and wait until the apps are no longer running (user responds to
dialogs from apps with unsaved work or some timeout expires).

[Bug 1630077] Re: Inkscape doesn't open ubuntu 16.04 libgiomm-2.4.so.1

2017-03-02 Thread terakin
I have the same phenomena upon installation of Inkscape.
This is what I did:
1. click .ai file and said from nautilus that "You need to install application
to open this file".
2. Showed two applications. I chose Inkscape.
3. Installation started. Affiliated packages as well.

After I tried to open inkscape, I found the following message.

inkscape: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-

[Bug 1669616] Re: please consider updating to >=0.7.08

2017-03-02 Thread Vej
I would like to see 0.7.08 or higher for zesty. But zesty is feature
freeze, which forbids the introduction of new changes.

Please see the following excerpt from duplicities changelog for more
informations about the changes made since duplicity 0.7.06.

@Jeff: Most of them are bugfixes which would allow for merging into
zesty. Nevertheless there are some changes which might need a
FreezeException. Please see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FreezeExceptionProcess for a guideline about
this.

The same changes might be forbidden in a Stable Relase Update (SRU),
which are the (non security related) updates for released ubuntu
versions. This means that it might be necessary to create patches for
the remaining bugfixes to ship them in an SRU without inclusion of new
features.

One example for things which might be considered a new feature:

* Added acdclibackend.py from Stefan Breunig and Malay Shah
  - renamed from amazoncloudbackend to stress use of acd_cli

[Bug 1635988] Re: Update nautilus to 3.22

2017-03-02 Thread petersaints
Ok. Thanks for the heads up and I only mentioned gedit because someone
mentioned nautilus 3.24 above. Therefore, it would make sense to match
to try to match all the versions of the GNOME Stack as much as possible.

Also, according to this news article
(http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2017/02/ubuntu-17-04-include-gnome-3-24)
Ubuntu 17.04 is supposed to ship with ALMOST 100% GNOME 3.24. The only
things that are usually left behind are gtk, nautilus, gdm, gnome-shell
(and perhaps a few others). So I was hoping that 17.04 would ship the
latest version of "GNOME Apps", including gedit, as of April, i.e.,
3.24.
