[Bug 1734500] [NEW] Ubuntu Web Browser content upside down on rotated screen
Public bug reported: I use two monitors, a Plain Tree 22" on the left and a Goldstar 29" on the right. The Plain Tree is physically rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise and the Goldstar is not rotated. In Settings - Displays, the Goldstar 29" has Rotation set to Normal, and content displays ok in normal right side up fashion. In Settings - Displays, the Plain Tree has Rotation set to Clockwise because that causes most content to display ok and right side up. For example, Firefox Web Browser windows display their content right side up on both monitors. However, while window title bar text is upright for Ubuntu Web Browser windows on the Plain Tree, the window content is upside down. When I drag that window to the Goldstar the content flips over and displays correctly. I don't know the version number of webbrowser-app, or if it's relevant. Clicking on the Amazon icon on the launcher brought up an Amazon page in a frame labeled Ubuntu Web Browser which according to https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WebBrowsers is webbrowser-app . Anyhow, webbrowser-app directory info is: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 710984 Dec 20 2016 /usr/bin/webbrowser-app Summary: On this system, Ubuntu Web Browser page rotation is 180 degrees different from page rotation in other programs. [Bug 1734496] Re: snapper rollback does not work on ubuntu for btrfs
So I think I know why this doesn't work under Ubuntu and it's related to the mount options Ubuntu sets by default for btrfs for a new installation. By default, Ubuntu installs systems with btrfs into a subvolume called @ and the home directory into a subvolume called @home. It then proceeds to add the mount options of subvol=@ to /etc/fstab for the root volume's mount. This is all great until you want to revert via snapper. Before going further, I want to clarify that, afaik, snapshots are just subvolumes for BTRFS. For snapper, the subvolume has a path of /.snapshots//snapshot. Since this is relative to the rootfs mounted, which is @, I believe it's actually @/.snapshots//snapshot. snapper's rollback works by using the default subvolume feature for a filesystem. This means if you mount that file system (mount /dev/sda1), it will mount that subvolume instead of the top-level file system. As an example, when rolling back to @/.snapshots/10/snapshot, snapper creates a read-writable subvolume from snapshot #10 and sets that as the default subvolume for the filesystem instead of the usual /. Its design hopes that on the next boot of the system, it will boot from the newly cloned rw-able snapshot, as opposed to the original subvolume. Note that it does not alter @. However, since ubuntu's fstab entry for the root volume has subvol=@ as the default flag, it will ALWAYS mount subvol=@ as / and never mount the default subvolume as /. As a workaround, you could in theory: 1. Remove the subvol=@ options from /etc/fstab 2. Set the default subvolume for your filesystem to be @ (or whatever snapshot you're using). I haven't tested this yet, but it _should_ fix this problem. Although this may be more preferable to be done by the ubuntu installer by default instead. However, doing that is a major change and might have other implications that I'm not aware of. Additionally, the .snapshots folder under @ is not quite idea for rollbacks from a liveCD... I don't know what the optimal layout would be tho, but having it nested under @ means you can't do something like mv @/.snapshots/.../snapshot @ easily. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734496 Title: snapper rollback does not work on ubuntu for btrfs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/snapper/+bug/1734496/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi All, No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 17.10 Release:17.10 Codename: artful Spent a few hours trying to resolve the issue; I managed to resolve it by doing the following. ls /etc/ | grep *blue* if bluetooth folder exists then change IdleTimeout on input.conf to value 0 as seen below: # Set idle timeout (in minutes) before the connection will # be disconnect (defaults to 0 for no timeout) IdleTimeout=0 if bluetooth dir does not exist under /etc then execute: apt get install tlp I also disabled TLP (power management) by editing /etc/default/tlp , example of change in file below: # Set to 0 to disable, 1 to enable TLP. TLP_ENABLE=0 I restarted both Network-manager and bluetooth by executing: systemctl restart network-manager bluetooth I of course am under the opinion that running the these two commands resolved the issue: sudo apt get install tlp #installed tlp and editing the tlp conf file under /etc/default/ and turning it off. [Bug 1734497] [NEW] unstable desktop environments using nvidia drivers
Public bug reported: Using Nvidia drivers with an Optimus laptop. Using the integrated intel chip (prime-select intel), I cannot log in to the gnome desktop, screen flashes and returns to login prompt. Using Nvidia (prime-select nvidia) I am able to log in, to an X session (no wayland option yet). In both gnome and unity, using nvidia 384.98 and 387.34, the session is highly unstable, and I get crashes from X, gnome, firefox, chromium, and occasionally other applications including apport. [Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models
Actually, this MUST be a Ubuntu / Linux bug, as the current Ubuntu 17.10 rendered our Lenovo laptops useless in the long run, without any documentation or warning that the installation would affect the BIOS. This is a very serious issue, both legally and ethically and I think that we should demand an immediate fix. No OS should have anything to do with the modification of the BIOS without the consent of the owner. What will happen if we need to format our hard drives? How will we be able to install the OS that we want? i am not happy with any workaround. I want my computer to function as it did when I purchased it, in terms of its bios settings and booting from USB is an essential feature. What remains to be explained is the reason why it only affects Lenovo hardware and not any other brand. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734147 Title: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1734147/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1722411] Re: gnutls28 in trusty no longer validates many valid certificate chains, such as google.com
Just to record my analysis of the debdiff: The changes are basically the same as the upstream commits, except for the PKCS#11 changes. This means that PKCS#11 certificates are still checked in full. I'm not sure where that would be used, but it is not a security problem (less is allowed than upstream, not more). I have verified that xenial contains the same fixes by checking that _gnutls_check_if_same_key() exists there. The changelog mentions trusty-updates, and does not close the bug report. I added (LP: #1722411) as a final line and changed the distribution to trusty to match other uploads. I'm building now, and will verify that the bug is fixed and upload afterwards. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722411 Title: gnutls28 in trusty no longer validates many valid certificate chains, such as google.com To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnutls28/+bug/1722411/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1734147] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS - many LENOVO laptops models
This is not Ubuntu bug. I've created the workaround description (user marcin78 here) and as you can clearly see, it refers to my Antergos installation being the last one writing BIOS. I think (I'm not system expert) that this can be related to the way the kernel update scripts (modules rebuild or mkinird or any other) is handling the process. It could be that other system users don't do so many BIOS rewrites (Windows is updated in a different way) and this problem is not affecting most of PC users. Although there are reports also from Windows installations. So far the fix is replacing the chip. Far beyond most of our skills and definitely won't come cheap from Lenovo service. Hope the rEFInd tip can serve you for now. [Bug 1734477] [NEW] LubuntuNext 17.10 - When not run from terminal, fails upon "Install"
Public bug reported: I recently installed Lubuntu Next 17.10. I have been using Flashpeak-SlimJet as a browser, but it is not in the repositories, so I download the .deb file and use gdebi to install it. The version of gdebi that Lubuntu Next installs is gdebi-kde, presumably because LN uses Qt. However, as described at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdebi/+bug/1731803 gdebi-kde is not usable, and since I needed to install a .deb, I installed the gtk version, gebi. That seems to work, until one clicks on "Install", whereupon the window disappears with no message, never to return... When run from terminal, the window disappears, but another appears. This one asks for my password, and when provided one, runs to completion, installing the package. (I did run it without terminal, and looked amongst my other desktops, thinking that perhaps the password window was there, but displayed in the wrong desktop, but found nothing.) It is possible that adding "sudo " to the .desktop file "Exec" would solve the standalone menu invocation, but I am not sure that would help when using the right-click context menu from the desired .deb (and if not, how one would fix that (surely more common) situation). scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ uname -a Linux scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-PLUS 4.13.0-17-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 6 10:04:08 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ lsb_release -dsc Ubuntu 17.10 artful scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ echo $DESKTOP_SESSION QLubuntu scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-PLUS:~$ apt-cache policy gdebi gdebi: Installed: 0.9.5.7+nmu1ubuntu3 Candidate: 0.9.5.7+nmu1ubuntu3 Version table: *** 0.9.5.7+nmu1ubuntu3 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu artful/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: gdebi 0.9.5.7+nmu1ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-17.20-generic 4.13.8 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-17-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3.5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: LXQt Date: Sat Nov 25 14:34:46 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-11-06 (19 days ago) InstallationMedia: Lubuntu-Next 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Beta amd64 (20171014) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: gdebi UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gdebi (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug artful -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734477 Title: LubuntuNext 17.10 - When not run from terminal, fails upon "Install" To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdebi/+bug/1734477/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
